CHAIRMANS WELCOME Good evening and welcome to tonight’s game against our visitors Newark Flowserve FC and may I take this opportunity to officially welcome the players, officials and supporters of Newark Flowserve FC, who visit the NFU Sports Ground for the first time.

The team should be in a confident mood after an away win on Saturday against Teversal FC and hope they can continue with their winning ways tonight.

The Knights also came out winners on Saturday with a pleasing 3-0 win over Magana and take their form away this Saturday to Wymeswold FC.

The club has just installed SKY SPORTS into the Clubroom as part of our re-vamp strategy and this will allow us to widen our offering to the Community as we aim to open the clubroom every day and more details to follow. We are gearing up for an official OPENING DAY on Sunday 28th October and please keep you eyes on Social Media for all of the details.

Over the past few weeks it has been really pleasing that visiting teams, supporters and officials, as well as members of the Community have commented on what a nice facility and experience we have created here at the ground and this is testament to the, yet again, committed VOLUNTEERS, who put hours and hours of their own FREE time into making the facility the best it can with the resources it has available. If you or anyone else you know would like to offer any support, help or time to our ever expanding club then do come forward and lend a hand.

Additionally, if you have views on how we operate the club then we are all ears, good or bad, and if you want to share these in the right arena then we would love to hear from you and are always open to ways that we can improve the experience we offer. As I have said on many occasions, we want people who can ADD VALUE and help us improve as a club, we may not always get things right but we have a desire to improve always and your suggestions would be welcome as always.

All that remains is to wish the team well tonight and hope you all enjoy the game.

Regards

Stuart Bonser Club Chairman

FIRST TEAM UPDATE Hello and welcome to the NFU, home of Ashby Ivanhoe FC. I was really pleased with the good feedback that the team has been receiving over the past couple of weeks. Our spirited performance in the eventual 3-4 loss against Sherwood Collery 2 weeks ago, a team unbeaten so far in the league, was warming. It is fair to say we are competing with the best teams in the league and we aren’t far off beating them. In order to do that we need to learn how to be more disciplined in our performances. If we are scoring 3 goals we simply shouldn’t be losing the game. We play an expansive game but we need to bring some balance into our game. If we keep a clean sheet in a game then I will always back us to win it. On Saturday we played Teversal. The conditions were simply awful and made it difficult to play for both sides. Ironically, we played our best football in the first half against the wind but found ourselves 1-0 down following a ‘gift’. To be fair to the lads, we continued to play and got the equaliser just before half time. We got the second and eventual winner straight after half time. From there we tired and got sloppy, resorting to long balls, which anyone who has watched us regularly will tell you, never ends well for us. We do our best work when we shorten up the passes and play through the thirds. Tonight, will be our toughest game so far this season. They are a good side, well drilled and organised. We will need to be at our best. Rather frustratingly I am having to name a much-changed squad tonight due to work commitments from a number of the lads. This will give a much deserved opportunities to those lads from the Knights team who have been fantastic so far this year. As with all our games, it is our intention to go out with attacking intent. Enjoy the game, keep the faith and please be vocal in your support. Craig Picknell 1st Team Manager

IN OPPOSITION TODAY Newark Flowserve

Founded in 1901 as J Simpson and co., the football club began life in the Newark Ironmongers’ League; whilst no records survive from those early days, it is known that in 1935 the club, now known as WORTHINGTON SIMPSON, entered the Nottingham Spartan League. After back-to-back championships SIMMO’S joined the Notts Alliance League in 1949, going on to win the league title in the 52/53 and 65/66 seasons. The Notts Alliance Senior Cup brought the greatest success, the first in the 69/70 season - with the trophy returning to Newark no less than 4 more times in seasons 71/72, 80/81, 88/89 and 98/99.

Following name changes in the late 90s, first to IDP and then to FLOWSERVE, and a mere 103 years of football SIMMO’S (as the club is known locally) entered the first level of the FA’s national pyramid by joining the Central Midlands League Premier Division. Following a short break the team reformed in 2013, finishing a credible 3rd in the Notts Senior League Division Two, thereby securing promotion to Notts Senior League Division One. Another successful campaign followed in 14/15 saw the team finish runners-up, gaining promotion to the Notts Senior League Premier Division and taking the team back to Step 7 football. 2017/2018 season saw a reserve side join the NSL in division two.

Our management team of Craig Roche, Stephen Kirkham along with coaches Danny Purves and Andrew Nicholson (goalkeeping coach) are hoping for a positive campaign this season after the astonishing successes of last season.

Last term the Highwaymen won the league and cup double in magnificent style, finishing a remarkable 25 points clear of runners-up Awsworth Villa, and winning the Notts Senior League Senior Cup at a canter on their opponents’ home ground.

An FA Charter Standard Club we boast junior, youth and senior teams playing on Saturdays and Sundays; we are extremely proud to promote football participation for ages 3 to 35+, across Newark, the surrounding district and Nottinghamshire.

