CHAIRMANS WELCOME Good afternoon and welcome to todays match against our visitors Gedling Miners Welfare FC and may I extend a warm welcome to the players, officials and spectators of Gedling Miners Welfare FC and hope that we all enjoy a good match. May I extend a warm welcome to some of our club sponsors who are joining me for one of my many Chairmans Days and these are designed to give thanks to their valued support and for them to enjoy the experience that we are trying to create, here at Ashby Ivanhoe FC and we hope you all enjoy the game. Last weeks trip to Birstall saw another performance which, in my view, warranted a draw at least but sadly we still lacking the few players that can just tip the performances over the line and into a win but I know that the management team are trying their best to attract these players, albeit always a challenge when other teams around us are paying them to play. Last Thursday also saw the club nominated for an award again at the North West Leicestershire Local Alliance Sports Awards and we were shortlisted for the Community Award. This award follows the award we won last year as the Club Of The Year and is testament to the hard work that many of the clubs volunteers put in to help move us forward as a Community Club and my thanks goes to all the people that have played a part so far in getting us to where we are today. I hope to make further announcements in the coming weeks with regards to key positions at the club and the introduction on more fresh faces to help us move the club forward. All that remains is to thank you for your continued support and to wish our players well today and hope we all are in for a good game. Stuart Bonser Club Chairman Ps – if you are visiting the ground by car please DO NOT OBSTRUCT the junction to Cambrian Way by parking on the grass/path verge as this is both dangerous and you could get a fixed penalty notice from the Council and or Police.

FIRST TEAM UPDATE Hello and welcome to the NFU, home of Ashby Ivanhoe FC. Thank you for all those that have made the trip out to support the team. We have seen an improvement of the teams performances over the past few weeks. I stated recently that we need to reduce the number of goals we are conceding. We have done that. I asked that we compete in games for 90 minutes and not just 45. We have done that also. There is a real enthusiasm and work ethic to this team at this moment which will be invaluable moving forward. Today we welcome Gedling Miners Welfare. They have been in good form of late and are sitting comfortably in the top half of the table. They are a good footballing side who work hard so I look forward to seeing how far we have progressed today. It is with sadness that I report that we have lost Alex Ford to Bardon Hill this week. We are naturally disappointed that he has decided to leave but has been made an offer that he felt he couldn’t turn down. Alex was a product of our youth system alongside Harry Stewart and Jack Robinson who have all made substantial contributions to the 1st team this season. These 3 players plus the 6 other players we have identified as being able to make the step up into the 1st team this season show that our philosophy will work given patience and time. If we continue to provide opportunities for these players, the club, in the medium to long term, will have a very talented pool of home-grown players to challenge at the right end of the table. In the short term, we know where we need to improve and what needs to be done and we will continue to work collectively to deliver this for the club. The important thing is that inside the club we are all on the same page. I also like to add that we have signed Dan Tuck and he goes straight into the squad for today’s squad. I have worked with Dan (Tucky) previously at Coalville Town as a 16 year old and he has continued to develop into a very good young player. I am excited we have managed to get him over the line as he fits into the mould we are looking for at Ashby. Enjoy the game, keep the faith and please be vocal in your support. YOUTH TEAM UPDATE It’s with pleasure to report (after the last few submissions being negative) that the midweek youth team performances appear to be on the up. Results haven’t always matched the improving performances but we are now playing with a better attitude and competing in games for more than 45mins. The last outing was testament to this with an 8-1 overhaul of Allexton and New Parks Eagles. Whilst they too have struggled this season it’s the manner of the performance that was pleasing which ultimately resulted in team goals rather than individual excellence. Goals from Reece Hughes x 4, Matt O’Regan, Dan Axten, Jack Robinson and Harry Stewart helped seal the victory. The confidence shown in this performance wasn’t that of a struggling team, often playing out from the back with real purpose showed the quality that lies within. The next challenge now is to take this performance into the next few games and get a run of results together which will see us climb up the table. Whilst the Midweek youth team performances have improved, results for the midweek Knights have unfortunately gone the other way and has seen them slip down the table. I’m sure they will bounce back over the coming weeks so we have both teams pushing for the top places within the league. Like every club we are always interested in seeing new players therefore any 16 to 18 year olds that want to explore mid-week football should get in touch.

