CHAIRMAN'S WELCOME Good afternoon and welcome to the NFU Sports Ground for this, our very first home game playing in our new league, the MFL Div 1. May I extend a warm welcome to the Players, Officials and Supporters of our opposition today, Cadbury Athletic FC. I would also like to welcome todays MASCOT, Holly Crowder and her family to the match. For those who don’t know Holly, she was one of our first Female players to join the club and it is testament to her desire to play football that she has now been chosen to represent Burton Albion Girls and we wish her every success with her team. Today sees the opening of our new outdoor catering unit where you will find all of your Hot and Cold drinks and Snacks and this has been made possible by lots of volunteer time and I would like to give a special mention to Mark Pepper for the outside work and to Neil Crowder for all his work in fitting out the interior. The pitch is looking the best it has in my opinion and that’s largely down to the fantastic amount of effort and time that Ian Irving has put into getting it to this position and lets hope that now he has set the stage, the players can perform and match his efforts. Today you will see the new SIN BIN rule in action and having sat in a presentation explaining its purpose, I am sure it will have a positive effect on players behaviour towards the referee. If you are unsure of the new rules, then visit the FA website for more details. As mentioned, we are now playing our football in the MFL, which is a positive move for the club and one that we should embrace as it offers new opportunities to progress as a club to our ultimate goal of Step 4 football at Ashby Ivanhoe FC. The move to the MFL was a decision made by the FA ultimately as they re-jig the travelling for clubs across the Country. This season we will play a lot more local derby’s which should see a boost in spectator numbers too. For me and the team it should feel like a promotion and one which will be challenging, but from what we have seen in pre-season friendlies and from the opening games, the challenge should be one we hit head on and see what happens over the course of the season. Andy and his management team have retained and added to the squad for this season and I know the lads are up for the challenge and with the determination of Andy, lets hope they perform as a team and believe that that are more than capable of competing in this division. Final mention is for 2 special people associated with the club, Kevin Allsop And Stephen Stewart, who are both set to get married over the course of this weekend and next (not to each other I may add). Kevin and his fiancé, Sarah tie the knot tomorrow, Sunday 11th August and Stephen (Tag) and his fiancé, Gina tie the knot next Saturday 17th August and on behalf of everyone involved on and off the field at the Club I would like to wish both couples a fantastic day and very happy future together. Hope you all enjoy the game Stuart Bonser Club Chairman

FIRST TEAM UPDATE Welcome to you all as we prepare for our first home game of the season. A warm welcome too to Cadbury Athletic and all who've travelled here today. We had a testing pre season against strong opposition and aquitted ourselves well during all six games. However, our start to the season has seen us gain just a single point from our two first away games. To say that as a group we're disappointed is an understatement. In both games we've created more chances than the opposition but unfortunately failed to capitalise on these opportunities. However as the manager, I’m delighted with our performances, particularly on Monday at Chelmesley. The new group of players are beginning to gel and their commitment and endeavour during that game was commendable. We have a talented group of players who are becoming familiar with the system and improving during every session and game. Today we hope to entertain you and gain our first 3 points of the season. We intend to make the NFU a difficult place to visit so please get behind the lads and cheer us on to victory. Regards Andy Gray FIRST TEAM UPDATE SPONSORED BY

IN OPPOSITION TODAY Cadbury Athletic FC History Cadbury Athletic Football Club was founded in 1994 by Chairman John Peckham and Committee member Roger Hughes and gained entry to the Midland Combination Division Three. Their first signing was Gerry Boyle as Secretary. The club was affiliated with the Cadbury's factory based in Bournville, using the company's logo as its badge and later adopting the Cadbury's corporate colours of purple and white as there playing strip. They played at the Cadbury Recreation Ground in Bournville Lane, based within in the grounds of the company. The ground at Bournville Lane was recognized as one of the best playing surfaces in the area, even claiming links with the 'hallowed turf of old Wembley. The pitch was laid with the same Northumberland turf that was used for the Wembley pitch prior to its closure in 2000, and one of only 4 grounds in the UK to use it for its playing surface. We finished 9th in our first season in Division Three but were nonetheless promoted to Division Two. After several mid table finishes in Division Two, a 4th place finish in the 2000-01 season again saw them promoted, this time up to Division One. The Reserve side was also going strong. In the 1999-00 season they won the Birmingham Works Premier League as well as winning the West Bromwich Albion Shield and Prudential Cup. On the back of this success they joined the Midland Combination Division Three where they also gained promotion to Division Two in their first season. After a few years of gradual improvement in Division One, and a Runners Up appearance in the JW Hunt Cup Final, the first team finished the 2004-05 season in 2nd place and secured yet another promotion to the Premier Division. Unfortunately, this brought problems for the club as the Recreation Ground didn't have the floodlights that were a prerequisite of obtaining promotion to the Premier Division. They were forced to ground share with Pilkington XXX, while plans to erect floodlights at their own ground were drawn up. Life in the Premier Division proved very difficult to start with but, as in previous years, gradual improvements have been made year after year and in the last two seasons they have finished in 12th and 11th place respectively. They also reached the final of the Challenge Cup during these two seasons but were runners up on both occasions, first to Loughborough University and then Castle Vale. In the 2006-07 season they entered the FA Vase for the first time where they beat AFC Wulfrunians on their debut. A year later they made their debut in the FA Cup but lost in a replay to Alvechurch. Another switch in grounds took place during this close season as they moved from Pilkington to Alvechurch. The season started poorly as they slumped to the bottom of the table but a run of form meant that Cadbury climbed to 13th place. The club is built on solid foundation and John Peckham remains as chairman with a restructured committee of Tony Forletta, Graham Thorn, Russell Cooke, Phil George, Dave Ferris-Day, Tim Delaney and our newest member John ( Reevesy ) Reeves joining this year. We have a management team of Graham Thorn as general manager, Matt Kirby as the first team manager, assisted by Neil Bryan, with Mike Pitt and Josh Cook our club coaches. We were pleased to welcome back Kwab Danquah, Nick Allen and John JB Hunter last season as our enthusiastic new Reserve coaching team, working under the guidance of Matt Kirby. The most recent achievements has seen Cadbury Athletic First Team win the Midland Football Combination Division One title (2013-14) and the FA County Saturday Vase the same season. Last season we finished eighth but we had a fantastic run in the F A Vase reaching the last thirty two and on reflection the second half of the season didn’t really reflect how well we played and along with the tremendous attractive football we can say it was a successful season. As well as the two open age sides, Cadbury Athletic also run a thriving Junior Section with twelve sides in the Central Warwickshire League and this year it looks like we have some quality young lads stepping up to the reserves and hopefully before long pushing for the first team squad.

