PRESIDENT WELCOME Good afternoon & welcome to The NFU, can I extend a warm welcome to the players & officials of Belper Town & hope we have a good game in store today.

It was a good last weekend for the club with The Knights progressing in The County Cup and the first team had a terrific victory at Heanor Town (you can see highlights of that game on our social media links). Both sides have a great chance in the county competitions & it would be great for the club if we could get to the final in one/both this season ! Looking at the East Midlands Counties league table a couple of wins can shoot us right up the table & the Knights are right up near the top of their league so lots to play for & thank you for your support as always !

You might be aware that our town centre hostelry of choice The Bulls Head is currently closed for refurbishment, so we thought it would be a good opportunity to make our own newly refurbished clubhouse open with extended hours during the week. So far it has been a great success with a terrific friendly atmosphere & sport available on our 3 TV’s so if you fancy a drink after work or watching midweek football you are most welcome to join us. As with all income generated at this football club we try to improve the facilities for everyone within the club & we have now been able to light the car park and we will continue to do what we can bit by bit to improve facilities further for all to enjoy. As always if you or you know someone who can assist the club in any role then please point them in our direction, we have numerous opportunities that we are aware that we can progress but with limited volunteers some things have to stay on the back burner until we can get around to them.

Good luck to Craig, Steve & the lads this afternoon, enjoy the game.

David Morris President

IN OPPOSITION TODAY Belper United Belper United came into formation around the early 1920’s but there are no records, only photographic evidence exists, and it is believed the club folded in the late 1940’s. In 1969 local players Frank Watson and Dennis Carter merged Milford Sports and Belper Park Rangers to re-form Belper United. During the seventies and mid-eighties, the club enjoyed many successful periods. During the Nineties the club had more success, but towards the turn of the century United had a more turbulent time with the club only fielding one side. David Poplar and Glyn Carter took the helm and restored the club’s reputation very quickly, and at this time re-formed the reserve side and the seeds of a stronger committee were set. For the 2011/12 season the club moved from the Midland Regional Alliance and joined the Central Midlands League, South Division, part of the National league System and without doubt the club has made massive strides since that move. This coincided with the first team moving from the Alton Manor ground to groundshare at Belper Town. Season 2012-13 saw the first team finishing third in the league, whilst the reserves had a fantastic season completing a league and cup double. On the back of that, the promise of a good 2013-2014 season was quickly thwarted by an unprecedented injury crisis of several first team players which we never recovered from and that had a knock-on effect on the reserves leading to a disappointing season all round. With Paul Postlethwaite taking over the 1st team manager role, a new management team in the reserves together with the continued support of our main sponsor, internationally renowned but local boiler maker Vaillant, the 1St team had a successful 2014-15 season finishing 5th in the League, Semi finalists in the League Cup and winners of the Floodlit Cup. The Reserves finished a creditable mid table. The 2015-16 season was our most successful year when we gained promotion to Step 6 Football in the East Midlands Counties Football League. A great time to be part of this Club and a massive achievement for Paul Postlethwaite and assistant manager Matt Freeman 2016-17 was always going to be an exciting year and a huge challenge for the Club entering a new League with established Clubs and recognising it was always going to be tough. The Club also moved from the ground share at Christchurch Meadow, Belper to the Anderson Electrical Arena at Borrowash. The season started disastrously with half the squad picking up injuries in the first month and we were precariously sitting in the relegation position. After a lack lustre Derbyshire Cup game Paul decided he had taken the Club as far as he could and resigned, a body blow for such a stalwart of the Club as first player and then manager. With Matt Freeman taking charge he enlisted the help of Ian McAndrew, an experienced coach at this level. Together they soon made light work of consolidating the team and getting results. By the end of the season we were the inform team and with everything considered finished in a very creditable 13th position. 2017-18 saw the Club restructure with the Reserve team and u21 teams disbanded and the Junior Section become independent of the Senior Section. Matt Freeman and Ian McAndrew were retained as joint Managers and assisted by Simon Ferrar as Physio. The season started well and confident performances saw the Club finish in a very creditable 5th position. The announcement by the management team that they would be “retiring” at the end of the 2017-18 season was a great disappointment following their successful development of the Club. The success had given the Club the opportunity to enter the FA Cup for the first time in its history and following on the entry in the FA Vase for the last four years. Belper United also won the EMCFL 2017-18 Respect Award. A new Management team of Matt (Macca)Collins, Dave Moon, Adam Burton and Physio George Screaton have been appointed for the 2018-19 season. The Club also returns to Christchurch Meadow, Belper to play at the Silver X Stadium.

ASHBY KNIGHTS UPDATE Once again I would like to wish Craig and the lads all the best in todays game.

