CHAIRMAN'S WELCOME Good afternoon and welcome to the NFU Sports Ground for today’s game against Nuneaton Griff FC and may I extend a warm welcome to the players, officials and spectators of Nuneaton Griff FC who visit us for the first time and hope that we all enjoy a good match. If we are playing today, it will be as a result of days being spent on the pitch this last week, removing water, forking and sanding which is no mean task when it rains every day and my extended thanks goes to Ian Irving who has yet again stepped up to the plate to work hard to get the game on so thanks Ian your work is very much appreciated as I know how many hours you commit each week to the club. The first team progressed through the last 16 of the County Cup recently against Asfordby FC in what was a convincing win in the end and ended up a 1-5 victory. I would like to thank all of our supporters for your continued support of the team both home and away. It gives me great pleasure to see so many of you watching the team and I know that the players are very appreciative too as there’s nothing better than having great support encouraging you from the sidelines. The club will, yet again, be part of the parade for the memorial service tomorrow – Sunday 10th November and we will be laying a wreath on behalf of the club, which will also be used as part of the minutes silence at today’s game. It is a really special event and one that the club is proud to be part of and if you would like to be part of the parade then please let me know. All that remains is to wish our players well today and hope we all are in for a good game. Stuart Bonser Club Chairman Ps – if you are visiting the ground by car please DO NOT OBSTRUCT the junction to Cambrian Way by parking on the grass/path verge as this is both dangerous and you could get a fixed penalty notice from the Council and or Police. vs Nuneaton Griff | Saturday 9th November 2019 | www.ashbyivanhoefc.com

FIRST TEAM UPDATE Hello all, Today we are visited by Nuneaton Griff. Welcome to all that have travelled here today. Last weeks game v Paget Rangers was postponed due to the weather but we have played four times since my last notes. I was unfortunately away for two games. Our defeat to Heath Hayes was disappointing to say the least but the lads recovered to beat NKF Burbage 1-2 in a 'topsy turvy' game. We then dispatched Asfordby 1-5 in the Leicestershire Senior Cup. This was followed by last weeks heavy 4-0 defeat away to Lichfield City. The results so far this season have been inconsistant but this is normal in a new set up with a new group of players. The combination of this and the fact that they are learning new ideas, does take time. That we certainly have and we will continue to move the club forward both on and off the field. Myself and my staff are strengthened by the addition of a new Coach. None other than Benn Minshull who has agreed to join us in this new capacity, whilst his recouperation continues. The new Skipper on the field is Tom Rowell. A player who i have worked with for many seasons and one who will lead by example. I hope you enjoy todays game and that your support continues. Thanks to you all. Regards Andy Gray FIRST TEAM UPDATE SPONSORED BY

IN OPPOSITION TODAY Nuneaton Amateurs History The club was originally founded in 1972 as Nuneaton Amateurs when a dispute at the well-known Co-op Sports F.C. lead to many members moving to the Nuneaton Griff and Coton Miners Welfare Ground. Nine players and officials paid ÂŁ1 each to start the new club and former Rugby Town, Lockheed Leamington and Bedworth Town player Colin Wetton became the first manager with Colin Rathbone as Chairman and Derek Brown, Treasurer. Defeating Jet Blades 2-1 away in their first-ever game, the Amateurs were denied a championship success in their first season when opponents did not turn up for a late-season replayed game and the Coventry and North Warwickshire League decided there was not time to fit in another match. In the Birmingham Junior Cup there were two notable scalps as Kingswinford and Solihull Borough were defeated and the Amateurs finished a fine season by annexing the Coventry Telegraph Cup. The club was accepted into the Coventry and Alliance Suburban League Premier Two and a another superb season saw them promoted into the top Division where they more than held their own and Derek Brown gained representative honours for the League side. May 1975 saw the end of the Colin Wetton era but the now Nuneaton Griff went on to gain many honours until there followed a bleak spell of fortune leading to relegation. During the mid 1980s the present Chairman, John Gore took charge of team affairs. He was successful in arresting the slide and turning Griff into a powerful Coventry Alliance outfit. On retiring in 1996 he made the best decision in the clubs history, persuading the then 34 year-old Mark Green to come out of retirement. Green totally transformed the club as Nuneaton Griff FC swept all before them in the Coventry Alliance, just as he had done previously with his former club Arley WMC
FC. In 1998-99 the decision was made to apply for membership of the Midland Football Combination. The club was placed controversially in the Premier Division but the Heartlanders, under manager Mark Green, repaid that faith by winning the Championship in their initial season and then made it a double the following season 2000/2001 and also added the Endsleigh Challenge Cup for good measure. In the process they made history by winning the latter at Villa Park and the following night annexing the Coventry Telegraph Cup at Highfield Road, Coventry to become the only club to play two finals on consecutive days on two different Premiership grounds and win both times. Since then the club has consolidated in the Premier Division and enjoyed a period of growth on and off the field. A series of managers have come and gone and most have left their mark as the club has given many local players from the successful youth section their first steps on the football ladder. In recent years the Farmer family has been a tower of strength with Steve being manager for four seasons from 2007 and then elder brother John took over in 2011. After stepping down two seasons later he returned at the beginning of the 2016-17 season following the one season tenure of Charlie Reardon during which the club reached the last eight in the F.A. Vase and set a new record crowd for the Pingles Stadium of 870! As a purely amateur club Griff rely on local youngsters and John Farmer was the ideal man to have in charge but in September 2017 he stepped down and Courtney Belford was appointed in his place. A year later he in turn resigned and Brett Clark took over. Clark resigned on Christmas Eve 2018 and former Rugby Town and Chasetown manager Dave Stringer was appointed in his place. Griff retained their place in Division One for season 2019-20 and local cousins and former players Adam and Iain Green were appointed as joint managers.

