STUART BONSER
CHAIRMAN'S WELCOME
G
ood afternoon and welcome to the NFU Sports Ground for today’s game against Cradley Town FC and may I extend a warm welcome to the players, officials and supporters of Cradley Town and hope we all enjoy a good game. The turnout for our home game against Stapenhill was befitting for the occasion to pay our respects to Eric Avins and great to see so many who came which acknowledged how well thought of Eric was in the Community and the football world. It was also pleasing to see Robbie Avins come along for he game and as the president said during his speech before the game, we are all here for you Robbie. The funeral arrangements are confirmed for this Tuesday at Bretby Crematorium - 10.30am and I am sure the turnout will again demonstrate how well Eric was liked amongst his family and friends. It was pleasing to progress in the FA vase last Saturday against a higher opposition and the next round sees us play host to Romulus next Saturday so please come along and show your support and push the players on to the next round we hope. Last Tuesdays game against Atherstone was one of the best games I think I’ve seen is play of late and against a really good opposition who are top of the table. This is testament to Andy and his staff for the way our players performed and credit to all the players for the performance they gave and let’s hope that they take great confidence that they can perform like that and take it into each game.
Our junior and youth teams started their league campaigns last weekend and this followed the start of our first ever girls teams the weekend before. All in all we have added 8 new teams to the growing number of teams at the club and it’s a pleasure to see so many players now wearing the badge and the most teams we have had since coming down to the NFU, a significant achievement and my thanks goes to all the coaches for their continued support for the teams. All that remains is to wish the players well today and hope you all enjoy the game. Ps – if you are visiting the ground by car please DO NOT OBSTRUCT the junction to Cambrian Way by parking on the grass/path verge as this is both dangerous and you could get a fixed penalty notice from the Council and or Police.

ANDY GRAY
FIRST TEAM UPDATE Afternoon to you all. It's been a while since my last notes. Since then we have and won twice, drawn and lost. The 8-1 victory over Khalsa was, as the scoreline suggests, a very comfortable day. The opposition were second best from the off and never got into the game. Credit to us for overpowering them. In previous seasons the result would have been closer. Now we are more ruthless and we played at a very high level for 90 minutes. The defeat to our local rivals Stapenhill was disappointing. It was a close game and I thought a draw would have been a fairer result. The 1-2 defeat was a result of our performance though.
The game was a credit to non league football.
We unfortunately became involved in the occasion and went away from our ethics and patterns of play.
Not many teams will go to the league leaders and come away with anything so the point was pleasing.
That was the most disappointing part of the day.
At this point I’d like to update you on my backroom staff as we've recently had a few additions.
We then travelled to Haughmond in the FA Vase. The 2-3 victory was well deserved and the late concession of two goals flattered our opponents somewhat. To progress in the Vase is always good for all at the club and to beat an opposition from a league above is always nice. As importantly the performance was much improved and we played some flowing football which please the coaches and myself. On Tuesday we made the short trip to Atherstone.
It was a very high tempo, high quality game and overall, what we all expect game in game out as we move forward.
Assistant manager: Pete Dunn Head Coach: Chris Wood Coach: Shaun Hession Goalkeeper Coach: Rob Lawrance Physio: Elise Watts Matchday Coordinator: Lee Barratt Matchday Assistant: Liam Rawden There are of course many others who make things happen and I’d personally like to thank all of them for their invaluable help with all that we do. Finally, enjoy the game and as always we'll try to entertain you all.

