DAVID MORRIS
CHAIRMAN'S WELCOME Good afternoon and welcome to today’s game against Cradley Town. We had an enjoyable trip to Cradley earlier in the season and welcome their players and officials to Ashby de la Zouch and hope they have a good day with us (not on the pitch obviously). As always it seems to have been a busy time over the last 3 weeks since writing last. We gave a tremendous performance to beat Bilston before our FA Vase trip to Newark, and what a trip that was ! Even though we lost 3-0 (score flattered them by the way) our support was simply incredible, for so many to travel such a distance to cheer the boys on was fantastic and the banter from The Ultras was hilarious. The club that hosted Collingham FC have enjoyed our company so much they want a pre season friendly with us, both “home and away”, brilliant. Ewe then played extremely well again to beat Uttoxeter Town (league above) to progress in The League Cup where we will face old rivals Ingles in the next round. All of which brings us to Stapenhill away last week. As many of you will have seen from our excellent social media , we signed their top scorer in the days preceding the game, which I don’t think went down overly well and certainly seemed to fire them up, however we soo deserved a point and I left there very frustrated as I’m sure did Andy and all the boys ! As I mentioned I must give a warm welcome to George Teeney, good luck in your Ivanhoe career George, can’t wait for your first goal for us ! The Knights have had a frustrating time of late with both of their last opponents being unable to field a side, that shouldn’t be the case today as they face a strong Houghton Rangers side in The County Cup so best wishes to Lee, Chris and the boys for that one. As always loads of junior boys and girls games every weekend plus the
Saturday morning Soccer School so as usual, lots going on. Hate to mention the “C” word, but it’s coming and if you want a stocking filler for a Christmas gift, check out the club shop online to place an order. www.ashbyivanhoefc.co.uk/shop All that remains is to wish Andy and the boys all the best for this afternoon, thank you all for your continued support, it’s much appreciated, COME ON IVANHOE !!! Dave Chairman If you are visiting the ground by car please DO NOT OBSTRUCT the junction to Cambrian Way by parking on the grass/path verge as this is both dangerous and you could get a fixed penalty notice from the Council and or Police.

FIRST TEAM UPDATE Hello again all. Our last home game saw us progress into the next round of the League Cup. The 3-0 victory over Uttoxeter saw us take another 'scalp' from a team a league above us. The performance and result were pleasing for all involved. Again, I'm sure you'll agree that the result was fully deserved. Last Saturday we travelled to local rivals Stapenhill. Unfortunately we suffered our second league defeat of the season. We were disappointingly slow out of the blocks and quickly found ourselves 2-0 down. We chased the game valiantly but unfortunately couldn't get enough from our endeavours. Our opponent's workrate was admirable and was enough to cement a 2-1 scoreline. We have reset ourselves in training this week and look to today to return to winning ways. Despite Cradley's lowly league position I know they will be a tough challenge just as they proved to be when we played there earlier in the season.
Myself and the club would like to welcome our new signing George Teeney and we look forward to working with, rather than against him. He adds to the quality and depth of our team and squad. Finally, thanks again for all of your support and enjoy today’s game. Regards Andy Gray

VS CRADLEY TOWN - SATURDAY 5TH NOVEMBER 2022 - WWW.ASHBYIVANHOEFC.CO.UK
IN OPPOSITION TODAY
CRADLEY TOWN The club was established in 1970 by a merger of Albion Rovers and Haden Rangers. The new club played in the Premier Division of the West Midlands Metropolitan League, which they won at the first attempt. Under the name Albion Haden United, they joined Division Two of the Midland Combination in 1971. The club went on to win the division in 1972–73, although they were not promoted to Division One due to a narrow pitch. In 1975 the club was renamed Cradley Town. They were Division Two runners-up in 1975–76 and again in 1977–78. After finishing fourth in 1978–79 and having widened the pitch, the club were promoted to Division One. In 1983 Cradley transferred to the Premier Division of the West Midlands (Regional) League. They finished bottom of the Premier Division in their first season in the league and were relegated to Division One. In 1989–90 the club finished bottom of Division One, but were not
relegated and went on to win the division the following season, earning promotion back to the Premier Division; the season also saw them win the Wednesbury Charity Cup. In 1998–99 they were Premier Division runners-up and were promoted to the Midland Alliance. Cradley finished bottom of the Midland Alliance in 2001–02, but were not relegated. They finished bottom again in 2006–07 and 2007–08, but remained in the division until being relegated at the end of the 2009–10 season, which had seen them finish bottom of the league for a fourth time and fail to win a league match; the club then dropped back into the Premier Division of the West Midlands (Regional) League. At the end of the 2020–21 season they were transferred to Division One of the Midland League when the Premier Division of the West Midlands (Regional) League lost its status as a step six division.