ASHBY KNIGHTS UPDATE Once again I would like to wish Andy and the lads all the best in this afternoons game. The knights have had a mixed three weeks or so. Firstly drawing 0-0 with highfield Rangers which was a very disappointing result. Then we had another rest week which was frustrating for myself and the lads but then pleasingly we bounced back last Saturday with a very good 4-1 victory over Earl Shilton. This weekend sees us up against Holwell Sports which won’t be an easy game for the lads even with them sitting bottom of the league. However me and Paz will make sure that they are up for the task and if we can secure the three points then that will guarantee that we finish at least second which will be a fantastic achievement in our first season together. We have two final home games after Saturday and still in with a chance of winning the league so it would be brilliant to get as much support for the lads as possible. Thanks Robbie Avins Ashby Ivanhoe Knights Manager

The club currently consists of three adult teams and a youth team. The first team play in the Midland Football League Division 1, with the Knights in the Leicestershire Senior League Premier Division. The club also has a large number of junior sides ranging from Under 7’s through to Under 18’s who play in the Burton Junior Football League, Tamworth Junior Football League and the Derby City League. The junior section came after the club merged with the David Hunt Soccer School at the beginning of the 2009/2010 season. In February 2004, Ashby Ivanhoe became an FA Charter Standard football club. The club is very ambitious and has plans to progress further up the league pyramid system. The club is run by an experienced management team and enjoys the support of some very prestigious commercial partners. Ashby Ivanhoe had one of their most successful seasons in 2010/11 as they completed a league and cup double by winning the Leicestershire Senior League by nine points and also lifted the Coalville Charity Cup for the very first time after producing a superb second half comeback to beat Bardon Hill 3-2 in the final. They have also reached successive Leicestershire Senior Cup finals in 2011/2012 and 2012/2013 but had to settle for runnersup on both occasions losing 3-1, firstly to Ibstock United and then Aylestone Park. The 2013/2014 season saw the first team achieve a long-term ambition as they won promotion into the Step 6 East Midlands Counties League for the 2014/2015 season after finishing third place in the Leicestershire Senior League. It was a close title race with the top three all finishing level on points with Ashby third on goal difference. The Reserves were also promoted to the Leicestershire Senior League Division One. 2014/2015 saw Ashby compete at Step 6 of the non-league pyramid for the first time and they had a very good season and secured a top six finish in the East Midlands Counties League which featured victories against all of the sides above them. The Reserve side were involved in a tight title race and it went down to a last day decider against Lutterworth Athletic Reserves but despite the result going against them on the day they were still

THE OPPOSITION STAPENHILL They were formed in 1947 and ten years after formation they joined the Leicestershire Senior League Division Two and found immediate success, gaining promotion in their debut season and winning the Division One championship in the following two seasons. They remained in that division, apart from a single season (1971/1972) in Division Two, winning the top flight, now renamed the Premier Division, twice more – 1986/1987 and 1988/1989. They then joined the Midland Combination Premier Division, staying there for five seasons until they became a founding member of the Midland Alliance where they remained until resigning from the league in January 2002. Later that year they joined the Leicestershire Senior League and were promoted as runners-up into the Premier Division. In the 2007/2008 season, they were members of the Midland Football Alliance, but after a fire ravaged their home stadium the club was forced to close down. The club reformed in 2009 and rejoined the Leicestershire Senior League and gained promotion to the EMCL in the 2012/2013 season. ASHBY IVANHOE FC CLUB HISTORY promoted for the second season in succession and will play at Step 7 in the Leicestershire Senior League Premier Division for 2015/2016. 2015/2016 saw Ashby have another fine season and they mounted a strong title challenge and they led the East Midlands Counties League for the majority of the season before finally finishing in third place. That saw them assured of a first ever appearance in the FA Cup for the 2016/2017 season where the aim again will be to push for promotion to Step 5. The 2016-17 season was the most memorable in the history of Ashby Ivanhoe Football Club. For the very first time in the clubs history they were accepted to play in the most famous club competition in the world, The FA Cup. It turned into a thrilling journey with higher ranked opponents of Quorn and Loughborough Dynamo knocked out before Ashby fell to Ilkeston in the 1st Qualifying Round. Prior to the Ilkeston defeat Ashby received a visit from the FA Cup which was paraded through the town centre visiting local sponsors before players and spectators had the opportunity to view the cup at the NFU Sports Ground. The league season was inconsistent with a strong finish to the season seeing the team finish in tenth place. The season did end with a first appearance in the final of the Jenkins & Jenkins League Cup but Dunkirk overturned a one goal deficit late on to see Ashby end as runners-up.
