CHAIRMANS WELCOME Good evening and welcome to tonight’s match against our visitors Kimberley Miners Welfare FC and may I extend a warm welcome to the players, officials and spectators of Kimberley Miners Welfare FC and hope that we all enjoy a good match.
A great comeback win for the team on Saturday against Holbrook Sports and this is a true reflection on how far the team are progressing. The performances have been really pleasing since before Christmas and the results started to reward the team too. However, Saturdays game saw a different side to the team and one which showed really progress and that was that they could come back from losing to winning the game and showed real team character which is and will be the true value of any side in any league and ultimately it is what wins games and titles. The players are now building consistency and working hard as a team and credit to them. The management team of Craig and Marc continue to work hard to improve the squad but I believe now that we have a squad that can both perform and get results and as I mentioned in my last notes all we need is the same commitment and consistency for the remainder of the season and we can all look forward to job well done and remember this was a squad almost built from scratch and which has featured one of the arguably youngest teams in the league and WITHOUT having to resort to huge wage demands.
All that remains is to thank you all for your continued support of the team both home and away.

FIRST TEAM UPDATE Hello and welcome to the NFU Sports Ground, home of Ashby Ivanhoe FC. Thank you for all those that have made the trip out to support the team for what will be the 5th attempt of completing this league fixture. The fact tonight is our 5th attempt goes some way to highlighting how the last couple of months has been for us as a team - both positive and frustrating. Positive in that we have won 4 out of the last 6 games and frustrating in that rain, snow and ice has destroyed the fixture calendar meaning we haven’t been able to build on our recent form in the way we would have liked. Our recent form means that we are 7th in the form table and demonstrates how far this young team have come in recent weeks. A few weeks ago in the league cup against Anstey Nomads the match was abandoned at half time with us winning 1-0 in a game that I felt, if had been completed, would have seen us comfortable winners of the tie. We have nurtured a strong group of players who battle and work for each other and never give up. This was evidenced recently when we overcome Holbrook to win 3-2, with 2 of our goals coming in the last 8 minutes of the game. If we maintain this amount of work rate, effort and desire for the rest of the season we will be in line to have a very good second half to the season. Tonight’s opponents, Kimberley Miners Welfare, will provide another strong test as they are having a really good season and currently sit in fifth place in the table. Enjoy the game, keep the faith and please be vocal in your support as we look to maintain our recent good form. Craig Picknell 1st Team Manager FIRST TEAM UPDATE SPONSORED BY

IN OPPOSITION TODAY KIMBERLEY MINERS WELFARE Kimberley Miners Welfare Football Club was formed in 1926, one year after the opening of the Miners Welfare. Early years was spent playing at the Mill Field, approx 1⁄2 mile North of Digby Street. In 1932 KMWFC moved to the new recreation ground, Digby Street, situated adjacent to Digby Colliery and its cricket ground. Initially, Digby Street was solely a playing field with teams changing in Tommy Bird’s (pronounced Tommy Bod’s, in the local dialect) front room. It was a lengthy walk, for players and officials to Digby Street, because Tommy lived in a house supplied for workers, on site, at the Giltbrook Leather Works. In the late 1950s, changing facilities moved, to the Miners Welfare Bowling Alley underneath the building, which meant an even longer walk for players and officials! KMWFC have played at Digby Street for 81 years but, it hasn’t been continuous. The club played at the Wolsey Sports Ground for 1 season, 1974/75 (situated were Sainsbury’s Car Park now is, in Kimberley Town Centre), because the construction of the new A610 Eastwood & Kimberley Bypass took away part of the ground and made it unusable. 1982 was a key year in the history of the club as the present chairman Neil Johnson took on the role of chairman from his father. It wasn’t until the 1995/6 season that changing facilities were provided on the ground. A £7,500 grant from the National Lottery, and an equivalent generous donation from Chairman Neil Johnson, enabled the club to buy, transport and erect, the unwanted changing rooms from Calverton Cricket Club. This was around the time of the clubs most successful period on the pitch under the leadership of Paul Horry Kimberley won all 4 trophies available to them. Paul Horry left and was replaced on a caretaker basis by Steve Hobster. Don Munn took charge before the appointment of George Hulley. The joint management of Alf Stacey & Steve Towle took charge in the early 2000s. The pair resigned a few years later when Kimberley then turned back to the successful George Hulley who remained in charge until 2014 standing down following the clubs best season in a decade, finishing runners up in the Notts Senior League and gaining promotion to the East Midlands Counties League, the highest level the football club have ever played at. In 2014 KMW appointed Paul Rawden and Dino Labbate as the clubs new first team management. In the summer of 2015 the club made a number of changes off the pitch with Brian Franks and Malc Burton as well as the appointment of a New Secretary and Development Officer. In September 2015 Paul Rawden resigned his position and was quickly replaced by ex Ashby and Stapenhill Manager Tony Hemmings. Despite a positive start results turned and club parted company with Hemmings. Club Captain Martin Lench was appointed as Manager alongside the long serving Andy Miller until the end of the season. The duo retained the clubs EMCL Status. In June 2016 Welfare announced the appointment of Ian Deakin as joint manager together with Martin Lench. The season was a success with two cup quarter finals and an 8th place finish securing FA Cup Football for the first time in the clubs history. Deakin stood down at the end of the season and the club moved to appoint the experienced team of Andy Alls, Luke Humphries and John Humphries to lead the club into the new season.

