CHAIRMANS WELCOME Good afternoon and welcome to all our loyal and new supporters for our opening game of the 2017-18 Season and may I also extend a warm welcome to the Players, officials and supporters of Teversall FC who visit us for the first time as a newly promoted Club and I wish them well in their first Season in the EMCFL. I, for one, am so glad that the Season is underway in many ways and that the “Silly Season” is almost done. As many of you will be aware there has been lots of “talk” since the end of last Season and even more “nonsense” during the break from largely “un-qualified mouths”, but that’s football as we now know it. For the record, I am not one for airing opinions on Social Media and the local pub as it serves no good to the future of what we are building and as such my focus remains on the future and not the past and only time will tell as to whether decisions I made at the end of last Season were the right ones and whether the players have made the right decision by leaving the club and next April will determine the facts of these decisions. That said, it never ceases to amaze me how some people behave over the course of pre-season, you have players full of in-decision and “keeping their options open” and not committing to signing (they forget this is Step 6 not the Premier League and that their names won’t be on the INS and OUT report on Sky News. Additionally, you have clubs continuing to throw money at players for all the wrong reasons and in the hope that it brings them success and for those that know me, I am very clear on money at this level and I actually do not blame players for going to clubs that offer the incentive of money to play but I would question the Clubs and their reasoning for doing it as there are too many examples now of clubs being caught in the trap of having to pay players otherwise they can’t field a team and I would ask them, WHY? That said I am proud that 2 of our players, Luke Thorogood and Josh Riley have made the step into Step 4 football this Season and advanced their football by doing so. Both players have grown up with Ashby Ivanhoe FC and we should be proud to acknowledge the part we played, as a club, to assist in their progress up the pyramid and we wish both players well for the Season ahead at their new club. As Chairman, my only mandate is to always do what is in the Clubs best interest and I believe that we are in a far stronger position today than at the end of last Season and it gives me great pleasure to welcome and introduce Glyn and Craig to Ashby Ivanhoe FC as your New Management team. Both come with a great appetite to move us forward and both get the clubs philosophy on the development and introduction of “home grown” players whilst having the knowledge and capability to attract players that can move us forward from the local catchment and I would like to welcome all the new and existing players who are spread across our Squads to the club and you are all showing great desire to want to play and represent Ashby Ivanhoe FC. One Such player is Jordan McCourt who is the Clubs new Captain and Jordan comes with a huge amount of experience having played some of his career for Tenerife in La Liga and even this past week was interviewed by the Spanish press on his move to Ashby Ivanhoe FC and for those of you who read the reports and coverage it was credit to Jordans professionalism that he mentioned and held Ashby Ivanhoe FC in high regard as his chosen club going forward and I am sure he

CHAIRMANS WELCOME will be a huge asset to the Club and players around him. As some of you will know, Glyn has been with Ashby Ivanhoe FC before in a variety of roles but never at the helm and I believe this is his time along with Craig to show what they can do. We have discussed at length the objectives for the Season and I am enthused by their commitment, drive and professionalism but more importantly, they “get local football” and the need to be a Club not just a team. In addition to Glyn and Craig, I am delighted that Marc Sargeant has remained as our reserve team manager following his arrival part way through last Season. The key to any Clubs long term success is the development of a strong, young and motivated reserve side and Marc knows this better than most that I have known and it is a pleasure having him involved with the Club as, again, he gets it and is keen to promote the right players to the first team. As you will see we have continued to improve the ground over the short break and we aim to carry on with improvements throughout the Season. The work that Ian Irving has contributed, yet again, is amazing and the hours he spends at the club (despite having to undergo eye surgery) is remarkable and he is a real asset to the club and personally thank him. In addition to Ian we have again had great support from Jon Emmerson and his willing volunteers, Dave Morris, Ryan Morris, Colm Meaney, Kevin Poole, Charlie Tissington Jnr and a special mention to Keith Wright and John Lewis who have assisted this preseason with improvements and décor to the changing rooms at the club. I would like to thank all of our Sponsors for their continued support and renewal for the forthcoming Season and welcome new Sponsors to the club too. This Season I am pleased to announce one of new sponsors as BOTT LTD and I look forward to working with them during the season as they have extended a wide amount of support to the club including being our new Hospitality Suite Sponsor. On the mention of hospitality, I am pleased to announce that we were granted the Hospitality Award from the league for last Season and this in recognition from votes cast by visiting clubs on how we look after them during their experience with us and thanks to Mick Buckley and Charlie Tissington Jnr for being great hosts for our visiting teams. In addition to the Hospitality award we were also awarded the Matchday Programme of The Year Award too and rightfully so as Matthew Lester produces an amazing publication at this level of football and should be very proud that he has won this 2 Seasons out of 3 now, well done Matthew. All that remains to wish the players and team the very best for todays opening game and to thank you for your continued support of Ashby Ivanhoe FC and enjoy the game. Stuart Bonser Club Chairman