YOUTH DEVELOPMENT REPORT As a club we have worked hard to improve the transition from junior/youth football through to our senior teams so much so that we can now pride ourselves on giving youth a chance. Already this season we seen many of the current youth team players step up and play regularly both for the Reserve and 1st team. These players haven’t just filled in when the senior teams have been short, they have merited their opportunity and in most cases commanded a place in the squads after being given their chance. Two players of note that have forced their way into the 1st team are Jack Robinson who has broken into the squad and starting line-up over the last few weeks and Harry Stewart who made the breakthrough last season and has continued with the 1st team since this season and seemingly making the left back position his own. Jack joined the club as a 12/13 year old and played within a Social Saturday team that the club formed. He then also joined a newly formed Sunday team and progressed through to the youth team once he got through to the U16’s age group, where he was awarded the man of the match in his debut for the midweek youth team. On turning 16 Jack made his debut almost immediately for the Reserve team and made a number of appearances over the remainder of the season. This season he has been almost ever present with the Reserve team before being given his opportunity with the first team making the starting 11 on a number of occasions. Harry joined the club slightly later than Jack joining as a 14 year old within the newly formed Sunday team. Like Jack, Harry joined the youth team once at the U16’s age group and was utilised in numerous positions. His versatility and performances earnt him the Players Player trophy at the end of season awards. On turning 16 he was signed up for the senior teams making his debut not long afterwards, and becoming an ever present in the squad. Soon after his Reserve team debut he was thrust into the 1st team fold which culminated in becoming the youngest player in the clubs history (we think) to play for the 1st team in a cup final. Harry has maintained his status with the first team this season being in every match day squad when available. The journey Jack and Harry have made over the past 12 months is fantastic achievement and is testament to the club for giving them a chance, the coaches in assisting in their development and pushing them through and mostly themselves for their attitude and desire to succeed. The transition they have made should be an inspiration to all the junior players within the club and those wanting to join the club that if you’re good enough, your old enough and you’ll be given chance to prove it.

THE OPPOSITION PRESIDENTS VIEW STAPENHILL Good afternoon & welcome to The NFU in for1947 this afternoon’s game Gedling Welfare. They were formed and ten years afteragainst formation theyMiners joined the Leicestershire Senior