CHRIS NETTEL
KNIGHTS UPDATE Good afternoon and welcome to all home and away supporters for today’s game. On reading this then hopefully we are on the road to play our first game in nearly a month against high flying Houghton Rangers. Unfortunately, we were let down last minute against Earl Shilton who couldn’t raise a team, Markfield then came in who then wanted a free week followed by Fleckney again pulling out late last week so all in all its been a frustrating few week for us. Hopefully the lack of game time won’t affect us to much today as our opposition currently sit unbeaten at the top of the county football league which is no surprise really when they have ex pros such as ex Aston Villa and Lincoln player Ryan Amoo featuring every week. Nine games in though we are all delighted on how the season is going so far with us currently sat in second place behind a very strong Aylestone park team. When we came onboard early June it was obvious that we needed a bit of a squad rebuild after last season’s relegation and one thing that Moggy was keen on was looking to bring back in past players / strong characters that have previously ran through brick walls for the club over the years. From this we were pleased to welcome back the likes of Danny Turnock, Jimmy Rushton, Jake Duthie, Elliott Bott, Ben Earp, Nick Sewell, Josh Anderson, Ollie Coe and Traff Pickering who were all strong characters on and off the pitch during there time in an Ashby Shirt. Skills and Sewelly in particular who were part or our FA cup squad when we were finally knocked out against Ilkeston who brought a good 900 supporters down that day. With these guys returning to the club its also brought a few spectators and club legends back down from there era when playing for the club and for me personally it was fantastic to see a few of the old Hood Park shed enders at the mid-week Aylestone game who I could catch up with in the bar after. Roger did an excellent job arranging pre season fixtures which gave us a good mixture of opposition Such as your usual type of scrap vs Step 7 Friar lane which we dominated to just losing out away vs step 6 Graham St Primms which really we should of won. The strong pre-season was no doubt down to the quality of lads we have brought in with the aim of brining in players either playing in the league above last season or lads with step 6 experience. This was made possible through Lee’s popularity with previous players, Rogers Sunday connections and ot forgetting Glyn’s huge connections with players from his past success at previous clubs. For us it was fantastic to see the likes of Finn Chaplin make his first ever first team appearance last week and Trey Wilkes also feature in the first team. Trey was
a player that we were keen to bring in and he had a fantastic pre-season for us and earnt his chance to feature for the firsts. Unfortunately, he picked up a knee injury which set back his progression, but we have been slowly easing him back in and was excellent to get him back on the score sheet against Barrow Utd. Along with these two, its safe to say that we are improving and developing a number of players currently who could also kick on and represent the first team which is fantastic for the club. Going into the season one thing that myself and Glyn has tried to get into the lad’s head is the importance of being ruthless in front of goal. Both Glyn and I have been involved with teams where the season has been decided on goal difference and there is nothing worse than losing out on a league title through lack of goals. Both games where we dropped points were one being Ingles where we had over twenty shots on goal yet failed to score though Ingles had one on target (a worldie) to steal the points off us. Aylestone was the same story who again we dominated, hit everything but the back of the net yet lost to a 25 yrd cross that dropped in. From this though the lads have taken the importance of goals on board and we have been steam rolling teams scoring Eighteen goals in the past three games with the majority coming from league top scorer Josh Anderson who has been fantastic for us. Our success has also been down to the squad depth this season and the amount of quality on the bench that we have had to bring on. Every week it’s a headache for us having to select a squad and leave players out which isn’t a nice task but a great situation for the club to be in after scraping by last season. I think up to now the fewest amount of players we have had to leave out of a match day squad was four players which is a good head ache to have as a management team. Fair play to these lads though, they have stuck at it and have kept pushing to get amongst the match day squad. As iv said numerous times and never a truer story, squads win silver wear not 14 players! Hopefully our success continues, and we are back at the top of the table where we belong in the forthcoming weeks. Finally, congrats to Andy and the management team for the signing of George Teeney. I played with George when I was at Stapenhill and he’s not only a fantastic player but he’s a good lad to have in and around the dressing room and certainly fit in at the club. Good luck to Macca and the lads today and hopefully come 5pm we will all be celebrating wins all around. Regards Sting

