CHAIRMANS WELCOME Good evening and welcome to tonight’s match against our visitors Belper Town FC and may I extend a warm welcome to the players, officials and spectators of Belper Town FC and hope that we all enjoy a good match. As the Chairman of the football club you are often presented with challenges and people often look towards you for solutions to varying matters. We all know the challenge that we were facing at the start of the season following the seemingly mass exodus of players and coaches from the club in May. This was started, I guess, by my decision to not support the previous management team with a player budget and I stood firm on my position regarding attracting players for the right reasons and not because they were being paid to turn up. This decision presented us with a new challenge as a club as we have almost had to start a new team from scratch. However, we now have a group of players that are learning to play together for the first time and this takes time as anyone who knows football will understand. For those of you that have watched the away games at Clifton All Whites, Anstey and the game last weekend at Holbrook, you will have seen that we were in fact the better footballing team. However, the results have presented the opportunity for people to challenge “what is going off” and the usual calls to knee jerk about making decisions following a defeat. The club adopted a plan and it was quite simple for the new management team to follow and it was to equal last years’ position in the league and if we can go one better then that would-be progress. Additionally, it was to galvanise the management team of the Under 15’s, 16’s 18’s, reserves and first team in order to ensure that we are developing the youth players at the club to one day feature for the Seniors and for anyone that, again, knows anything about football, will take time but I for one am happy that this remains our plan and that we are going to be stronger club in the future for it and not be a one season wonder club that thinks throwing money around or winning silverware for one season only is progress. In my eyes that is simply un-sustainable and whilst we have the plan in place we will not be making knee jerk reactions. The players at the club need to grow in confidence granted, the results need to improve, agreed, but knee jerking after every game does not help anyone and as such we will continue to develop the club for the long term and not the short. If anyone would like to speak with me personally about the plan for the club on the field, as well anything we are working towards off the field, then I am always available to share. All that remains is to thank you all for your continued support and to wish our players well tonight and hope we all are in for a good game. Stuart Bonser Club Chairman

FIRST TEAM UPDATE Hello and welcome to the NFU Sports Ground, home of Ashby Ivanhoe FC and thank you for all those that have made the trip out to support the team. I know all involved on the pitch value it. There is no way of disguising the fact that we are on an extremely difficult run at the moment. The results don’t lie. It is important to remember that this is a new squad full of young players who are learning with every game. We aren’t too far away. If we continue to provide opportunities for these players, the club, in the medium to long term, will have a very talented pool of home-grown players to challenge at the right end of the table. In the short term, we know where we need to improve and what needs to be done and we will continue to work with Marc (reserve team manager) to deliver this for the club. The important thing is that inside the club we are all on the same page. Enjoy the game, keep the faith and please be vocal in your support. Craig Picknell and Glyn Andrews First Team Management

IN OPPOSITION TODAY BELPER UNITED Belper United came into formation around the early 1920’s but there are no records, only photographic evidence exists, and it is believed the club folded in the late 1940’s. In 1969 local players Frank Watson and Dennis Carter merged Milford Sports and Belper Park Rangers to re-form Belper United. During the seventies and mid-eighties the club enjoyed many successful periods firstly under Frank Watson then later under Ian Sinclair and Glyn Carter. During the Nineties the club had more success, but towards the turn of the century United had a more turbulent time with the club only fielding one side and players and managers alike drifting in and out of the club. David Poplar and Glyn Carter took the helm and restored the club’s reputation very quickly, and at this time re-formed the reserve side and the seeds of a stronger committee were set. For the 2011/12 season the club moved from the ailing Midland Regional Alliance and joined the Central Midlands League South Division and without doubt the club has made massive strides during that period Under Steve Watson and Paul Postlethwaite, season 2012-13 saw the first team finishing third in the league, whilst the reserves under Darren Mayes and Mark Bailey had a fantastic season completing a league and cup double. On the back of that however, the promise of a good 2013-2014 season was quickly thwarted by an unprecedented injury crisis of several first team players which we never recovered from and that had a knock on effect on the reserves leading to a disappointing season all round With Paul Postlethwaite taking over the 1st team managers role, a new management team in the reserves together with the continued support of our main sponsor, internationally renowned but local boiler maker Vaillant, the 1st team had a successful 2014-15 season finishing 5th in the League, Semifinalists in the League Cup and winners of the Floodlit Cup. The 2015-16 season was our most successful year when we gained promotion to Step 6 Football in the East Midlands Counties League, a great time to be part of this club and a massive achievement for Paul Postlethwaite and the team. 2016-2017 was always going to be an exciting year and a huge challenge for the club, entering a new league with established clubs, some with unrealistic player budgets for this level, was always going to tough. The season started disastrously with half the squad picking up injuries in the first month and we were precariously sitting in the relegation positon, after a lack lustre Derbyshire Cup game, Paul decided he had taken the club as far as he could and resigned, a body blow for such a stalwart of the club. With Matt Freeman taking temporary charge, he enlisted the help of Ian McAndrew, an experienced coach at this level and the joint management team soon made light work of consolidating the team and getting results. By the end of the season we were the form team in the league and with everything considered, finished a very credible 13th 2017 has seen the club restructure, the reserves and the U21 team have been disbanded and the Junior section has become independent of the senior section, the emphasis for the season will be concentrated on the 1st team activities. Macca and Freemo we are pleased to announce remain as managers ably assisted by Simon. We look forward again to the season ahead and are confident that we can do the league justice and hope to start as we finished.

