CHAIRMANS WELCOME Welcome to 2018 and the year of our 70th Year Anniversay of which there are lots of planned celebrations ahead for which I will keep you posted on, but for now, Good evening and welcome to tonight’s match against our visitors Selston FC, who visit the NFU for the first time and may I extend a warm welcome to the players, officials and spectators of Selston FC and hope that we all enjoy a good match. The team has now 3 back to back wins, unbeaten in 2018 and have now put performances to results which is really pleasing and great for all involved. It has to be said that we are now fielding one of the youngest teams in the league and the boys are doing themselves proud. The job of the Management team is to field young players that are supported by senior player and great to see, at last, that we are fielding 2 big experienced centre halves in Dan Stevenson and Danny Turnock. Our new found goalkeeper, aptly called “IVANHOE” by Dave Buckley proves that a consistent and good Number 1 is key to the rest of the team. It is also worth mentioning Mitch Woodbine who has stepped up to captaining the team since the bad injury to Jordan McCourt and I now see Mitch as an experienced and valuable player to the whole team going forward. The introduction of Kieran O’Sullivan and his performance, maturity and respect is a breath of fresh air at the club and he is a very welcome addition and long may he continue to improve and feature as part of the team. The additions that Craig and Marc are also bringing in continue to strengthen the team whilst remaining focussed on youth players too, players such as Joe Lindley who joined us from Quorn and with other additions planned it is testament to Craig and Marc that they continue to work hard outside of matchdays and I appreciate their efforts. It is worth noting that despite the perception of “un-named” individuals that are hell bent on criticising the club for the worst pitch in the league that they fail to appreciate nor have the intelligence to appreciate that we are one of the only clubs that have recently spent a further £2500 on trying to improve our pitch and make it playable through 185sq m of new turf being laid by the same contractors that re-laid the goal mouths at Old Trafford. However, when ignorant people involved in football forget to appreciate that the wet winters are now dictating wetter pitches and the increasing “player safety” aspect of pitches dictating cancellations it is worth remembering that NO – ONE likes games cancelled let alone clubs and what players and other less respectful individuals appreciate is the work that actually goes on behind the scenes to get games played and with that it is worth me mentioning Ian Irving, our Operations Manager, who continues to work tirelessly on the pitch and training area and to try and maintain them in the best condition possible which is not easy when you are battling the elements of winter weather but I would like to personally thank Ian for all the work he has and is doing to get games played and no one really sees the amount of hours he dedicates to making sure we have the best chance of watching games here at the NFU, so thank you Ian keep up the good work, albeit I know frustrating at times. I remember days gone by when pitches at this time of year were mud baths full of goal moth scrambles and full respect for the kit washer but sadly those games of “get on with it” have gone as I am sure you will be witnessing a largely GREEN PITCH tonight and little signs of a mud bath. All that remains is to wish Craig, Marc and the players today all the best and hope we all enjoy a god game and thank you all for your continued support of the team both home and away. Stuart Bonser Club Chairman

IN OPPOSITION TODAY SELSTON The club was formed in 1968 and played its early football in the Alfreton & District Sunday League, of which they were a founding member. They continued in the league for around eight seasons whilst establishing themselves. For the 1977/78 Season, their attention turned to the Nottinghamshire Sunday Football League in which they finished runners-up in Division Three of the Premier section in their first season under the management of Graham (Dart) D’Arcy. A period of time was spent in the different local leagues, but in the late 80's with the ambition to progress, the club decided to concentrate on Saturday football and joined the Central Midlands Football League. In the 1990-91 season the first team won the C.M.L Division One Cup. In the meantime, the club had taken on board their first junior sides, operating initially in the Rowsley & District Youth League and shortly afterwards in the Derby City Youth League, Mansfield Youth League and in the late 90's the Notts Imperial Youth League. Junior football has really taken off in recent years, growing from four junior teams in 2008 to nine for the 2016/17 season, with many honours won along the way. The club had a period without senior football and concentrated on the junior section. In 2006 the decision was made to start a men’s team again, a side was entered into the Midland Regional Alliance for the 06/07 season. This team had notable success winning Division 2 in 2007/08 by a margin of 14 points and scoring 175 goals. They also won the MRA Junior Cup that year, beating Division 1 side Willington 8-2 in the final and also lifted the Notts Junior Cup, beating The Three Crowns 3-1 in extra time. A reserve side was started in 2009/10 in the MRA Division Two and despite attempting to keep a pathway open to the first team for junior players, the reserves team proved difficult to keep going. However, they did have some success, winning the Notts Junior Cup in 2011/12 as the first team had done a few seasons earlier. In 2011/12 the first team joined the Notts Senior League, finishing mid table in the first two seasons and doing reasonably well in cup competitions. The 2013/14 season saw the first team crowned champions of the NSL, during this season the team also defeated two teams from higher leagues in the Notts Senior Cup, Radford FC and AFC Mansfield. In the 2015/16 season the men’s team re-joined the Central Midlands League after an absence of around 15 years. In the first season back in the league they took the South division by storm, a mid season streak of 15 successive league wins helping them to the title. The Parishioners eventually finished top, 10 points clear of their nearest rivals to take the league trophy at the first attempt. In the 2016/17 season the men’s first team won the Central Midlands League South again, an unprecedented feat in the new CMFL North/South set up and they also bagged the Buckingham Insurance League Cup. Plans were afoot to upgrade the ground should the team win the league again and following great work by the committee, managers and first team players, physical works were completed by March 2017 to enable the ground to be graded ‘H’ – good enough for step 6. Alongside this the application for promotion was submitted and funding sought for floodlights. Both were successful and, as a result Selston FC will play at step 6 for the first time in their history. Floodlights are due to be operational by September 2017. The club won a number of awards off the field last season too: FA Charter Standard Club of the Year for Nottinghamshire, FA Charter Standard Club of the Year for East of England Region and Secretary of the year for the Central Midlands league. The men’s reserve team finished 3rd in the Notts Senior League Division Two and were promoted to Division One. The club will operate 10 junior teams and 3 men’s teams in 2017/18.

