CHAIRMANS WELCOME Good afternoon and welcome to today’s East Midlands Counties game against our visitors, Clipstone FC and may I extend a very warm welcome to the players, officials and spectators of Clipstone FC, who visit us for the first time as one of the new teams in the league and hope you enjoy our hospitality and the game.
Last weeks exit from the FA VASE was a disappointment for everyone concerned I am sure and it was one of those games that we will reflect upon and say we should have won over the 90 minutes. That said, Bewdley were a good outfit and we matched them during the game but with the fine margins that are in football we simply didn’t finish the chances we had in open play.
The team then visited Borrowash in the week and this could have been a banana skin game but the lads showed they can finish and finish off poor sides too with a 6-0 win.
Todays game will give the players the chance to start to focus on their league performance and gain some consistency as a team before they play in the cup again on Tuesday night at home against Thurnby Rangers.
As you will notice the club has invested in some new patio doors and window to the bar side of the clubhouse and I must say they have transformed the feel of the building and sure you will agree when you step inside. Our thanks go to Jon Emmerson for co-ordinating the project and to Tom Watson and Richard Bagshaw for installation and brickwork. This means you can now gain access direct to the bar side from the patio if you choose. We have targeted the end of Sept for a refurb of the Bar, Clubhouse and Toilets and will be hosting a launch week during the first week of October where we aim to open the clubhouse to the wider community by showing live football games, racing and sport as well as a taster food service for the junior players at the club on their training nights. In addition to the refurb of the clubhouse we have plans to complete the portacabin to the entrance into our new catering unit along with small club shop. The purpose behind this is 2 fold, to give supporters, players, parents an improved experience on matchdays and training nights and to widen the exposure of the facility to the greater community who may wish to use the club for private events, meetings etc and we now feel we will have a facility that can attract increased usage from more people. Therefore, if you have a special event coming up or would like to use the clubroom for a social gathering then feel free to ask one of the management team who will provide you with further details.
All that remains is to wish the team good luck for today’s match and hope we are all in for an entertaining afternoon of football. Stuart Bonser Club Chairman

FIRST TEAM UPDATE Hello and welcome to the NFU, home of Ashby Ivanhoe FC. We come into this game on the back of a confidence boosting 6-0 win against Borrowash and I am hoping we can get another 3 points on the board despite facing an in form Clipstone FC team. The mid-week result goes some way to helping us forget the bitter disappointment in losing to Bewdley Town. I thought we were the better side on the day but in football you need to take your chances. That a something, before Tuesday, we haven’t been doing well. Hopefully the confidence gained from Tuesday will see us score more goals. We still have plenty to work on and we are basically a new team in comparison to last year. As I have said before, we are a better side with better quality players and the challenge is now finding the right system to get the best out of this talented group of players. What we know is that on our day, when we are in form, we can beat anyone. The squad continues to be used to its full capacity today with several noticeable absences but those stepping in have done well and deserve to keep their places in this side. As always, if we play to our best I have no doubt the result will see us win the game. As with all our games, it is our intention to go out with attacking intent. Enjoy the game, keep the faith and please be vocal in your support. Craig Picknell 1st Team Manager FIRST TEAM UPDATE SPONSORED BY

IN OPPOSITION TODAY Clipstone Clipstone FC was established in 1928 as Clipstone Combine using a ground off Mansfield Road and playing in the Colliery Alliance League. They were then re-named Clipstone Boys Brigade, and moved to a ground at Baulker Lane, before becoming Clipstone Welfare in 1955. In 1955/56 they won the treble of Spartan League Champions, League Cup Winners and Notts County F.A. Intermediate Cup winners and promotion to Notts Alliance League. With promotion they left their ground at Baulker Lane and moved to a new ground which has remained their home to the present day - the Lido Ground. Clipstone had great success throughout the 1970s, but particularly the early 70’s. They claimed their league’s top spot three times in a row in 1972/73, 1973/74 and 1974/75. They also went onto win the Notts Alliance Cup in those same seasons. They began entering the FA Vase in 1974, reaching the second round in their first season. The success of the early 1970s ended and the next trophy Clipstone won was a rather famous one - the Nottinghamshire Senior Cup in 1985/86. They again won back-to-back league titles in 1992/93 and 1993/94, before moving up to the Central Midlands League. In 1994/95 they won the league’s Premier Division and after winning it for a second time in 1996/97, were promoted to the Supreme Division. In 2009/10 they won the league’s Floodlit Cup competition. The League was re-organised at the start of the 2011/12 season and Clipstone was placed in the South Division. That season, Clipstone applied to be elevated to the Northern Counties League and got that promotion despite finishing in fourth place. The club dropped the “Welfare” part of it’s name in summer 2013 to become simply Clipstone FC. By this time they were also known by the nickname of “The Cobras”. In May 2013 the club announced a new multi-season sponsorship deal with local painting and decorating contractors Riley & Co (Mansfield) Ltd, with them becoming not only the main club sponsor but home and away shirt sponsors as well for the duration of the sponsorship. At the start of the 2013/14 season Mansfield Town announced that their under 19 and development teams would play their home games at Clipstone’s ground, now known as the “Worksop Van Hire Stadium”. Barry Clarke’s 40 years service at the club was marked with the new hospitality suite being named in his honour. Another loyal club servant deserving a mention is the late Jack Collier who was involved with the football club for 65 years, the last 25 as Chairman until his death. Jack, who worked at Clipstone Colliery, was first involved with the club in their Baulker Lane days. The 2014/15 season saw Chris Millington appointed as First Team Manager. It was a very successful

