CHAIRMANS WELCOME Good afternoon and welcome to today’s match against our visitors Blaby and Whetstone FC and may I extend a warm welcome to the players, officials and spectators of Blaby and Whetstone FC and hope that we all enjoy a good match. Well 5 games in and the management team and players stay on an un-beaten run with the last game against Holwell in the League Cup seeing us battle out a 2-1 victory to take us closer to the final which would be a great achievement amongst others this season. I must congratulate Lee and Steve for the work they have been putting with the players and how they have been fair, honest and transparent when giving all players the opportunity to cement their place in the squad going forward. It is often a challenge when there is a change but the players have responded well and I hope we now have players that want to play for the club and for Steve and Lee and be part of what we are doing together. All of our Junior teams will be in action this weekend too so if you haven’t yet had a chance to watch one of the teams that represent Ashby Ivanhoe FC just a reminder that we have the 11’s, 12’s and 16’ playing on Hood Park on Saturday mornings with the 16’s and 18’s on a Sunday am/pm. On Western Park we have the 13’s, 14’s and 15’s on a Saturday morning and the 2 x 14’s on Sundays am. Our current 7’s, 8’s, 9’s and 10’s play in Burton each week but we are moving to bring them in line with home and away fixtures next season so Ashby will be a sea of blue all over town at weekends from next season. Whilst we are on the Junior teams that represent Ashby Ivanhoe FC, I would like to send huge congratulations to the players of our under 15’s who have made it through to the cup final beating Mickleover Sports last weekend 8-3 on home soil so well done boys and credit goes to their coaches too in Jack Fargher, Phil Windridge and Roger Jones and I would like to think we will all be there to cheer them on in the final when the date is announced. The under 15’s are also challenging for the league but as we know the season isn’t done until its done so keep focussed boys and keep doing the things that enable you to win games and work hard as a team. Stuart Bonser Club Chairman Ps – if you are visiting the ground by car please DO NOT OBSTRUCT the junction to Cambrian Way by parking on the grass/path verge as this is both dangerous and you could get a fixed penalty notice from the Council and or Police.

FIRST TEAM UPDATE Good afternoon and welcome to the NFU Sports Ground for this afternoon’s league game against Blaby & Whetstone Athletic FC. We would like to welcome all those connected with Blaby & Whetstone Athletic and hope you have a safe journey home. Well we are now four games in to our new tender as managers at Ashby and have had a decent start winning two and drawing the other two games. The lads are really taking on board on what we want to get across in terms of how we want to play which is very encouraging - “keep it going lads!!” Whilst we have started ok the most pleasing thing is we are now starting to keep clean sheets which are the foundations that we will build on. It’s very important for us to continue picking up points even in the games where we are not scoring. Today’s game is going to be a hard one, as Blaby are one of the top teams in this division and boast one of the league’s top strikers in Aaron Preston as well as other good players. This game will really test how we are doing and be the yard stick we can really measure ourselves against in terms of where we are as a group. To our supporters, your support has been great and we would like to say thank you - this really helps the lads. Enjoy the game. Steve Titterton & Lee Attenborough First Team Management

EAST MIDLANDS COUNTIES FOOTBALL LEAGUE SATURDAY 26TH NOVEMBER 2016 _______________________________________________________________________________________ ASHBY IVANHOE LINE-UP: Tom Oliver, Conor Bennett, Evan Cawley, Sam Johnson, Tom Rowell, Ryan Pearce, Luke Thorogood, Daniel Edwards, Luke Edwards, Royce Turville, Ben Betteridge SUBSTITUTES USED: Jake Conkay, Josh Riley ATTENDANCE: 65 _______________________________________________________________________________________ Ashby Ivanhoe and visitors Arnold Town had to settle for a share of the spoils after an entertaining game ended in a goalless draw. Arnold Town had the better of the opening twenty minutes without really threatening Ashby keeper Tom Oliver before Ashby had two chances to open the scoring on 25 minutes when firstly a shot from Tom Rowell was saved by the keeper and from the resulting corner a header from Royce Turville was cleared off the line. Ashby were the width of the post away from scoring on the half hour mark when a superb long range effort from Luke Edwards left the keeper standing only to see the ball strike the inside of the post and away to safety. The final chance of the first half fell to the home side and after an Arnold defender failed to clear the ball Ashby’s top scorer Luke Thorogood reacted quickest but his shot across goal was wide of the far post. The second half saw Ashby start well and within five minutes of the restart they had a couple more really good chances with Thorogood seeing his shot go wide before a shot from Edwards was dragged wide when in a good position. Ashby continued to create chances and on 53 minutes a brilliant through ball found Edwards in on goal but the Arnold keeper closed the Ivanhoe player down to block the shot from the edge of the area. Midway through the second half and Ashby were awarded a free kick in a threatening position and after Thorogood’s effort was saved by the keeper the follow up shot from Edwards from a tight angle struck the outside of the post. In the final twenty minutes Ashby hit the woodwork for the third time in the match when from a corner a shot from Rowell came back off the crossbar and the Arnold keeper produced another fine save to keep the scores level when a cross into the area was headed goalwards and the keeper at full stretch turned the ball away. The final chance of the match with ten minutes remaining saw Ashby’s keeper forced into making a fine save when a long range effort was tipped over the bar and it was one of those games where neither defence was going to be breached with the match ending in a 0-0 draw.

