CHAIRMAN'S WELCOME Good afternoon and welcome to today’s MFL game against our visitors Studley Town FC and may I extend a warm welcome to the players, officials and spectators of Studley Town FC, who visit the NFU for the first time. Without repeating the notes you will read from Andy, the last few games have been a real test of how far the team have progressed as a group and all credit to the players for their commitment, performance and desire to want to play together and for the Club and many of the Club officials and spectators have commented that this is the best they have seen our team play in years, so real well done lads and you deserve the plaudits. From a personal note, this is probably the first time also that the club is aligned both on and off the field and that is how I have always stated it should be if we are to move forward. The relationship between the managers is healthy and clear, the management team have embraced the introduction of youth players and bought into the longer term objective of the clubs ethos, the players are buoyant in both the first and knights dressing rooms, we have a manager, Andy Gray that is delivering what was asked of him when he re-joined us and his team of Pete, Rich, Adie, Rob, Andy and Rob are all working hard together and this makes a massive difference to whether your succeed or fail. The key now is to remain grounded and consistent in our approach going forward and take each game as they come and keep applying the same level of performance that the players are now showing. The rest will take care of itself. I asked the resident, David Morris to be the Who’s Who in this week’s programme and please look it’s a good read. We also welcome todays Mascot Ollie Barnett and I hope you enjoy your afternoon with us Ollie as you walk out with the players and cheer them on during the game. This Tuesday sees us return to cup action against Hinckley and we are hoping for a good crowd too so please come along and carry on with your support for the team as it really does make a big difference to the players. The club is working hard off the field too to secure the freehold of the ground and I will update you in the coming weeks on our progress with this milestone for the club’s future. All that remains is to wish the players the best of luck and hope you all enjoy a good game. Stuart Bonser Club Chairman vs Studley | Saturday 28th September 2019 | www.ashbyivanhoefc.com

FIRST TEAM UPDATE Hello all. It's been a very positive last week or so. We faced Lichfield City a week last Tuesday. Days after our FA Vase exit to Sandbach. As I said in my last notes, Lichfield are one of the top sides in this league. The 4-1 victory was totally deserved but to me the most impressive thing was the performance. For the first time in my tenure we played the way we train and that was pleasing for all involved. Next up was an away trip to Stafford who were unbeaten at home this season. The most important thing to me was whether we could replicate our last performance. I needn't have worried. We totally outplayed our opposition and ran out 0-4 winners. The way in which we pressed and then our calmness on the ball was a pleasure to watch. This then lead us onto Tuesday's game. A tough League Cup tie v Heather who were unbeaten this season in the league above. Having been beaten 1-3 by them last season it was a good 'yardstick' to see how far we'd progressed. We made a few changes and came away with a totally deserved 1-2 victory. Again we were very good all over the park and we have now produced three excellent performances. However my staff and myself will ensure that we remain focussed on the team's development and continue to work to improve. All the players involved should be commended but none more so than Benn Minshull. Of our last 10 goals he has scored 7 and assisted 2. Well done so far Skipper. A personal thank you from me goes to all behind the scenes at the club. We all appreciate your efforts in moving this club forward on and off the field. A warm welcome to Studley and hope you all enjoy the game and hopefully another good performance. Regards Andy Gray FIRST TEAM UPDATE SPONSORED BY

