DAVID MORRIS
THE CHAIRMAN’S NOTES FROM THE BEACH Good afternoon and welcome to today’s game against Bilston Town Community. Bilston come to us in 2nd position in the league and with ourselves a point behind in 3rd it should be a cracker and we welcome their players and officials to Ashby de la Zouch. Well on the field it’s been another great week, a solid win on Tuesday against Coventry Copswood and then we avenged our only defeat of the season by winning away at Coton Green last Saturday. I’m told our away support last week was immense and I know Andy and the players greatly appreciated it, thanks to everyone that travelled and our away games are certainly really enjoyable at the moment and I would encourage anyone who can to try an Ivanhoe away day. On that subject our own Ivanhoe Ultras have written a feature in today’s programme, so that will be er interesting, lol, and if anyone else would like to do the same be it with views or memories of Ivanhoe games then please let me know. The Knights were at home last Saturday and they are on a terrific run and got another win to keep them at the top of the league which is brilliant, keep it going lads. The Junior and girls teams are all now up and running with their fixtures and there is some really entertaining games being played by our teams around the town so please try and catch one if you can. I hope you’ll agree that the pitch is looking in terrific condition and would just like to thank Ada for his professionalism and expertise in getting it looking so good at this time of the year. Also you may have seen Andy being interviewed after the games and those interviews are carried out by Josh Kay whom is studying Football Journalism at Derby University, you may have heard Josh in the media shed too
for the last couple of games doing a great job covering for Mick “Judith Chalmers” Buckley, thanks Josh your work is much appreciated. Talking of holidays, that’s where I am and will be following the game on our excellent Twitter feed this afternoon. Next week all Rhodes (sorry couldn’t resist) lead to Newark for The FA Vase and be great if we can take a huge support over there, for today though another big league game and good luck to Andy and the boys, enjoy the game and COME ON IVANHOE !!! Dave Chairman If you are visiting the ground by car please DO NOT OBSTRUCT the junction to Cambrian Way by parking on the grass/path verge as this is both dangerous and you could get a fixed penalty notice from the Council and or Police.

ANDY GRAY
FIRST TEAM UPDATE Hello everyone. I hope you enjoyed last weeks 2-0 victory over a resilient Coventry Copsewood side. I thought the performance was solid and we looked threatening throughout without conceding many opportunities on our goal. This is a trait that has become a consistent for us so far this season. The whole team are defending superbly and our defensive record is now much improved from previous seasons. That result gave us our 8th clean sheet already this campaign. Our 9th in 16 games, followed last Saturday with our 0-1 defeat of Coton. They currently remain the only team to have beaten us so far this term, so the well earned victory was even more special.
Last Saturday's result was not just due to the players. Your support was a massive part in driving the lads towards victory. All game we could hear you and the noise when our goal went in was deafening.
The game had few chances although most of those were ours. Coton not having a shot on target all game.
After the game, the applause we received was greatly appreciated and we can't thank you all enough.
The winner towards the end was a superb header from Will Robson after a great run from Chris Acott enabled Sam Grouse to improve the angle to deliver his pinpoint cross for Will.
Today we see the visit of Bilston who currently sit 2nd in the league table. I'm sure it will be another tough test but with you all cheering us on I’m know we'll do our best to collect another three points.
Another great result against a very combative opposition.
