PRESIDENTS WELCOME Good afternoon & welcome to The NFU for today’s game, with our Chairman away sunning himself it’s left to me to discuss the snow and the rain. What a horrific winter we have had, I have never known so many postponed games & so many of them last minute jobs, when it has been dry all week only for the heavens to open on a Friday or even on a Saturday morning. Anyway it’s been great to get some games played (even if we lost them both) last week and the action certainly comes thick and fast from now until the end of the season. Whilst the fixture congestion is a nuisance and frustrating for everyone, it also has a huge impact on our finances as a club, without games we lose gate receipts and income over the bar and catering so we really appreciate your support over the next few weeks as we have lots of plans for improving the facilities here at the ground for you to enjoy over the coming years. To that end you might have noticed a right mess up in the top corner of the ground, this is to facilitate getting the floodlights powered off the grid and negate the need for a generator and all the hassle and inconsistency that brings. It has served us well over the years but Jon Emerson has worked tirelessly on this project and sorted it superbly, thanks Jon, top work. The fact that our ground has improved over the last few years means that we get to host representative games like the recent Bonser Trophy semi finals, and also we now have the final too, which is fantastic again, well done to all that have made that happen. Finally to show the fragility of local football, we had sad news this week that Blaby & Whetstone FC have folded, we always seemed to have rather er shall we say “competitive” games against them, but they were a well established local club and we have wished their players & officials all the best at a difficult time. This just shows how you need to pull together at local football level and this is what we will continue to do at Ashby Ivanhoe Football Club. Good luck to Craig and Mark & the team today, thank you very much for your support & enjoy the game. Dave Morris Club President

FIRST TEAM UPDATE Hello and welcome to the NFU Sports Ground, home of Ashby Ivanhoe FC. Thank you for all those that have made the trip out to support the team over what is going to be a football filled Bank Holiday weekend for us.
Saturday’s game sees us face Graham St Prims and Bank Holiday Monday we face Stapenhill FC. I look forward to welcoming both team’s officials, players and supporters to the NFU Sports Ground.
Football at this level over the bank holiday weekend naturally brings with it challenges. We have a significant number of players away for these two games and also a suspension to George Wesley who arguably has been critical to our recently improved form. He will be a big miss but I have confidence that whoever gets the opportunity to step in out of our young squad will rise to the occasion.
As I have mentioned previously, we have nurtured a strong group of players who battle and work for each other and never give up. I expect the same from them over this weekend as we look to get two positive results from two very tough games.
Enjoy the game, keep the faith and please be vocal in your support as we look to maintain our recent good form.
Craig Picknell 1st Team Manager

IN OPPOSITION TODAY GRAHAM STREET PRIMS Graham Street Prims were originally founded in 1904, being formed from a primitive Methodist Church from which they derived the name “Prims”. Graham Street itself is actually situated off Osmaston Road in the city of Derby and is close to the Baseball Ground, former home of Derby County until they moved to their new home at Pride Park. Prims were disbanded in 1914 due to the outbreak of the first world war but in the ten year period until that time they boasted several players who went on to play league football, these included the Keetley brothers and Jimmy Bagshaw who eventually went on to play for Notts County and England. Prims were reformed in 1953 and achieved many honours, mainly in the Central Alliance, The East Midlands League and the Derbyshire Senior League. The finest years came between 1971 and 1981 when they won no less than fifteen major honours including seven Derbyshire FA Cup wins and eight League titles. In 1991 Prims were again disbanded due to not having a suitable ground of the required league standard but in 1995 were reformed through a merger with Derby Carriage & Wagon FC. Since reforming, they have been semi-finalists in the Derbyshire Senior Cup, beating Matlock Town on the way and losing to Belper Town 2 -0 in the semi final. They gained promotion from the Premier Division of the Central Midlands League to the Supreme Division, finishing fifth in their first season in the higher division. After suffering four years of continual vandalism at the Railway Ground in Longbridge Lane, Derby and having been relegated for not having floodlights, the club was on the verge of folding once more. But a determined committee met with officials from Borrowash Victoria FC at the Asterdale Sports and Social Club in Spondon and owners of the land, The Heritage Pub Company as a result, a pitch and the promise of a lease was offered. Prims committee met with Officials from the Central Midlands League, led by Mr Frank Harwood, they gave the go-ahead to our new home and work soon started on the ground. New post & rail was erected and new pitch drainage was installed. Re-seeding and verti draining of the pitch has also took place as well as a complete conversion of the old “Band Hut” into a dressing room complex and hospitality suite. Installation of a 2 metre high fence around the perimeter of the pitch with floodlights installed and the siting of a portacabin to provide refreshments for spectators as well as separate toilets also being completed. Raising the money for this operation, which has taken place over a number of years was a mammoth task with fund raising, loans and grants being obtained, this resulted in the club paying out around £90 -100K. In 2008 the Asterdale club closed, this brought about a spate of vandalism, which cost Prims a great deal of time and money which they could ill afford, repairing roof’s replacing glass and removing graffiti etc., eventually new buyers for the sight were found. The new owners, ROSCOM decided they would knock down the old club to build an office block and also promised new facilities for Prims, this is still the aim but an agreement between Roscom and the City Council over the planning application has still to be agreed. The new owner has assured us that they are very keen to keep sport going at the ground and after meeting with them our future looks bright, meanwhile negotiations for a long term lease are ongoing. On the playing side season 2008-2009 saw a new league formed for the East Midlands at step six in the FA Pyramid system, teams primarily from the Central Midlands League, Leicester Senior League and the Notts Alliance was formed with Prims among the teams competing as founder members. We were also joined by our near neighbours, Borrowash Victoria, who left the Northern Counties (East) League to join the East Midlands Counties, ensuring two excellent local derbies in prospect. Our Reserves were placed in the new Central Midlands Supreme Reserve League with our under 18’s side competing in the Derby City League. Wayne Harvey Toon remains as Club Chairman and Ray Garlick has agreed to sponsor maintenance of the ground for three years, resulting in our ground being known as the RAYGAR ARENA.