ASHBY IVANHOE FC CLUB HISTORY

70 YE AR S
The club currently consists of three adult teams and a youth team. The first team play in the Midland Football League Division 1, with the Knights in the Leicestershire Senior League Premier Division. The club also has a large number of junior sides ranging from Under 7’s through to Under 18’s who play in the Burton Junior Football League, Tamworth Junior Football League and the Derby City League. The junior section came after the club merged with the David Hunt Soccer School at the beginning of the 2009/2010 season. In February 2004, Ashby Ivanhoe became an FA Charter Standard football club. The club is very ambitious and has plans to progress further up the league pyramid system. The club is run by an experienced management team and enjoys the support of some very prestigious commercial partners. Ashby Ivanhoe had one of their most successful seasons in 2010/11 as they completed a league and cup double by winning the Leicestershire Senior League by nine points and also lifted the Coalville Charity Cup for the very first time after producing a superb second half comeback to beat Bardon Hill 3-2 in the final. They have also reached successive Leicestershire Senior Cup finals in 2011/2012 and 2012/2013 but had to settle for runnersup on both occasions losing 3-1, firstly to Ibstock United and then Aylestone Park. The 2013/2014 season saw the first team achieve a long-term ambition as they won promotion into the Step 6 East Midlands Counties League for the 2014/2015 season after finishing third place in the Leicestershire Senior League. It was a close title race with the top three all finishing level on points with Ashby third on goal difference. The Reserves were also promoted to the Leicestershire Senior League Division One. 2014/2015 saw Ashby compete at Step 6 of the non-league pyramid for the first time and they had a very good season and secured a top six finish in the East Midlands Counties League which featured victories against all of the sides above them. The Reserve side were involved in a tight title race and it went down to a last day decider against Lutterworth vs Nuneaton Griff | Saturday 9th November 2019 | www.ashbyivanhoefc.com

ASHBY IVANHOE FC CLUB HISTORY Athletic Reserves but despite the result going against them on the day they were still promoted for the second season in succession and will play at Step 7 in the Leicestershire Senior League Premier Division for 2015/2016. 2015/2016 saw Ashby have another fine season and they mounted a strong title challenge and they led the East Midlands Counties League for the majority of the season before finally finishing in third place. That saw them assured of a first ever appearance in the FA Cup for the 2016/2017 season where the aim again will be to push for promotion to Step 5. The 2016-17 season was the most memorable in the history of Ashby Ivanhoe Football Club. For the very first time in the clubs history they were accepted to play in the most famous club competition in the world, The FA Cup. It turned into a thrilling journey with higher ranked opponents of Quorn and Loughborough Dynamo knocked out before Ashby fell to Ilkeston in the 1st Qualifying Round. Prior to the Ilkeston defeat Ashby received a visit from the FA Cup which was paraded through the town centre visiting local sponsors before players and spectators had the opportunity to view the cup at the NFU Sports Ground. The league season was inconsistent with a strong finish to the season seeing the team finish in tenth place. The season did end with a first appearance in the final of the Jenkins & Jenkins League Cup but Dunkirk overturned a one goal deficit late on to see Ashby end as runners-up.
