David Morris
CHAIRMAN'S WELCOME Good afternoon and welcome to The NFU for this afternoon’s game against Wolverhampton Sporting Community. Welcome to the players and officials of Wolverhampton Sporting Community and we hope they enjoy their visit to Ashby de la Zouch, quite a few of us travelled over to Wolverhampton in January and after a combative game we managed a 2-1 victory, which I’m sure we would take again today. We had another terrific crowd again last Saturday against Dudley Sports and after today we have just 2 scheduled home fixtures which are Atherstone on 12thApril (hopefully they will have won the league by then and have their feet up !) and in form Heath Hayes on 23rd April so be great if you can give us your support again for those 2 huge games. I’d like to give a mention to The Knights now being Manager by Shaun Hession. “Esso” has galvanised the group and whilst they are not winning games they have been much more competitive of late and picked up some points against some tough opponents so keep going Esso and the lads ! I mentioned in last week’s programme that we might be hosting a charity game, well that is now confirmed for Sunday 12th June and will feature Miles For Smiles 11 vs a Celebrity 11 made up of Hollyoaks and Emmerdale stars plus Joe Cullen, top darts player with a few ex footballers (Paddy Kenny, Simon Church) also playing, should be a great afternoon for a good cause so a date for your diary hopefully. Finally all information on the activities at the club are best found via our Social
Media channels, Facebook will give you the most detailed information, if you can’t make the game Twitter will give you up to the minute scores and Instagram some nice pictures (anyone would think I knew what I was talking about !) please follow us across those channels and if you can share some of the content too that widens our reach and really helps boost numbers at the games and interest in the club. Finally as always I’d like to wish Andy and the team all the best for this afternoon’s game, come on Ivanhoe ! Enjoy the game. Dave Chairman Ps – if you are visiting the ground by car please DO NOT OBSTRUCT the junction to Cambrian Way by parking on the grass/ path verge as this is both dangerous and you could get a fixed penalty notice from the Council and or Police.

ANDY GRAY
FIRST TEAM UPDATE Welcome back to everyone today. It was fantastic to see and hear your support again last week. The players, backroom staff, and myself greatly appreciate your continued support. Let's hope there are some new faces here today too. Last weeks 1-0 victory over Dudley Sports was very flattering to our visitors. We had several players missing due to suspensions and injuries but we were in control of the game for the entire 90 minutes and there were some very pleasing individual performances too. We had 14 very good chances and many more efforts which we were unable to convert. The opposition goalkeeper had the game of his life and if it were not for a 'worldie' from Chris Acott we would have unjustly drawn a blank. It was however another three points which has improved our playoff place aspirations. We will attempt to increase those further today as we welcome Wolverhampton Sporting to the NFU. The reverse fixture saw us run our
1-2 winners in a fairly close encounter. I hope we can complete the double over them today. Finally thank you all yet again. Regards, Andy Gray

IN OPPOSITION TODAY
WOLVERHAMPTON S.C. Formerly known as Chubb Sports F.C we lost our home club and pitches due to the Chubb lock and safe factory closing down and being sold for housing. Our new name of HeathTown Rangers was chosen by the existing players who also designed the clubs badge in 2001. After much success competing in the Bilston Partnership Youth Football League until under17’s we entered the West Midland Regional League in 2005-2006 competing in the youth league. The following season we entered our first team into Division 2 and in the 2006-2007 season we won the Division 2 title and also claimed the Youth League title. In the 2007-2008 season we entered our reserve team into Division 2 and our first team gained promotion from Division 1 into the Premiership and also won the Staffs Challenge Cup. In our first season in the premier division of the West Midland Regional League 20082009 we finished 8th and reached the final of the league cup which was postponed much to our disappointment. During the 2010-2011 season we decided to change our name from HeathTown Rangers to Wolverhampton Sporting Community Football Club because we have achieved what we originally set out to achieve under the name Heath Town Rangers and for us to push further up the footballing ladder we needed to change our name. In the 2012-2013 season after losing there opening 10 games due to the management team leaving after one game Mark Hopson introduced Paul Harrison & Roberto Gocan to assist him with the managing of the first team squad and after the poor start Mark, Paul & Roberto stabalised the squad which saw them go on a fantastic run of form leading them to a 10th placed finish in the West Midland
Regional Premier League which is our highest finish since 2008-2009. For the forth coming 2014/2015 season the committee decided on forming our U18’s & Reserved side together into 1 team to Form our new U21 side that will be competing in the Staffordshire County Senior League Division 2 South which Martyn Bottomer will oversee the U21 development. In May 2014 Sporting have finally found their own home after years of searching moving to the Old Great Wyrley FC ground on Hazel Lane. Work has begun to develop the ground so that it can be graded for step 5 football and so the club can start to get the local community of Great Wyrley involved in the club. In July 2014 Mark Hopson & Paul Harrison decided to step down from their managerial roles to focus on the development on the new ground and appointed Jason Lanns & Scott Prime as 1st team manager & assistant manager. After a brief spell in charge Jason Lanns & Scott Prime decided to step down from their roles in September 2014. In October 2014 Sporting appointed Mike Pitt, Ian Guy as the new management team and will also be joined by current 1st team coach John Sturmey. During December of 2014 after a serious illness to Mike Pitt, Mark Hopson quickly appointed Andy Paddock as Joint 1st team manager. After a disastrous 1st half of the season which saw the club rooted to the bottom of the league the Appointment of Paddock brought stability to club and team which saw them go on a fantastic run to steer clear of Relegation and finish 16th. During the 2015-2016 Season Sporting saw their FA Vase campaign fall at the first hurdle at home to Hinckley AFC in September. But

