CHAIRMANS WELCOME New Year to you all and good afternoon and welcome to today’s match against our visitors Arnold Town and may I extend a warm welcome to the players, officials and spectators of Arnold Town and hope that we all enjoy a good match. If we are playing today, it will be as a result of days being spent on the pitch this last week, removing water, forking and sanding which is no mean task when it rains every day and my extended thanks goes to Ian Irving who has yet again stepped up to the plate to work hard to get the game on so thanks Ian your work is very much appreciated as I know how many hours you commit each week to the club. As we have turned the year we now see a very busy schedule up to the end of the season with a lot of games still to be played and I hope that the team can maintain their performances going forward and take confidence from the result that’s been coming last Saturday against Holwell Sports. The support for the team was great too so thank you for the travelling supporters who made the long trip but it was worth it I am sure you will agree. The team played exceptionally well again and a great hat-trick by Mitch Woodbine and a first for Nathan Banton, topped up with Angus Blair-Park goal saw us deserved winners. I know that Marc and Craig are woring hard to bring a couple of additional players in and our full support is with them to do this. As I have said many times before, there are 3 key ingredients to maintaining a sustainable and joined up club. 1. Chimney Pots – our support continues to grow and grow and your support helps the players, the atmosphere and to cover our match day costs and as the population continues to grow in Ashby we are reaching more and more new spectators as well as retain the loyal ones. 2. Player catchment and club structure – unlike some clubs that think paying players is the way to succeed we have a completely different approach and we are fortunate that we can pull players from a distance close to the club and that don’t come with their hand out asking for cash and that genuinely want to play for the club and the management team – we also have a clear football pathway structure from the Under 7’s to the 1st team and one which will, over time, get players and coaches playing the “Ashby Way” and this will make for many good years to come as we will have a natural conveyor belt of youth coming through at one club. 3. Commercial support – again we do not rely on egotistical individuals to fund the club (or should I say players) but work hard to develop and grow relationships with our sponsors and we have a lot of national and local business within the town and our reputation for looking after our sponsors is growing – this on its own can make a club as without their sponsorship we would struggle to develop and grow as we have done. I would like to thank all of our supporters for your continued support of the team both home and away. It gives me great pleasure to see so many of you watching the team and I know that the players are very appreciative too as there’s nothing better than having great support encouraging you from the sidelines. I must extend a mention and get well to Charlie Tissington Jnr too who is at home recovering from a knee operation and wish you a speedy recovery and keep off the dancefloor at Manhattans. All that remains is to wish our players well today and hope we all are in for a good game. Stuart Bonser Club Chairman Ps – if you are visiting the ground by car please DO NOT OBSTRUCT the junction to Cambrian Way by parking on the grass/path verge as this is both dangerous and you could get a fixed penalty notice from the Council and or Police.

