CHAIRMANS WELCOME Good afternoon and welcome to today’s Buildbase FA Vase game against our visitors Bewdley Town FC and may I extend a warm welcome to the players, officials and spectators of Bewdley Town FC who have made the long trip and hope you enjoy your stay and our hospitality. My notes this week focus on 2 important aspects that I feel need sharing, 1 – the appreciation given for the work we do as a club and the experience we strive to provide and 2 – the committed volunteers we have at the club. Therefore, I want to start my notes by sharing a twitter message received shortly after our last FA VASE game against Friar Lane and here it is: To receive such kind words really meant a lot to all the volunteers at the club who work tirelesley and selflessly on behalf of the club and it is satisfying that other clubs notice the effort that we all give to providing the best experience we can for all involved at the club. Well done everyone – we do what we do for the greater good of the club. On the matter of volunteers, we are blessed with some very committed and experienced volunteers at the club, who, in their capacity give significant time and add incredible value to the day to day running of the club. It is not until you get involved as a volunteer that you can truly appreciate the extent of how the football club operates week by week. There is always something to do and it always seems to get done as we have a lot of doers, not talkers. However, we don’t always get it right but we always try and make decisions which we believe is right for the greater good of the club and to ensure we continue to move forward both on and off the field. It is testament to those volunteers, including coaches and players, that we are where we are today with a stage set for players and opponents to enjoy a game of football at the 3 venues we have access to in the Town, along with our own training pitches and clubhouse. It is these volunteers that are the foundation of the clubs success and we would like to thank you all for the work you continue to do, most of which goes unnoticed. However, as life itself, we don’t always get things right but are willing to listen to peoples views on ways that we can improve what we do. That said, there comes times when no matter what you do, you simply have a few individuals, that think they can do better, without actually coming forward to volunteer and we urge these people to get on board with our journey or simply stay on the platform as the train that is, ASHBY IVANHOE FC, is ready to leave and continue moving forwards to the next destination. As, I have said before, we have a plan as a THE CLUB WANTS TO club and we are determined to get there in a sustainable, joined up and inclusive way. HEAR YOUR VIEWS AND The club’s junior teams all kicked off their campaigns last weekend and we wish the Coaches and players the very best of luck, fun and enjoyment throughout the season. All that remains is to wish the players good luck for the game and to thank you for your continued support it really is appreciated. Stuart Bonser Club Chairman

FIRST TEAM UPDATE Hello and welcome to the NFU, home of Ashby Ivanhoe FC. I write this excited at the prospect of a FA Vase 2nd Qualifying round! Nothing is more exciting for the fans or players than a cup run in the Vase and we welcome Bewdley Town FC as our opponents today. The great thing about playing a side like Bewdley Town is that we don’t know anything about them. It is an opportunity for management and players to focus on ourselves and what we want to do in the football game rather than worry about how we expect them to set up or play. What we know is that on our day, when we are in form, we can beat anyone. The squad is being used to its full capacity today with several noticeable absences but those stepping in will have a point to prove. We have had two good training sessions this week and we are all ready for today’s game. As always, if we play to our best I have no doubt the result will see us progress. As with all our games, it is our intention to go out with attacking intent. Enjoy the game, keep the faith and please be vocal in your support. IN OPPOSITION TODAY Bewdley Town Bewdley Town Football Club, as it is now known, was formed in 1978, following over 90 years competing under various local names, one of which has been resurrected recently by the youth section as Bewdley Comrades. The club was formed with the merger of two local teams , Bewdley Old Boys F.C and Woodcolliers FC, the latter who played on a Sunday and both originally playing at Gardeners Meadow in Bewdley. The ground at Gardeners Meadow was sold for re-development which meant the club had to seek a new venue and moved temporarily to Kidderminster. A massive fundraising project commenced, which enabled the club to purchase land and return to Bewdley, to their home Ribbesford Meadows under the guidance of Robert Burns. After playing in the Kidderminster and District Leagues, the main senior side under the management of Craig Payton and Chairman Geoff Edwards, joined in 1999,the West Midlands Regional League Division One South. Prior to this Ribbesford Meadows had been an on going project, providing football facilities for all ages including, youth football in the Stourport and District League and Midlands Floodlit League, adult football in the Kidderminster and District League, and can boast being one of the first clubs in Worcestershire in 1993 under FA Coach Chris Middleton to start a Mini Soccer Centre. This centre is still is still in operation, and draws children of all abilities from the age of 4, from all areas of the Wyre Forest region, under the expert tuition of FA Coach Wayne Payton and co-ordinator Jo Payton, and their team of qualified coaches. In 2005, Bewdley Town finished runners up in Division 1 and gained promotion to the West Midlands Premier League, however in order for them to compete at this level, they had to rent the facilities of near rivals Stourport Swifts. In 2006 permission was granted to build stands and erect floodlights, and in their second season, finished third in the league, having lead for much of it, only being thwarted from possibly winning the league, by bad floods meaning them having to play a large number of games in a short period at the end of the season eventually having its toll on the players, if they had won the league however, they would not have been granted promotion due to the on going development of the ground not being completed. In 2007-8 the ground had been given a higher rating allowing them to compete in matches at a higher level and gain promotion if they finished in any of the top places. Bewdley Town FC also made history in this season, when they were allowed to enter the F.A. Vase for the first time, where they reached the third round proper, losing to higher ranked opposition Coventry Sphinx. The following season saw Bewdley make their appearance in the FA Cup, although short lived, when they lost at home to Midland Alliance side Alvechurch FC. The last few seasons, have seen Bewdley Town, under the guidance of joint managers Craig Payton and Brian Lacey, become one of the top sides in the West Midlands Regional League. Their attractive style of football has made them one of the hardest sides to beat, and one which has attracted supporters from all over the country. Work is on going at Ribbesford Meadows, as the committee and loyal band of volunteers continue to develop the ground for higher levels of competition. Their hard work and achievement, was recently recognised by an award from “Groundtastic Magazine for the best stand in the lower levels of non league football and narrowly missed winning best ground in the same category, they have recently attained the necessary grading to allow them to proceed up the non league ladder. The 2008/09 season saw Bewdley Town reach the final of the Worcestershire Senior Urn, losing narrowly to Midland Football Alliance side Studley 3-2 at Aggborough, although many thought they were unlucky to do so. However two years later in the 2010/11 season, they gained their revenge beating Studley 2-1 in front of a crowd of over 500.