IN OPPOSITION TODAY Since the highly successful seasons of the 70’s and 80’s progress has been somewhat steady, to say the least, this has been mainly due to us competing with other local sides who are in a position to offer incentives to players, where we are clearly in no position to offer any form of payment. This inability to attract players seeking some form of remuneration caused Prims another problem with managers, resulting in us having EIGHT managers over a period of eighteen years. Most of the Managers over this period had played for Prims at some time and like the rest of the Managers, found difficulty recruiting good quality players. In 2009 Prims appointed Mick Rodgers (who had been very successful with Vics), however he too suffered from the same problem as previous Managers and resigned half way through the season. Prims committee were again forced to advertise in the local press and through various local league websites and after interviewing three candidates, Mark Webster was appointed in December 2009 with the task of keeping Prims in the EMCL. Mark had been very successful with Holbrook MW (now Holbrook Sports), another of Prims local rivals, bringing a wealth of experience he set about his task of bringing some stability to the club. He brought with him Mick Bentley (who had been with Prims previously) and was joined by Tony Collins and Mark Harris who brought their own young Chellaston team to form the nucleus of the Reserves. Because of Prims inability to pay players Mark’s aim was to concentrate mainly on youth. In the 2011-2012 season Ian McAndrew joined Prims from Mickleover Sports as Mark’s assistant. Mark demanded loyalty from everyone at the club including the committee and season 2012-2013 saw his efforts bear fruit with the 1st team reaching the final of the league cup and finishing eighth in the league. The reserves reaching the semi-final of the DFA Divisional cup and finishing fifth in their league and the Youth team finishing runners-up in the Derby City Under 18 league. The club enjoyed a welcome return to the days of the “Community Spirit” which must go down to the discipline Mark has instilled in his players. He was not been frightened to bring young players into the first team, and brought about a very optimistic future for the club. The 2013-2014 season saw a new club structure launched and designed by Tony Collins to bring a more professional look to the committee and throughout the club. With everyone pulling in the right direction, looking to get the dressing room plans sorted the outlook for the club was very bright indeed. In the 2013-2014 season Prims competed in the FA Cup for the first time in their history as well as the FA Vase. This season proved fruitful with a good FA Vase run taking to the 3rd round against Rushden & Diamonds and also saw Prims winner in the League Cup Competition. The following season 2014-2015 saw Mark Webster and Ian McAndrew leave the club 3 weeks before the start of the season, new managers Allan Thorley and Simon Van De Broucke were appointed. They worked hard to keep Prims in the league where we finished 18th. The following season 2015-2016 saw a marked improvement where we finished 11th in the league, despite disappointing Cup runs. The final season that Allan and Simon were managers in 2016-17 was one of troubled times, commitment from players was low and they struggled to gain points and in the end fulfil fixtures, leaving Prims finishing 19th in the league. However on a positive note Prims Under 18s were league Champions and the League Cup winners. Season 2017-18 sees a new management team of Anton Broughton and Matt McCaul join the club, bringing new ideas and players. We are looking forward to a positive season at Prims.