FIRST TEAM UPDATE Hello and welcome to the NFU Sports Ground, home of Ashby Ivanhoe FC for our opening game of the 2017/2018 season against Teversal. Glyn and I extend a warm welcome to our home support, Teversal players, officials and supporters to what is our first competitive game as joint managers at Ashby Ivanhoe FC. It has been a whirlwind of a pre-season where we have built an exciting new squad made up of young local players. This club has huge ambition and the Chairman, Glyn and I have been working hard to create an environment, on and off the field, where the players can flourish and compete. We are still very much in what I call ‘silly season’. Summer holidays are in full swing. As one player returns another two leave! With that in mind we are using our squad to the maximum today and will be a few weeks before we get a settled side. We can’t use that as an excuse though as I am sure our opponents are in the same boat and we have every confidence in the players at our disposal today. Today’s opponents are league newbies Teversal. We watched them last week in their season opener. They stood up well to a physical Gedling Miners Welfare team and were value for the 3 points. We will need to be at it from the start this afternoon. Enjoy the game and please be vocal in your support for this new squad, many of whom will be playing at the NFU for the first time today. Thanks Craig Picknell and Glyn Andrews First Team Management FIRST TEAM UPDATE SPONSORED BY

RESERVE TEAM UPDATE Ever since the last set of games of last season I have been looking forward to pre season and the start of the coming season. When I came into the club in November/ December the squad was overhauled with a lot of our youth team players for one reason or another with good effect. Results didn't always go our way but the young players progression was impressive as we looked to give them an environment where there is no pressure while they adapt to the senior game. This coming season we will be looking to continue with using players from within our youth system as some of our players have already made the step up to the first team squad with the most notable being Harry Stewart coming on in the East Midlands Counties League Cup Final for the first team after a successful transition from the reserves at the end of the season showing there is a pathway through the reserves. Having just received this seasons fixtures I'm excited for us to start as pre season has so far been very positive with the performances that have been put in by our young group. I'm looking forward to offering Glyn & Craig support through the reserves and seeing these young players step up to the first team this season. Marc Sargeant Reserve Team Manager

YOUTH TEAM UPDATE After the successful season we enjoyed last term (not points obtained but player development) we go preparing for the new season with some optimism that we might actually win a league game. The structure of the team from last term being predominantly 15 / 16 year olds has meant we don’t have the same team rebuilding exercise we have previously faced (which is great for the club), with the majority of last season’s squad re-signing. Due to an influx of players from another club, we have made the ambitious decision to try to field two midweek youth teams, which if successful will enable our Reserves and 1st team to have the best local talent to call upon. Like every club we are always interested in seeing new players therefore any 16 to 18 year olds that want to explore mid-week football should get in touch. Unfortunately Alex Roome who managed the mid-week youth team for many years has made the decision to resign as manager, Alex has done a tremendous job whilst fulfilling the role and I know he will be missed certainly by the players. I’d like to personally thank Alex for giving me the opportunity to assist with the team last season and I look forward to building on the foundation set. Ian Stewart Youth Team Manager