THE PRESIDENTS VIEW Good afternoon everyone, and if you are reading this then hopefully we have a game on at The NFU after a combination of away games & grim weather seem to mean we haven’t played at home for ages. At least the 2 away games we have played this year have been very encouraging. Both at Holwell and at Borrowash our young side put in huge effort and at times really did play some terrific football, so well done to Mark, Craig & all the lads, tremendous and keep it going. After the Borrowash victory we heard that their club was in some turmoil with manager quitting and even that they have resigned from The EMCL, I thought Charlie was going to use the dreaded word “expunged” but thankfully it now looks like they’ll see out the season so our valuable points are safe. Talking of Charlie, many of you will know that he’s had a knee operation just after Christmas, I’ve been to see him a couple of times & he’s progressing well and still as cheery as ever. In fact he’s sitting in front of the telly with a cup of tea & the dogs, munching biscuits and shouting at Viv, so nothing has changed really. Finally, onto the pitch, you may know that after lots of preseason work on it we still had a few problem areas but great work by Stuart, Ian & Jon liaising with some top contractors we really hope that our recent work will make significant improvements, so well done chaps. I won’t be in attendance today as I’ll be at Cheltenham Races but I’ll be following on Twitter, so good luck to Craig, Mark and the lads & get us another vital 3 points. IN OPPOSITION TODAY ARNOLD TOWN Football has been played in the Arnold area for over a hundred years and the Eagles can trace their proud history back to its beginnings. The current club, formed in 1989, was born out of the merger between the old established Arnold FC (who began life as Arnold St Mary’s in 1928) and near neighbours Arnold Kingswell. Initially the newly formed club competed in the Central Midlands League (Supreme Division) and then moved into the NCEL Division One and then swiftly to the NCEL Premier after two successive Championship seasons in 92/93 and 93/94. On a roll, the Eagles almost made it three in a row but ended 94/95 as runners up in the NCEL Premier. Season 2010-2011 saw Arnold compete for the 17th successive season in the NCEL Premier Division. The Eagles have managed to lift the prestigious Notts Senior Cup trophy no less than five times since 1989 and have been runners up once. The most recent success came in 2005 when spectacular long range effort from Scott Huckerby was enough to give the Eagles a 1-0 victory over Eastwood Town in front of a crowd of more than 650 at Notts. County’s Meadow Lane ground. A number of fine runs in the FA Cup and FA Vase have also been achieved over the years. In 2002 the Eagles had their best run in the FA Cup since reforming when they reached the 4th Qualifying Round before narrowly going out to Scarborough in front of 900 at Gedling Road. During the 05/06 season the Club equalled their best FA Vase performance by reaching the 5th Round where they lost out by a single goal to Crook Town, again at Gedling Road, in front of 560 spectators. They had earlier reached the same stage in 01/02 going out 1-3 at Wroxham. The 2007-08 season saw the curtain finally come down at the Club’s Gedling Road ground which had been their home for over fifty years. They spent part of 2008-09 playing home games at various local clubs whilst waiting for their move to their new home. The Eagles finally moved into their new £2 million home in January 2009. The first game saw the Eagles win 3-2 against Thackley with Craig Mitchell scoring the first ever goal at EV. 2008/09 saw the Eagle Valley Facility officially opened with friendlies against Notts County with a Club record attendance of over 1300, Nigel Clough’s Derby County with over 700 in attendance and an official opening day with Sven Goran Eriksson doing the honours cutting the ribbon outside the Clubhouse. A real strength for the Club has been the strong fan base and the support provided by the Supporters Club which has existed for over 25 years. The Club has consistently maintained links with the professional game. Chris Freestone (Middlesbrough - 1994) Tristram Whitman (Doncaster Rovers - 2000) and most recently (2006) Ben Hutchinson (Middlesbrough) all moved from the Arnold team into the professional ranks. Chris Freestone returned to us in 2005/06 and is now the Clubs top goal scorer with over 100 goals. Freestone, together with Martin Carruthers (Aston Villa, Stoke City), took over the management reigns midway through season 2009-2010. Former Eagles managers include Ray O’Brien (Notts. County & Rep. of Ireland), Iain McCullough (Notts. County), Bill Brindley (Notts. County and Forest) and Phil Starbuck (Forest). The Club has had its fair share of professional players wearing the Arnold shirt including the likes of Nigel Jemson, Jason Lee, Brett Williams and Bryn Gunn (Forest) and Adrian Thorpe (Notts County).

IN OPPOSITION TODAY 2012/13 Will go down in history for the wrong reasons with Gary Hayward at the helm but with the club languishing near the bottom Graham Walker and Frank Corrigan took the reins and despite a 13 point penalty, Arnold still made up the points to finish 3rd from bottom but unfortunately we still faced relegation hence our drop into the EMCL. Secretary Graham Peck took over as Chairman due to the sad passing of MR Arnold himself, Roy Francis and as if this couldn’t get any worse they did with an automatic relegation. 2013/2014. After a great first half of the season Arnold were sitting in the top two, but after Xmas inclement weather saw a 9 week break from the game and a significant dip in form and 6th was the final placing. 2014/2015. A rather up and down season which saw the departure of Graham Peck as Chairman and at the end of the season both Managers left the Club. A solid mid table finish. 2015/2016. Ray Chilton appointed manager. Ray has connections with the Club mainly with the Youth teams winning several League and Cups along the way. Ray was one of the committee who brought the club to Eagle Valley after many years at our former home at Gedling Road (King George v). A disappointing season saw us finish second from bottom and Ray decided to step down as manager. 2016/2017. Dave Marlow joined us from Linby CW as our new manager. Dave brought us stability during a much better season finishing 15th, sadly with things seemingly on the up Dave decided to move on to Eastwood CFC at the end of the season. We also lost Peter Chapman our Chairman and Treasurer who had helped steady the ship after losing Roy Francis a few years previous. 2017/2018. Another new start see’s Tom Richardson take the reins for this coming season. Tom and his assistant Chris Galley have joined us from Real Utd. Also joining us from Real Utd as player/coach is former Eagle, Tristram Whitman who returns to the Club. We wish them well…

