CHAIRMANS WELCOME Good afternoon and welcome to today’s match against our visitors Radford FC and may I extend a warm welcome to the players, officials and spectators of Radford FC and hope that we all enjoy a good match. As you will see the front cover of todays programme has a picture of Marc Sargeants new Baby Daughter and congratulations to Marc, his wife and family on her safe arrival and we wish them all well from everyone involved at the club. The games will start to come thick and fast now as we head towards the final weeks of the season and like most clubs, we have a lot of catching up to do before the end and thankfully the weather has been kind over the last week. The challenge for the squads will be availability over the coming weeks and whether we have too many players playing too many games which may be the case as there are a large number of players now playing for the Under 18’s and also featuring in the Senior squads which can mean they are playing 3 or 4 games a week. I guess this is a downside to how we operate the club and push youth players forward into the senior section but I am sure that they will maintain their commitment and if they are anything like I was, I just enjoyed playing football. Last night saw the launch of our FA Licensed Wildcats Centre for Girls Football. The club will be running weekly sessions on Fridays 5pm – 6pm for girls aged 4+ so if you know of anyone that has a daughter interested in football please spread the word and the details are in this programme. The club will also be taking part in the Girls Football Week which starts on Monday and this again gives girls the opportunity to take part in football and receive excellent coaching and awards. On Monday we host the Schools County Girls finals at the ground and this will be supported with taster sessions for the Wildcats along with a visit from Birmingham City FC and England Player, Rachel Williams, who will presenting some awards and doing a Q and A session so please feel free to pop down on Monday, events start from 4pm. There have been a few date changes too which involve the presentation evenings. The Senior presentation evening has been moved to the 12th May and the Juniors will be Saturday 2nd June. More details to follow. A big thank you to all the Club volunteers that have stepped up this week to prepare and staff the games we have held at the ground. It is a real commitment to give up 4 nights of your time and I really appreciate everyone’s help and time they give. All that remains is to wish the team well today and hope that we all enjoy a good afternoon of football. Stuart Bonser Club Chairman Ps – if you are visiting the ground by car please DO NOT OBSTRUCT the junction to Cambrian Way by parking on the grass/path verge as this is both dangerous and you could get a fixed penalty notice from the Council and or Police.

THE PRESIDENTS VIEW Good afternoon and welcome to The NFU, and as I write, well praise be, the sun is out, let’s hope it stays out for a month and we can play the ridiculous amount of games we have remaining. This period of weather has been truly horrific and given players, managers, volunteers & you the supporters no continuity of a run of games to enjoy, it’s been very frustrating for us all but let’s hope that’s the end of the grim weather and we can get on with the football. Big welcome to the guys from Radford, we always enjoy our visits to their ground, as I imagine does their bank manager, so have an enjoyable afternoon at The NFU guys. Since I wrote last we have been working towards getting the floodlighting onto the grid (Emmo tells me that’s the phrase to be used) and Jon Emmerson has done a terrific job in getting this over the line with the usual suspects volunteering for digging holes and then filling them back in again. Disappointing news was that we had a recent break in, and some scumbags pinched some spirits and crisps from behind the bar (really?) more annoyingly they also pinched, sorry stole, all our sets of keys and Ian Irving had to spend his Easter Saturday overseeing the changing of locks and securing the ground, lovely, thanks very much but well done to Ian for his dedication to the Ivanhoe cause, once again above & beyond. Some people do their level best to derail what we are trying to achieve here at this community football club but there are many good people involved with Ashby Ivanhoe and we will continue to move the club forward to benefit football for the town. As the sun is hopefully here to stay for a few months we have a new badge to celebrate 70 years of the club’s existence, it looks great on the wide range of Ivanhoe wear available from Liss Sports & I always smile when I see the Ivanhoe badge around the town. Enjoy the game Dave Morris Club President

