Today’s match will be seen by some as a local derby and our team will have to not let Ellistown’s league position dictate that it will be an easy game as I am sure it won’t be so we will need to approach the game in the right frame of mind if we are to secure all 3 points. The last home game saw our biggest crowd of the season with over 175 spectators watching. The atmosphere around the ground was fantastic and the Finance Manager had a smile on his face with the gate receipts. Unfortunately we didn’t get to celebrate a home goal as the team ran out 0-3 to a good St Andrews team. I write these notes ahead of the away trip to Borrowash Victoria and I am sure the team will be desperate to get back to winning ways and carry on the fight to the end for the highest place possible. Today we welcome one of newest sponsors to the ground – SAUK and hope that they can secure us a victory on their first visit to the ground and we thank them for their support and sponsorship. As the season starts to draw to a close keep your eyes peeled on the website and facebook for games that are being played here at the NFU and come along and support the various teams playing here over the coming weeks. We have also been selected to host 2 semi finals, a men’s final and will also host the Burton Junior Football League youth finals this season, another milestone in the clubs history and great that we are being recognised as a ground that can host these finals too. I would like to thank all of our supporters for your continued support of the team both home and away. It gives me great pleasure to see so many of you watching the team and I know that the players are very appreciative too as there’s nothing better than having great support encouraging you from the sidelines. All that remains is to wish our players well today and hope we all are in for a good game. Stuart Bonser Club Chairman PS – If you are visiting the ground by car please DO NOT OBSTRUCT the junction to Cambrian Way by parking on the grass/path verge as this is both dangerous and you could get a fixed penalty notice from the Council and or Police.

FIRST TEAM UPDATE Good afternoon and welcome to the home of Ashby Ivanhoe FC. May I extend a very warm welcome on behalf of the Club to everyone attending today’s match and in particular the players, officials and supporters of our opponents Ellistown & Ibstock United. The home defeat to St Andrews has seen the momentum firmly swing in favour of our friends from Canal Street. Our future is no longer in our own hands which is bitterly disappointing but we have to bounce back with renewed energy and make sure we maximise our return from the remaining games to capitalise on any potential slip ups from St Andrews, South Normanton and Radford. Once again last Saturday’s game highlights the fine margins in football and sport in general. Having weathered the first 15 minutes when we were chasing shadows we got on top and were gradually working up a head of steam, hitting the bar, only to be pegged back by an exceptional 35 yard shot that was worthy of winning any football match. Goals change football matches and credit must go to St Andrews who completely stifled us in the second half and ran out deserved winners. As a club we should be striving to play at the highest level possible and there is no doubt if the chance presents itself that is what Ashby Ivanhoe should do. The club has made great strides in recent years and people behind the scenes have worked tirelessly to raise the standards and facilities at the NFU. To venture into the Step 5 of the Pyramid and compete successfully provides a new set of challenges, requires a different mind-set and general level of resource. There is an argument that there is a right time to make the jump and if you go too early it can be detrimental to the Club in the longer term. Maybe the experiences of two clubs not so far from us provide a testament to that argument. The league table was always going to tighten up and credit to the clubs around us for putting fine runs together and I am sure there will be plenty of twists and turns in the coming weeks. Our opponents today have struggled this season but provided us with a stern challenge in the away fixture way back on August Bank Holiday Monday. Local derbies are always tight affairs. As we impress on the players every week the performance and result of the game lies within our changing room, in football to be challenged is inevitable but to be defeated is optional. It’s time to push on and close out the season on a high. We are a work in progress and progress we will. Thank you for your support and enjoy the game. MATCH ACTION VS ST ANDREWS ASHBY IVANHOE 0-3 ST ANDREWS EAST MIDLANDS COUNTIES FOOTBALL LEAGUE SATURDAY 19TH MARCH 2016 Ashby Ivanhoe were knocked off the top of the East Midlands Counties League for the first time since the end of August as fellow title challengers St Andrews won 3-0 at the NFU Sports Ground to take over at the summit. A record crowd of 175 saw a clash between the top two with the visitors taking the lead after 30 minutes before sealing the three points with two goals inside the final ten minutes with Ashby hitting the bar and having a shot cleared off the line during the match. Both sides had a chance at goal inside the opening 15 minutes with firstly a free kick to Ashby was dangerously played into the area from Chris Waldrum and an effort at the back post had to be turned behind and the chance for St Andrews saw a ball into the box headed goalwards which cleared the bar. Ashby had a great chance to open the scoring on 18 minutes when top-scorer Danny Quinn found himself behind the visiting defence and with just the keeper to beat there was too much power on the shot which cannoned back off the underside of the bar before being cleared away. The opening goal of the contest came on the half hour mark and it was a superb strike from Shay Brennan who from around 35 yards saw the opportunity to beat the Ashby keeper who was slightly off his line and he couldn’t of struck the shot any better with the ball flying into the top corner for one of the best goals seen at the NFU Sports Ground. The remainder of the first half and the first 30 minutes of the second half saw a cagey affair with neither team testing the opposition keeper but inside the final ten minutes of the match the points were put beyond the home side. Firstly on 82 minutes it was Brennan again who just had Chris Hodge to beat and he made no mistake to double the away side’s advantage. Ashby had a chance to set up a thrilling finish with four minutes remaining when a ball into the area was sent goalwards only to be cleared off the line by the St Andrews defender and in the final minute the third and final goal of the match was scored when a ball to the back post was passed backwards before being finished well by Robert Morgan. The 3-0 defeat saw Ashby slip to third place in the table following Radford’s victory and with six matches remaining Ashby find themselves a single point off the new leaders but having played two games more and will be hopeful of a slip up or two in the closing weeks of the season. Theybeaten remained that and thanks for yourwinning support. the result didn't our way we were 3-0inby a very division, apartthe from a single (1971/1972) Division Two, the top flight, now good St Andrews side. Anyway season is season not over yet and ifinwe can win allwinning our remaining games we still renamed the Premier Division, twicematches more – 1986/1987 might stand a chance of winning the league. Seven left to theand end1988/1989. of the season with 3 at home and 4 away. Can we do it? Of course we can but it is down to us and we must win all our remaining games.