VS CRADLEY TOWN - SATURDAY 18TH SEPTEMBER 2021 - WWW.ASHBYIVANHOEFC.CO.UK
IN OPPOSITION TODAY
CRADLEY TOWN
Cradley Town was formed as a result of a merger between Albion Rovers and Haden Rangers in 1970. These two clubs had a history dating back to 1944. Albion Rovers had put in some hard work at the private Beeches View Ground in Cradley near Halesowen and this, combined with Rangers ability to attract quality players, provided the platform for immediate success. The original name was Albion Haden United, but this was soon changed to the more explicit Cradley Town. The first Season 1970/71 saw the Club win the Premier Division of the Metropolitan League, with Bobby Beasley and Jim Nugent scoring 85 goals between them. This early success saw the Club elected to the Midland Combination in 1971 and they stayed there for twelve seasons winning the Division Two title in 1972/73 and finishing as runners up in 1975/76 and 1977/78. They also won the Presidents Cup two seasons running in 1974/75 and 1975/76. The Club was frustrated in their attempts to get into the Premier Division because their pitch was too narrow. Much time and effort went into widening the pitch and in inserting drainage. A licensed bar followed and a small stand erected, enabling the Club to take its place in the Midland Combination Premier Division in 1980. In 1983 they moved across to the West Midlands (Regional) League Premier Division where they finished bottom in their first season and were relegated. They spent the next seven seasons in Division One before they won the championship in 1990/91 and, with the erection of floodlights in the same season, they were promoted to the Premier Division. Despite the return to the Premier Division, it seemed the Club might fold when the owners quit mid way through the season 1991/92, but a share of the transfer fee for John Williams (the Football League
sprint champion) made the Club solvent again. Their largest win to date was in 1990 when, in their championship winning season, they thrashed Wolverhampton United 9-1 at Beeches View Avenue. Their largest defeat was an 11-0 trouncing at Boldmere St. Michaels in 2007/8. Cradley have had a number of players who have progressed to the Football League including the tragic Alan Nicholls (Plymouth Argyle). John Williams [the flying postman], Jon Ford, Andy McFarlane (all Swansea City) and Duane Darby (Torquay United). The Hammers enjoyed nationwide media attention when the then Chairman and Under 16s manager Kevin Cullis sensationally sold the Club in 1996 to take over as manager at Swansea City for a short spell. Kevin’s reign at Swansea lasted just seven days. Current Chairman Trevor Thomas then took over the running of the The Hammers and in 1998/99 decided to manage the first team as well. Cradley subsequently enjoyed its best ever season, gaining promotion from the West Midlands (Regional) League to the Midland Football Alliance and reaching the final of the Banks' League Cup. The Hammers spent eleven hard years in the Midland Football Alliance, their best season being in 2000/1 when they finished twelfth. Cradley were eventually relegated after the 2009/10 season. Back in the West Midlands (Regional) League Premier Division for nine seasons now Cradley have enjoyed reasonable success having finished eighth on four occasions. The highlight by far was winning the Premier Division League Cup in 2014-15 after a penalty shoot out against Wellington FC. After two Covid curtailed seasons the 2021-22 season has seen a lateral move for Cradley and many other former WMRL clubs to the Midland Football League and, despite player/manager Sean Geddes resigning early on, they hope to do well in this new sphere.

Atherstone vs Ashby Ivanhoe
MATCH REPORT
FT: Atherstone 1-1 AIFC Another superb advert for non league football tonight, we’ll be disappointed to concede late on but in the end it’s probably a fair result and a good point on the board.
The deadlock was broken on the 70th minute as the host’s Carsley handled it in the box and Sam Grouse stepped up to convert calmly from the spot.
The game started frantic and an early chance fell for Atherstone as a cross come shot effort clipped the top of the bar.
Williamson had to make another great save from a long distance shot which was moving all over the place.
Our first chance came as we played some great one-two football on the edge of the Atherstone box, Sam Grouse pulled the trigger but he had his shot well saved.
With 5 to go we had a fantastic chance to go 2-0 up as Grouse and Robson exchanged in the box and Robson found himself 1-on-1, credit to the Atherstone keeper though as he came flying out to make a cracking stop.
Williamson in the ashby goal then made a quality save from a Atherstone shot from distance. Ivanhoe had to ride 10 minutes worth of pressure mid-half, and then we hit back with 2 chances in quick succession. The first came as Liam Donaghy let one fly from outside the box which forced the Atherstone keeper to tip over the bar. Soon after Grouse’s shot was then tipped round the post! HT: Atherstone 0-0 AIFC The 2nd half started as the 1st ended with both teams going toe to toe.
3 minutes from time it was 1-1 as Jamie Hoodie looped his header into the far corner of the goal. Atherstone then turned up the pressure but Ivanhoe remained solid as we had all night and saw it out to take a point. We can come away with the comfort that not many sides will go there this season and leave with a point and other than Stapenhill we’re the only team to take points off them so far this season! Well done boys!