IN OPPOSITION TODAY RADFORD The club was founded in 1964 as Manlove & Alliots FC. The club played in the Nottinghamshire Sunday league. Manlove & Alliots were an Engineering firm situated in Radford. After the firm transferred to Scotland in 1970/71, the club carried on under the name of Radford Olympic FC. In 1977 Radford Olympic became the first amateur side in Britain to be allowed to wear advertising on their shirts and the BBC Television cameras came along to Melbourne Park and filmed one of our matches and interviewed officials for the evening programme "Nationwide". In 1978 the club formed a ground development committee and decided to seek out a piece of land preferably in the Radford area for development of our own ground. Radford Olympic transferred to Saturday Football in 1979-80 joining the Central Alliance. The following season the club joined the East Midlands Regional League. Olympic moved into the Selhurst Street ground for season 1981-82. In season 1982/83 Olympic finished Champions of Division One of the East Midlands Regional League. In 1983/84 a move to the Central Midlands League saw them win the Central Midlands League Senior Cup. In 1987 Radford Olympic were renamed Radford FC. At the end of 2002/03 Radford were promoted to the Supreme Division of the Central Midlands League and in their first season in the top flight finished 11th. After holding their own during seasons 2003/04 & 2004/05 in the top division of the Central Midlands League, the club delivered silverware in season 2005/06 under the guidance of Julian Garmston and assistant Pete Kelley, winning the CML Phoenix Trophies floodlight Cup. New floodlighting and 1st phase ground improvements were actioned that season with Notts County providing a team to officially turn on the lights. Radford FC joined the East Midlands Counties League in 2008 and finished 14th in their first season. The club qualified to play in the FA Cup for the first time in 2009-10 but went out 0-1 in the Extra Preliminary Round to Rainworth MW. The club achieved a finishing position of third in 2014-15 under manager Glenn Russell, after putting together an unbeaten run of 19 league games. Radford improved on their third spot by becoming EMCL runners up in 2015-16.

ASHBY IVANHOE FC CLUB HISTORY

19 4 8 - 2 01 8

70 YE AR S

The club currently consists of three adult teams and a youth team. The first team play in the East Midlands Counties League, with the Reserves in the Leicestershire Senior League Premier Division. In the 2008/2009 season the club formed a Youth Team (Under 18’s) side who play in the Leicestershire Midweek Floodlit Youth League on Wednesday nights. A Sunday team was re-introduced for this season and they play in the Burton Sunday League Division Four. The club also has a large number of junior sides ranging from Under 7’s through to Under 18’s who play in the Burton Junior Football League, Tamworth Junior Football League and the Derby City League. The junior section came after the club merged with the David Hunt Soccer School at the beginning of the 2009/2010 season. In February 2004, Ashby Ivanhoe became an FA Charter Standard football club. The club is very ambitious and has plans to progress further up the league pyramid system. The club is run by an experienced management team and enjoys the support of some very prestigious commercial partners. Ashby Ivanhoe had one of their most successful seasons in 2010/2011 as they completed a league and cup double by winning the Leicestershire Senior League by nine points and also lifted the Coalville Charity Cup for the very first time after producing a superb second half comeback to beat Bardon Hill 3-2 in the final. They have also reached successive Leicestershire Senior Cup finals in 2011/2012 and 2012/2013 but had to settle for runners-up on both occasions losing 3-1, firstly to Ibstock United and then Aylestone Park. The 2013/2014 season saw the first team achieve a long-term ambition as they won promotion into the Step 6 East Midlands Counties League for the 2014/2015 season after finishing third place in the Leicestershire Senior League. It was a close title race with the top three all finishing level on points with Ashby third on goal difference. The Reserves were also promoted to the Leicestershire Senior League Division One. 2014/2015 saw Ashby compete at Step 6 of the non-league pyramid for the first time and they had a very good season and secured a top six finish in the East Midlands Counties League which featured victories against all of the sides above them. The Reserve side were involved in a tight title race and it went down to a last day decider against Lutterworth Athletic Reserves but despite the result going against them on the day they were still promoted for the second season in succession and would play at Step 7 in the Leicestershire Senior League Premier Division for 2015/2016.

ASHBY IVANHOE FC CLUB HISTORY 2015/2016 saw Ashby have another fine season and they mounted a strong title challenge and they led the East Midlands Counties League for the majority of the season before finally finishing in third place. That saw them assured of a first ever appearance in the FA Cup for the 2016/2017 season. Last season was the most memorable in the history of Ashby Ivanhoe Football Club. For the very first time in the clubs history they were accepted to play in the most famous club competition in the world, The FA Cup. It turned into a thrilling journey with higher ranked opponents of Quorn and Loughborough Dynamo knocked out before Ashby fell to Ilkeston in the 1st Qualifying Round. Prior to the Ilkeston defeat Ashby received a visit from the FA Cup which was paraded through the town centre visiting local sponsors before players and spectators had the opportunity to view the cup at the NFU Sports Ground. The league season was inconsistent with a strong finish to the season seeing the team finish in tenth place. The season did end with a first appearance in the final of the Jenkins & Jenkins League Cup but Dunkirk overturned a one goal deficit late on to see Ashby end as runners-up. The new season sees a new management team at the helm of the club with Glyn Andrews and Craig Picknell joining the club from Friar Lane & Epworth with the aim of achieving promotion to Step 5.