ASHBY KNIGHTS UPDATE Firstly I want to wish Craig and the lads all the best for tonights game.

Another cracking performance for the Knights on Saturday as we beat Magna 73 who were unbeaten in the league. We dominated the game from start to finish and yet again played some brilliant football. Me and Andy were delighted that we maintained our fantastic form in the league with a 3-0 victory and most pleasingly another clean sheet. Another pleasing thing for me was how the lads went about their jobs with some of them playing out of position due to one of our players pulling up in the warm up so we had to make a few changes. We also lost one of our defenders early on due to a very late challenge but the boys stuck together and played very well.

Looking forward we have our biggest test yet on saturday with an away trip to play Wymeswold who the same as us are yet to taste defeat so it should be a good game and with the first team not having a game it would be nice to get as much support as possible. If we manage to be them then we will go top with a game in hand which would be fantastic.

THE OPPOSITION STAPENHILL They were formed in 1947 and ten years after formation they joined the Leicestershire Senior League Division Two and found immediate success, gaining promotion in their debut season and winning the Division One championship in the following two seasons. They remained in that division, apart from a single season (1971/1972) in Division Two, winning the top flight, now renamed the Premier Division, twice more – 1986/1987 and 1988/1989. They then joined the Midland Combination Premier Division, staying there for five seasons until they became a founding member of the Midland Alliance where they remained until resigning from the league in January 2002. Later that year they joined the Leicestershire Senior League and were promoted as runners-up into the Premier Division. In the 2007/2008 season, they were members of the Midland Football Alliance, but after a fire ravaged their home stadium the club was forced to close down. The club reformed in 2009 and rejoined the Leicestershire Senior League and gained promotion to the EMCL in the 2012/2013 season. ASHBY IVANHOE FC CLUB HISTORY

19 4 8 - 2 01 8

70 YE AR S

The club currently consists of three adult teams and a youth team. The first team play in the East Midlands Counties League, with the Reserves in the Leicestershire Senior League Premier Division. In the 2008/2009 season the club formed a Youth Team (Under 18’s) side who play in the Leicestershire Midweek Floodlit Youth League on Wednesday nights. A Sunday team was re-introduced for this season and they play in the Burton Sunday League Division Four. The club also has a large number of junior sides ranging from Under 7’s through to Under 18’s who play in the Burton Junior Football League, Tamworth Junior Football League and the Derby City League. The junior section came after the club merged with the David Hunt Soccer School at the beginning of the 2009/2010 season. In February 2004, Ashby Ivanhoe became an FA Charter Standard football club. The club is very ambitious and has plans to progress further up the league pyramid system. The club is run by an experienced management team and enjoys the support of some very prestigious commercial partners. Ashby Ivanhoe had one of their most successful seasons in 2010/2011 as they completed a league and cup double by winning the Leicestershire Senior League by nine points and also lifted the Coalville Charity Cup for the very first time after producing a superb second half comeback to beat Bardon Hill 3-2 in the final. They have also reached successive Leicestershire Senior Cup finals in 2011/2012 and 2012/2013 but had to settle for runners-up on both occasions losing 3-1, firstly to Ibstock United and then Aylestone Park. The 2013/2014 season saw the first team achieve a long-term ambition as they won promotion into the Step 6 East Midlands Counties League for the 2014/2015 season after finishing third place in the Leicestershire Senior League. It was a close title race with the top three all finishing level on points with Ashby third on goal difference. The Reserves were also promoted to the Leicestershire Senior League Division One. 2014/2015 saw Ashby compete at Step 6 of the non-league pyramid for the first time and they had a very good season and secured a top six finish in the East Midlands Counties League which featured victories against all of the sides above them. The Reserve side were involved in a tight title race and it went down to a last day decider against Lutterworth Athletic Reserves but despite the result going against them on the day they were still promoted for the second season in succession and would play at Step 7 in the Leicestershire Senior League Premier Division for 2015/2016.

ASHBY IVANHOE FC CLUB HISTORY 2015/2016 saw Ashby have another fine season and they mounted a strong title challenge and they led the East Midlands Counties League for the majority of the season before finally finishing in third place. That saw them assured of a first ever appearance in the FA Cup for the 2016/2017 season. Last season was the most memorable in the history of Ashby Ivanhoe Football Club. For the very first time in the clubs history they were accepted to play in the most famous club competition in the world, The FA Cup. It turned into a thrilling journey with higher ranked opponents of Quorn and Loughborough Dynamo knocked out before Ashby fell to Ilkeston in the 1st Qualifying Round. Prior to the Ilkeston defeat Ashby received a visit from the FA Cup which was paraded through the town centre visiting local sponsors before players and spectators had the opportunity to view the cup at the NFU Sports Ground. The league season was inconsistent with a strong finish to the season seeing the team finish in tenth place. The season did end with a first appearance in the final of the Jenkins & Jenkins League Cup but Dunkirk overturned a one goal deficit late on to see Ashby end as runners-up.