They then joined the Midland Combination Premier Division, staying there for five seasons until they became a founding member of the local Midland Alliance where they remained untilUnited resigning from league innear January Later So to today’s derby against Ellistown & Ibstock who arethe currently the2002. bottom ofthat the table year theya joined the Leicestershire Senior League and were as runners-up intobut the our Premier having P28, W6, D3 and L19 although I’m sure it willpromoted be another tough game boysDivision. will winInitthe and 2007/2008 season, they of the Midland Football Alliance, but after a fire ravaged their home stadium my forecast to-day is awere 3-0 members win. the club was forced to close down. IN OPPOSITION TODAY ELLISTOWN & IBSTOCK UNITED Ellistown & Ibstock Utd were formed in June 2013 following a merger between Ibstock Utd and Ellistown FC and are now entering their second football season. The club's first season being the most successful in either of the founding clubs history, finishing in 3rd place of the East Midlands Counties League, qualifying for the FA Cup, FA Vase and Westerby Cup and also booking a place in the final of the Coalville Charity Cup. The club play their 1st Team games in the East Midlands Counties League at Terrace Road in Ellistown and The Welfare Ground in Ibstock plays host to the Leicestershire Senior League fixtures of the Reserve Team outfit. The brand new club have maintained the official partnerships that Ibstock United formed in 2012 with Touchline Sports and the Matt Elliott Football Development Scheme with the management and coaching unit that goes with it. The former Ibstock management team of Richard Hill and Paul Brown remain in the management hot seat with the coaching staff that Hill assembled in the 2012/13 season. Through the Matt Elliott Football Development Scheme, the club hosts a number of Academies and Development Centres held in conjunction with the football club. The news of the merger was first announced by the two long serving Chairmen of the respective clubs, Andy Roach and Neil Costello. Andy Roach, formerly of Ellistown FC is Chairman of the new organisation and his counterpart, Neil Costello is now vice-Chairman in the re-formation.

ASHBY IVANHOE FC CLUB HISTORY Ashby Ivanhoe Football Club was founded in 1948 and play their home matches at the NFU Sports Ground, Lower Packington Road, Ashby de la Zouch in Leicestershire. This is the clubs new home from the beginning of the 2012/2013 season. Since being founded in 1948 up until the end of the 2011/2012 season the clubs previous home was at Hood Park also in Ashby de la Zouch. The club currently consists of four adult teams and a youth team. The first team play in the East Midlands Counties League, with the Reserves in the Leicestershire Senior League Premier Division. In the 2008/2009 season the club formed a Youth Team (Under 18’s) side who play in the Leicestershire Midweek Floodlit Youth League on Wednesday nights. A Sunday team was re-introduced for the 2012/2013 season and they play in the Burton Sunday League Division Three. For 2015/2016 a third Saturday side has been formed who will play in the North Leicestershire Football League Division One. The club also has 11 junior sides ranging from Under 9’s through to Under 17’s who play in the Burton Junior Football League, Tamworth Junior Football League and the Derby City League. The junior section came after the club merged with the David Hunt Soccer School at the beginning of the 2009-2010 season. In February 2004, Ashby Ivanhoe became an FA Charter Standard football club. The club is very ambitious and has plans to progress further up the league pyramid system. The club is run by an experienced management team and enjoys the support of some very prestigious commercial partners. Ashby Ivanhoe had one of their most successful seasons in 2010/11 as they completed a league and cup double by winning the Leicestershire Senior League by nine points and also lifted the Coalville Charity Cup for the very first time after producing a superb second half comeback to beat Bardon Hill 3-2 in the final. They have also reached successive Leicestershire Senior Cup finals in 2011/2012 and 2012/2013 but had to settle for runners-up on both occasions losing 3-1, firstly to Ibstock United and then Aylestone Park. The 2013/2014 season saw the first team achieve a long-term ambition as they won promotion into the Step 6 East Midlands Counties League for the 2014/2015 season after finishing third place in the Leicestershire Senior League. It was a close title race with the top three all finishing level on points with Ashby third on goal difference. The Reserves were also promoted to the Leicestershire Senior League Division One. 2014/2015 saw Ashby compete at Step 6 of the non-league pyramid for the first time and they had a very good season and secured a top six finish in the East Midlands Counties League which featured victories against all of the sides above them. The Reserve side were involved in a tight title race and it went down to a last day decider against Lutterworth Athletic Reserves but despite the result going against them on the day they were still promoted for the second season in succession and will play at Step 7 in the Leicestershire Senior League Premier Division for 2015/2016.
