CHAIRMANS WELCOME Good evening and welcome to tonight’s match against our visitors Kimberley Miners Welfare and may I extend a warm welcome to the players, officials and spectators of Kimberley Miners Welfare and hope that we all enjoy a good match. The following notes were written ahead of the Selston & Anstey matches but due to the recent weather both matches were postponed. I am pleased to report that our Club Captain, Jordan McCourt underwent a successful operation to repair his ruptured knee tendons and our wishes and thoughts are with him for a speedy recovery, albeit the surgeon has stated this will be approximately 8 months but I am sure once Jordan is on his feet we will all see him back supporting the team as a true professional he is. For those of you who watched the last home game against Blaby and Whetstone, I am sure you will agree it was another impressive performance by, yet again a very young side and Craig stated the average age of the team was 20.7. If football was like a west end show the performance would have earned us the 3 points but as we are in a results business we unfortunately came out on the wrong end of a 3-4 scoreline but I know that Craig and Marc will instil into this young side the importance of taking the positives from the game and not dwell on the result too much and each of the players should be proud to have played their part and I hope now the team will gain some consistency and start to string some results together along the way. As Winter is now upon us, and don’t we know about it with our last two home matches being called off due to the arctic blast and snow that hit us last week, it is worth me mentioning Ian Irving, our Operations Manager, who continues to work tirelessly on the pitch and training area and to try and maintain them in the best condition possible which is not easy when you are battling the elements of winter weather but I would like to personally thank Ian for all the work he has and is doing to get games played and no one really sees the amount of hours he dedicates to making sure we have the best chance of watching games here at the NFU, so thank you Ian keep up the good work, albeit I know frustrating at times. All that remains is to wish Craig, Marc and the players today all the best and hope we all enjoy a god game and thank you all for your continued support of the team both home and away. Also as this is the final home match of 2017 may I wish all our supporters and your families a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Stuart Bonser Club Chairman

FIRST TEAM UPDATE Hello and welcome to the NFU, home of Ashby Ivanhoe FC. Thank you to all those that have made the trip out to support the team this evening. Tonight we welcome Kimberley Miners Welfare to the NFU in the middle of what was a difficult set of December fixtures but the Selston & Anstey games were both postponed due to the recent weather conditions. Having said that though tonight’s game against an inform Kimberley side and this coming Saturday’s trip to league leaders Teversal will be two of our toughest matches of the season. It seems a while since the last game against Blaby & Whetstone but this was another test for our young side which averaged at 20 years old and the first half display was as good as any I have seen in the near 2 seasons I have been at the club proving the future is very bright. What we now need to do is make sure we carry out that level of performance over the 90 minutes as we have proven we can be a match for any side in the league. Tonight’s opponents, Kimberley, will provide another strong test as they are having a really good season and currently sit in fourth place in the table. Enjoy today’s game and thank you for your support and may I wish all of our supporters a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. IN OPPOSITION TODAY KIMBERLEY MINERS WELFARE Kimberley Miners Welfare Football Club was formed in 1926, one year after the opening of the Miners Welfare. Early years was spent playing at the Mill Field, approx 1⁄2 mile North of Digby Street. In 1932 KMWFC moved to the new recreation ground, Digby Street, situated adjacent to Digby Colliery and its cricket ground. Initially, Digby Street was solely a playing field with teams changing in Tommy Bird’s (pronounced Tommy Bod’s, in the local dialect) front room. It was a lengthy walk, for players and officials to Digby Street, because Tommy lived in a house supplied for workers, on site, at the Giltbrook Leather Works. In the late 1950s, changing facilities moved, to the Miners Welfare Bowling Alley underneath the building, which meant an even longer walk for players and officials! KMWFC have played at Digby Street for 81 years but, it hasn’t been continuous. The club played at the Wolsey Sports Ground for 1 season, 1974/75 (situated were Sainsbury’s Car Park now is, in Kimberley Town Centre), because the construction of the new A610 Eastwood & Kimberley Bypass took away part of the ground and made it unusable. 1982 was a key year in the history of the club as the present chairman Neil Johnson took on the role of chairman from his father. It wasn’t until the 1995/6 season that changing facilities were provided on the ground. A £7,500 grant from the National Lottery, and an equivalent generous donation from Chairman Neil Johnson, enabled the club to buy, transport and erect, the unwanted changing rooms from Calverton Cricket Club. This was around the time of the clubs most successful period on the pitch under the leadership of Paul Horry Kimberley won all 4 trophies available to them. Paul Horry left and was replaced on a caretaker basis by Steve Hobster. Don Munn took charge before the appointment of George Hulley. The joint management of Alf Stacey & Steve Towle took charge in the early 2000s. The pair resigned a few years later when Kimberley then turned back to the successful George Hulley who remained in charge until 2014 standing down following the clubs best season in a decade, finishing runners up in the Notts Senior League and gaining promotion to the East Midlands Counties League, the highest level the football club have ever played at. In 2014 KMW appointed Paul Rawden and Dino Labbate as the clubs new first team management. In the summer of 2015 the club made a number of changes off the pitch with Brian Franks and Malc Burton as well as the appointment of a New Secretary and Development Officer. In September 2015 Paul Rawden resigned his position and was quickly replaced by ex Ashby and Stapenhill Manager Tony Hemmings. Despite a positive start results turned and club parted company with Hemmings. Club Captain Martin Lench was appointed as Manager alongside the long serving Andy Miller until the end of the season. The duo retained the clubs EMCL Status. In June 2016 Welfare announced the appointment of Ian Deakin as joint manager together with Martin Lench. The season was a success with two cup quarter finals and an 8th place finish securing FA Cup Football for the first time in the clubs history. Deakin stood down at the end of the season and the club moved to appoint the experienced team of Andy Alls, Luke Humphries and John Humphries to lead the club into the new season.