Another pleasing result last weekend for the Knights as we beat local side Thringstone in the cup and progressed into the next round. We controlled the game from start to finish and took the lead within 10 seconds with Ben Pollard slotting home. The lads played some of the best football of the season in spells and we were too strong for Thringstone in the end winning 6-2.

Moving onto for todays game we are away to Earl Shilton Albion which we know won't be an easy game and from past games against them their pitch has always been poor so we may need to change the way we play but I have full belief that the lads will perform and come away with the 3 points.

Another pleasing thing for me and Paz is that we are getting some of the injured lads back out on the pitch which is giving us plenty of competition for places.

We hope that everyone will get behind the lads at our next home game and keep the support up!!!

THE OPPOSITION STAPENHILL They were formed in 1947 and ten years after formation they joined the Leicestershire Senior League Division Two and found immediate success, gaining promotion in their debut season and winning the Division One championship in the following two seasons. They remained in that division, apart from a single season (1971/1972) in Division Two, winning the top flight, now renamed the Premier Division, twice more – 1986/1987 and 1988/1989. They then joined the Midland Combination Premier Division, staying there for five seasons until they became a founding member of the Midland Alliance where they remained until resigning from the league in January 2002. Later that year they joined the Leicestershire Senior League and were promoted as runners-up into the Premier Division. In the 2007/2008 season, they were members of the Midland Football Alliance, but after a fire ravaged their home stadium the club was forced to close down. The club reformed in 2009 and rejoined the Leicestershire Senior League and gained promotion to the EMCL in the 2012/2013 season. ASHBY IVANHOE FC CLUB HISTORY

70 YE AR S

The club currently consists of three adult teams and a youth team. The first team play in the East Midlands Counties League, with the Reserves in the Leicestershire Senior League Premier Division. In the 2008/2009 season the club formed a Youth Team (Under 18’s) side who play in the Leicestershire Midweek Floodlit Youth League on Wednesday nights. A Sunday team was re-introduced for this season and they play in the Burton Sunday League Division Four. The club also has a large number of junior sides ranging from Under 7’s through to Under 18’s who play in the Burton Junior Football League, Tamworth Junior Football League and the Derby City League. The junior section came after the club merged with the David Hunt Soccer School at the beginning of the 2009/2010 season. In February 2004, Ashby Ivanhoe became an FA Charter Standard football club. The club is very ambitious and has plans to progress further up the league pyramid system. The club is run by an experienced management team and enjoys the support of some very prestigious commercial partners. Ashby Ivanhoe had one of their most successful seasons in 2010/2011 as they completed a league and cup double by winning the Leicestershire Senior League by nine points and also lifted the Coalville Charity Cup for the very first time after producing a superb second half comeback to beat Bardon Hill 3-2 in the final. They have also reached successive Leicestershire Senior Cup finals in 2011/2012 and 2012/2013 but had to settle for runners-up on both occasions losing 3-1, firstly to Ibstock United and then Aylestone Park. The 2013/2014 season saw the first team achieve a long-term ambition as they won promotion into the Step 6 East Midlands Counties League for the 2014/2015 season after finishing third place in the Leicestershire Senior League. It was a close title race with the top three all finishing level on points with Ashby third on goal difference. The Reserves were also promoted to the Leicestershire Senior League Division One. 2014/2015 saw Ashby compete at Step 6 of the non-league pyramid for the first time and they had a very good season and secured a top six finish in the East Midlands Counties League which featured victories against all of the sides above them. The Reserve side were involved in a tight title race and it went down to a last day decider against Lutterworth Athletic Reserves but despite the result going against them on the day they were still promoted for the second season in succession and would play at Step 7 in the Leicestershire Senior League Premier Division for 2015/2016.

ASHBY IVANHOE FC CLUB HISTORY 2015/2016 saw Ashby have another fine season and they mounted a strong title challenge and they led the East Midlands Counties League for the majority of the season before finally finishing in third place. That saw them assured of a first ever appearance in the FA Cup for the 2016/2017 season. Last season was the most memorable in the history of Ashby Ivanhoe Football Club. For the very first time in the clubs history they were accepted to play in the most famous club competition in the world, The FA Cup. It turned into a thrilling journey with higher ranked opponents of Quorn and Loughborough Dynamo knocked out before Ashby fell to Ilkeston in the 1st Qualifying Round. Prior to the Ilkeston defeat Ashby received a visit from the FA Cup which was paraded through the town centre visiting local sponsors before players and spectators had the opportunity to view the cup at the NFU Sports Ground. The league season was inconsistent with a strong finish to the season seeing the team finish in tenth place. The season did end with a first appearance in the final of the Jenkins & Jenkins League Cup but Dunkirk overturned a one goal deficit late on to see Ashby end as runners-up.
