CHAIRMANS WELCOME Good afternoon and welcome to today’s match against our visitors West Bridgford FC and may I extend a warm welcome to the players, officials and spectators of West Bridgford FC and hope that we all enjoy a good match. Finally, we managed to see a game at the NFU last Tuesday following a very wet winter and a lot of hard work by Ian Irving and investment by the club. As clubs, we are all in the same position and each winter is becoming an increasing challenge to get games played but also as the pressure increases to maintain pitches in the best condition, the challenge come to repair pitches that can get destroyed in just one game. It is worth noting that Step 6 football relies upon the referee to carry out a pitch inspection to determine whether a game is “safe for players” to play. The decision is not that of our groundsman or anyone else in order to “protect” pitches. Therefore I would like to commend the referees that have actually made, what we believe, to be the right decision in the past to cancel fixtures due to “player safety”. I could go on to share that “in my day we played on pitches that were like a ploughed field” but times have changed and everyone associated with football is working hard to provide players and spectators with a better experience on matchdays and that starts with the pitches. It is also worth remembering that all clubs have some fantastic volunteers behind the scenes that work tirelessly on their pitches to get them ready for matchday and without these people involved, players would be playing on very poor pitches. The only thing I have ever asked of our players is that if their effort on the pitch during the game matches the effort that our groundsman, Ian Irving puts in off the pitch prior to the game then we will go far. The games are coming thick and fast now at the ground for all of our teams with 29 games left to play on the pitch from now until end April. Please continue to show your support to all of the teams, I know the players really appreciate it. In the coming weeks I will be sharing information with you on our 70th year anniversary celebrations, the new “In The Community” initiative and the end of season awards dinner. All that remains is to wish our players well today and hope we all are in for a good game. Stuart Bonser Club Chairman

THE PRESIDENTS VIEW Good afternoon & welcome to The NFU where hopefully the bad weather is behind us and we can get stuck into what I’m told are 32 remaining games to be held here before the season ends. Today sees us entertain last years’ champions West Bridgford who like ourselves find themselves at the wrong end of the table, so it’s a vital game for both sides & let’s hope we get the 3 points we desperately need. That said the last 3 away games have been hugely encouraging, not just because we won them all, but the lads have really come together with spirit and commitment and along with that played some tremendous football too. The display at Barrow last week was superb, in driving rain & Baltic conditions we hung on brilliantly for a well-deserved win. Congratulations to the Sunday side who have won through to The Divisional Cup Final, to be played at Stapenhill FC so well done to Rogerdinho & the lads & good luck in the final. Finally, you will have noticed a new portacabin’s arrival over the winter & this and other improvements to the ground will start to be worked on over the coming weeks. I’ll post on Facebook what we are doing & when, it’s always the same old faces that assist and I can tell you that we are mostly old farts with knackered backs & knees, so if anyone fancies assisting regularly/occasionally we would be delighted to see you. These facilities benefit everyone at the club and joking aside we need more help! Good luck to Craig, Mark & the lads this afternoon and enjoy the game. YOUTH TEAM UPDATE Frustrating times for the midweek youth team at present with no games being played due to the weather conditions (only played 3 games since the beginning of November). The team is currently on a bit of a revival winning 3 games on the bounce. Let’s hope the distribution in fixtures doesn’t hinder this revival. We welcome back to the squad Alex Ford, who has returned from his short sabbatical to Bardon (I told you you'd miss us). Alex I'm sure will quickly get back to the performance levels of those before he left. He'll have a job getting back that starting position at the moment with Jack Abel, Ollie Boyd and Fin Kemp all performing outstandingly at Centre back since Fords' departure conceding no goals. The competition for places will hopefully stand us in good stead for the remaining fixtures. As always we are always on the lookout for fresh talent that will help improve the team, therefore any 16-18 year olds that want to look at joining then please get in touch. Over the close season and summer we will be looking to put on some trial sessions to help shape the squads for next season. Watch this space for further details. Ian Stewart, Youth Team Manager

