CHAIRMANS WELCOME Good evening and welcome to tonight’s match against our visitors Kimberley Miners Welfare and may I extend a warm welcome to the players, officials and spectators of Kimberley Miners Welfare and hope that we all enjoy a good match. Last Tuesday night’s game v Dunkirk was an example of how football is not an exact science. The players responded well from the defeat to Radford and for the majority of the game v Dunkirk were under pressure but they showed real determination and fight to hold onto a 1-0 lead and run out winners and they have shown that they can compete and today should be no different against our visitors. Since my last notes I have had a few people ask me what is the “plan” for the team this Season. Firstly, the plan involves the whole club and the pinnacle being the first team so here it is: 1. To identify the players in our current 3 Under 15’s Teams that are capable of making the transition and step up into Midweek Youth Football next Season 2. The Under 16’s Coaches to promote at least 2 players from their squad into the Midweek Floodlit Teams this Season 3. The 2 Midweek Floodlit Teams Managers to promote a minimum of 4 players each into the Reserves by the end of the Season 4. The Reserve Team Manager to promote a min of 4 players into the 1st Team by the end of the Season and playing regularly 5. The Reserve Team Manager to establish a quota of Senior Players in the side that are capable of a) performing at Senior League level and b) understand that they are there to support and mentor the youth players around them 6. The 1st Team to equal if not go one better than the League and Cup positions of last year which was 10th and Runners Up in the League Cup. 7. The 1st Team to establish enough points to gain entry into next Seasons FA CUP (average of 1.9 points per game) 8. The key target is to focus on youth player development and progression into the Senior squads, supported and enhanced with Senior players which will establish a Mid/Long term sustainable playing side. If you have any questions regarding the targets or future plans of the club then please feel to speak with me or email me at info@ashbyivanhoefc.com All that remains is to thank you for your continued support and to wish our players well today and hope we all are in for a good game. Stuart Bonser Club Chairman PS – if you are visiting the ground by car please DO NOT OBSTRUCT the junction to Cambrian Way by parking on the grass/path verge as this is both dangerous and you could get a fixed penalty notice from the Council and or Police.

FIRST TEAM UPDATE Following on from defeat away to Radford which was a game of two halves where we gave away some easy goals and fought to get back into the game which didn’t quite happen we went into the Dunkirk game knowing a battling performance was going to be required and that's exactly what Craig & I got. We had to shuffle the pack following the injury to Conrad Turner with Jack Robinson coming in to replace him after some good performances in the reserves. In his first start he equipped himself well proving another great addition from the youth system. The lads battled well and we kept our concentration to defend for the full 90 minutes to take a deserved 1-0 win. Our visitors Kimberley Miners Welfare will pose a different challenge all together as they are flying high in the table and we will need to be at our best to get something from the game. With the fixture congestion we may have to shuffle the pack but as the players who have come in have shown they are up to the job and our young squad is ever improving. Enjoy tonight’s game Marc Sargeant First Team Management

IN OPPOSITION TODAY KIMBERLEY MINERS WELFARE Kimberley Miners Welfare Football Club was formed in 1926, one year after the opening of the Miners Welfare. Early years was spent playing at the Mill Field, approx 1⁄2 mile North of Digby Street. In 1932 KMWFC moved to the new recreation ground, Digby Street, situated adjacent to Digby Colliery and its cricket ground. Initially, Digby Street was solely a playing field with teams changing in Tommy Bird’s (pronounced Tommy Bod’s, in the local dialect) front room. It was a lengthy walk, for players and officials to Digby Street, because Tommy lived in a house supplied for workers, on site, at the Giltbrook Leather Works. In the late 1950s, changing facilities moved, to the Miners Welfare Bowling Alley underneath the building, which meant an even longer walk for players and officials! KMWFC have played at Digby Street for 81 years but, it hasn’t been continuous. The club played at the Wolsey Sports Ground for 1 season, 1974/75 (situated were Sainsbury’s Car Park now is, in Kimberley Town Centre), because the construction of the new A610 Eastwood & Kimberley Bypass took away part of the ground and made it unusable. 1982 was a key year in the history of the club as the present chairman Neil Johnson took on the role of chairman from his father. It wasn’t until the 1995/6 season that changing facilities were provided on the ground. A £7,500 grant from the National Lottery, and an equivalent generous donation from Chairman Neil Johnson, enabled the club to buy, transport and erect, the unwanted changing rooms from Calverton Cricket Club. This was around the time of the clubs most successful period on the pitch under the leadership of Paul Horry Kimberley won all 4 trophies available to them. Paul Horry left and was replaced on a caretaker basis by Steve Hobster. Don Munn took charge before the appointment of George Hulley. The joint management of Alf Stacey & Steve Towle took charge in the early 2000s. The pair resigned a few years later when Kimberley then turned back to the successful George Hulley who remained in charge until 2014 standing down following the clubs best season in a decade, finishing runners up in the Notts Senior League and gaining promotion to the East Midlands Counties League, the highest level the football club have ever played at. In 2014 KMW appointed Paul Rawden and Dino Labbate as the clubs new first team management. In the summer of 2015 the club made a number of changes off the pitch with Brian Franks and Malc Burton as well as the appointment of a New Secretary and Development Officer. In September 2015 Paul Rawden resigned his position and was quickly replaced by ex Ashby and Stapenhill Manager Tony Hemmings. Despite a positive start results turned and club parted company with Hemmings. Club Captain Martin Lench was appointed as Manager alongside the long serving Andy Miller until the end of the season. The duo retained the clubs EMCL Status. In June 2016 Welfare announced the appointment of Ian Deakin as joint manager together with Martin Lench. The season was a success with two cup quarter finals and an 8th place finish securing FA Cup Football for the first time in the clubs history. Deakin stood down at the end of the season and the club moved to appoint the experienced team of Andy Alls, Luke Humphries and John Humphries to lead the club into the new season.