IN OPPOSITION TODAY STAPENHILL Stapenhill FC were formed in 1947 and ten years after formation they joined the Leicestershire Senior League Division Two and found immediate success, gaining promotion in their debut season and winning the Division One championship in the following two seasons. They remained in that division, apart from a single season (1971–72) in Division Two, winning the top flight, now renamed the Premier Division, twice more – 1986–87 and 1988–89. They then joined the Midland Combination Premier Division, staying there for five seasons until they became a founding member of the Midland Alliance where they remained until resigning from the league in January 2002. Later that year Stapenhill FC joined the Leicestershire Senior League and were promoted as runners-up into the Premier Division. In the 2007–08 season, they were members of the Midland Football Alliance, but after a fire ravaged their home stadium, the club was forced to close down. The club reformed in 2009 and rejoined the Leicestershire Senior League. More recently as proud members of the East Midlands Counties Football League Premier Division Stapenhill FC continues to prosper under the guidance of newly appointed Chairman Ian Gough and his dedicated team of players and officials.

The club currently consists of three adult teams and a youth team. The first team play in the East Midlands Counties League, with the Reserves in the Leicestershire Senior League Premier Division. In the 2008/2009 season the club formed a Youth Team (Under 18’s) side who play in the Leicestershire Midweek Floodlit Youth League on Wednesday nights. A Sunday team was re-introduced for this season and they play in the Burton Sunday League Division Four. The club also has a large number of junior sides ranging from Under 7’s through to Under 18’s who play in the Burton Junior Football League, Tamworth Junior Football League and the Derby City League. The junior section came after the club merged with the David Hunt Soccer School at the beginning of the 2009/2010 season. In February 2004, Ashby Ivanhoe became an FA Charter Standard football club. The club is very ambitious and has plans to progress further up the league pyramid system. The club is run by an experienced management team and enjoys the support of some very prestigious commercial partners. Ashby Ivanhoe had one of their most successful seasons in 2010/2011 as they completed a league and cup double by winning the Leicestershire Senior League by nine points and also lifted the Coalville Charity Cup for the very first time after producing a superb second half comeback to beat Bardon Hill 3-2 in the final. They have also reached successive Leicestershire Senior Cup finals in 2011/2012 and 2012/2013 but had to settle for runners-up on both occasions losing 3-1, firstly to Ibstock United and then Aylestone Park. The 2013/2014 season saw the first team achieve a long-term ambition as they won promotion into the Step 6 East Midlands Counties League for the 2014/2015 season after finishing third place in the Leicestershire Senior League. It was a close title race with the top three all finishing level on points with Ashby third on goal difference. The Reserves were also promoted to the Leicestershire Senior League Division One. 2014/2015 saw Ashby compete at Step 6 of the non-league pyramid for the first time and they had a very good season and secured a top six finish in the East Midlands Counties League which featured victories against all of the sides above them. The Reserve side were involved in a tight title race and it went down to a last day decider against Lutterworth Athletic Reserves but despite the result going against them on the day they were still promoted for the second season in succession and would play at Step 7 in the Leicestershire Senior League Premier Division for 2015/2016.

ASHBY IVANHOE FC CLUB HISTORY 2015/2016 saw Ashby have another fine season and they mounted a strong title challenge and they led the East Midlands Counties League for the majority of the season before finally finishing in third place. That saw them assured of a first ever appearance in the FA Cup for the 2016/2017 season. Last season was the most memorable in the history of Ashby Ivanhoe Football Club. For the very first time in the clubs history they were accepted to play in the most famous club competition in the world, The FA Cup. It turned into a thrilling journey with higher ranked opponents of Quorn and Loughborough Dynamo knocked out before Ashby fell to Ilkeston in the 1st Qualifying Round. Prior to the Ilkeston defeat Ashby received a visit from the FA Cup which was paraded through the town centre visiting local sponsors before players and spectators had the opportunity to view the cup at the NFU Sports Ground. The league season was inconsistent with a strong finish to the season seeing the team finish in tenth place. The season did end with a first appearance in the final of the Jenkins & Jenkins League Cup but Dunkirk overturned a one goal deficit late on to see Ashby end as runners-up. The new season sees a new management team at the helm of the club with Glyn Andrews and Craig Picknell joining the club from Friar Lane & Epworth with the aim of achieving promotion to Step 5.