Regards Andy Gray

VS BILSTON TOWN - SATURDAY 15TH OCTOBER 2022 - WWW.ASHBYIVANHOEFC.CO.UK
IN OPPOSITION TODAY
BILSTON TOWN The Club was founded in 1894, when Bilston Wanderers and Bilston Rovers amalgamated to form Bilston United FC, and played their home games at Prouds Lane playing fields, using the Spread Eagle pub as their changing rooms! In 1908 Bilston United became a Limited Company, with many of the Directors being local businessmen. In 1921 the Club moved to its present 'home' at Queen Street, the first ever game there being against Tamworth Castle. Six years later the Club went bankrupt, with the ground being sold to the local education committee, with the provi-so that as long as there was a Town team, they would be allowed to use Queen Street. The ground is now owned by Wolverhampton Council, though that proviso still applies. Less than a year later the Club was reformed as Bilston FC and returned to Queen Street, playing in the Walsall Senior League. In 1931 the Club changed its name to Bilston Borough, but in 1949, after the end of the War, reverted back to the name of Bilston FC, and entered into a rich period of success, winning the Walsall League and Senior Cup twice, the Walsall Challenge Cup and the Express & Star Cup. The Club then entered the Birmingham League, winning both League and Cup in 1960-61, with striker Ron McDer-mott scoring 78 goals that season. That early 60's side enjoyed one of the most successful periods in the Clubs rich history, winning the Staffs Senior Cup in 1959-60, 1960-61 & 1961-62, they also picked up the Walsall Senior Cup in 1961-62, 196263 & 1963-64. In 1968 Bilston reached the First Round of the FA Cup, losing 1-3 at home, to Halifax, with 4,300 packed inside Queen Street. In 1972-73 Bilston won the West Midlands League & Cup 'double', and also reached the Second Round of the FA Cup, losing 0-1 at home to Barnet after holding them 1-1 at Underhill. The next 'high' period came in the early 80's, when the Club won the Wednesbury Charity Cup four times in five seasons. In 1983 they changed their name to Bilston Town FC and in 1985 gained promotion to the Southern League Midland Division. In 2001 the Club missed out on promotion to the Conference South by a single solitary point to Tiverton, and follow-ing that disappointment entered into a downward spiral of fortunes that eventually saw them go out of business in 2005, then due to a mixture of debt and vandalism at their ground the Club was unable to complete the 2005 sea-son and in theory ceased to exist. The Club was reformed in 2007 and entered into the West Midlands League Division Two, playing their
'home' games at Bantock Park while Queen Street was refurbished and brought back up to standard. The team returned to their 'spiritual home' in 200809 having won promotion to Division One. In 2012-13 the Club won promotion back to the Premier Division and in October 2013 Danny Mason & Lee Onions were installed as player/managers, and safely negotiated premier division retention. In November 2013 the current Directors obtained the Clubs lease from Wolverhampton Council, changing the 'trading name' to Bilston Town Community Club and in January 2014 obtained charitable status. The Club formed a Youth team in season 2013-14 competing in the Midland Floodlit League with the intention of progressing young players into the senior side, thus safeguarding its future still further. Season 2014-2015 saw former players Danny Mason and Lee Onions take the joint manager roles although despite a great start to the season the duo resigned early in the New Year following a poor run of results. Leon Pugh and Scott Hamilton took over the reigns until the end of the season with a mid-table finish the final outcome. The Youth team had a managerial change with Scott Hamilton taking over following the resignation of Shaun Pritchard but not before the young Steelmen had a tremendous run in the FA Youth Cup with a 2nd Qualifying Round win over Hereford United on a memorable night at Queen Street although they just missed out on a 1st round match at home to Port Vale when they lost to Ellesmere Rangers in the 3rd Qualifying round. In the summer of 2015 the club appointed Jon Purdie as the new manager with Josh Skidmore and Mark Davies making up the back room team. Scott Hamilton continued as the Youth team manager for their MFYL campaign, however, Jon and Josh both resigned their positions in March 2016 and Scott Hamilton took over, managing both the first and youth team duties until the end of the season. The club just escaped relegation after a torrid end of season run with a number of first team players refusing to turn up for the club and it was left to the youth team to step in and ensure the fixtures were completed. Scott was appointed first-team manager immediately after the final game of the 2015-2016 season and, along with assistant manager Karl Frankham, they assembled a young squad with a desire to play for the club and finished the 16/17 season in 15th place, a marked improvement on the previous season with the highlight being a 3-1 win over Port Vale’s Academy side in the Staffordshire Senior Cup. During the summer the club received the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service, the equivalent of an MBE for voluntary organisations, and are rightly proud of all

