CHAIRMAN'S WELCOME Good afternoon and welcome to the NFU Sports Ground for today’s game against Coventry Copsewood and may I extend a warm welcome to the players, officials and spectators of Coventry Copsewood who visit us for the first time and hope that we all enjoy a good match.
If we are playing today, it will be as a result of days being spent on the pitch this last week, removing water, forking and sanding which is no mean task when it rains every day and my extended thanks goes to Ian Irving who has yet again stepped up to the plate to work hard to get the game on so thanks Ian your work is very much appreciated as I know how many hours you commit each week to the club.
The first team progressed through the last 16 of the County Cup recently against Asfordby FC in what was a convincing win in the end and ended up a 1-5 victory.
I would like to thank all of our supporters for your continued support of the team both home and away. It gives me great pleasure to see so many of you watching the team and I know that the players are very appreciative too as there’s nothing better than having great support encouraging you from the sidelines.
All that remains is to wish our players well today and hope we all are in for a good game.

FIRST TEAM UPDATE Hello all, Today we are visited by Coventry Copsewood. Welcome to all that have travelled here today. Our defeat to Heath Hayes was disappointing to say the least but the lads recovered to beat NKF Burbage 1-2 in a 'topsy turvy' game. We then dispatched Asfordby 1-5 in the Leicestershire Senior Cup. This was followed by last weeks heavy 4-0 defeat away to Lichfield City. The results so far this season have been inconsistent but this is normal in a new set up with a new group of players. The combination of this and the fact that they are learning new ideas, does take time. That we certainly have and we will continue to move the club forward both on and off the field. Myself and my staff are strengthened by the addition of a new Coach. None other than Benn Minshull who has agreed to join us in this new capacity, whilst his recuperation continues. The new Skipper on the field is Tom Rowell. A player who I have worked with for many seasons and one who will lead by example. I hope you enjoy todays game and that your support continues. IN OPPOSITION TODAY Coventry Copsewood History Founded by the employees of Peel Connor,the club was formed in 1922.The 'Connor' became Magnet F.C. and then in 1934 it became GEC (Cov) F.C. It kept this name until 1988 when the club was then called GPT. This stayed until 1999 when the name changed again to Marconi and the team became Marconi F.C. The final name change came after the business collapse of Marconi. In 2005 the club became Coventry Copsewood F.C. and is part of the Copsewood Sports and Social Club based in Allard Way, Coventry. This is now Copsewood Community Sports & Social Limited. During the 1970's the club won many cup competitions and league honours in local competitions. It won the Coventry Telegraph Cup three years in succession.It also won the Birmingham Junior Cup twice. In 1993 the club applied to join the Midland Football Combination. In the first three seasons the club finished 5th but gained promotion to Division One because of its excellent facilities. In the 1996-1997 season the club did the League and Cup double in Division One and the managers Ashley Alexander and Jez O'Neill won the Manager of the Year award. In 1998-1999 the club purchased floodlights from Mangotsfield Town and club members up-rated and erected them so that the team could play under them. The club finished 8th in 1998-99 and 4th in 1999-2000.The club were Premier Division runner up in 2003/04 and third in 2004/05.They also won the Coventry Charity Cup four times. In 2006/07 the club battled through winning the Midland Combination Challenge Cup.. From 2012 Darren Dickson has held the position of overall manager. He has resigned to undergo a double hip replacement. He is succeeded by Joe Connelly and Neil Collett as joint mangers of the First Team.