IN OPPOSITION TODAY BLABY & WHETSTONE ATHLETIC Whetstone Athletic F C was founded in 1928 playing in the Leicester City League until 1967 when they were elected to Division One of the Leicestershire Senior League. The Club achieved promotion as runners-up in 1971 & 1975, but unfortunately relegation followed on both occasions. The club moved from the Warwick Road Recreation Ground in 1993 to maintain their Senior League status with that saw a name change to Blaby and Whetstone Athletic F.C. The club integrating with the boys club structure, who were running sides from U8 to U17, an Old Boys side on Sundays and a midweek floodlit U18 side. Upgrading of the facilities took place, including, dugouts, concrete hard standing and post rails quickly turned the boys club ground up to the required standards and with a combined effort from the boys club, the social club and the whole football section of the club raised sufficient funds with the aid of a football grant to have the lights erected to ensure promotion could take place. This was topped off with promotion to the Premier League as runners up in 2000. Premiership status was secured in the first year and the following year saw a 6th place finish, also seeing the side through to its first Senior Cup semi-final, although it was 2-1 loss to Loughborough Dynamo. Things were looking up at the club and a great run in the FA Vase seeing us through to the third round proper but were defeated by Studley away. Our first taste of success at the new ground came in 2004/05 with a Battle of Britain win defeating Thurnby Rangers in the final. The side continued to keep their head above water but a change was needed and the committee decided that it was time to nurture and retain the youth already playing at the club at U15, U16 &Youth levels. For too long we had been a breeding ground for other clubs to prise away our players. The 07/08 season saw the team led by Andy Purple; with the influx of the younger players mixed with experience saw the Club gain two cups, the Jelson Homes Senior Cup and the Leicestershire Senior League Cup, both firsts for the Club. The reserves also finished runners up in the Combination League Division One, so a really good year. It was hoped to be topped off with promotion to the new East Midlands Counties League but we missed out on goal difference in the final game of the season as Ibstock gained a point at Saffron to take the last promotion spot. The following year we missed out on promotion finishing runners up in the league to Anstey Nomads. Unfortunately Andy did not continue in the manager’s role for 09/10 season and the job was given to Lee Harriman. Hopes were high as there was a lot of pedigree with his management career. Despite a run in the Vase beating Meir KA and Malvern Town, we were beaten 1-0 by Boldmere St Michaels, the league form began to suffer and we were just holding on to 3rd place but defeat in the last game again saw us miss out on promotion again, as Thurmaston Town league winners ground was not to standard, runners up Leicester Constabulary were folding and Thurnby Nirvana were promoted in third place. Further ground improvements meant that at the time we were the only team to have the next level facilities. Lee continued in the 2010/11 season as manager and although he strengthened the squad it again was to be a struggle in a very competitive league. Through a difficult season the team managed 3rd place and with the top 2 not having the ground requirements Blaby finally gained promotion. vs Blaby & Whetstone Athletic | Saturday 10th December 2016 | www.ashbyivanhoefc.com

