CHAIRMANS WELCOME Good afternoon and welcome to today’s match against our visitors Anstey Nomads and may I extend a warm welcome to the players, officials and spectators of Anstey Nomads and hope that we all enjoy a good match. I am pleased to report that our Club Captain, Jordan McCourt underwent a successful operation to repair his ruptured knee tendons and our wishes and thoughts are with him for a speedy recovery, albeit the surgeon has stated this will be approximately 8 months but I am sure once Jordan is on his feet we will all see him back supporting the team as a true professional he is. For those of you who watched the last home game against Blaby and Whetstone, I am sure you will agree it was another impressive performance by, yet again a very young side and Craig stated the average age of the team was 20.7. If football was like a west end show the performance would have earned us the 3 points but as we are in a results business we unfortunately came out on the wrong end of a 3-4 scoreline but I know that Craig and Marc will instil into this young side the importance of taking the positives from the game and not dwell on the result too much and each of the players should be proud to have played their part and I hope now the team will gain some consistency and start to string some results together along the way. Last Monday evening the club hosted a Coaching Development Seminar with 2 former Leicester City Legends, Matt Elliott and Steve Claridge and all of our Coaches/Manager were in attendance to continue their learning and development as Coaches with the Club. This is another first for the Club and check out our Social Media for reports and pictures of the evening. As Winter is now upon us it is worth me mentioning Ian Irving, our Operations Manager, who continues to work tirelessly on the pitch and training area and to try and maintain them in the best condition possible which is not easy when you are battling the elements of winter weather but I would like to personally thank Ian for all the work he has and is doing to get games played and no one really sees the amount of hours he dedicates to making sure we have the best chance of watching games here at the NFU, so thank you Ian keep up the good work, albeit I know frustrating at times. All that remains is to wish Craig, Marc and the players today all the best and hope we all enjoy a god game and thank you all for your continued support of the team both home and away. FIRST TEAM UPDATE Hello and welcome to the NFU, home of Ashby Ivanhoe FC. Thank you to all those that have made the trip out to support the team this afternoon.
Today we welcome Anstey Nomads to the NFU in the middle of what is a difficult set of December fixtures. Last Tuesday’s game against Blaby & Whetstone was another test for our young side which averaged at 20 years old and the first half display was as good as any I have seen in the near 2 seasons I have been at the club proving the future is very bright.
What we now need to do is make sure we carry out that level of performance over the 90 minutes as we have proven we can be a match for any side in the league.
Today’s opponents, Anstey, will provide another strong test as they are having a really good season and currently sit in second place in the table.
Also a reminder that we have another midweek game this coming Tuesday (19th December) at home against Kimberley Miners Welfare
Enjoy today’s game and keep the faith

vs Anstey Nomads | Saturday 16th December 2017 | www.ashbyivanhoefc.com
THE PRESIDENTS VIEW Good afternoon & may I welcome our opponents Anstey Nomads today. Many years ago our Chairman, tried to convince me that the best way to win a league was in your first season in it, obviously I thought he was nuts (not for the first time) but he was correct, we had a fabulous first season in The East Midlands Counties League & went very close in our first year. West Bridgford won it at the first attempt last season & the table is being led by the newcomers Selston & Teversal so what do I know eh (stop shouting at the back!!!). Two weeks ago saw a stark contrast in the ups and down of local football. Firstly it was very sad to see our Captain Jordan McCourt seriously injured at Barrow a couple of weeks back, I understand that he has had a knee operation and I am sure that everyone at the football club wishes him well and a speedy and full recovery. On the subject well done to our physio Marie for her care and swift attention at the scene, she recognised the seriousness of the situation very quickly and I’m sure that can only have benefited Jordan, well done Marie. In contrast on the Saturday night I had the pleasure of meeting up with many Ivanhoe (and Holywell Park) stalwarts from many years ago. Bear in mind many of these guys were playing together in the 70’s & 80’s and are still mates and still come together (many travelling from far away) to recount tales of fun & football all these years on. Meanwhile I hear we have lost another home grown youngster off to sit on a lower leagues bench for a couple of quid a week, whilst another of our ex players is at least onto his 3rd tracksuit of the season………well done, will they be meeting up with team mates in 30 or 40 years’ time, I think not !!!! Get behind Craig, Mark & the lads, we desperately need some points so good luck & enjoy the game. Dave Morris Club President