IN OPPOSITION TODAY WEST BRIDGFORD West Bridgford Colts Football Club was formed in 1990 with the simple ethos of providing local youngsters with a game of football. From the start our strategy was to provide football for all, not just the more able players. We were one of the first junior clubs in the area to regularly field multiple teams at the same age group. Starting off with a couple of boys’ teams the club grew steadily, resulting in us running 18 teams by 2000.
In 1994 we signed a lease for the Coronation Ground in West Bridgford. This provided us with a base with a clubhouse, as well as 3 x 11-a-side pitches and a number of different sized small sided pitches, for our 5, 7 and 9 a side teams. In 1996 we started the girls section, which has grown steadily every year, resulting in the Ladies team, West Bridgford Ladies, being formed in 2006.
In 2008 the club signed a 25 year lease for our current home, Regatta Way. The Coronation Ground having been purchased by the council to build a new school. The club took the wise decision to install floodlights at the new ground with an eye of the future of the club as we always hoped to run a successful men’s team. 2010 saw the formation of West Bridgford Colts Vets.
We formed the senior men’s 1st team, West Bridgford Football Club, in 2011 to provide an exit route for our players. We achieved promotion from Division 2 of the Precision Notts. Senior League, finishing runners-up, as well as reaching the final of the Nottinghamshire Intermediate Cup, losing narrowly after extra time. In the season 2013-14, we again finished runners up in the 1st Division, to be promoted into the Senior league of the NSL and last season, 2014-15 we were runners up in the senior league, and finalists in the NSL cup, losing out to Wollaton on both occasions. In the 2015-2016 season we finished 3rd in the NSL premier league which gave the team promotion, and won the Nott’s FA intermediate cup.
During 2016, the club installed hard standing around 2 edges of our pitch, a 100 seater spectator stand and enclosing the pitch with fencing as we planned for the future development of the club. The total spend was something just over £50,000. This along with our team’s efforts on the field ensured we achieved promotion into the EMCL. The team won the EMCL in the 2016-17 season but elected not to take promotion into the Midlands League.
We are a Charter Standard Community Club which this season comprises of over 90 teams with 1300 players and are the biggest football Club in the country in terms of number of teams.

ASHBY IVANHOE FC CLUB HISTORY
8
F
Ashby Ivanhoe Football Club was founded in 1948 and play their home matches at the NFU Sports Ground, Lower Packington Road, Ashby de la O 4 UN 19 Zouch in Leicestershire. This is the clubs new home from the beginning of the DED 2012/2013 season. Since being founded in 1948 up until the end of the 2011/2012 season the clubs previous home was at Hood Park also in Ashby de la Zouch.
The club currently consists of three adult teams and a youth team. The first team play in the East Midlands Counties League, with the Reserves in the Leicestershire Senior League Premier Division. In the 2008/2009 season the club formed a Youth Team (Under 18’s) side who play in the Leicestershire Midweek Floodlit Youth League on Wednesday nights. A Sunday team was re-introduced for this season and they play in the Burton Sunday League Division Four. The club also has a large number of junior sides ranging from Under 7’s through to Under 18’s who play in the Burton Junior Football League, Tamworth Junior Football League and the Derby City League. The junior section came after the club merged with the David Hunt Soccer School at the beginning of the 2009/2010 season. In February 2004, Ashby Ivanhoe became an FA Charter Standard football club. The club is very ambitious and has plans to progress further up the league pyramid system. The club is run by an experienced management team and enjoys the support of some very prestigious commercial partners. Ashby Ivanhoe had one of their most successful seasons in 2010/2011 as they completed a league and cup double by winning the Leicestershire Senior League by nine points and also lifted the Coalville Charity Cup for the very first time after producing a superb second half comeback to beat Bardon Hill 3-2 in the final. They have also reached successive Leicestershire Senior Cup finals in 2011/2012 and 2012/2013 but had to settle for runners-up on both occasions losing 3-1, firstly to Ibstock United and then Aylestone Park. The 2013/2014 season saw the first team achieve a long-term ambition as they won promotion into the Step 6 East Midlands Counties League for the 2014/2015 season after finishing third place in the Leicestershire Senior League. It was a close title race with the top three all finishing level on points with Ashby third on goal difference. The Reserves were also promoted to the Leicestershire Senior League Division One. 2014/2015 saw Ashby compete at Step 6 of the non-league pyramid for the first time and they had a very good season and secured a top six finish in the East Midlands Counties League which featured victories against all of the sides above them. The Reserve side were involved in a tight title race and it went down to a last day decider against Lutterworth Athletic Reserves but despite the result going against them on the day they were still promoted for the second season in succession and would play at Step 7 in the Leicestershire Senior League Premier Division for 2015/2016.

ASHBY IVANHOE FC CLUB HISTORY 2015/2016 saw Ashby have another fine season and they mounted a strong title challenge and they led the East Midlands Counties League for the majority of the season before finally finishing in third place. That saw them assured of a first ever appearance in the FA Cup for the 2016/2017 season. Last season was the most memorable in the history of Ashby Ivanhoe Football Club. For the very first time in the clubs history they were accepted to play in the most famous club competition in the world, The FA Cup. It turned into a thrilling journey with higher ranked opponents of Quorn and Loughborough Dynamo knocked out before Ashby fell to Ilkeston in the 1st Qualifying Round. Prior to the Ilkeston defeat Ashby received a visit from the FA Cup which was paraded through the town centre visiting local sponsors before players and spectators had the opportunity to view the cup at the NFU Sports Ground. The league season was inconsistent with a strong finish to the season seeing the team finish in tenth place. The season did end with a first appearance in the final of the Jenkins & Jenkins League Cup but Dunkirk overturned a one goal deficit late on to see Ashby end as runners-up. The new season sees a new management team at the helm of the club with Glyn Andrews and Craig Picknell joining the club from Friar Lane & Epworth with the aim of achieving promotion to Step 5.
