David Morris

CHAIRMAN'S WELCOME Good afternoon and welcome to The NFU Sports ground for today’s game against Dudley Sports, and we hope their players and officials enjoy their visit to Ashby de la Zouch. I’ll leave the football comments on last week’s game to Andy, needless to say we didn’t get what we had hoped for from our visit to Nuneaton Griff. Off the field we took a supporters bus to the game to celebrate our bar Manager’s Mark Rowling’s birthday, I have to say it was great fun with a good crowd of supporters and something we will defiantly look to do again. As far as the facilities go over there the ground was a huge athletics stadium and the sight of Jon Emmerson standing in a long jump pit drinking a warm can of Old Speckled Hen is still making me chuckle ! Talking of Mark (and Ginny) you may not be aware that our Knights Bar here at the club is open 7 days a week. We have 6 TV screens plus the huge screen in the marque and there really is nowhere better to watch sport in the town. Last Friday we held a Cheltenham Races afternoon which was a brilliant atmosphere and utilisation of the clubhouse like that boosts the coffers and helps us to keep the club sustainable. We are happy to host parties or other functions etc. come and have a chat if you are interested in booking a future event. To that end we have our legendary Cup Final Day 6 a side on the horizon, I think still there are 1 or 2 spaces for teams if you want to enter and we are also in talks over an exciting

charity game for the Summer which I’ll confirm in a future column. Finally thanks for your support, the attendance at our last home game was phenomenal and hope we can maintain similar numbers as we head to the business end of the season, it really does make a difference so thanks again. All the best to Andy and the boys today, come on Ivanhoe and enjoy the game. Dave Chairman Ps – if you are visiting the ground by car please DO NOT OBSTRUCT the junction to Cambrian Way by parking on the grass/ path verge as this is both dangerous and you could get a fixed penalty notice from the Council and or Police.

ANDY GRAY

FIRST TEAM UPDATE Hello all. Our last home game saw some amazing support from both old and new faces. It was greatly appreciated by us all. However the day didn't go our way at all on the pitch. We started slowly and made a poor error which lead the first goal. The day became even more difficult when we were reduced to 10 men shortly after. I'm sure most of you will agree that the decision was harsh to say the least. On a positive note the lads dug in and worked hard to stay in the game until our opponents unfortunately doubled their lead late on. We hoped to bounce back last week but were beaten by a very hardworking Nuneaton Griff side. Those two defeats have galvanised the group in the last week. We are united and totally focussed on getting the three points today. We welcome all from Dudley Sports and hope they enjoy their visit to the NFU.

We will of course not want them to leave with any points as we bid to cement our playoff position. Thank you once again. Regards, Andy Gray

BY TONY BURNETT, CEO, KICK IT OUT

NON-LEAGUE AND GRASSROOTS ARE THE BEDROCK OF FOOTBALL. EVERYONE SHOULD BE ABLE TO ENJOY IT. Having played Non-League football, I know how much the game means to the communities that support and grow out of clubs around the country at this level. Passion, hard work, loyalty and enjoyment runs through Non-League, it is the lifeblood of football. In stadiums just like this one, up and down the country, fans, players, coaches and club staff dedicate their afternoons, seasons, sometimes whole lives to supporting the football club they love. Non-League Day is a chance to celebrate that. All the people that make games like this possible, on and off the pitch, and the communities that have been created as a result. But, as these communities are becoming increasingly diverse, clubs must do as much as they can to help make fans, players and staff from all different backgrounds feel welcome. Football should be a game for everyone. Stadiums, whether Non-League or Premier League, should be places where all fans feel like they belong. Where players can revel in incredible football atmospheres without having to worry about supporters crossing the line. They should be places where fans of all races and religions, women, those with disabilities, and members of the LGBTQ+ communities can access and enjoy matches safe in the knowledge that these spaces are for them as much as they are for anyone else.