IN OPPOSITION TODAY season with the team winning the NCEL league One title and gaining promotion to the NCEL Premier Division. The Cobras also competed in the FA Cup for the first time in their history reaching the First Qualifying round where they lost to Grantham Town. They also reached the final of the Nottinghamshire FA Senior Cup for the first time since winning it in 1985/86 but lost 3-5 to Basford United in an entertaining game at Mansfield Town FC. Chris Millington and all but one of the players left in the summer of 2015 and Jas Colliver and Ryan France were appointed as the new management team for the club’s first season in the NCEL Premier Division. They quickly brought a squad of players together and raised a few eyebrows as the team performed well in the league and again reached the FA Cup First Qualifying round where they were unlucky to lose out by the odd goal to Evo-Stik outfit Lincoln United. In early 2016 Ryan stepped down for personal reasons and Jas moved to Sheffield FC. Billy Fox was appointed as the new manager in March 2016 and the club eventually finished mid-table in its first season in the NCEL Premier. They also reached the Nottinghamshire FA Senior Cup final for a second consecutive season but lost to Basford United (again) in a classic cup final in which the Cobras were leading 1-0 until the third minute of injury time. The game finished 2-2 after extra time and Basford won the penalty shootout. Billy resigned in January 2017 and Clipstone-born Ian Cotton was then appointed as manager. As most of the previous players had departed, ‘Cottee’ assembled a squad of mainly local players and after three consecutive victories in March 2017 a respectable 16th place finish was achieved. That form unfortunately didn’t continue into the 2017/8 season and, despite initial progress in the FA Cup and Vase, the Cobras lost their first 23 league games. Ian tendered his resignation in January 2018 and former player Jamie Hardwick was appointed as first team manager. Jamie, an ex-professional with Boston United until injury ended his career, brings very strong credentials as a UEFA A qualified coach and running a successful 16-18 academy at Mansfield Town. Jamie is supported in the role by his backroom staff of Simon Ward (UEFA A coach) and Alan Widdowson (UEFA B coach). The Cobras are also looking to the future and an Under 21 side has now been formed for the 2017/8 season to develop local talent to play at step 5 level.

ASHBY KNIGHTS UPDATE First of all I would like to wish the best of luck to Craig, Marc, Steve and the lads in todays game. It is still very early in the season for the Knights but so far we have played 3 away games and one at home. From the first four games of the season we are still unbeaten with 3 wins and 1 draw which is a fantastic start and we hope that it will continue throughout the season. We have had 4 very tough fixtures but the lads have listened to what me and Andy have asked from them and gone out and done the business on the pitch. Our second game of the season was a trip to play County Hall who at the time had played 3 and won all of them. We took a point away from there but should have been all 3 with some glorious late chances but it was just one of those games. Our next game was yet again away to Birstall United which was one of the highlights of the season so far. We went 1-0 up and were well on top at half time but the second half they started to apply pressure to us but we defended brilliantly and a special mention has to go to our goal keeper Zac Warriner who was fantastic. We ended up winning the game 2-0. Finally our first home game of the season was up against Barrow Town who were level on points with us at the top of the table so we knew how big the game was even if it was only the fourth of the season. We played Barrow in a pre season friendly and they beat us 2-1 after a dodgy penalty decision. Pier to this game we also had a number of players unavailable for this fixture however the lads as they have done so far took onboard the jobs and tactics that myself and Paz asked them to do and we came out on top with a 4-1 victory with Andy Hulley scoring a hat-trick from left back!! (However two of the goals were from the penalty spot and one and one could have gone down as an own goal). The result ended up taking us top of the league on goal difference. Finally I would like to thank everyones support and hopefully see more people down during the season. Many Thanks Robbie Avins Ashby Ivanhoe Knights Manager

