CHAIRMAN'S WELCOME Good afternoon and welcome to the NFU Sports Ground for todays game against our visitors, Selston FC and my I extend a warm welcome to the players, officials and supporters from Selston FC and hope that we all enjoy a good game. Today’s game pitches us against the league challengers and based on the last few results we should be confident, as a team, that we can compete and come through these types of games and I know that Andy and his team will set the team up accordingly. The last win against Eastwood Community FC witnessed again how much we are progressing and credit to the players for their tenacity in that game and work rate to run out winners on the day. There was one example after the match that I did not agree with from the opposition and that was the need to disperse player payments to their players in the clubhouse and I find that quite disappointing to say the least. As many of you will know my views on player payments at this level and whilst I have no interest in what other clubs do or don’t do, I do question why they actually do it and in particular the arena they wish to flaunt it. The harsh reality of football is that player payments exist but at what cost to the club? For many years I have remained consistent that players should be rewarded for effort and not merely just turning up to be paid. This example was no more clearer at the last game when we performed well, won the game and would, arguably, deserved to be rewarded. This will remain my view and it works well for both the player, the club and supporters as it becomes manageable and sustainable by having a performance related bonus scheme and not one that merely pays players to turn up. This process would also be aligned with players that, as a club, we wanted to promote higher and as such be protected by the club in a fashion associated with contracted players. It may not be the view of everyone, but it is my view that clubs need to assess how sustainable they really are, if one day the money dries up? Last week there was another example of a long standing, local football club reporting they could not continue due to not being financially sustainable and I can only ask “was this down to having to pay players to play for the club?”. If a club decides to pay players then it should also decide who is in control of that, the players, the manager or the club? I am afraid there are many more examples of clubs paying beyond their means and you need to just look around and see what that ultimately does to a club. I am a believer that the time will come when we will have an effective programme supporting the needs of the manager and players to move us forward as a club but that will also be at a time that the club agrees the platform on which it can sustainably introduce this and never put itself into a “boom to bust” position. May I extend my thanks to Steven Guest, who has decided to step away from the club as a Coach this week and I would like to thank Steven for his contribution, time and effort before Andy joined us and following his arrival and I wish him well with wherever he moves to next. The club has had a really busy week too with Cheltenham Races on in the clubhouse and my thanks go to Ben Goodman for his time running the bar and to everyone who came into to watch the races and support the club with bar sales, it really is appreciated and whilst there were some winners and losers, they all looked like they had a great time. Let’s hope that Andy and the players come out winners today. Enjoy the game and thank you for your support. Regards Stuart Bonser Club Chairman

FIRST TEAM UPDATE Hello all.

It's now two weeks since our last game. We had a blank weekend last Saturday and a postponement on Tuesday.

The weather has hampered our preparations in training too but today we look forward to our next challenge which 'pits' us against the current league leaders, Selston.

This gives us another chance to continue to assess our progression.

In our last game we had a well earned victory against another side high up in the league standings. The 2-0 victory at home to Eastwoods was well deserved.

The three clean sheets in our five league games has been pleasing but we looked more expansive offensively in that game, which highlights the growing confidence throughout the squad.

We hope to continue to improve and look forward to your support as we face todays challenge.

My assistants Rich, Pete and myself hope you enjoy your afternoon.

IN OPPOSITION TODAY Selston FC The club was formed in 1968 and played its early football in the Alfreton & District Sunday League, of which they were a founding member. They continued in the league for around eight seasons whilst establishing themselves. For the 1977/78 Season, their attention turned to the Nottinghamshire Sunday Football League in which they finished runners-up in Division Three of the Premier section in their first season under the management of Graham (Dart) D’Arcy. A period of time was spent in the different local leagues, but in the late 80's with the ambition to progress, the club decided to concentrate on Saturday football and joined the Central Midlands Football League. In the 1990-91 season the first team won the C.M.L Division One Cup. In the meantime, the club had taken on board their first junior sides, operating initially in the Rowsley & District Youth League and shortly afterwards in the Derby City Youth League, Mansfield Youth League and in the late 90's the Notts Imperial Youth League. Junior football has really taken off in recent years, growing from four junior teams in 2008 to nine for the 2016/17 season, with many honours won along the way. The club had a period without senior football and concentrated on the junior section. In 2006 the decision was made to start a men’s team again, a side was entered into the Midland Regional Alliance for the 06/07 season. This team had notable success winning Division 2 in 2007/08 by a margin of 14 points and scoring 175 goals. They also won the MRA Junior Cup that year, beating Division 1 side Willington 8-2 in the final and also lifted the Notts Junior Cup, beating The Three Crowns 3-1 in extra time. A reserve side was started in 2009/10 in the MRA Division Two and despite attempting to keep a pathway open to the first team for junior players, the reserves team proved difficult to keep going. However, they did have some success, winning the Notts Junior Cup in 2011/12 as the first team had done a few seasons earlier. In 2011/12 the first team joined the Notts Senior League, finishing mid table in the first two seasons and doing reasonably well in cup competitions. The 2013/14 season saw the first team crowned champions of the NSL, during this season the team also defeated two teams from higher leagues in the Notts Senior Cup, Radford FC and AFC Mansfield. In the 2015/16 season the men’s team re-joined the Central Midlands League after an absence of around 15 years. In the first season back in the league they took the South division by storm, a mid season streak of 15 successive league wins helping them to the title. The Parishioners eventually finished top, 10 points clear of their nearest rivals to take the league trophy at the first attempt. In the 2016/17 season the men’s first team won the Central Midlands League South again, an unprecedented feat in the new CMFL North/South set up and they also bagged the Buckingham Insurance League Cup. The club won a number of awards off the field, too: FA Charter Standard Club of the Year for Nottinghamshire, FA Charter Standard Club of the Year for East of England Region and Secretary of the year for the Central Midlands league. The men’s reserve team finished 3rd in the Notts Senior League Division Two and were promoted to Division One. The club will operate 10 junior teams and 3 men’s teams in 2018/19 Excellent work by the committee, management team and players was undertaken to ensure the ground received an ‘H’ grade ready for promotion to Step 6 football for the first time. A new stand, floodlights, railings and pathways were all installed, built or renovated ready for the March 31st deadline. The first season at Step 6 proved a reasonable one with the team in the hunt for the title until very late on in the season, a finishing spot of fourth and ‘only’ 8 points off the winners was a creditable effort. Work continued off the field with the ground achieving ‘G’ status with the addition of a new toilet block and remodelling of the pavilion to open up the tea bar area. The first team look forward to their second season in the EMCL and the Reserves continue in the NSL first division.