ASHBY IVANHOE
CLUB HISTORY
A
shby Ivanhoe Football Club was founded in 1948 and play their home matches at the NFU Sports Ground, Lower Packington Road, Ashby de la Zouch in Leicestershire. This is the clubs new home from the beginning of the 2012/2013 season. Since being founded in 1948 up until the end of the 2011/2012 season the clubs previous home was at Hood Park also in Ashby de la Zouch. The club currently consists of Two adult teams and Twelve sides in the Junior section. The first team play in the Midland Football League Division One, with the Knights in the Leicestershire Senior League Premier Division. In the 2008/2009 season the club formed a Youth Team (Under 18’s) side who play in the Leicestershire Midweek Floodlit Youth League on Wednesday nights. A Sunday team was reintroduced for this season and they play in the Burton Sunday League Division Four. The club’s junior sides ranging from Under 7’s through to Under 18’s play in the Burton Junior Football League and the Tamworth Junior Football Leagues. The junior section came after the club merged with the David Hunt Soccer School at the beginning of the 2009/2010 season. In February 2004, Ashby Ivanhoe became an FA Charter Standard football club. The club is very ambitious and has plans to progress further up the league pyramid system. The club is run by an experienced management team and enjoys the support of some very prestigious commercial partners. Ashby Ivanhoe had one of their most successful seasons in 2010/11 as they completed a league and cup double by winning the Leicestershire Senior League by nine points and also lifted the Coalville Charity Cup for the very first time after producing a superb second half comeback to beat Bardon Hill 3-2 in the final. They have
also reached successive Leicestershire Senior Cup finals in 2011/2012 and 2012/2013 but had to settle for runners-up on both occasions losing 3-1, firstly to Ibstock United and then Aylestone Park. The 2013/2014 season saw the first team achieve a long-term ambition as they won promotion into the Step 6 of the Pyramid system playing in the East Midlands Counties League for the 2014/2015 season after finishing third place in the Leicestershire Senior League. It was a close title race with the top three all finishing level on points with Ashby third on goal difference. The Reserves were also promoted to the Leicestershire Senior League Division One. 2014/2015 saw Ashby compete at Step 6 for the first time and they had a very good season and secured a top six finish in the East Midlands Counties League which featured victories against all of the sides above them. The Reserve side were involved in a tight title race and it went down to a last day decider against Lutterworth Athletic Reserves but despite the result going against them on the day they were still promoted for the second season in succession and will play at Step 7 in the Leicestershire Senior League Premier Division for 2015/2016. 2015/2016 saw Ashby have another fine season and they mounted a strong title challenge and they led the East Midlands Counties League for the majority of the season before finally finishing in third place. That saw them assured of a first ever appearance in the FA Cup for the 2016/2017 season where the aim again will be to push for promotion to Step 5. The 2016-17 season was the most memorable in the history of Ashby Ivanhoe Football Club. For the very first time in the clubs history they were accepted to play in the most famous club competition in the world, The FA Cup. It turned into a thrilling journey with higher

CLUB HISTORY ranked opponents of Quorn and Loughborough Dynamo knocked out before Ashby fell to Ilkeston in the 1st Qualifying Round. Prior to the Ilkeston defeat Ashby received a visit from the FA Cup which was paraded through the town centre visiting local sponsors before players and spectators had the opportunity to view the cup at the NFU Sports Ground. The league season was inconsistent with a strong finish to the season seeing the team finish in tenth place. The season did end with a first appearance in the final of the Jenkins & Jenkins League Cup but Dunkirk overturned a one goal deficit late on to see Ashby end as runners-up. The 2017-18 season saw the 1st team finish Seventeenth in the East midland Counties and the Reserves finished in the bottom Two and relegation to Division One. 2018-19 saw the 1st team finish in the bottom half of the East Midlands Counties Football League and The Reserves now called the Knights finish runners up in the Senior League Division One and promoted back to step 7 in the Senior League Premier Division. In the 2019-20 season Ashby first team faced a fresh challenge when they were moved to the Midland Premier League Division one by the FA in a shake up of the NLS, the season as we all know was expunged due to the pandemic. The
Reserves league also had all results expunged. As a club we are now looking to but our ground and have since the end of the previous season become a CIC club.