those who work behind the scenes to keep the club and its community work at the forefront. The 2017/2018 season was a tough one for the football club with the sudden passing of both Chairman Graham Hodson and Secretary Paul Lloyd which overshadowed the efforts on the field for a large part of the season. Despite this the club finished in its highest league position since returning to the Premier Division in 2013/14, ending the season in 11th place while also going on to win the Smedley Crooke Memorial Challenge Cup with a 3-2 win over Barnt Green Spartak in the final at Bewdley Town. 2018/2019 saw the club kick-off with seven straight defeats to fall adrift at the bottom of the table but by January they had edged up into mid table following a marked improvement in performances and results. The club eventually finished in 13th place which looked a long way off in mid-September. 2019/2020 was a season of upheaval as the season began with Scott Hamilton in charge but due to personal and work commitments he had to resign and his assistant Noel Cotterill took over. However, Cotterill’s reign was short and, in October, Wayne Spicer replaced him in the manager’s seat with former coach Hayden Foote returning to Queen Street as part of the backroom team. The Covid pandemic shortened season began a period of change as Wayne Spicer took the opportunity
to manage step 3 side Redditch United and Dean Gill move across from Wolverhampton Casuals after applying for the vacant position. A promising start was made to the 2020/21 season, however, the second curtailed season in a row led to the departure of Gill and the majority of the squad to pastures new at Darlaston Town with Wayne Spicer, who had left Redditch for personal reasons earlier in the season, returning to the Bilston dugout with Hayden Foote and Max Black on the coaching staff along with Tom Read as keeper coach and Adam Paget as physio. The club kicked off the 2021/22 season in the Midland Football League Division One following the non-league re-structure and also entered a reserve team in the Birmingham & District Football League to help with the transition from youth to adult football in connection with its partnership with the Sturridge Football Academy. Despite spending most of the season in the top half of the table the club missed out on the playoffs after finishing their first MFL season in 7th place. Manager Wayne Spicer moved into a Head of Football Operations role at the club midway through the season with assistant Hayden Foote taking over the manager's role. At the end of the season Foote resigned due to personal commitments with Mike Dunn appointed the new manager in May 2022, assisted by Ryan Westley and Aaron McFarlane-Archer.

TEAM HARRY & JR
THE SHED END VIEW BY THE IVANHOE ULTRAS Away away away, we follow the ashby away! We love it when the Ashby fixture list gets put in the group chat, as there's nothing better than seeing one of the lads play for the Ivanhoe, and Jack Robinson gets a cracking view from the bench as well! In all seriousness, this is the most promising Ashby Squad we've seen for years, just missing out on promotion last year and on a fantastic cup run this year as well, all of us are looking forward to the beers and bus trip up to Newark on the 22nd, oh, and the football won't be too bad either. Last weeks away fixture to Coton Green saw Ashby win 1-0, from a glancing Will Robson header, a big turn around from the home fixture. A lot of positives to take from that match, the biggest being the need for Moggy to buy some corrugated iron round the NFU for some added atmosphere. Seeing the plans for the proposed development of the NFU will help take Ashby to the next level. The addition of a 4G training pitch will help to develop to the squad, and hopefully play host to Deportivo De La Zouch one day. (Our 6 a side team)
Todays opponents Bilston, who currently place 2nd in the league. Like ashby they have developed on last years squad. A physical side, who aim to whip the ball in to their target man. Harry Stewart and Macca, hope you've got empty pockets lads. An important fixture for the Ivanhoe, a win here will see us surpass them in the standings. Despite not being the oldest fans, we're all steeped in Ivanhoe heritage, with the majority progressing through the Ivanhoe academy at various ages. A great club to play for, and a better team to watch. Team Harry & JR

ASHBY IVANHOE
A
CLUB HISTORY