League Division Two and found immediate success, gaining promotion in their debut season and Well for the first time winning that I can ever remember (which contrary to what Jon Emerson says They is notremained half an hour) it looks the Division One championship in the following two seasons. in that like we are in a relegation battle. Forfrom spellsa last week we played some in good stuff Two, at Birstall United 2 gilt edged division, apart single season (1971/1972) Division winning the & tophad flight, now renamed Premier Division, 1986/1987 and 1988/1989. chances to snatch a point in thethe 2nd half but failed totwice takemore either– & are now 18th & vitally need some points. Charlie who as we all know is always a bringer of glad tidings also informed us on the way to the ground last week that the They thenAssociation joined the are Midland Combination Division, for(why five seasons became a founding Football planning to reducePremier the league to 20 staying for lastthere season then diduntil theythey increase it a few years member of the Midland Alliance where they remained until resigning from the league in January 2002. Later that ago then?) & so that means that as many as 5 (FIVE) teams could go down, YIKES !!!! So there we are & we must now year they joined the Leicestershire Senior League and were promoted as runners-up into the Premier Division. In the scrap for every single point asmembers whilst Radcliffe the words of Private Fraser (one for the teenagers) look 2007/2008 season, they were of the Olympic Midland in Football Alliance, but after a fire ravaged their home stadium “doomed” the rest are very closely bunched and 3 wins couldand see rejoined us almost in Leicestershire the top half. Senior League and gained the club was forced to close down. The club reformed in 2009 the promotion to the EMCL in the 2012/2013 season. A real bright point for me in the last few weeks has been the form of some of our home grown youngsters, the likes of Honours Wesley, Stewart, Ford & Robinson all coming into the first team and performing very well is terrific to see and I hope East Midlands Counties Football League Runners-up: we are watching these lads in Ivanhoe shirts for many2013/2014 years to come. Also I watched the Under 15’s County Cup derby Leicestershire Senior League Champions: 2006/2007 at Hood Park on Sunday & again there was1958/1959, some real 1959/1960, encouraging1986/1987, signs there1988/1989, for the future, but for today, let’s get behind Craig, Mark & the lads & hope for 3 points. IN OPPOSITION TODAY GEDLING MINERS WELFARE The Club was formed in 1919, at the same time as the Notts Alliance Football league resumed playing football again after the First World War. In their first Season they finished 3rd in the League and won the League Cup by defeating local side Sneinton FC (now Carlton Town FC) 1-0. At the end of the 1929-30 Season the Club changed its name and became known as Mapperley St. Judes and enjoyed moderate success during this period. During the Second World War they reformed as Gedling Miners Welfare FC and with the restart of football for the 1945-46 Season they went on to win both the Notts Alliance League and Notts Alliance Senior Cup. This was repeated on numerous occasions and this success spilled over into the 1950s, which was the most successful period of the Club. We won the Notts Alliance League and Cup Double many times and at one point remained unbeaten for three Seasons. In the FA Amateur Cup they entertained two of the top sides of the time. Pegasus were the visitors to Plains Road in 1954 and temporary stands were erected all around the Ground to house a crowd of 7,000 plus. Two Seasons later Bishop Auckland visited and the Police put a limit of 10,000 on the Gate. We saw Gedling lose 4-1 to the best amateur team in the country, having missed a penalty at a crucial point in the game. The ‘Bishops’ had six amateur England Internationals on show and the most famous being Bob Hardisty who was the Captain of England. The staggering record attendance at Plains Road, will surely never again be surpassed by a Nottinghamshire amateur Club. These were the good times at Plains Road and unfortunately, the Club has not had the same degree of success since then. The lowest point came at the end of the 1998-99 Season when we had been relegated to Division 2 of the Notts Alliance FL. Only three Committee Members remained with only half a kit, half a team and no money, but the next Season saw us bounce back and under the guidance of Vic Hulme, Gedling won the League, Intermediate Cup and were semi-finalists to Retford United in the Notts FA County Cup. At the end of Season 2001-02 Vic stepped aside as Manager and took up the post of Chairman of the Club. This left the way open for the appointment of Duncan Broad and Mark Allison as the management team for the start of the 2002-03 Season. They had the task of building a team to match the ambitions of the Club and this was achieved when at the end of the next Season we applied and were accepted into the Central Midlands Football League, we then gained promotion to the Supreme Division in our first season which was more than we had anticipated. The club spent five years in the Central Midlands Football League under the guidance of Duncan Broad and Mark Allison before they left the Club, to take up appointments with our near neighbours Gedling Town in May 2009. During that time the Ground has seen a remarkable transformation from virtually a ‘Parks Pitch’ to what is now probably the best amateur ground in the area. Since the floodlights, fencing and hard standing was installed, it has had a profound effect on the Club. We have recently staged Notts FA Cup Finals and various representative games, which speaks for its self. We are have seating on one side of the pitch and have plans to extend this to the road side of the ground. We feel that our facilities are starting to match those of local teams like Arnold Town and Carlton Town and as a result, Gedling were starting to put themselves on the map as one of the premier clubs in Nottingham and thus attracting a higher calibre of player into the fold.