ASHBY IVANHOE FC CLUB HISTORY

8

F

Ashby Ivanhoe Football Club was founded in 1948 and play their home matches at the NFU Sports Ground, Lower Packington Road, Ashby de la O 4 UN 19 Zouch in Leicestershire. This is the clubs new home from the beginning of the DED 2012/2013 season. Since being founded in 1948 up until the end of the 2011/2012 season the clubs previous home was at Hood Park also in Ashby de la Zouch.

The club currently consists of three adult teams and a youth team. The first team play in the East Midlands Counties League, with the Reserves in the Leicestershire Senior League Premier Division. In the 2008/2009 season the club formed a Youth Team (Under 18’s) side who play in the Leicestershire Midweek Floodlit Youth League on Wednesday nights. A Sunday team was re-introduced for this season and they play in the Burton Sunday League Division Four. The club also has a large number of junior sides ranging from Under 7’s through to Under 18’s who play in the Burton Junior Football League, Tamworth Junior Football League and the Derby City League. The junior section came after the club merged with the David Hunt Soccer School at the beginning of the 2009/2010 season. In February 2004, Ashby Ivanhoe became an FA Charter Standard football club. The club is very ambitious and has plans to progress further up the league pyramid system. The club is run by an experienced management team and enjoys the support of some very prestigious commercial partners. Ashby Ivanhoe had one of their most successful seasons in 2010/2011 as they completed a league and cup double by winning the Leicestershire Senior League by nine points and also lifted the Coalville Charity Cup for the very first time after producing a superb second half comeback to beat Bardon Hill 3-2 in the final. They have also reached successive Leicestershire Senior Cup finals in 2011/2012 and 2012/2013 but had to settle for runners-up on both occasions losing 3-1, firstly to Ibstock United and then Aylestone Park. The 2013/2014 season saw the first team achieve a long-term ambition as they won promotion into the Step 6 East Midlands Counties League for the 2014/2015 season after finishing third place in the Leicestershire Senior League. It was a close title race with the top three all finishing level on points with Ashby third on goal difference. The Reserves were also promoted to the Leicestershire Senior League Division One. 2014/2015 saw Ashby compete at Step 6 of the non-league pyramid for the first time and they had a very good season and secured a top six finish in the East Midlands Counties League which featured victories against all of the sides above them. The Reserve side were involved in a tight title race and it went down to a last day decider against Lutterworth Athletic Reserves but despite the result going against them on the day they were still promoted for the second season in succession and would play at Step 7 in the Leicestershire Senior League Premier Division for 2015/2016.

ASHBY IVANHOE FC CLUB HISTORY 2015/2016 saw Ashby have another fine season and they mounted a strong title challenge and they led the East Midlands Counties League for the majority of the season before finally finishing in third place. That saw them assured of a first ever appearance in the FA Cup for the 2016/2017 season. Last season was the most memorable in the history of Ashby Ivanhoe Football Club. For the very first time in the clubs history they were accepted to play in the most famous club competition in the world, The FA Cup. It turned into a thrilling journey with higher ranked opponents of Quorn and Loughborough Dynamo knocked out before Ashby fell to Ilkeston in the 1st Qualifying Round. Prior to the Ilkeston defeat Ashby received a visit from the FA Cup which was paraded through the town centre visiting local sponsors before players and spectators had the opportunity to view the cup at the NFU Sports Ground. The league season was inconsistent with a strong finish to the season seeing the team finish in tenth place. The season did end with a first appearance in the final of the Jenkins & Jenkins League Cup but Dunkirk overturned a one goal deficit late on to see Ashby end as runners-up. The new season sees a new management team at the helm of the club with Glyn Andrews and Craig Picknell joining the club from Friar Lane & Epworth with the aim of achieving promotion to Step 5.
