CHAIRMAN'S WELCOME Good afternoon and welcome to today’s first team game against our visitors Kiimberley Miners Welfare FC and my I extend a warm welcome to the players, officials and supporters of Kimberley and hope we all enjoy a good game.

Firstly, I believe it is only right that on behalf of Ashby Ivanhoe FC and all people involved in football that we pass on our most sincere condolence to the family of Emiliano Sala, who as you will now be aware sadly died when the plane, he was travelling on crashed and his body was recovered on Thursday. It is only appropriate that we mark this with a minute’s silence ahead of todays game and ask that you all observe this.

The players seem to have responded well to the new management team and the message seems to be getting across about the plans for this season and into next and I am confident that Andy and his team will be pushing us forward in the coming seasons and hopefully to a place where we believe we can compete. One of the pleasing things is the relationship that is growing between the Knights management and the first team and I know that Andy is keen to ensure that his message forms the foundations of player development from our youth players up and in a few weeks, Andy will be meeting the Coaches of the Youth and Junior teams to both introduce himself and share his thoughts on player development at the club and to ensure we retain the best of what we currently developing and give them their opportunity in senior football as this is proven to be the right and most sustainable way.

The works continue around the ground as you may have seen, and my thanks go to Stephen Stewart of Oak Green Design and Construct Ltd for their contribution to the recent window installation and to Tommy Watson for his work in fitting them. The new catering unit is taking shape and my thanks go to Neil Crowder for his fantastic work so far. One side of the unit will see the new catering unit and the other side will be our very own boot room/club shop where you will be able to buy official clubwear and where young players can buy nearly new boots.

As always, the relentless work that Ian Irving puts in around the ground is paying dividends and he has been working hard again on the pitch to ensure todays game goes ahead after a spell of wet weather.

All that remains is to wish the players the best of luck in today’s game and let’s keep on a winning streak and moving forward.

Regards

Stuart Bonser Club Chairman

FIRST TEAM UPDATE Hello and welcome to you all. The recent weather put an end to our fixture last Saturday as we hoped to build on the win against Borrowash. The lads have trained well under the circumstances and their efforts and enthusiasm have been commendable. The 2-0 victory was well deserved and perhaps should have been by a greater margin. However, our main objective was to see how my players reacted to the new playing ethic which we have introduced, and how they apply this during a match scenario. It was a decent effort in my opinion and one in which we will improve on in the coming weeks, months, and years. Today will see a very different line up as we assess all the current players over the coming games. As I mentioned previously, this has to be the main concentration as we move forward. That being said, we're also looking to add more quality as we progress, and there have been a number of new signings too, who you will see in the coming weeks. I know these players will add to the quality, already present at the club. Today we welcome Kimberley M.W to the NFU, and hope they enjoy their day here. As always, thank you for your continued support and hope you too enjoy your day. Hopefully a little more than the travelling support. Andy Gray 1st Team Manager FIRST TEAM UPDATE SPONSORED BY

IN OPPOSITION TODAY Kimberley Miners Welfare Football Club Kimberley Miners Welfare Football Club was formed in 1926, one year after the opening of the Miners Welfare. Early years was spent playing at the Mill Field, approx 1⁄2 mile North of Digby Street. In 1932 KMWFC moved to the new recreation ground, Digby Street, situated adjacent to Digby Colliery and its cricket ground. Initially, Digby Street was solely a playing field with teams changing in Tommy Bird’s (pronounced Tommy Bod’s, in the local dialect) front room. It was a lengthy walk, for players and officials to Digby Street, because Tommy lived in a house supplied for workers, on site, at the Giltbrook Leather Works. In the late 1950s, changing facilities moved, to the Miners Welfare Bowling Alley underneath the building, which meant an even longer walk for players and officials! KMWFC have played at Digby Street for 81 years but, it hasn’t been continuous. The club played at the Wolsey Sports Ground for 1 season, 1974/75 (situated were Sainsbury’s Car Park now is, in Kimberley Town Centre), because the construction of the new A610 Eastwood & Kimberley Bypass took away part of the ground and made it unusable. 1982 was a key year in the history of the club as the present chairman Neil Johnson took on the role of chairman from his father. It wasn’t until the 1995/6 season that changing facilities were provided on the ground. A £7,500 grant from the National Lottery, and an equivalent generous donation from Chairman Neil Johnson, enabled the club to buy, transport and put up the unwanted changing rooms from Calverton Cricket Club. This was around the time of the clubs most successful period on the pitch The joint management of Alf Stacey & Steve Towle took charge in the early 2000s. The pair resigned a few years later when Kimberley then turned back to the successful George Hulley who remained in charge until 2014 standing down following the clubs best season in a decade, finishing runners up in the Notts Senior League and gaining promotion to the East Midland Counties League, the highest level the football club have ever played at. Since 2014 over the years KMW have had various managers such as Paul Rawden , Dino Labbate , Brian Franks, Malc Burton, Tony Hemmings. Despite a positive start results turned and club parted company with Hemmings. Club Captain Martin Lench was appointed as Manager along side the long serving Andy Miller until the end of the season. The duo retained the clubs EMCL Status. In June 2016 Welfare announced the appointment of Ian Deakin and Martin Lench followed the following year by Andy Alls, Luke and John Humphreys. Finishing in 8thplace securing FA Cup Football for the first time in the clubs history. Deakin stood down at the end of the season and the club moved to appoint the experienced team of Andy Alls, Luke Humphries and John Humphries to lead the club into the new season. This season Luke and John Hunphreys have remained being joined by Marko Markelic, Nick Fairbrother and Mick Malia.