25

IN OPPOSITION TODAY These facilities stood us in good stead when we applied and were accepted for the start of the 2008-09 season into the newly formed East Midland Counties Football League at Step 6 of the Pyramid System. This promotion has also enabled us to apply to play in the FA Cup. We played and lost away to Westfield FC of the MFA in our first attempt, but have great hopes of progressing further in the years to come. With Dunc and Ally leaving one Gedling club for another, it opened the door for the committee to appoint the respected Craig Maddison as manager in time for the start of the EMCL, where he was joined by exprofessional Calvin Plummer as his assistant. The pair finished their first season with a respectable league position of 8th, winning 15 of the 34 games available. Craig and Calvin had a further season at the helm before deciding to resign their position at the end of the 2009-10 campaign with a better finish of 7th. Graham Walker was appointed as manager in the June of 2010 and in his second year in charge took Gedling to a creditable fourth position finishing 4 points behind the champions. In a final game at Derbyshire club Gresley FC a 1-0 victory for the hosts in front of a record-breaking 625 crowd was enough to gain promotion to MFA for Gresley. Graham left the club at the end of the 2010-11 season to join up with Bret Marshall at Retford Town. The committee turned to 1st team coach Lee Boulton to take the managerial reigns who in turn appointed Kuki Morley as his Assistant and Steve Towle as coach. After several difficult results and early exits from the FA Cup and Vase by mutual consent Lee and Kuki stepped down as managers. Committee acted quickly to appoint ex Arnold Town Manager Andy Muldoon as our next manager for the remainder of the 2011-12 season. Andy managed to keep the services of Steve Towle as coach and also brought in the ex Forest duo Bryn Gunn and Calvin Plummer of the Brian Clough era, to assist him. By the end of May 2012 Andy has steadied the ship and the club finished with a respectable points total of 38 and a final league position of 13th. This was enough to persuade Andy and his team to stay for another season, with some new players brought in and a good pre-season behind them optimism was high for the start of the 2012-13 campaign. Unfortunately this expectation didn’t really manifest into results so with very little progress being made, Andy felt it was an opportune time to make way for someone else for the start of the 2013-14 Season. The ‘someone else’ who the Committee appointed was Jonathon (Trigger) Simpson who had spent his previous three years managing Southwell City in the CMFL. Prior to that Trigger had played for Radcliffe Olympic and Gedling under Duncan Broad, so he knew the Club well and just the type of young manager the club were looking to appoint, we were delighted when he accepted our offer of management. The first season for Jonathon and his assistant Mark Foster was really one of transition, both for the club and them as managers, but sound solid decisions being made as the season progressed, with the team finishing a reasonable 12th with 42 points. This is something Jonathon built on during the 201415 Season finishing again in 12th place but with a much better points total of 53, scoring more goals and conceding less than the previous 2 seasons. The team will looked to continue this development during the 2015-16 campaign and the addition of Kelvin Mushambi to his backroom staff as an assistant alongside Mark Foster and Shaun Stocks is great step in the right direction. However, 2015-16 season proved to be the last for Jonathan and his team after finishing in 14th spot with 35 points from 38 games, Jonathan resigned from his position to concentrate on bringing up his young family.

26

vs Gedling Miners Welfare | Saturday 25th November 2017 | www.ashbyivanhoefc.com

IN OPPOSITION TODAY Gedling started the 2016-17 season with Graham Walker and Frank Corrigan returning for a 2nd spell in charge. Things didn’t go well and the pair left the club at Christmas after a run of poor results. This left the door open for goalkeeper Scott Miles to take charge of the team for the remainder of the season. Scott was joined by Sam Peters as his assistant along with coaches Kev Northage and Bruce Clarson, also joining at this stage was physio Dave Green. Unfortunately, Gedling finished the season in a relegation spot which led to a close season of uncertainty to see if they would be relegated and into what division. A reprieve came in late May with the news that due to Greenwood Meadows demise Gedling would remain in the EMCL to everybody’s relief. This season see’s the appointment of another management duo in ex Gedling player Stuart Robinson and Chris Marks. They come with the highest pedigree at this level having won the EMCL title last season with West Bridgford. They quickly added ex-Bridgford coach Steve Astill to their backroom staff along while keeping the services of Kevin Northage and Dave Green. The duo have already created a real buzz around the club assembling a squad capable of competing at this level and a solid pre-season. So, we are all looking forward to what we believe will be a successful campaign, with a squad capable of competing on the pitch, we can all see the progress they have made in the last few weeks and we are confident that Stuart and Chris will bring on-field stability and success back to the club. They will be backed up by the Committee and everyone at the Club to produce a team that we can all be proud of.