The club currently consists of three adult teams and a youth team. The first team play in the East Midlands Counties League, with the Reserves in the Leicestershire Senior League Premier Division. In the 2008/2009 season the club formed a Youth Team (Under 18’s) side who play in the Leicestershire Midweek Floodlit Youth League on Wednesday nights. A Sunday team was re-introduced for this season and they play in the Burton Sunday League Division Four. The club also has a large number of junior sides ranging from Under 7’s through to Under 18’s who play in the Burton Junior Football League, Tamworth Junior Football League and the Derby City League. The junior section came after the club merged with the David Hunt Soccer School at the beginning of the 2009/2010 season. In February 2004, Ashby Ivanhoe became an FA Charter Standard football club. The club is very ambitious and has plans to progress further up the league pyramid system. The club is run by an experienced management team and enjoys the support of some very prestigious commercial partners. Ashby Ivanhoe had one of their most successful seasons in 2010/2011 as they completed a league and cup double by winning the Leicestershire Senior League by nine points and also lifted the Coalville Charity Cup for the very first time after producing a superb second half comeback to beat Bardon Hill 3-2 in the final. They have also reached successive Leicestershire Senior Cup finals in 2011/2012 and 2012/2013 but had to settle for runners-up on both occasions losing 3-1, firstly to Ibstock United and then Aylestone Park. The 2013/2014 season saw the first team achieve a long-term ambition as they won promotion into the Step 6 East Midlands Counties League for the 2014/2015 season after finishing third place in the Leicestershire Senior League. It was a close title race with the top three all finishing level on points with Ashby third on goal difference. The Reserves were also promoted to the Leicestershire Senior League Division One. 2014/2015 saw Ashby compete at Step 6 of the non-league pyramid for the first time and they had a very good season and secured a top six finish in the East Midlands Counties League which featured victories against all of the sides above them. The Reserve side were involved in a tight title race and it went down to a last day decider against Lutterworth Athletic Reserves but despite the result going against them on the day they were still promoted for the second season in succession and would play at Step 7 in the Leicestershire Senior League Premier Division for 2015/2016.

ASHBY IVANHOE FC CLUB HISTORY 2015/2016 saw Ashby have another fine season and they mounted a strong title challenge and they led the East Midlands Counties League for the majority of the season before finally finishing in third place. That saw them assured of a first ever appearance in the FA Cup for the 2016/2017 season. Last season was the most memorable in the history of Ashby Ivanhoe Football Club. For the very first time in the clubs history they were accepted to play in the most famous club competition in the world, The FA Cup. It turned into a thrilling journey with higher ranked opponents of Quorn and Loughborough Dynamo knocked out before Ashby fell to Ilkeston in the 1st Qualifying Round. Prior to the Ilkeston defeat Ashby received a visit from the FA Cup which was paraded through the town centre visiting local sponsors before players and spectators had the opportunity to view the cup at the NFU Sports Ground. The league season was inconsistent with a strong finish to the season seeing the team finish in tenth place. The season did end with a first appearance in the final of the Jenkins & Jenkins League Cup but Dunkirk overturned a one goal deficit late on to see Ashby end as runners-up. The new season sees a new management team at the helm of the club with Glyn Andrews and Craig Picknell joining the club from Friar Lane & Epworth with the aim of achieving promotion to Step 5.