Creating footballing spaces free from discrimination is part of what we do at Kick It Out. When incidents do happen, we work with the relevant authorities to ensure those responsible are held accountable for their actions. We also deliver a range of education initiatives, to fans found guilty of discriminatory abuse, as well as sessions delivered to Academy players across English football. And when clubs and leagues need support developing their own diversity and inclusion practices, we guide them through that process. But we cannot do any of this without your help. Reporting is our greatest weapon against discrimination in football - without it we are fighting in the dark. So if you see or hear any discrimination in the stands this Non-League Day, or any other day, please report to us at www.kickitout.org. Together we can get rid of racism, homophobia, misogyny. Together we can kick it out for good.

ASHBY IVANHOE

CLUB HISTORY

A

shby Ivanhoe Football Club was founded in 1948 and play their home matches at the NFU Sports Ground, Lower Packington Road, Ashby de la Zouch in Leicestershire. This is the clubs new home from the beginning of the 2012/2013 season. Since being founded in 1948 up until the end of the 2011/2012 season the clubs previous home was at Hood Park also in Ashby de la Zouch. The club currently consists of Two adult teams and Twelve sides in the Junior section. The first team play in the Midland Football League Division One, with the Knights in the Leicestershire Senior League Premier Division. In the 2008/2009 season the club formed a Youth Team (Under 18’s) side who play in the Leicestershire Midweek Floodlit Youth League on Wednesday nights. A Sunday team was reintroduced for this season and they play in the Burton Sunday League Division Four. The club’s junior sides ranging from Under 7’s through to Under 18’s play in the Burton Junior Football League and the Tamworth Junior Football Leagues. The junior section came after the club merged with the David Hunt Soccer School at the beginning of the 2009/2010 season. In February 2004, Ashby Ivanhoe became an FA Charter Standard football club. The club is very ambitious and has plans to progress further up the league pyramid system. The club is run by an experienced management team and enjoys the support of some very prestigious commercial partners. Ashby Ivanhoe had one of their most successful seasons in 2010/11 as they completed a league and cup double by winning the Leicestershire Senior League by nine points and also lifted the Coalville Charity Cup for the very first time after producing a superb second half comeback to beat Bardon Hill 3-2 in the final. They have

also reached successive Leicestershire Senior Cup finals in 2011/2012 and 2012/2013 but had to settle for runners-up on both occasions losing 3-1, firstly to Ibstock United and then Aylestone Park. The 2013/2014 season saw the first team achieve a long-term ambition as they won promotion into the Step 6 of the Pyramid system playing in the East Midlands Counties League for the 2014/2015 season after finishing third place in the Leicestershire Senior League. It was a close title race with the top three all finishing level on points with Ashby third on goal difference. The Reserves were also promoted to the Leicestershire Senior League Division One. 2014/2015 saw Ashby compete at Step 6 for the first time and they had a very good season and secured a top six finish in the East Midlands Counties League which featured victories against all of the sides above them. The Reserve side were involved in a tight title race and it went down to a last day decider against Lutterworth Athletic Reserves but despite the result going against them on the day they were still promoted for the second season in succession and will play at Step 7 in the Leicestershire Senior League Premier Division for 2015/2016. 2015/2016 saw Ashby have another fine season and they mounted a strong title challenge and they led the East Midlands Counties League for the majority of the season before finally finishing in third place. That saw them assured of a first ever appearance in the FA Cup for the 2016/2017 season where the aim again will be to push for promotion to Step 5. The 2016-17 season was the most memorable in the history of Ashby Ivanhoe Football Club. For the very first time in the clubs history they were accepted to play in the most famous club competition in the world, The FA Cup. It turned into a thrilling journey with higher

Prior to the Ilkeston defeat Ashby received a visit from the FA Cup which was paraded through the town centre visiting local sponsors before players and spectators had the opportunity to view the cup at the NFU Sports Ground. The league season was inconsistent with a strong finish to the season seeing the team finish in tenth place. The season did end with a first appearance in the final of the Jenkins & Jenkins League Cup but Dunkirk overturned a one goal deficit late on to see Ashby end as runners-up. The 2017-18 season saw the 1st team finish Seventeenth in the East midland Counties and the Reserves finished in the bottom Two and relegation to Division One. 2018-19 saw the 1st team finish in the bottom half of the East Midlands Counties Football League and The Reserves now called the Knights finish runners up in the Senior League Division One and promoted back to step 7 in the Senior League Premier Division.