ASHBY IVANHOE FC CLUB HISTORY
8
F
Ashby Ivanhoe Football Club was founded in 1948 and play their home matches at the NFU Sports Ground, Lower Packington Road, Ashby de la O 4 UN 19 Zouch in Leicestershire. This is the clubs new home from the beginning of the DED 2012/2013 season. Since being founded in 1948 up until the end of the 2011/2012 season the clubs previous home was at Hood Park also in Ashby de la Zouch.
The club currently consists of three adult teams and a youth team. The first team play in the East Midlands Counties League, with the Reserves in the Leicestershire Senior League Premier Division. In the 2008/2009 season the club formed a Youth Team (Under 18’s) side who play in the Leicestershire Midweek Floodlit Youth League on Wednesday nights. A Sunday team was re-introduced for this season and they play in the Burton Sunday League Division Four. The club also has a large number of junior sides ranging from Under 7’s through to Under 18’s who play in the Burton Junior Football League, Tamworth Junior Football League and the Derby City League. The junior section came after the club merged with the David Hunt Soccer School at the beginning of the 2009/2010 season. In February 2004, Ashby Ivanhoe became an FA Charter Standard football club. The club is very ambitious and has plans to progress further up the league pyramid system. The club is run by an experienced management team and enjoys the support of some very prestigious commercial partners. Ashby Ivanhoe had one of their most successful seasons in 2010/2011 as they completed a league and cup double by winning the Leicestershire Senior League by nine points and also lifted the Coalville Charity Cup for the very first time after producing a superb second half comeback to beat Bardon Hill 3-2 in the final. They have also reached successive Leicestershire Senior Cup finals in 2011/2012 and 2012/2013 but had to settle for runners-up on both occasions losing 3-1, firstly to Ibstock United and then Aylestone Park. The 2013/2014 season saw the first team achieve a long-term ambition as they won promotion into the Step 6 East Midlands Counties League for the 2014/2015 season after finishing third place in the Leicestershire Senior League. It was a close title race with the top three all finishing level on points with Ashby third on goal difference. The Reserves were also promoted to the Leicestershire Senior League Division One. 2014/2015 saw Ashby compete at Step 6 of the non-league pyramid for the first time and they had a very good season and secured a top six finish in the East Midlands Counties League which featured victories against all of the sides above them. The Reserve side were involved in a tight title race and it went down to a last day decider against Lutterworth Athletic Reserves but despite the result going against them on the day they were still promoted for the second season in succession and would play at Step 7 in the Leicestershire Senior League Premier Division for 2015/2016.

ASHBY IVANHOE FC CLUB HISTORY 2015/2016 saw Ashby have another fine season and they mounted a strong title challenge and they led the East Midlands Counties League for the majority of the season before finally finishing in third place. That saw them assured of a first ever appearance in the FA Cup for the 2016/2017 season. Last season was the most memorable in the history of Ashby Ivanhoe Football Club. For the very first time in the clubs history they were accepted to play in the most famous club competition in the world, The FA Cup. It turned into a thrilling journey with higher ranked opponents of Quorn and Loughborough Dynamo knocked out before Ashby fell to Ilkeston in the 1st Qualifying Round. Prior to the Ilkeston defeat Ashby received a visit from the FA Cup which was paraded through the town centre visiting local sponsors before players and spectators had the opportunity to view the cup at the NFU Sports Ground. The league season was inconsistent with a strong finish to the season seeing the team finish in tenth place. The season did end with a first appearance in the final of the Jenkins & Jenkins League Cup but Dunkirk overturned a one goal deficit late on to see Ashby end as runners-up. The new season sees a new management team at the helm of the club with Glyn Andrews and Craig Picknell joining the club from Friar Lane & Epworth with the aim of achieving promotion to Step 5.