THE PRESIDENT'S VIEW Is it that time already. I honestly can’t remember us starting a season so early, but I hope you all agree it’s great to get going again for another season in the East Midlands Counties League. There have been lots of comings & goings over the close season & I would like to wish Glyn & Craig a successful season with the first team and I am also delighted that Marc is to continue his good work with the reserves too, all the best for the season guys. The league also looks a little different with South Normanton Athletic having been promoted, so we lose a long journey there, I for one will miss that trip as they were always a welcoming club and we also had a tendency to win there too! Out of the league in the other direction go Greenwood Meadows (finally) , and I certainly won’t miss going there, and our neighbours the various villages of Ellistown & Ibstock who had been struggling for quite some time, and on our visit there towards the end of the season it was in a sad state of affairs and I did feel sorry for the guys who clearly have worked hard to support their club down the years. It just goes to show how important infrastructure and volunteers are to a local football club to enable it to exist & hopefully flourish and develop. We have 3 new teams to visit this season, Teversal, our visitors today so we welcome their players & officials to The NFU for the first time, Selston and Clifton All Whites, so it will be great to visit those grounds for the first time (Tissington Taxi booked) & to see us keep up our good travelling support this season too. We have a good run of home games to kick off the season, so let’s all pull together, support the team, and the club, and enjoy the season everyone. David Morris Club President

ASHBY IVANHOE FC SUPPORTERS CLUB A very warm welcome to everyone here at the NFU Sports Ground for the first 2017/2018 home game of the East Midlands Counties League season against Sutton in Ashfield side Teversal. So what will this season bring? Once again we have new management in place and we wish Craig, Glyn and his team plus the players old & new all the very best for the new season. What can we achieve on the field? Let’s hope we can get off to a good start and with hard work and commitment promotion or at least a top half finish. Today's match sees us in league action against newcomers Teversal who last year played in the Northern Counties East League so I'm sure it will be tough match and my prediction is a 2-1 win. If you have questions or comments regarding the club please see me at the ground today or send me an e-mail at mh.buckley@btinternet.com Thanks for your support. IN OPPOSITION TODAY TEVERSAL After a long history of football at Carnarvon Street supporting the local mining community dating back to 1918, under various names including Teversal Miners Welfare or Teversal & Silverhill a long playing history of football to a high level included playing in the FA Cup. The football side of the complex became run down and it was only down to the hard work of Sam Slack in the 1970’s and early 1980’s that football continued, under the banner of youth football. Senior football returned again in 1986 under the name of M.W. Teversal. The closure of Teversal Colliery followed by the Miners Welfare in 1989 saw what some claimed was the final nail in the coffin by the closure of Silverhill Colliery that lead to a steady decline of the site. The period of uncertainty saw action taken with Ashfield District Council taking over the Trusteeship of the complex in 1989, with the name changing to the Teversal Grange Sports and Social Centre, hence the name change to Teversal Grange FC. The name was changed again at the start of the 2000-2001 season to the current name. There is currently uncertain times as the Trustees look to finding a working situation as they have allowed the sites income stream to diminish. But we continue to develop and look to leave a legacy not another derelict site. From the uncertain times, which saw the club running just one Senior team, the club's strength has grown to have two Senior teams, Youth teams right through the ranges from Under 7’s to 16’s, along with training sessions for 5 year olds. A return to national competitions is a mark of how the club as developed, FA Vase 2003-04 season, FA Youth Cup 2004-05 season and the big one the FA Cup 2005-06 which was gained after winning promotion to the Northern Counties East League from the Central Midlands League. However the Football Association changed the entry criteria for the 2009-10 season for the FA Cup and unfortunately this meant exclusion from the competition for a number of step 6 clubs including ourselves since the 2011-12, with the exception of the 2012-13, but the club hope to achieve the standard that allows them to return in the World Famous competition for next season. 2012-13 season saw the club make history again when the introduction of our first ever Ladies side, which bettered all expectations, runners in the Nottinghamshire Girls & Ladies League, League Cup Final runners and County Cup Semifinalist, saw promotion to the East Midlands Ladies League where they have managed to maintain their status for the current season. Having had a blip in the last couple of season’s we hope to see a change in fortunes of the Tevettes. Honours wise in the short term history, the club has gained promotion through the National System without winning a league, and the most recent success was a being finalist in the 2007-2008 Northern Counties East League Wilkinson Sword Trophy, which goes with our runners up berth to Hucknall Town of the Unibond Premier League in the Notts Senior Cup Final at Meadow Lane, losing 2-0 in April 2003, marking the 2002-03 season as one of the best seasons in the clubs history. But the story continues and the aims of the club remain the same, and it’s hoped to reward these efforts with some senior silverware for both the men and ladies, along with the continued success within the club’s Youth Section. Recent successes of the progress of players into the professional game are Ryan Williams (Mansfield Town, Tranmere Rovers Chesterfield, Hull City, Bristol Rovers, and Aldershot Town), Jake Buxton (Mansfield Town, Burton Albion, and Derby County), Dave Kettle (Notts County) and the most recent being Danny Fletcher (Mansfield Town) and Jason Law (Mansfield Town). With numerous players that have progressed to Academies but unfortunately not made the grade.