IN OPPOSITION TODAY Studley History The origin of Studley football club can be traced back to 1971 when as BKL the team was put together by employees of BKL Fittings, playing in the Redditch Sunday League. After playing at this level for 15 years the decision was made to move to Saturday football and in 1986 the renamed Studley BKL joined the Midland Football Combination. Competing in Division 2, the side finished 4th and won the Challenge Vase in their first season, this was followed the next year by an improvement to 2nd in the Division. A further year of development saw the team promoted to Division1, the step up showed that the team was ready for the task and a top half finish was achieved. Season 1991/92 saw the hard work pay off as “The Bees” were crowned Champions and gain promotion to the Premier Division. The first season in the Premier Division was one of consolidation but after that Studley BKL quickly became established as one of the top 6 Premiership sides. Season 2000/01 saw a change in the management at the club with the retirement of John Adams after many years at the helm. He was replaced by Mark Chambers, whose tenure was an instant success with the club finishing as runners-up in the Midland Combination Premier Division – resulting in promotion to the Midland Football Alliance- and also winning the Worcestershire Senior Urn for the first time. Changes to the back room staff saw Mark recruit in ex West Bromwich Albion and Birmingham City professionals Nicky Cross and Steve Cooper. 2001/02 saw BKL Fittings go into liquidation and the Social Club, who had been long time supporters of the club was sold, the now renamed Studley FC came into existence on 2nd July 2002. Season 2003/04 saw the addition of new players, one of whom was ex Liverpool player David Burrows, and with 10 games left the club was in with a great chance of winning the league, along with a last 16 appearance in the FA Vase away at Gosport. It was after loosing this FA Vase game that the club learnt of the sudden death of Steve Cooper – it was a huge loss to all connected with the club- and the season then fell away with a 5th place finish being achieved. Close season saw the departure of Mark Chambers and ex Studley player Kevin Rowlands stepped into the mangers position, the most notable point in this period being an excellent run to the final of the Worcestershire Senior Cup, beating Moor Green, Evesham and Bromsgrove along the way before losing out to Halesowen Town in a two legged final. 2006/07 saw another set of “new faces” in charge at “The Beehive” when brothers and ex Studley players Lee and Glenn Adams took charge along with Tim Guy, after a first season of hard work it was a case of steady development. Winning the Worcestershire Senior Urn for the 5th time in 2008/09 and then reaching the final again in 2010/11. After what was a difficult season in 2011/12 the managers decided to take a break from football and resigned at the end of the campaign. Lee Knight was appointed for the start of the following season and with a squad of mainly new players had the task of trying to build once again, the season proved to be a very problematic one, a mixture of excellent results and some very poor performances saw the club at the wrong end of the table for most of the season and culminated in their first ever relegation, back to the Midland Football Combination. We go into season 2013/14 with another change of manager, Paul Smith taking over and a completely fresh squad of players, in spite of the relegation everybody involved with the club is taking a very positive attitude into the new campaign and are looking forward to the challenges that it will entail. A change of Manager 2/3 games into the 2014/15 season with Adrian Mander taking over the hot seat.Adrian left us towards the end of the season(due to work commitments ) and Kevin Kingham took up the reigns finishing the season mid table.Kevin continued throughout the 2015/16 season with a mid table finish again that season. The 2016/17 the team got off to a bad start and Kevin left the club just prior to Christmas with the team in a relegation place.Keith Draper took over bringing in Vaughan Pearhouse ,Dan Dineen and Kim Casey and up to date results have improved somewhat. We avoided relegation with two games to go and won the Bham Midweek Floodlit Cup with a 2-1 victory over Coventry Copeswood at Leamington F.C.So we go into this season with fresh optimism. The 2017/18 season ,we started off very well holding top spot for several weeks.Keith Draper left halway through the season leaving Vaughan Pearhouse to step up as Manager bringing in Matt Dorgan to assist him and finishing in the top ten. However the club decided to appoint local man Jon Edwards for the 2018/19 season who brought in Wayne Bunn and Justin Folkes to assist him.

WHO’S WHO AT THE CLUB Let Us Introduce - David Morris - Player, Chairman, President I joined Ashby Ivanhoe in 1981 after my school friend Charlie Tissington persuaded me that it would be a good idea, who would have thought that 38 years later I’d still have nothing better to do ! I joined initially as a centre forward, but much to my annoyance was selected at centre half for the first few seasons. They were great days full of humour and general silliness & stories that we still recount today. I eventually persuaded a certain Eric Avins that I could play up front, I wore him down eventually and ended the season as top goal scorer, sadly I also snapped my cruciate ligament in the final game & had to collect my trophy on crutches from Jeff Astle at the awards evening held in Manhattans in those days. After being injured for a year I came back and was a member of a terrific side that won The County Cup at Shepshed Dynamo, another great day & captured on a DVD somewhere too ! After the old knee went again a couple more times I had to finish playing. After having such a great time with great friends & team mates I still wanted to be involved with the club so did a bit of management with Charlie & joined “t” committee to assist off the field. Eventually that role increased and I took over as Chairman (voted held in The Lamb obviously) which I did for 15 years. During that time the club vastly improved the Hood Park ground & progressed from The North West Leicestershire League to The Leicester Senior League, our first entry into The National Pyramid (Step 7) which meant we were also eligible (with a little creativity around our ahem facilitates) for The FA Vase ! Once again great times with great friends and colleagues all pulling in the same direction, it’s amazing what can be achieved when that happens, I stood down as Chairman as frankly I’d had enough of the day to day hassles (of which even at our level I assure you there are lots) but was delighted to accept the role of President offered by Stuart & his team. It great that the club progressed to Step 6 via The East Midlands Counties League & I’m really enjoying our season so far in The Midland Football League, we’re playing some terrific football so hope Andy & the lads can keep it going. I especially enjoy our away days with my son Ryan (who most defiantly has the “Ivanhoe bug”) , Charlie, Emmo & Bucko we have a great laugh & seeing new places is good fun, although there are not many grounds at our level that top The NFU I can tell you. Still it’s a brilliant day out & I thoroughly recommend it ! Off the field we have some challenges at the moment but I’m confident that Stuart & the management team can navigate us through them. I still enjoy helping out as much as I can behind the scenes (ok bar) as we try to maintain & improve the facilities for everyone at the club. We have a small but committed group of volunteers but could always do with help be it physical, financial or moral so if you have something to offer please let us know, we’re not getting any younger! ASHBY KNIGHTS UPDATE Firstly I would like to wish Andy and the lads all the best for today’s game. They’ve been playing some brilliant football and more importantly getting some fantastic results, no more so than on Tuesday night against Heather St Johns. The Knights have had some up and down results recently with us playing Anstey two weeks ago and losing 2-0 with no more than 9 players unavailable. However we played Friar Lane in our last league game last weekend who started the game in 3rd place and unbeaten in the league. We have been struggling for goals this season but on Saturday we managed to score 4 really well worked goals. A brilliant outside of the foot finish from Andy Hulley and also two goals for one of our youngest members of the squad Ben Windridge were very pleasing to see for me and Paz. Moving onto Tuesday night we were faced up again St Andrews in the county cup who are a league above us. We again fielded a very young side including Ryan Downing, Owen Gibbons, Torin Harkin and Ben Windridge to name a few. The lads started really well and gave the home side nothing. However a mistake from us gifted the home side a 1-0 lead to take into half time. The second half again we created chances and played some good football but a couple of individual mistakes against a clinical side unfortunately meant that the game got away from us. However there were yet again lots of positives for me, Paz and the lads to take from the game and take into our league form. I hope you all enjoy the game and can get down to support the lads the next time we are at home. Robbie Avins Ashby Ivanhoe Knights Manager