ASHBY KNIGHTS UPDATE First of all I would like to wish Andy and the lads all the best for today’s game. The knights have had a couple of weeks without a game in the league due to the poor weather conditions. However the last time out in the league we had a fantastic 3-1 win against County Hall who we had two very good games against last season. The lads showed fantastic character and played some of the best football we’ve played all season and fully deserved the win. Since that game we had the long trip to Cottesmore in the league cup with a few players out due to injury and illness including the gaffer. So I’d like to thank the lads and Paz for their efforts even though we didn’t get the result we wanted. This weekend sees us up against Rugby Borough who have started the season very well and we know it will be a tough game but we are very confident as they also play on a 3G which suits our style of play. Ashby Ivanhoe Football Club was founded in 1948 and play their home matches at the NFU Sports Ground, Lower Packington Road, Ashby de la Zouch in Leicestershire. This is the clubs new home from the beginning of the 2012/2013 season. Since being founded in 1948 up until the end of the 2011/2012 season the clubs previous home was at Hood Park also in Ashby de la Zouch.

The club currently consists of three adult teams and a youth team. The first team play in the Midland Football League Division 1, with the Knights in the Leicestershire Senior League Premier Division. The club also has a large number of junior sides ranging from Under 7’s through to Under 18’s who play in the Burton Junior Football League, Tamworth Junior Football League and the Derby City League. The junior section came after the club merged with the David Hunt Soccer School at the beginning of the 2009/2010 season. In February 2004, Ashby Ivanhoe became an FA Charter Standard football club. The club is very ambitious and has plans to progress further up the league pyramid system. The club is run by an experienced management team and enjoys the support of some very prestigious commercial partners. Ashby Ivanhoe had one of their most successful seasons in 2010/11 as they completed a league and cup double by winning the Leicestershire Senior League by nine points and also lifted the Coalville Charity Cup for the very first time after producing a superb second half comeback to beat Bardon Hill 3-2 in the final. They have also reached successive Leicestershire Senior Cup finals in 2011/2012 and 2012/2013 but had to settle for runnersup on both occasions losing 3-1, firstly to Ibstock United and then Aylestone Park. The 2013/2014 season saw the first team achieve a long-term ambition as they won promotion into the Step 6 East Midlands Counties League for the 2014/2015 season after finishing third place in the Leicestershire Senior League. It was a close title race with the top three all finishing level on points with Ashby third on goal difference. The Reserves were also promoted to the Leicestershire Senior League Division One. 2014/2015 saw Ashby compete at Step 6 of the non-league pyramid for the first time and they had a very good season and secured a top six finish in the East Midlands Counties League which featured victories against all of the sides above them. They were formed in 1947 and ten years after formation they joined the Leicestershire Senior League Division Two and found immediate success, gaining promotion in their debut season and winning the Division One championship in the following two seasons. They remained in that division, apart from a single season (1971/1972) in Division Two, winning the top flight, now renamed the Premier Division, twice more – 1986/1987 and 1988/1989. They then joined the Midland Combination Premier Division, staying there for five seasons until they became a founding member of the Midland Alliance where they remained until resigning from the league in January 2002. ASHBY IVANHOE FC CLUB HISTORY Athletic Reserves but despite the result going against them on the day they were still promoted for the second season in succession and will play at Step 7 in the Leicestershire Senior League Premier Division for 2015/2016. 2015/2016 saw Ashby have another fine season and they mounted a strong title challenge and they led the East Midlands Counties League for the majority of the season before finally finishing in third place. That saw them assured of a first ever appearance in the FA Cup for the 2016/2017 season where the aim again will be to push for promotion to Step 5. The 2016-17 season was the most memorable in the history of Ashby Ivanhoe Football Club. For the very first time in the clubs history they were accepted to play in the most famous club competition in the world, The FA Cup. It turned into a thrilling journey with higher ranked opponents of Quorn and Loughborough Dynamo knocked out before Ashby fell to Ilkeston in the 1st Qualifying Round. Prior to the Ilkeston defeat Ashby received a visit from the FA Cup which was paraded through the town centre visiting local sponsors before players and spectators had the opportunity to view the cup at the NFU Sports Ground. The league season was inconsistent with a strong finish to the season seeing the team finish in tenth place. The season did end with a first appearance in the final of the Jenkins & Jenkins League Cup but Dunkirk overturned a one goal deficit late on to see Ashby end as runners-up.