following the FA Vase exit Sporting went from strength to strength as Paddock guided Sporting to their highest ever position in the West Midland Regional Premier League finishing in 4th place amassing a total of 77 points and scoring an incredible 130 League goals which saw the club automatically qualify for The FA Cup for the 2016-2017 season for the 1st time in our history. Sporting also reached the League cup final for the 2nd time in their history as they overcame Bromyard Town, Pegasus & Cradley Town in the previous rounds to seal a final date with Smethwick Rangers, However after playing 10 games in 22 days the lads looked physically drained and Smethwick claimed the trophy with a 1-0 victory stopping Sporting from scoring for the First time in 39 games. Sporting also reached the prestigious J W Hunt Cup Final at Molineux Stadium on May 27th 2016 against Sporting Khalsa who play a league higher in the Midland Football League Premier Division and despite taking the lead twice through Josh Sarmento & Daniel Westwood, Sportings hearts were broken as Dave Meese’s 88th

CLUB HISTORY
A
shby Ivanhoe Football Club was founded in 1948 and play their home matches at the NFU Sports Ground, Lower Packington Road, Ashby de la Zouch in Leicestershire. This is the clubs new home from the beginning of the 2012/2013 season. Since being founded in 1948 up until the end of the 2011/2012 season the clubs previous home was at Hood Park also in Ashby de la Zouch. The club currently consists of Two adult teams and Twelve sides in the Junior section. The first team play in the Midland Football League Division One, with the Knights in the Leicestershire Senior League Premier Division. In the 2008/2009 season the club formed a Youth Team (Under 18’s) side who play in the Leicestershire Midweek Floodlit Youth League on Wednesday nights. A Sunday team was reintroduced for this season and they play in the Burton Sunday League Division Four. The club’s junior sides ranging from Under 7’s through to Under 18’s play in the Burton Junior Football League and the Tamworth Junior Football Leagues. The junior section came after the club merged with the David Hunt Soccer School at the beginning of the 2009/2010 season. In February 2004, Ashby Ivanhoe became an FA Charter Standard football club. The club is very ambitious and has plans to progress further up the league pyramid system. The club is run by an experienced management team and enjoys the support of some very prestigious commercial partners. Ashby Ivanhoe had one of their most successful seasons in 2010/11 as they completed a league and cup double by winning the Leicestershire Senior League by nine points and also lifted the Coalville Charity Cup for the very first time after producing a superb second half comeback to beat Bardon Hill 3-2 in the final. They have
also reached successive Leicestershire Senior Cup finals in 2011/2012 and 2012/2013 but had to settle for runners-up on both occasions losing 3-1, firstly to Ibstock United and then Aylestone Park. The 2013/2014 season saw the first team achieve a long-term ambition as they won promotion into the Step 6 of the Pyramid system playing in the East Midlands Counties League for the 2014/2015 season after finishing third place in the Leicestershire Senior League. It was a close title race with the top three all finishing level on points with Ashby third on goal difference. The Reserves were also promoted to the Leicestershire Senior League Division One. 2014/2015 saw Ashby compete at Step 6 for the first time and they had a very good season and secured a top six finish in the East Midlands Counties League which featured victories against all of the sides above them. The Reserve side were involved in a tight title race and it went down to a last day decider against Lutterworth Athletic Reserves but despite the result going against them on the day they were still promoted for the second season in succession and will play at Step 7 in the Leicestershire Senior League Premier Division for 2015/2016. 2015/2016 saw Ashby have another fine season and they mounted a strong title challenge and they led the East Midlands Counties League for the majority of the season before finally finishing in third place. That saw them assured of a first ever appearance in the FA Cup for the 2016/2017 season where the aim again will be to push for promotion to Step 5. The 2016-17 season was the most memorable in the history of Ashby Ivanhoe Football Club. For the very first time in the clubs history they were accepted to play in the most famous club competition in the world, The FA Cup. It turned into a thrilling journey with higher

CLUB HISTORY ranked opponents of Quorn and Loughborough Dynamo knocked out before Ashby fell to Ilkeston in the 1st Qualifying Round. Prior to the Ilkeston defeat Ashby received a visit from the FA Cup which was paraded through the town centre visiting local sponsors before players and spectators had the opportunity to view the cup at the NFU Sports Ground. The league season was inconsistent with a strong finish to the season seeing the team finish in tenth place. The season did end with a first appearance in the final of the Jenkins & Jenkins League Cup but Dunkirk overturned a one goal deficit late on to see Ashby end as runners-up. The 2017-18 season saw the 1st team finish Seventeenth in the East midland Counties and the Reserves finished in the bottom Two and relegation to Division One. 2018-19 saw the 1st team finish in the bottom half of the East Midlands Counties Football League and The Reserves now called the Knights finish runners up in the Senior League Division One and promoted back to step 7 in the Senior League Premier Division. In the 2019-20 season Ashby first team faced a fresh challenge when they were moved to the Midland Premier League Division one by the FA in a shake up of the NLS, the season as we all know was expunged due to the pandemic.