ASHBY KNIGHTS UPDATE Once again I would like to wish Andy and the lads all the best for today’s game.

No game for the Knights this weekend due to us playing our game in hand last weekend.

Moving onto last weekend we knew that if we managed to win our game in hand which was a tough game against a very young Anstey Nomads side and with Wymeswold not having a game then we would go one point behind them with the same games played. The lads did just that with a 3-2 victory.

The lads went out and did their jobs correctly and we managed to gain a 3-1 lead at half time and it was down to game management in the second half to make sure that we ended the game with all 3 points.

With us not having a game this weekend it gives the lads a much needed rest. We are now in with a good chance of pushing for the league but we just need to keep working hard and take one game at a time and see where we end up.

We hope you can support the lads the next time we are down the NFU.

Many Thanks.

THE OPPOSITION STAPENHILL They were formed in 1947 and ten years after formation they joined the Leicestershire Senior League Division Two and found immediate success, gaining promotion in their debut season and winning the Division One championship in the following two seasons. They remained in that division, apart from a single season (1971/1972) in Division Two, winning the top flight, now renamed the Premier Division, twice more – 1986/1987 and 1988/1989. They then joined the Midland Combination Premier Division, staying there for five seasons until they became a founding member of the Midland Alliance where they remained until resigning from the league in January 2002. Later that year they joined the Leicestershire Senior League and were promoted as runners-up into the Premier Division. In the 2007/2008 season, they were members of the Midland Football Alliance, but after a fire ravaged their home stadium the club was forced to close down. The club reformed in 2009 and rejoined the Leicestershire Senior League and gained promotion to the EMCL in the 2012/2013 season. ASHBY IVANHOE FC CLUB HISTORY

19 4 8 - 2 01 8

70 YE AR S

The club currently consists of three adult teams and a youth team. The first team play in the East Midlands Counties League, with the Reserves in the Leicestershire Senior League Premier Division. In the 2008/2009 season the club formed a Youth Team (Under 18’s) side who play in the Leicestershire Midweek Floodlit Youth League on Wednesday nights. A Sunday team was re-introduced for this season and they play in the Burton Sunday League Division Four. The club also has a large number of junior sides ranging from Under 7’s through to Under 18’s who play in the Burton Junior Football League, Tamworth Junior Football League and the Derby City League. The junior section came after the club merged with the David Hunt Soccer School at the beginning of the 2009/2010 season. In February 2004, Ashby Ivanhoe became an FA Charter Standard football club. The club is very ambitious and has plans to progress further up the league pyramid system. The club is run by an experienced management team and enjoys the support of some very prestigious commercial partners. Ashby Ivanhoe had one of their most successful seasons in 2010/2011 as they completed a league and cup double by winning the Leicestershire Senior League by nine points and also lifted the Coalville Charity Cup for the very first time after producing a superb second half comeback to beat Bardon Hill 3-2 in the final. They have also reached successive Leicestershire Senior Cup finals in 2011/2012 and 2012/2013 but had to settle for runners-up on both occasions losing 3-1, firstly to Ibstock United and then Aylestone Park. The 2013/2014 season saw the first team achieve a long-term ambition as they won promotion into the Step 6 East Midlands Counties League for the 2014/2015 season after finishing third place in the Leicestershire Senior League. It was a close title race with the top three all finishing level on points with Ashby third on goal difference. The Reserves were also promoted to the Leicestershire Senior League Division One. 2014/2015 saw Ashby compete at Step 6 of the non-league pyramid for the first time and they had a very good season and secured a top six finish in the East Midlands Counties League which featured victories against all of the sides above them. The Reserve side were involved in a tight title race and it went down to a last day decider against Lutterworth Athletic Reserves but despite the result going against them on the day they were still promoted for the second season in succession and would play at Step 7 in the Leicestershire Senior League Premier Division for 2015/2016.

ASHBY IVANHOE FC CLUB HISTORY 2015/2016 saw Ashby have another fine season and they mounted a strong title challenge and they led the East Midlands Counties League for the majority of the season before finally finishing in third place. That saw them assured of a first ever appearance in the FA Cup for the 2016/2017 season. Last season was the most memorable in the history of Ashby Ivanhoe Football Club. For the very first time in the clubs history they were accepted to play in the most famous club competition in the world, The FA Cup. It turned into a thrilling journey with higher ranked opponents of Quorn and Loughborough Dynamo knocked out before Ashby fell to Ilkeston in the 1st Qualifying Round. Prior to the Ilkeston defeat Ashby received a visit from the FA Cup which was paraded through the town centre visiting local sponsors before players and spectators had the opportunity to view the cup at the NFU Sports Ground. The league season was inconsistent with a strong finish to the season seeing the team finish in tenth place. The season did end with a first appearance in the final of the Jenkins & Jenkins League Cup but Dunkirk overturned a one goal deficit late on to see Ashby end as runners-up.