THE OPPOSITION STAPENHILL They were formed in 1947 and ten years after formation they joined the Leicestershire Senior League Division Two and found immediate success, gaining promotion in their debut season and winning the Division One championship in the following two seasons. They remained in that division, apart from a single season (1971/1972) in Division Two, winning the top flight, now renamed the Premier Division, twice more – 1986/1987 and 1988/1989. They then joined the Midland Combination Premier Division, staying there for five seasons until they became a founding member of the Midland Alliance where they remained until resigning from the league in January 2002. Later that year they joined the Leicestershire Senior League and were promoted as runners-up into the Premier Division. In the 2007/2008 season, they were members of the Midland Football Alliance, but after a fire ravaged their home stadium the club was forced to close down. The club reformed in 2009 and rejoined the Leicestershire Senior League and gained promotion to the EMCL in the 2012/2013 season. The club currently consists of three adult teams and a youth team. The first team play in the East Midlands Counties League, with the Reserves in the Leicestershire Senior League Premier Division. In the 2008/2009 season the club formed a Youth Team (Under 18’s) side who play in the Leicestershire Midweek Floodlit Youth League on Wednesday nights. A Sunday team was re-introduced for this season and they play in the Burton Sunday League Division Four. The club also has a large number of junior sides ranging from Under 7’s through to Under 18’s who play in the Burton Junior Football League, Tamworth Junior Football League and the Derby City League. The junior section came after the club merged with the David Hunt Soccer School at the beginning of the 2009/2010 season. In February 2004, Ashby Ivanhoe became an FA Charter Standard football club. The club is very ambitious and has plans to progress further up the league pyramid system. The club is run by an experienced management team and enjoys the support of some very prestigious commercial partners. Ashby Ivanhoe had one of their most successful seasons in 2010/2011 as they completed a league and cup double by winning the Leicestershire Senior League by nine points and also lifted the Coalville Charity Cup for the very first time after producing a superb second half comeback to beat Bardon Hill 3-2 in the final. They have also reached successive Leicestershire Senior Cup finals in 2011/2012 and 2012/2013 but had to settle for runners-up on both occasions losing 3-1, firstly to Ibstock United and then Aylestone Park. The 2013/2014 season saw the first team achieve a long-term ambition as they won promotion into the Step 6 East Midlands Counties League for the 2014/2015 season after finishing third place in the Leicestershire Senior League. It was a close title race with the top three all finishing level on points with Ashby third on goal difference. The Reserves were also promoted to the Leicestershire Senior League Division One. 2014/2015 saw Ashby compete at Step 6 of the non-league pyramid for the first time and they had a very good season and secured a top six finish in the East Midlands Counties League which featured victories against all of the sides above them. The Reserve side were involved in a tight title race and it went down to a last day decider against Lutterworth Athletic Reserves but despite the result going against them on the day they were still promoted for the second season in succession and would play at Step 7 in the Leicestershire Senior League Premier Division for 2015/2016.

ASHBY IVANHOE FC CLUB HISTORY 2015/2016 saw Ashby have another fine season and they mounted a strong title challenge and they led the East Midlands Counties League for the majority of the season before finally finishing in third place. That saw them assured of a first ever appearance in the FA Cup for the 2016/2017 season. Last season was the most memorable in the history of Ashby Ivanhoe Football Club. For the very first time in the clubs history they were accepted to play in the most famous club competition in the world, The FA Cup. It turned into a thrilling journey with higher ranked opponents of Quorn and Loughborough Dynamo knocked out before Ashby fell to Ilkeston in the 1st Qualifying Round. Prior to the Ilkeston defeat Ashby received a visit from the FA Cup which was paraded through the town centre visiting local sponsors before players and spectators had the opportunity to view the cup at the NFU Sports Ground. The league season was inconsistent with a strong finish to the season seeing the team finish in tenth place. The season did end with a first appearance in the final of the Jenkins & Jenkins League Cup but Dunkirk overturned a one goal deficit late on to see Ashby end as runners-up.