shby Ivanhoe Football Club was founded in 1948 and play their home matches at the NFU Sports Ground, Lower Packington Road, Ashby de la Zouch in Leicestershire. This is the clubs new home from the beginning of the 2012/2013 season. Since being founded in 1948 up until the end of the 2011/2012 season the clubs previous home was at Hood Park also in Ashby de la Zouch. The club currently consists of Two adult teams and Twelve sides in the Junior section. The first team play in the Midland Football League Division One, with the Knights in the Leicestershire Senior League Premier Division. In the 2008/2009 season the club formed a Youth Team (Under 18’s) side who play in the Leicestershire Midweek Floodlit Youth League on Wednesday nights. A Sunday team was reintroduced for this season and they play in the Burton Sunday League Division Four. The club’s junior sides ranging from Under 7’s through to Under 18’s play in the Burton Junior Football League and the Tamworth Junior Football Leagues. The junior section came after the club merged with the David Hunt Soccer School at the beginning of the 2009/2010 season. In February 2004, Ashby Ivanhoe became an FA Charter Standard football club. The club is very ambitious and has plans to progress further up the league pyramid system. The club is run by an experienced management team and enjoys the support of some very prestigious commercial partners. Ashby Ivanhoe had one of their most successful seasons in 2010/11 as they completed a league and cup double by winning the Leicestershire Senior League by nine points and also lifted the Coalville Charity Cup for the very first time after producing a superb second half comeback to beat Bardon Hill 3-2 in the final. They have also reached successive Leicestershire Senior Cup finals in 2011/2012 and 2012/2013 but
had to settle for runners-up on both occasions losing 3-1, firstly to Ibstock United and then Aylestone Park. The 2013/2014 season saw the first team achieve a long-term ambition as they won promotion into the Step 6 of the Pyramid system playing in the East Midlands Counties League for the 2014/2015 season after finishing third place in the Leicestershire Senior League. It was a close title race with the top three all finishing level on points with Ashby third on goal difference. The Reserves were also promoted to the Leicestershire Senior League Division One. 2014/2015 saw Ashby compete at Step 6 for the first time and they had a very good season and secured a top six finish in the East Midlands Counties League which featured victories against all of the sides above them. The Reserve side were involved in a tight title race and it went down to a last day decider against Lutterworth Athletic Reserves but despite the result going against them on the day they were still promoted for the second season in succession and will play at Step 7 in the Leicestershire Senior League Premier Division for 2015/2016. 2015/2016 saw Ashby have another fine season and they mounted a strong title challenge and they led the East Midlands Counties League for the majority of the season before finally finishing in third place. That saw them assured of a first ever appearance in the FA Cup for the 2016/2017 season where the aim again will be to push for promotion to Step 5. The 2016-17 season was the most memorable in the history of Ashby Ivanhoe Football Club. For the very first time in the clubs history they were accepted to play in the most famous club competition in the world, The FA Cup. It turned into a thrilling journey with higher ranked opponents of Quorn and Loughborough Dynamo knocked out before Ashby fell to Ilkeston in the 1st Qualifying Round. Prior to the Ilkeston defeat Ashby received a visit from the

CLUB HISTORY FA Cup which was paraded through the town centre visiting local sponsors before players and spectators had the opportunity to view the cup at the NFU Sports Ground. The league season was inconsistent with a strong finish to the season seeing the team finish in tenth place. The season did end with a first appearance in the final of the Jenkins & Jenkins League Cup but Dunkirk overturned a one goal deficit late on to see Ashby end as runners-up. The 2017-18 season saw the 1st team finish Seventeenth in the East midland Counties and the Reserves finished in the bottom Two and relegation to Division One. 2018-19 saw the 1st team finish in the bottom half of the East Midlands Counties Football League and The Reserves now called the Knights finish runners up in the Senior League Division One and promoted back to step 7 in the Senior League Premier Division. In the 2019-20 season Ashby first team faced a fresh challenge when they were moved to the Midland Premier League Division one by the FA in a shake up of the NLS, the season as we all know was expunged due to the pandemic. The Reserves league also had all results expunged. In the 2021/22 season, the club secured their highest ever league finish, finishing 4th Place and securing a place in the play-offs, where we faced local rivals Stapenhill in the semi-finals and lost 4-2.
The club has now re-constituted as a Community Interest Club (CIC) and made another fantastic step forward as we secured the purchase of our ground on Lower Packington Road, paving the way to develop our facilities further and provide a community hub for the town.