ASHBY IVANHOE FC CLUB HISTORY

8

F

Ashby Ivanhoe Football Club was founded in 1948 and play their home matches at the NFU Sports Ground, Lower Packington Road, Ashby de la O 4 UN 19 Zouch in Leicestershire. This is the clubs new home from the beginning of the DED 2012/2013 season. Since being founded in 1948 up until the end of the 2011/2012 season the clubs previous home was at Hood Park also in Ashby de la Zouch.

The club currently consists of three adult teams and a youth team. The first team play in the East Midlands Counties League, with the Reserves in the Leicestershire Senior League Premier Division. In the 2008/2009 season the club formed a Youth Team (Under 18’s) side who play in the Leicestershire Midweek Floodlit Youth League on Wednesday nights. A Sunday team was re-introduced for this season and they play in the Burton Sunday League Division Four. The club also has a large number of junior sides ranging from Under 7’s through to Under 18’s who play in the Burton Junior Football League, Tamworth Junior Football League and the Derby City League. The junior section came after the club merged with the David Hunt Soccer School at the beginning of the 2009/2010 season. In February 2004, Ashby Ivanhoe became an FA Charter Standard football club. The club is very ambitious and has plans to progress further up the league pyramid system. The club is run by an experienced management team and enjoys the support of some very prestigious commercial partners. Ashby Ivanhoe had one of their most successful seasons in 2010/2011 as they completed a league and cup double by winning the Leicestershire Senior League by nine points and also lifted the Coalville Charity Cup for the very first time after producing a superb second half comeback to beat Bardon Hill 3-2 in the final. They have also reached successive Leicestershire Senior Cup finals in 2011/2012 and 2012/2013 but had to settle for runners-up on both occasions losing 3-1, firstly to Ibstock United and then Aylestone Park. The 2013/2014 season saw the first team achieve a long-term ambition as they won promotion into the Step 6 East Midlands Counties League for the 2014/2015 season after finishing third place in the Leicestershire Senior League. It was a close title race with the top three all finishing level on points with Ashby third on goal difference. The Reserves were also promoted to the Leicestershire Senior League Division One. 2014/2015 saw Ashby compete at Step 6 of the non-league pyramid for the first time and they had a very good season and secured a top six finish in the East Midlands Counties League which featured victories against all of the sides above them. The Reserve side were involved in a tight title race and it went down to a last day decider against Lutterworth Athletic Reserves but despite the result going against them on the day they were still promoted for the second season in succession and would play at Step 7 in the Leicestershire Senior League Premier Division for 2015/2016.

ASHBY IVANHOE FC CLUB HISTORY 2015/2016 saw Ashby have another fine season and they mounted a strong title challenge and they led the East Midlands Counties League for the majority of the season before finally finishing in third place. That saw them assured of a first ever appearance in the FA Cup for the 2016/2017 season. Last season was the most memorable in the history of Ashby Ivanhoe Football Club. For the very first time in the clubs history they were accepted to play in the most famous club competition in the world, The FA Cup. It turned into a thrilling journey with higher ranked opponents of Quorn and Loughborough Dynamo knocked out before Ashby fell to Ilkeston in the 1st Qualifying Round. Prior to the Ilkeston defeat Ashby received a visit from the FA Cup which was paraded through the town centre visiting local sponsors before players and spectators had the opportunity to view the cup at the NFU Sports Ground. The league season was inconsistent with a strong finish to the season seeing the team finish in tenth place. The season did end with a first appearance in the final of the Jenkins & Jenkins League Cup but Dunkirk overturned a one goal deficit late on to see Ashby end as runners-up. The new season sees a new management team at the helm of the club with Glyn Andrews and Craig Picknell joining the club from Friar Lane & Epworth with the aim of achieving promotion to Step 5.