ASHBY IVANHOE FC CLUB HISTORY

F
Ashby Ivanhoe Football Club was founded in 1948 and play their home matches at the NFU Sports Ground, Lower Packington Road, Ashby de la O 4 UN 19 Zouch in Leicestershire. This is the clubs new home from the beginning of the DED 2012/2013 season. Since being founded in 1948 up until the end of the 2011/2012 season the clubs previous home was at Hood Park also in Ashby de la Zouch.
The club currently consists of three adult teams and a youth team. The first team play in the East Midlands Counties League, with the Reserves in the Leicestershire Senior League Premier Division. In the 2008/2009 season the club formed a Youth Team (Under 18’s) side who play in the Leicestershire Midweek Floodlit Youth League on Wednesday nights. A Sunday team was re-introduced for this season and they play in the Burton Sunday League Division Four. The club also has a large number of junior sides ranging from Under 7’s through to Under 18’s who play in the Burton Junior Football League, Tamworth Junior Football League and the Derby City League. The junior section came after the club merged with the David Hunt Soccer School at the beginning of the 2009/2010 season. In February 2004, Ashby Ivanhoe became an FA Charter Standard football club. The club is very ambitious and has plans to progress further up the league pyramid system. The club is run by an experienced management team and enjoys the support of some very prestigious commercial partners. Ashby Ivanhoe had one of their most successful seasons in 2010/2011 as they completed a league and cup double by winning the Leicestershire Senior League by nine points and also lifted the Coalville Charity Cup for the very first time after producing a superb second half comeback to beat Bardon Hill 3-2 in the final. They have also reached successive Leicestershire Senior Cup finals in 2011/2012 and 2012/2013 but had to settle for runners-up on both occasions losing 3-1, firstly to Ibstock United and then Aylestone Park. The 2013/2014 season saw the first team achieve a long-term ambition as they won promotion into the Step 6 East Midlands Counties League for the 2014/2015 season after finishing third place in the Leicestershire Senior League. It was a close title race with the top three all finishing level on points with Ashby third on goal difference. The Reserves were also promoted to the Leicestershire Senior League Division One. 2014/2015 saw Ashby compete at Step 6 of the non-league pyramid for the first time and they had a very good season and secured a top six finish in the East Midlands Counties League which featured victories against all of the sides above them. The Reserve side were involved in a tight title race and it went down to a last day decider against Lutterworth Athletic Reserves but despite the result going against them on the day they were still promoted for the second season in succession and would play at Step 7 in the Leicestershire Senior League Premier Division for 2015/2016.

ASHBY IVANHOE FC CLUB HISTORY 2015/2016 saw Ashby have another fine season and they mounted a strong title challenge and they led the East Midlands Counties League for the majority of the season before finally finishing in third place. That saw them assured of a first ever appearance in the FA Cup for the 2016/2017 season. Last season was the most memorable in the history of Ashby Ivanhoe Football Club. For the very first time in the clubs history they were accepted to play in the most famous club competition in the world, The FA Cup. It turned into a thrilling journey with higher ranked opponents of Quorn and Loughborough Dynamo knocked out before Ashby fell to Ilkeston in the 1st Qualifying Round. Prior to the Ilkeston defeat Ashby received a visit from the FA Cup which was paraded through the town centre visiting local sponsors before players and spectators had the opportunity to view the cup at the NFU Sports Ground. The league season was inconsistent with a strong finish to the season seeing the team finish in tenth place. The season did end with a first appearance in the final of the Jenkins & Jenkins League Cup but Dunkirk overturned a one goal deficit late on to see Ashby end as runners-up. The new season sees a new management team at the helm of the club with Glyn Andrews and Craig Picknell joining the club from Friar Lane & Epworth with the aim of achieving promotion to Step 5.