ASHBY KNIGHTS UPDATE Firstly I would like to wish Andy and the lads all the best for their game this afternoon.

With the Knights not having a game for a few weeks it was pleasing to get back out there and play last weekend and also come away with a win in a tough game. The lads came up against a very well drilled and organised Magna 73 side.

We went into half time the better side but we were level at 0-0 and we were finding it hard to break down their defence but Andy Hulley came off the bench and scored the winner in the 89 minute to secure all 3 points and another clean sheet. This result now means we are sitting nicely in second place with only a 4 point gap between us and Wymeswold.

This weekend we are away against Anstey Town and will be looking for another win and keep the pressure on Wymeswold.

THE OPPOSITION STAPENHILL They were formed in 1947 and ten years after formation they joined the Leicestershire Senior League Division Two and found immediate success, gaining promotion in their debut season and winning the Division One championship in the following two seasons. They remained in that division, apart from a single season (1971/1972) in Division Two, winning the top flight, now renamed the Premier Division, twice more – 1986/1987 and 1988/1989. They then joined the Midland Combination Premier Division, staying there for five seasons until they became a founding member of the Midland Alliance where they remained until resigning from the league in January 2002. Later that year they joined the Leicestershire Senior League and were promoted as runners-up into the Premier Division. In the 2007/2008 season, they were members of the Midland Football Alliance, but after a fire ravaged their home stadium the club was forced to close down. The club reformed in 2009 and rejoined the Leicestershire Senior League and gained promotion to the EMCL in the 2012/2013 season. ASHBY IVANHOE FC CLUB HISTORY

19 4 8 - 2 01 8

70 YE AR S

The club currently consists of three adult teams and a youth team. The first team play in the East Midlands Counties League, with the Reserves in the Leicestershire Senior League Premier Division. In the 2008/2009 season the club formed a Youth Team (Under 18’s) side who play in the Leicestershire Midweek Floodlit Youth League on Wednesday nights. A Sunday team was re-introduced for this season and they play in the Burton Sunday League Division Four. The club also has a large number of junior sides ranging from Under 7’s through to Under 18’s who play in the Burton Junior Football League, Tamworth Junior Football League and the Derby City League. The junior section came after the club merged with the David Hunt Soccer School at the beginning of the 2009/2010 season. In February 2004, Ashby Ivanhoe became an FA Charter Standard football club. The club is very ambitious and has plans to progress further up the league pyramid system. The club is run by an experienced management team and enjoys the support of some very prestigious commercial partners. Ashby Ivanhoe had one of their most successful seasons in 2010/2011 as they completed a league and cup double by winning the Leicestershire Senior League by nine points and also lifted the Coalville Charity Cup for the very first time after producing a superb second half comeback to beat Bardon Hill 3-2 in the final. They have also reached successive Leicestershire Senior Cup finals in 2011/2012 and 2012/2013 but had to settle for runners-up on both occasions losing 3-1, firstly to Ibstock United and then Aylestone Park. The 2013/2014 season saw the first team achieve a long-term ambition as they won promotion into the Step 6 East Midlands Counties League for the 2014/2015 season after finishing third place in the Leicestershire Senior League. It was a close title race with the top three all finishing level on points with Ashby third on goal difference. The Reserves were also promoted to the Leicestershire Senior League Division One. 2014/2015 saw Ashby compete at Step 6 of the non-league pyramid for the first time and they had a very good season and secured a top six finish in the East Midlands Counties League which featured victories against all of the sides above them. The Reserve side were involved in a tight title race and it went down to a last day decider against Lutterworth Athletic Reserves but despite the result going against them on the day they were still promoted for the second season in succession and would play at Step 7 in the Leicestershire Senior League Premier Division for 2015/2016.

ASHBY IVANHOE FC CLUB HISTORY 2015/2016 saw Ashby have another fine season and they mounted a strong title challenge and they led the East Midlands Counties League for the majority of the season before finally finishing in third place. That saw them assured of a first ever appearance in the FA Cup for the 2016/2017 season. Last season was the most memorable in the history of Ashby Ivanhoe Football Club. For the very first time in the clubs history they were accepted to play in the most famous club competition in the world, The FA Cup. It turned into a thrilling journey with higher ranked opponents of Quorn and Loughborough Dynamo knocked out before Ashby fell to Ilkeston in the 1st Qualifying Round. Prior to the Ilkeston defeat Ashby received a visit from the FA Cup which was paraded through the town centre visiting local sponsors before players and spectators had the opportunity to view the cup at the NFU Sports Ground. The league season was inconsistent with a strong finish to the season seeing the team finish in tenth place. The season did end with a first appearance in the final of the Jenkins & Jenkins League Cup but Dunkirk overturned a one goal deficit late on to see Ashby end as runners-up.