IN OPPOSITION TODAY ANSTEY NOMADS Before the Second World War two clubs, the St Mary’s and the Prims, were playing in Anstey. It was after the war when the boys retuned from the services, that the two clubs, Marys and the PM decided to join forces under the name of Anstey Meths and Mary’s, which formed in 1946. However after one season it was decided that the name of the club would be changed to Anstey Nomads. And so in 1947, Anstey Nomads Football Club, was officially established. With the formation of the Nomads, football in Anstey took on a higher status, for Leicestershire Senior League Football – the highest grade of amateur football in the county – came to the village. Early successes in winning the Senior League Division 1 (1951-52 and 1953-54) were followed by heady exploits in the FA Amateur Cup. In their first attempt they reached the first round proper losing 2-1 at Cambridge. In the second season Gedling Colliery knocked them out in the final qualifying round 2-1 a Gedling. The following season the club wrote a new page in Leicestershire amateur football history, after playing through all five preliminary rounds, their big day arrived when 400 supporters hired a train and made the journey to Gray’s in Essex to see the team win 3-1 in the 1st round proper. The 2nd round saw a crowd of 4,500 at Cropston Road with the Nomads losing 2-1 to Hayes. The club then joined the Central Alliance with little or no success. The revamping of Midlands football saw the club in the East Midlands Regional League in 1967-68 and of the six years spent there, top four places were gained in three of them. Back in the Leicestershire Senior League in 1973 and after winning Division Two in their first season the Nomads became one of the powerhouses of local football mainly under the guidance of John Perkins, Willie Wilcox and Denis Moran. In the 90’s history was created when the Leicestershire Senior Cup and Junior Cup “the double” was achieved in 1994-95. Into the Noughties and 2008-09 was the Nomads most successful season for many a day. Champions of the Leicestershire Senior League and winners of a host of local cups under Stu Deeley. Also gaining promotion to the East Midlands Counties League. And apart from one season steady progress has been made with U21 and U18 teams flirted with. Now established in the East Midlands Counties league, new dressing rooms and a ground overhaul, season 2017-18, with a new Senior League set-up and U18’s midweek floodlit side, is eagerly awaited for.

ASHBY IVANHOE FC CLUB HISTORY
8
F
Ashby Ivanhoe Football Club was founded in 1948 and play their home matches at the NFU Sports Ground, Lower Packington Road, Ashby de la O 4 UN 19 Zouch in Leicestershire. This is the clubs new home from the beginning of the DED 2012/2013 season. Since being founded in 1948 up until the end of the 2011/2012 season the clubs previous home was at Hood Park also in Ashby de la Zouch.
The club currently consists of three adult teams and a youth team. The first team play in the East Midlands Counties League, with the Reserves in the Leicestershire Senior League Premier Division. In the 2008/2009 season the club formed a Youth Team (Under 18’s) side who play in the Leicestershire Midweek Floodlit Youth League on Wednesday nights. A Sunday team was re-introduced for this season and they play in the Burton Sunday League Division Four. The club also has a large number of junior sides ranging from Under 7’s through to Under 18’s who play in the Burton Junior Football League, Tamworth Junior Football League and the Derby City League. The junior section came after the club merged with the David Hunt Soccer School at the beginning of the 2009/2010 season. In February 2004, Ashby Ivanhoe became an FA Charter Standard football club. The club is very ambitious and has plans to progress further up the league pyramid system. The club is run by an experienced management team and enjoys the support of some very prestigious commercial partners. Ashby Ivanhoe had one of their most successful seasons in 2010/2011 as they completed a league and cup double by winning the Leicestershire Senior League by nine points and also lifted the Coalville Charity Cup for the very first time after producing a superb second half comeback to beat Bardon Hill 3-2 in the final. They have also reached successive Leicestershire Senior Cup finals in 2011/2012 and 2012/2013 but had to settle for runners-up on both occasions losing 3-1, firstly to Ibstock United and then Aylestone Park. The 2013/2014 season saw the first team achieve a long-term ambition as they won promotion into the Step 6 East Midlands Counties League for the 2014/2015 season after finishing third place in the Leicestershire Senior League. It was a close title race with the top three all finishing level on points with Ashby third on goal difference. The Reserves were also promoted to the Leicestershire Senior League Division One. 2014/2015 saw Ashby compete at Step 6 of the non-league pyramid for the first time and they had a very good season and secured a top six finish in the East Midlands Counties League which featured victories against all of the sides above them. The Reserve side were involved in a tight title race and it went down to a last day decider against Lutterworth Athletic Reserves but despite the result going against them on the day they were still promoted for the second season in succession and would play at Step 7 in the Leicestershire Senior League Premier Division for 2015/2016.

ASHBY IVANHOE FC CLUB HISTORY 2015/2016 saw Ashby have another fine season and they mounted a strong title challenge and they led the East Midlands Counties League for the majority of the season before finally finishing in third place. That saw them assured of a first ever appearance in the FA Cup for the 2016/2017 season. Last season was the most memorable in the history of Ashby Ivanhoe Football Club. For the very first time in the clubs history they were accepted to play in the most famous club competition in the world, The FA Cup. It turned into a thrilling journey with higher ranked opponents of Quorn and Loughborough Dynamo knocked out before Ashby fell to Ilkeston in the 1st Qualifying Round. Prior to the Ilkeston defeat Ashby received a visit from the FA Cup which was paraded through the town centre visiting local sponsors before players and spectators had the opportunity to view the cup at the NFU Sports Ground. The league season was inconsistent with a strong finish to the season seeing the team finish in tenth place. The season did end with a first appearance in the final of the Jenkins & Jenkins League Cup but Dunkirk overturned a one goal deficit late on to see Ashby end as runners-up. The new season sees a new management team at the helm of the club with Glyn Andrews and Craig Picknell joining the club from Friar Lane & Epworth with the aim of achieving promotion to Step 5.