ASHBY IVANHOE FC CLUB HISTORY

8

F

Ashby Ivanhoe Football Club was founded in 1948 and play their home matches at the NFU Sports Ground, Lower Packington Road, Ashby de la O 4 UN 19 Zouch in Leicestershire. This is the clubs new home from the beginning of the DED 2012/2013 season. Since being founded in 1948 up until the end of the 2011/2012 season the clubs previous home was at Hood Park also in Ashby de la Zouch.

The club currently consists of three adult teams and a youth team. The first team play in the East Midlands Counties League, with the Reserves in the Leicestershire Senior League Premier Division. In the 2008/2009 season the club formed a Youth Team (Under 18’s) side who play in the Leicestershire Midweek Floodlit Youth League on Wednesday nights. A Sunday team was re-introduced for this season and they play in the Burton Sunday League Division Four. The club also has a large number of junior sides ranging from Under 7’s through to Under 18’s who play in the Burton Junior Football League, Tamworth Junior Football League and the Derby City League. The junior section came after the club merged with the David Hunt Soccer School at the beginning of the 2009/2010 season. In February 2004, Ashby Ivanhoe became an FA Charter Standard football club. The club is very ambitious and has plans to progress further up the league pyramid system. The club is run by an experienced management team and enjoys the support of some very prestigious commercial partners. Ashby Ivanhoe had one of their most successful seasons in 2010/2011 as they completed a league and cup double by winning the Leicestershire Senior League by nine points and also lifted the Coalville Charity Cup for the very first time after producing a superb second half comeback to beat Bardon Hill 3-2 in the final. They have also reached successive Leicestershire Senior Cup finals in 2011/2012 and 2012/2013 but had to settle for runners-up on both occasions losing 3-1, firstly to Ibstock United and then Aylestone Park. The 2013/2014 season saw the first team achieve a long-term ambition as they won promotion into the Step 6 East Midlands Counties League for the 2014/2015 season after finishing third place in the Leicestershire Senior League. It was a close title race with the top three all finishing level on points with Ashby third on goal difference. The Reserves were also promoted to the Leicestershire Senior League Division One. 2014/2015 saw Ashby compete at Step 6 of the non-league pyramid for the first time and they had a very good season and secured a top six finish in the East Midlands Counties League which featured victories against all of the sides above them. The Reserve side were involved in a tight title race and it went down to a last day decider against Lutterworth Athletic Reserves but despite the result going against them on the day they were still promoted for the second season in succession and would play at Step 7 in the Leicestershire Senior League Premier Division for 2015/2016.

ASHBY IVANHOE FC CLUB HISTORY 2015/2016 saw Ashby have another fine season and they mounted a strong title challenge and they led the East Midlands Counties League for the majority of the season before finally finishing in third place. That saw them assured of a first ever appearance in the FA Cup for the 2016/2017 season. Last season was the most memorable in the history of Ashby Ivanhoe Football Club. For the very first time in the clubs history they were accepted to play in the most famous club competition in the world, The FA Cup. It turned into a thrilling journey with higher ranked opponents of Quorn and Loughborough Dynamo knocked out before Ashby fell to Ilkeston in the 1st Qualifying Round. Prior to the Ilkeston defeat Ashby received a visit from the FA Cup which was paraded through the town centre visiting local sponsors before players and spectators had the opportunity to view the cup at the NFU Sports Ground. The league season was inconsistent with a strong finish to the season seeing the team finish in tenth place. The season did end with a first appearance in the final of the Jenkins & Jenkins League Cup but Dunkirk overturned a one goal deficit late on to see Ashby end as runners-up. The new season sees a new management team at the helm of the club with Glyn Andrews and Craig Picknell joining the club from Friar Lane & Epworth with the aim of achieving promotion to Step 5.