IN OPPOSITION TODAY

The 2011-12 season saw Bewdley become a strong cup side, they again reached the final of the Worcestershire Senior Urn, where they retained the trophy, once again in front of a 500+ crowd beating Alvechurch FC from the Midland Football Alliance, coming from a goal down to win 3-2. They also nearly caused an upset in the FA Cup, where after progressing through to the 2nd Qualifying round, they very nearly claimed the scalp of Evostik Southern Premier League side Stourbridge, leading 1-0 with 13 minutes of the game left, but eventually losing 2-1, their victors progressed through to the 2nd round proper. In the 2011/12 season saw Bewdley Town enter a team in the new Under 21 league of the Midland Combination, the first season saw them finish a creditable 4th place in a strong league with a number of academy sides. Season 2012/13 also begins a new chapter, with a new Under 18’s and our Under 14’s entering the Midland Junior Premier League, playing on Saturday mornings, where, very much like the Under 21’s, the competition will be against strong academy sides. The introduction of these teams bodes well for the future of Bewdley Town FC, with a direct route now through from Youth to 1st XI football and beyond, which the club has continued to pursue since the introduction of the Mini Kickers. Bewdley Town were awarded the Charter Standard Adult Status in April 2012 and together with their successful Youth Section, are striving towards Community Club Status. At the end of 2012/13 season, Bewdley added to the trophy cabinet by winning both the Worcestershire Infirmary Charity Senior and Junior Cups with the 1st team beating Malvern Town 4-3 and the Under 21 beating the same opponents 2-1. May 2014 saw an era come to an end, when joint managers Craig Payton and Brian Lacey decided to retire. The position of 1st team manager was handed over to the vastly experienced Phil Mullen with former Kidderminster Harriers striker Paul “Ocker” Davies as his number 2. The 2014-15 season was a struggle for the new look Town, as, not only did the club have new managers, but also had a new team, with a number of the “older heads” deciding to retire, leaving Phil no option but to look to youth. Town finished the season in 17th position, well clear of relegation, but the final game of the season saw them regain the Worcestershire Infirmary Charity Senior Cup with a 1-0 win again at Malvern Town. The 2016-17 season saw the reintroduction of a second team, having been accepted by the West Midlands Regional League, they will compete in Division 2. The team will be under the joint leadership of Wayne Payton and Russ Godfrey giving a much needed link from the youth section to adult football. This season saw the club enter and win the Smedley Crooke Charity Cup with a victory on penalties against Coton Green. The 1st team finished in a creditable 6th position in the league having been as low as 17th at the beginning of January, the Reserves in their 1st season finished 14th. During the close season, the club also obtained an FA grant enabling them to have major drainage work done to the main pitch, hopefully this will mean no mid season break due to waterlogging as has happened in previous years.

