PRESIDENT CHAT Good afternoon & welcome to The NFU for this afternoon’s game. May I welcome the players & officials of Clifton All Whites to Ashby for what I believe is their first visit to our ground, I hope you enjoy it but don’t leave with the points like our last 2 visitors ! I remember our visit to Clifton earlier in the season mainly because of the Baltic conditions (I honestly don’t think I’ve ever been colder watching a game !) but also because we got royally stuffed so we are hoping for better this afternoon under Andy’s new regime !

Next Saturday Robbie & Paz’s Knights continue their title challenge at home against Earl Shilton Albion at The NFU, it’s also Grand National Day so why not make a day of it and watch the game & the big race afterwards at 5.15pm. The clubhouse really is a great place to be at the moment with 3 sports available to be shown at any one time so it caters for everyone’s tastes. The clubhouse will also be open on the Friday of the Aintree meeting (as it was for Cheltenham) so again come on down for an afternoon your support is much appreciated and any funds raised means we can try to improve our facilities still further. On that subject another date for your diary is our legendary Cup Final Day event. Now incorporating a 5 a side tournament the date is May 18th as always for our events please check our Facebook & Twitter for details & share & retweet if you can as it increases our awareness around the area. As always if you can assist with your time or contacts to improve or contribute to the running of the club we’d love to hear from you !

Last weekend we had our first silverware of the season with Bart’s Under 14’s winning their league cup final with a thumping 5-1 win over Bagthorpe Athletic, congratulations lads, great job !

Finally with 7 league games to go , 3 at home & 4 away we can still make a top half finish, so let’s hope we can progress towards that with a win today, have a good afternoon & enjoy the game.

FIRST TEAM UPDATE Afternoon to you all.

Straight on to last week's performance.

We were below par to say the least and we found ourselves on the end if a very negative result.

Having analysed the game in detail the assessment was that we simply did not apply ourselves in the way that we have of late.

We stopped doing the fundamentals which we have been working on since our arrival and instead adopted a game plan designed purely on reactionary football. Some of the players probably thought that the result would take care of itself and forgot about the process. Perhaps a little carried away with our progression so far.

Having managed for many years this is a familiar problem and one we attempted to put right during training and team meetings this week.

Today we hope to get 'back on track' and trust you enjoy the game and that we provide a positive performance and result.

IN OPPOSITION TODAY Clifton All White FC Clifton All Whites FC is probably amongst the most recognisable Amateur football clubs in the County due to some of it’s more famous past youth team players going on to play at the higher levels of football in this country, and for the infamous ‘All White’ nickname which caused controversy amongst some quarters in the mid-nineties leading to the ‘official’ scrapping of that tag. Players such as Gary Birtles, Jermaine Pennent, Darren Huckerby, Jermaine Jenas, Michael Johnson to name a few have all come through the clubs youth structure over the past years. Clifton FC have also been successful on the pitch, formerly playing in the Midland’s League and Notts Alliance the club also reached the Third Round of the FA Vase in 1975/76. Winning the Senior League Cup in 2006, a year later the Reserves won their first NSL honour gaining the First Division Championship under the guidance of James Turner & Chris Driffill and in 2010 the same management team took the clubs first team to deliver the Senior Division title for the first time in the clubs history. On the back of this success and the development of the Green Lane facility the club decided to make the step up to the CML and hopes the recent progression continues. THE OPPOSITION STAPENHILL They were formed in 1947 and ten years after formation they joined the Leicestershire Senior League Division Two and found immediate success, gaining promotion in their debut season and winning the Division One championship in the following two seasons. They remained in that division, apart from a single season (1971/1972) in Division Two, winning the top flight, now renamed the Premier Division, twice more – 1986/1987 and 1988/1989. They then joined the Midland Combination Premier Division, staying there for five seasons until they became a founding member of the Midland Alliance where they remained until resigning from the league in January 2002. Later that year they joined the Leicestershire Senior League and were promoted as runners-up into the Premier Division. In the 2007/2008 season, they were members of the Midland Football Alliance, but after a fire ravaged their home stadium the club was forced to close down. The club reformed in 2009 and rejoined the Leicestershire Senior League and gained promotion to the EMCL in the 2012/2013 season. ASHBY IVANHOE FC CLUB HISTORY

19 4 8 - 2 01 8

70 YE AR S

The club currently consists of three adult teams and a youth team. The first team play in the East Midlands Counties League, with the Reserves in the Leicestershire Senior League Premier Division. In the 2008/2009 season the club formed a Youth Team (Under 18’s) side who play in the Leicestershire Midweek Floodlit Youth League on Wednesday nights. A Sunday team was re-introduced for this season and they play in the Burton Sunday League Division Four. The club also has a large number of junior sides ranging from Under 7’s through to Under 18’s who play in the Burton Junior Football League, Tamworth Junior Football League and the Derby City League. The junior section came after the club merged with the David Hunt Soccer School at the beginning of the 2009/2010 season. In February 2004, Ashby Ivanhoe became an FA Charter Standard football club. The club is very ambitious and has plans to progress further up the league pyramid system. The club is run by an experienced management team and enjoys the support of some very prestigious commercial partners. Ashby Ivanhoe had one of their most successful seasons in 2010/2011 as they completed a league and cup double by winning the Leicestershire Senior League by nine points and also lifted the Coalville Charity Cup for the very first time after producing a superb second half comeback to beat Bardon Hill 3-2 in the final. They have also reached successive Leicestershire Senior Cup finals in 2011/2012 and 2012/2013 but had to settle for runners-up on both occasions losing 3-1, firstly to Ibstock United and then Aylestone Park. The 2013/2014 season saw the first team achieve a long-term ambition as they won promotion into the Step 6 East Midlands Counties League for the 2014/2015 season after finishing third place in the Leicestershire Senior League. It was a close title race with the top three all finishing level on points with Ashby third on goal difference. The Reserves were also promoted to the Leicestershire Senior League Division One. 2014/2015 saw Ashby compete at Step 6 of the non-league pyramid for the first time and they had a very good season and secured a top six finish in the East Midlands Counties League which featured victories against all of the sides above them. The Reserve side were involved in a tight title race and it went down to a last day decider against Lutterworth Athletic Reserves but despite the result going against them on the day they were still promoted for the second season in succession and would play at Step 7 in the Leicestershire Senior League Premier Division for 2015/2016.

ASHBY IVANHOE FC CLUB HISTORY 2015/2016 saw Ashby have another fine season and they mounted a strong title challenge and they led the East Midlands Counties League for the majority of the season before finally finishing in third place. That saw them assured of a first ever appearance in the FA Cup for the 2016/2017 season. Last season was the most memorable in the history of Ashby Ivanhoe Football Club. For the very first time in the clubs history they were accepted to play in the most famous club competition in the world, The FA Cup. It turned into a thrilling journey with higher ranked opponents of Quorn and Loughborough Dynamo knocked out before Ashby fell to Ilkeston in the 1st Qualifying Round. Prior to the Ilkeston defeat Ashby received a visit from the FA Cup which was paraded through the town centre visiting local sponsors before players and spectators had the opportunity to view the cup at the NFU Sports Ground. The league season was inconsistent with a strong finish to the season seeing the team finish in tenth place. The season did end with a first appearance in the final of the Jenkins & Jenkins League Cup but Dunkirk overturned a one goal deficit late on to see Ashby end as runners-up.