ASHBY IVANHOE FC CLUB HISTORY

8

F

Ashby Ivanhoe Football Club was founded in 1948 and play their home matches at the NFU Sports Ground, Lower Packington Road, Ashby de la O 4 UN 19 Zouch in Leicestershire. This is the clubs new home from the beginning of the DED 2012/2013 season. Since being founded in 1948 up until the end of the 2011/2012 season the clubs previous home was at Hood Park also in Ashby de la Zouch.

The club currently consists of three adult teams and a youth team. The first team play in the East Midlands Counties League, with the Reserves in the Leicestershire Senior League Premier Division. In the 2008/2009 season the club formed a Youth Team (Under 18’s) side who play in the Leicestershire Midweek Floodlit Youth League on Wednesday nights. A Sunday team was re-introduced for this season and they play in the Burton Sunday League Division Four. The club also has a large number of junior sides ranging from Under 7’s through to Under 18’s who play in the Burton Junior Football League, Tamworth Junior Football League and the Derby City League. The junior section came after the club merged with the David Hunt Soccer School at the beginning of the 2009/2010 season. In February 2004, Ashby Ivanhoe became an FA Charter Standard football club. The club is very ambitious and has plans to progress further up the league pyramid system. The club is run by an experienced management team and enjoys the support of some very prestigious commercial partners. Ashby Ivanhoe had one of their most successful seasons in 2010/2011 as they completed a league and cup double by winning the Leicestershire Senior League by nine points and also lifted the Coalville Charity Cup for the very first time after producing a superb second half comeback to beat Bardon Hill 3-2 in the final. They have also reached successive Leicestershire Senior Cup finals in 2011/2012 and 2012/2013 but had to settle for runners-up on both occasions losing 3-1, firstly to Ibstock United and then Aylestone Park. The 2013/2014 season saw the first team achieve a long-term ambition as they won promotion into the Step 6 East Midlands Counties League for the 2014/2015 season after finishing third place in the Leicestershire Senior League. It was a close title race with the top three all finishing level on points with Ashby third on goal difference. The Reserves were also promoted to the Leicestershire Senior League Division One. 2014/2015 saw Ashby compete at Step 6 of the non-league pyramid for the first time and they had a very good season and secured a top six finish in the East Midlands Counties League which featured victories against all of the sides above them. The Reserve side were involved in a tight title race and it went down to a last day decider against Lutterworth Athletic Reserves but despite the result going against them on the day they were still promoted for the second season in succession and would play at Step 7 in the Leicestershire Senior League Premier Division for 2015/2016.

ASHBY IVANHOE FC CLUB HISTORY 2015/2016 saw Ashby have another fine season and they mounted a strong title challenge and they led the East Midlands Counties League for the majority of the season before finally finishing in third place. That saw them assured of a first ever appearance in the FA Cup for the 2016/2017 season. Last season was the most memorable in the history of Ashby Ivanhoe Football Club. For the very first time in the clubs history they were accepted to play in the most famous club competition in the world, The FA Cup. It turned into a thrilling journey with higher ranked opponents of Quorn and Loughborough Dynamo knocked out before Ashby fell to Ilkeston in the 1st Qualifying Round. Prior to the Ilkeston defeat Ashby received a visit from the FA Cup which was paraded through the town centre visiting local sponsors before players and spectators had the opportunity to view the cup at the NFU Sports Ground. The league season was inconsistent with a strong finish to the season seeing the team finish in tenth place. The season did end with a first appearance in the final of the Jenkins & Jenkins League Cup but Dunkirk overturned a one goal deficit late on to see Ashby end as runners-up. The new season sees a new management team at the helm of the club with Glyn Andrews and Craig Picknell joining the club from Friar Lane & Epworth with the aim of achieving promotion to Step 5.