ASHBY IVANHOE FC CLUB HISTORY

70 YE AR S
The club currently consists of three adult teams and a youth team. The first team play in the Midland Football League Division 1, with the Knights in the Leicestershire Senior League Premier Division. The club also has a large number of junior sides ranging from Under 7’s through to Under 18’s who play in the Burton Junior Football League, Tamworth Junior Football League and the Derby City League. The junior section came after the club merged with the David Hunt Soccer School at the beginning of the 2009/2010 season. In February 2004, Ashby Ivanhoe became an FA Charter Standard football club. The club is very ambitious and has plans to progress further up the league pyramid system. The club is run by an experienced management team and enjoys the support of some very prestigious commercial partners. Ashby Ivanhoe had one of their most successful seasons in 2010/11 as they completed a league and cup double by winning the Leicestershire Senior League by nine points and also lifted the Coalville Charity Cup for the very first time after producing a superb second half comeback to beat Bardon Hill 3-2 in the final. They have also reached successive Leicestershire Senior Cup finals in 2011/2012 and 2012/2013 but had to settle for runnersup on both occasions losing 3-1, firstly to Ibstock United and then Aylestone Park. The 2013/2014 season saw the first team achieve a long-term ambition as they won promotion into the Step 6 East Midlands Counties League for the 2014/2015 season after finishing third place in the Leicestershire Senior League. It was a close title race with the top three all finishing level on points with Ashby third on goal difference. The Reserves were also promoted to the Leicestershire Senior League Division One. 2014/2015 saw Ashby compete at Step 6 of the non-league pyramid for the first time and they had a very good season and secured a top six finish in the East Midlands Counties League which featured victories against all of the sides above them. ASHBY IVANHOE FC CLUB HISTORY promoted for the second season in succession and will play at Step 7 in the Leicestershire Senior League Premier Division for 2015/2016. 2015/2016 saw Ashby have another fine season and they mounted a strong title challenge and they led the East Midlands Counties League for the majority of the season before finally finishing in third place. That saw them assured of a first ever appearance in the FA Cup for the 2016/2017 season where the aim again will be to push for promotion to Step 5. The 2016-17 season was the most memorable in the history of Ashby Ivanhoe Football Club. For the very first time in the clubs history they were accepted to play in the most famous club competition in the world, The FA Cup. It turned into a thrilling journey with higher ranked opponents of Quorn and Loughborough Dynamo knocked out before Ashby fell to Ilkeston in the 1st Qualifying Round. Prior to the Ilkeston defeat Ashby received a visit from the FA Cup which was paraded through the town centre visiting local sponsors before players and spectators had the opportunity to view the cup at the NFU Sports Ground. The league season was inconsistent with a strong finish to the season seeing the team finish in tenth place. The season did end with a first appearance in the final of the Jenkins & Jenkins League Cup but Dunkirk overturned a one goal deficit late on to see Ashby end as runners-up.