ASHBY IVANHOE
A
CLUB HISTORY
shby Ivanhoe Football Club was founded in 1948 and play their home matches at the NFU Sports Ground, Lower Packington Road, Ashby de la Zouch in Leicestershire. This is the clubs new home from the beginning of the 2012/2013 season. Since being founded in 1948 up until the end of the 2011/2012 season the clubs previous home was at Hood Park also in Ashby de la Zouch. The club currently consists of Two adult teams and Twelve sides in the Junior section. The first team play in the Midland Football League Division One, with the Knights in the Leicestershire Senior League Premier Division. In the 2008/2009 season the club formed a Youth Team (Under 18’s) side who play in the Leicestershire Midweek Floodlit Youth League on Wednesday nights. A Sunday team was reintroduced for this season and they play in the Burton Sunday League Division Four. The club’s junior sides ranging from Under 7’s through to Under 18’s play in the Burton Junior Football League and the Tamworth Junior Football Leagues. The junior section came after the club merged with the David Hunt Soccer School at the beginning of the 2009/2010 season. In February 2004, Ashby Ivanhoe became an FA Charter Standard football club. The club is very ambitious and has plans to progress further up the league pyramid system. The club is run by an experienced management team and enjoys the support of some very prestigious commercial partners. Ashby Ivanhoe had one of their most successful seasons in 2010/11 as they completed a league and cup double by winning the Leicestershire Senior League by nine points and also lifted the Coalville Charity Cup for the very first time after producing a superb second half comeback to beat Bardon Hill 3-2 in the final. They have also reached successive Leicestershire Senior Cup finals in 2011/2012 and 2012/2013 but
had to settle for runners-up on both occasions losing 3-1, firstly to Ibstock United and then Aylestone Park. The 2013/2014 season saw the first team achieve a long-term ambition as they won promotion into the Step 6 of the Pyramid system playing in the East Midlands Counties League for the 2014/2015 season after finishing third place in the Leicestershire Senior League. It was a close title race with the top three all finishing level on points with Ashby third on goal difference. The Reserves were also promoted to the Leicestershire Senior League Division One. 2014/2015 saw Ashby compete at Step 6 for the first time and they had a very good season and secured a top six finish in the East Midlands Counties League which featured victories against all of the sides above them. The Reserve side were involved in a tight title race and it went down to a last day decider against Lutterworth Athletic Reserves but despite the result going against them on the day they were still promoted for the second season in succession and will play at Step 7 in the Leicestershire Senior League Premier Division for 2015/2016. 2015/2016 saw Ashby have another fine season and they mounted a strong title challenge and they led the East Midlands Counties League for the majority of the season before finally finishing in third place. That saw them assured of a first ever appearance in the FA Cup for the 2016/2017 season where the aim again will be to push for promotion to Step 5. The 2016-17 season was the most memorable in the history of Ashby Ivanhoe Football Club. For the very first time in the clubs history they were accepted to play in the most famous club competition in the world, The FA Cup. It turned into a thrilling journey with higher ranked opponents of Quorn and Loughborough Dynamo knocked out before Ashby fell to Ilkeston in the 1st Qualifying Round. Prior to the Ilkeston defeat Ashby received a visit from the

CLUB HISTORY FA Cup which was paraded through the town centre visiting local sponsors before players and spectators had the opportunity to view the cup at the NFU Sports Ground. The league season was inconsistent with a strong finish to the season seeing the team finish in tenth place. The season did end with a first appearance in the final of the Jenkins & Jenkins League Cup but Dunkirk overturned a one goal deficit late on to see Ashby end as runners-up. The 2017-18 season saw the 1st team finish Seventeenth in the East midland Counties and the Reserves finished in the bottom Two and relegation to Division One. 2018-19 saw the 1st team finish in the bottom half of the East Midlands Counties Football League and The Reserves now called the Knights finish runners up in the Senior League Division One and promoted back to step 7 in the Senior League Premier Division. In the 2019-20 season Ashby first team faced a fresh challenge when they were moved to the Midland Premier League Division one by the FA in a shake up of the NLS, the season as we all know was expunged due to the pandemic. The Reserves league also had all results expunged. In the 2021/22 season, the club secured their highest ever league finish, finishing 4th Place and securing a place in the play-offs, where we faced local rivals Stapenhill in the semi-finals and lost 4-2.
The club has now re-constituted as a Community Interest Club (CIC) and made another fantastic step forward as we secured the purchase of our ground on Lower Packington Road, paving the way to develop our facilities further and provide a community hub for the town.