ASHBY KNIGHTS UPDATE First of all I would like to wish the best of luck to Craig, Marc, Steve and the lads in todays game. It is still very early in the season for the Knights but so far we have played 3 away games and one at home. From the first four games of the season we are still unbeaten with 3 wins and 1 draw which is a fantastic start and we hope that it will continue throughout the season. We have had 4 very tough fixtures but the lads have listened to what me and Andy have asked from them and gone out and done the business on the pitch. Our second game of the season was a trip to play County Hall who at the time had played 3 and won all of them. We took a point away from there but should have been all 3 with some glorious late chances but it was just one of those games. Our next game was yet again away to Birstall United which was one of the highlights of the season so far. We went 1-0 up and were well on top at half time but the second half they started to apply pressure to us but we defended brilliantly and a special mention has to go to our goal keeper Zac Warriner who was fantastic. We ended up winning the game 2-0. Finally our first home game of the season was up against Barrow Town who were level on points with us at the top of the table so we knew how big the game was even if it was only the fourth of the season. We played Barrow in a pre season friendly and they beat us 2-1 after a dodgy penalty decision. Pier to this game we also had a number of players unavailable for this fixture however the lads as they have done so far took onboard the jobs and tactics that myself and Paz asked them to do and we came out on top with a 4-1 victory with Andy Hulley scoring a hat-trick from left back!! (However two of the goals were from the penalty spot and one and one could have gone down as an own goal). The result ended up taking us top of the league on goal difference. Finally I would like to thank everyones support and hopefully see more people down during the season. Many Thanks Robbie Avins Ashby Ivanhoe Knights Manager

THE OPPOSITION STAPENHILL They were formed in 1947 and ten years after formation they joined the Leicestershire Senior League Division Two and found immediate success, gaining promotion in their debut season and winning the Division One championship in the following two seasons. They remained in that division, apart from a single season (1971/1972) in Division Two, winning the top flight, now renamed the Premier Division, twice more – 1986/1987 and 1988/1989. They then joined the Midland Combination Premier Division, staying there for five seasons until they became a founding member of the Midland Alliance where they remained until resigning from the league in January 2002. Later that year they joined the Leicestershire Senior League and were promoted as runners-up into the Premier Division. In the 2007/2008 season, they were members of the Midland Football Alliance, but after a fire ravaged their home stadium the club was forced to close down. The club reformed in 2009 and rejoined the Leicestershire Senior League and gained promotion to the EMCL in the 2012/2013 season. A Sunday team was re-introduced for this season and they play in the Burton Sunday League Division Four. The club also has a large number of junior sides ranging from Under 7’s through to Under 18’s who play in the Burton Junior Football League, Tamworth Junior Football League and the Derby City League. The junior section came after the club merged with the David Hunt Soccer School at the beginning of the 2009/2010 season. In February 2004, Ashby Ivanhoe became an FA Charter Standard football club. The club is very ambitious and has plans to progress further up the league pyramid system. The club is run by an experienced management team and enjoys the support of some very prestigious commercial partners. Ashby Ivanhoe had one of their most successful seasons in 2010/2011 as they completed a league and cup double by winning the Leicestershire Senior League by nine points and also lifted the Coalville Charity Cup for the very first time after producing a superb second half comeback to beat Bardon Hill 3-2 in the final. They have also reached successive Leicestershire Senior Cup finals in 2011/2012 and 2012/2013 but had to settle for runners-up on both occasions losing 3-1, firstly to Ibstock United and then Aylestone Park. The 2013/2014 season saw the first team achieve a long-term ambition as they won promotion into the Step 6 East Midlands Counties League for the 2014/2015 season after finishing third place in the Leicestershire Senior League. It was a close title race with the top three all finishing level on points with Ashby third on goal difference. The Reserves were also promoted to the Leicestershire Senior League Division One. 2014/2015 saw Ashby compete at Step 6 of the non-league pyramid for the first time and they had a very good season and secured a top six finish in the East Midlands Counties League which featured victories against all of the sides above them. The Reserve side were involved in a tight title race and it went down to a last day decider against Lutterworth Athletic Reserves but despite the result going against them on the day they were still promoted for the second season in succession and would play at Step 7 in the Leicestershire Senior League Premier Division for 2015/2016.

ASHBY IVANHOE FC CLUB HISTORY 2015/2016 saw Ashby have another fine season and they mounted a strong title challenge and they led the East Midlands Counties League for the majority of the season before finally finishing in third place. That saw them assured of a first ever appearance in the FA Cup for the 2016/2017 season. Last season was the most memorable in the history of Ashby Ivanhoe Football Club. For the very first time in the clubs history they were accepted to play in the most famous club competition in the world, The FA Cup. It turned into a thrilling journey with higher ranked opponents of Quorn and Loughborough Dynamo knocked out before Ashby fell to Ilkeston in the 1st Qualifying Round. Prior to the Ilkeston defeat Ashby received a visit from the FA Cup which was paraded through the town centre visiting local sponsors before players and spectators had the opportunity to view the cup at the NFU Sports Ground. The league season was inconsistent with a strong finish to the season seeing the team finish in tenth place. The season did end with a first appearance in the final of the Jenkins & Jenkins League Cup but Dunkirk overturned a one goal deficit late on to see Ashby end as runners-up.