ASHBY IVANHOE FC CLUB HISTORY

8

F

Ashby Ivanhoe Football Club was founded in 1948 and play their home matches at the NFU Sports Ground, Lower Packington Road, Ashby de la O 4 UN 19 Zouch in Leicestershire. This is the clubs new home from the beginning of the DED 2012/2013 season. Since being founded in 1948 up until the end of the 2011/2012 season the clubs previous home was at Hood Park also in Ashby de la Zouch.

The club currently consists of three adult teams and a youth team. The first team play in the East Midlands Counties League, with the Reserves in the Leicestershire Senior League Premier Division. In the 2008/2009 season the club formed a Youth Team (Under 18’s) side who play in the Leicestershire Midweek Floodlit Youth League on Wednesday nights. A Sunday team was re-introduced for this season and they play in the Burton Sunday League Division Four. The club also has a large number of junior sides ranging from Under 7’s through to Under 18’s who play in the Burton Junior Football League, Tamworth Junior Football League and the Derby City League. The junior section came after the club merged with the David Hunt Soccer School at the beginning of the 2009/2010 season. In February 2004, Ashby Ivanhoe became an FA Charter Standard football club. The club is very ambitious and has plans to progress further up the league pyramid system. The club is run by an experienced management team and enjoys the support of some very prestigious commercial partners. Ashby Ivanhoe had one of their most successful seasons in 2010/2011 as they completed a league and cup double by winning the Leicestershire Senior League by nine points and also lifted the Coalville Charity Cup for the very first time after producing a superb second half comeback to beat Bardon Hill 3-2 in the final. They have also reached successive Leicestershire Senior Cup finals in 2011/2012 and 2012/2013 but had to settle for runners-up on both occasions losing 3-1, firstly to Ibstock United and then Aylestone Park. The 2013/2014 season saw the first team achieve a long-term ambition as they won promotion into the Step 6 East Midlands Counties League for the 2014/2015 season after finishing third place in the Leicestershire Senior League. It was a close title race with the top three all finishing level on points with Ashby third on goal difference. The Reserves were also promoted to the Leicestershire Senior League Division One. 2014/2015 saw Ashby compete at Step 6 of the non-league pyramid for the first time and they had a very good season and secured a top six finish in the East Midlands Counties League which featured victories against all of the sides above them. The Reserve side were involved in a tight title race and it went down to a last day decider against Lutterworth Athletic Reserves but despite the result going against them on the day they were still promoted for the second season in succession and would play at Step 7 in the Leicestershire Senior League Premier Division for 2015/2016.

ASHBY IVANHOE FC CLUB HISTORY 2015/2016 saw Ashby have another fine season and they mounted a strong title challenge and they led the East Midlands Counties League for the majority of the season before finally finishing in third place. That saw them assured of a first ever appearance in the FA Cup for the 2016/2017 season. Last season was the most memorable in the history of Ashby Ivanhoe Football Club. For the very first time in the clubs history they were accepted to play in the most famous club competition in the world, The FA Cup. It turned into a thrilling journey with higher ranked opponents of Quorn and Loughborough Dynamo knocked out before Ashby fell to Ilkeston in the 1st Qualifying Round. Prior to the Ilkeston defeat Ashby received a visit from the FA Cup which was paraded through the town centre visiting local sponsors before players and spectators had the opportunity to view the cup at the NFU Sports Ground. The league season was inconsistent with a strong finish to the season seeing the team finish in tenth place. The season did end with a first appearance in the final of the Jenkins & Jenkins League Cup but Dunkirk overturned a one goal deficit late on to see Ashby end as runners-up. The new season sees a new management team at the helm of the club with Glyn Andrews and Craig Picknell joining the club from Friar Lane & Epworth with the aim of achieving promotion to Step 5.
