CHAIRMANS WELCOME Good evening and welcome to tonight’s match against Kimberley Miners Welfare and may I welcome the players, officials and supporters of Kimberley Miners Welfare and hope that we all enjoy a good match. Well the season is only a few days old but already the chairman has decided to take a holiday so tonight’s notes will highlight a few important matches over the next month. FA Vase First Qualifying Round Ashby will once again this season be competing in the Buildbase FA Vase and the first qualifying round tie has seen us given a home draw against St Martins of the West Midlands Regional League Division One. The tie will take place on Saturday 9th September; 3:00pm kick off. FA Youth Cup The midweek youth team will also make an appearance in this seasons FA Youth Cup and their preliminary round tie will see them face Belper Town at the NFU Sports Ground on Wednesday 6th September, 7:30pm kick off. There has been one first team fixture re-arranged since the last programme and due to Aylestone Park’s involvement in the Preliminary Round of the FA Cup the away league fixture scheduled for Saturday 19th August has been put back to Tuesday 22nd August, 7:45pm. The Reserve team begin their season a week on Saturday (19th August) with a home fixture against Ibstock United. Also please check the fixture list as the reserves have a number of midweek home games during the first few weeks of the season. Finally I would like to wish the players the very best for tonight’s match and hopefully we can build on an opening day point and secure the first win of the season but it will be a very tough game against a Kimberley side who begin their league campaign tonight following their FA Cup exit on Saturday. Thank you for your support and enjoy the game. Matthew Lester Programme Editor

FIRST TEAM UPDATE Hello and welcome to the NFU Sports Ground, home of Ashby Ivanhoe FC for our second game of the 2017/2018 season against Kimberley Miners Welfare. Glyn and I extend a warm welcome to our home support and the Kimberley Miners Welfare players, officials and supporters. This second game comes quickly after what was an entertaining game on Saturday against Teversal in our 0-0 draw. On reflection we were disappointed as we both felt it was a game we should have won. The woodwork stopped us twice and we should have done better with the chances we created (especially in the first half). That said if you can’t win a game then don’t lose it and the draw put our first point of the season on the board. The good thing about this time of year is that we have another opportunity tonight to post 3 points against Kimberley who come to us after being beaten by Blaby in the FA Cup on Saturday. I am sure they will be disappointed with this considering the hard work they put in last season to put them in the position to be entered into the competition. The bad news for us is that they will be looking to put that right. I mentioned on Saturday that we are utilising our squad to the full with players being away on holiday and today is no different. We are now without 3 players from the squad on Saturday but welcome back from holiday 2 more. As always we have complete confidence in the team we have out on the pitch and we are always confident in our ability to get the win. Enjoy the game. IN OPPOSITION TODAY KIMBERLEY MINERS WELFARE Kimberley Miners Welfare Football Club was formed in 1926, one year after the opening of the Miners Welfare. Our early year’s was spent playing at the Mill Field, approximately 1⁄2 mile North of Digby Street. In 1932 KMWFC moved to the new recreation ground, Digby Street, situated adjacent to Digby Colliery and its cricket ground. Initially, Digby Street was solely a playing field with teams changing in Tommy Bird’s (pronounced Tommy Bod’s, in the local dialect) front room. It was a lengthy walk, for players and officials to Digby Street, because Tommy lived in a house supplied for workers, on site, at the Giltbrook Leather Works. In the late 1950s, changing facilities moved, to the Miners Welfare Bowling Alley underneath the building, which meant an even longer walk for players and officials. KMWFC have played at Digby Street for 81 years but, it hasn’t been continuous. The club played at the Wolsey Sports Ground for 1 season, 1974/75 (situated were Sainsbury’s Car Park now is, in Kimberley Town Centre), because the construction of the new A610 Eastwood & Kimberley Bypass took away part of the ground and made it unusable. 1982 was a key year in the history of the club as the present chairman Neil Johnson took on the role of chairman from his father. It wasn’t until the 1995/6 season that changing facilities were provided on the ground. A £7,500 grant from the National Lottery, and an equivalent generous donation from Chairman Neil Johnson, enabled the club to buy, transport and erect, the unwanted changing rooms from Calverton Cricket Club. This was around the time of the clubs most successful period on the pitch under the leadership of Paul Horry Kimberley won all 4 trophies available to them. Paul Horry left and was replaced on a caretaker basis by Steve Hobster. Don Munn took charge before the appointment of George Hulley. The joint management of Alf Stacey & Steve Towle took charge in the early 2000s. The pair resigned a few years later when Kimberley then turned back to the successful George Hulley who remained in charge until 2014 standing down following the clubs best season in a decade, finishing runners up in the Notts Senior League and gaining promotion to the East Midland Counties League, the highest level the football club have ever played at. In 2014 KMW appointed Paul Rawden and Dino Labbate as the clubs new first team management. In the summer of 2015 the club made a number of changes of the pitch with Brian Franks and Malc Burton aswell as the appointment of a New Secretary and Development Officer. In September 2015 Paul Rawden resigned his position and was quickly replaced by ex Ashby and Stapenhill Manager Tony Hemmings. Despite a positive start results turned and club parted company with Hemmings. Club Captain Martin Lench was appointed as Manager alongside the long serving Andy Miller until the end of the season. The duo retained the clubs EMCL Status. In June 2016 Welfare announced the appointment of Ian Deakin as joint manager alongside Martin Lench. Deaks joins the club was vast experience of non-league football as the club look to reach the FA Cup for the first time in their history. In 2012 Kimberley MW were given use of The Stag Ground former home of the defunct Kimberley Town and the task of restoring the rundown, near derelict, ground with the superb relationship of Kimberley Town Council is well underway with hundreds of man hours put in, the town of Kimberley finally have a Step 6 club and ground to be proud of. Plans are afoot with KTC to make future exciting developments to allow to the club and town to fulfil its potential.

ASHBY IVANHOE FC CLUB HISTORY

F
Ashby Ivanhoe Football Club was founded in 1948 and play their home matches at the NFU Sports Ground, Lower Packington Road, Ashby de la O 4 UN 19 Zouch in Leicestershire. This is the clubs new home from the beginning of the DED 2012/2013 season. Since being founded in 1948 up until the end of the 2011/2012 season the clubs previous home was at Hood Park also in Ashby de la Zouch.
The club currently consists of three adult teams and a youth team. The first team play in the East Midlands Counties League, with the Reserves in the Leicestershire Senior League Premier Division. In the 2008/2009 season the club formed a Youth Team (Under 18’s) side who play in the Leicestershire Midweek Floodlit Youth League on Wednesday nights. A Sunday team was re-introduced for this season and they play in the Burton Sunday League Division Four. The club also has a large number of junior sides ranging from Under 7’s through to Under 18’s who play in the Burton Junior Football League, Tamworth Junior Football League and the Derby City League. The junior section came after the club merged with the David Hunt Soccer School at the beginning of the 2009/2010 season. In February 2004, Ashby Ivanhoe became an FA Charter Standard football club. The club is very ambitious and has plans to progress further up the league pyramid system. The club is run by an experienced management team and enjoys the support of some very prestigious commercial partners. Ashby Ivanhoe had one of their most successful seasons in 2010/2011 as they completed a league and cup double by winning the Leicestershire Senior League by nine points and also lifted the Coalville Charity Cup for the very first time after producing a superb second half comeback to beat Bardon Hill 3-2 in the final. They have also reached successive Leicestershire Senior Cup finals in 2011/2012 and 2012/2013 but had to settle for runners-up on both occasions losing 3-1, firstly to Ibstock United and then Aylestone Park. The 2013/2014 season saw the first team achieve a long-term ambition as they won promotion into the Step 6 East Midlands Counties League for the 2014/2015 season after finishing third place in the Leicestershire Senior League. It was a close title race with the top three all finishing level on points with Ashby third on goal difference. The Reserves were also promoted to the Leicestershire Senior League Division One. 2014/2015 saw Ashby compete at Step 6 of the non-league pyramid for the first time and they had a very good season and secured a top six finish in the East Midlands Counties League which featured victories against all of the sides above them. The Reserve side were involved in a tight title race and it went down to a last day decider against Lutterworth Athletic Reserves but despite the result going against them on the day they were still promoted for the second season in succession and would play at Step 7 in the Leicestershire Senior League Premier Division for 2015/2016.

ASHBY IVANHOE FC CLUB HISTORY 2015/2016 saw Ashby have another fine season and they mounted a strong title challenge and they led the East Midlands Counties League for the majority of the season before finally finishing in third place. That saw them assured of a first ever appearance in the FA Cup for the 2016/2017 season. Last season was the most memorable in the history of Ashby Ivanhoe Football Club. For the very first time in the clubs history they were accepted to play in the most famous club competition in the world, The FA Cup. It turned into a thrilling journey with higher ranked opponents of Quorn and Loughborough Dynamo knocked out before Ashby fell to Ilkeston in the 1st Qualifying Round. Prior to the Ilkeston defeat Ashby received a visit from the FA Cup which was paraded through the town centre visiting local sponsors before players and spectators had the opportunity to view the cup at the NFU Sports Ground. The league season was inconsistent with a strong finish to the season seeing the team finish in tenth place. The season did end with a first appearance in the final of the Jenkins & Jenkins League Cup but Dunkirk overturned a one goal deficit late on to see Ashby end as runners-up. The new season sees a new management team at the helm of the club with Glyn Andrews and Craig Picknell joining the club from Friar Lane & Epworth with the aim of achieving promotion to Step 5.