Season 2011/12 saw a new manager, Steve Orme, bringing in his new management team and some new players and some players returning to the club that had left in previous seasons. A first season in the EMCFL saw us finish a reasonable 12th place, although with a bit more consistency and scoring a few more goals we may have finished higher. Season 2012/13, Steve continued at the helm and with some new signings hopes were high for a top 6 spot. 2012/13 also saw the club enter the FA Cup for the first time. A fine away win at Spalding 2-1 was followed by a home win against Heanor. Eastwood were the next opponents and a creditable 1-1 draw away was followed by an exit in the replay at home 3-1. An early exit at home to Sleaford in the FA Vase meant the league work could now begin. It looked at one point as 3rd spot was within the teams capabilities but despite 2 semi final defeats, in the FA Senior Cup (by default) and the League Cup, followed by the resignations of the Assistant Manager and the Coach, the team finished in 6th spot. The jewel in the crown for season 2012/13 was our reserve side with a fitting swan song to our long standing managers and stalwarts of the club Mitchell Warner and Neil Kitchen winning the league in their last season in charge. Season 2012/13 was also the last season for secretary, Sue Warner, after 15 years at the club has decided to step down. Season, 2013/14, saw Blaby & Whetstone achieve their most successful season to date. Under the leadership of Steve Orme, the first team achieved their highest league position in the EMCL, finishing fourth in the league. A great run in the FA Cup saw the club reach the second preliminary round for the first time. The season finale saw the club play at the home of Leicester City Football Club to clinch the Westerby Cup for the first time in our history. The first team success rubbed off on the reserve team and saw them clinch the Leicestershire Senior League Division One title under the leadership of Gaz Allen. Season 2014/15 saw Blaby off to a good start in the League but could not re-produce the form in the Westerby Cup and went out to St Andrews in Round 1. Winning the Westerby Cup last season earned the right to face a Leicester City XI at Holmes Park and after putting in a good performance, they finally went down 4-2. The FA Cup run was again at the fore and 3 wins should have been 4 at home to a lacklustre Stourbridge side who squeezed a draw and comfortably won the home replay 4-1. Having seen off Radford in the FA Vase, Borrowash were the visitors and in a very winnable game Blaby threw a 1-0 lead away going down 2-1. An early finish in the League Cup meant Blaby were clear to concentrate on the League and were top some 4 points clear but a spell in the New Year saw that lead crumble away and had to gain points in the last few games to hold on to 5th spot. Disappointment overall but Steve Orme continues in charge this season and with some new signings and nearly all of last season’s squad is confident Blaby will be up there again. The reserves in the Leicestershire Senior League Premier for the first time looked to be heading for a top 3 finish but fell short and were hit with a 3 point deduction for not for filling a fixture which knocked them down to 5th spot. A good season and Gaz and Rob will be hoping to build on that for the new season. A poor start to the 2015/16 season saw Blaby in the bottom 4 which was made worse with early exists from the FA Cup, FA Vase and the Westerby Cup. A league run of 11 undefeated games saw Blaby to a more respectable league position and a good run to advance to the Semi Final of the League Cup came to an end with defeat to Aylestone Park and with that saw the league from slip and a final 7th spot marked a disappointing end to the season. It was however good enough to get us into this year’s FA Cup. 2016/17 sees manager Steve Orme adding to his management team with James McCullock joining as coach and players such as Warren Butlin, Ash Day, James Ireland and Jake Wain being added to his already strong squad will hope for a better start to the season and hopefully be up there challenging for top spot with some progress in the FA games as well. 26

ASHBY IVANHOE FC CLUB HISTORY Ashby Ivanhoe Football Club was founded in 1948 and play their home matches at the NFU Sports Ground, Lower Packington Road, Ashby de la Zouch in Leicestershire. This is the clubs new home from the beginning of the 2012/2013 season. Since being founded in 1948 up until the end of the 2011/2012 season the clubs previous home was at Hood Park also in Ashby de la Zouch. The club currently consists of four adult teams and a youth team. The first team play in the East Midlands Counties League, with the Reserves in the Leicestershire Senior League Premier Division. In the 2008/2009 season the club formed a Youth Team (Under 18’s) side who play in the Leicestershire Midweek Floodlit Youth League on Wednesday nights. A Sunday team was re-introduced for the 2012/2013 season and they play in the Burton Sunday League Division Three. For 2015/2016 a third Saturday side has been formed who will play in the North Leicestershire Football League Division One. The club also has 11 junior sides ranging from Under 9’s through to Under 17’s who play in the Burton Junior Football League, Tamworth Junior Football League and the Derby City League. The junior section came after the club merged with the David Hunt Soccer School at the beginning of the 2009-2010 season. In February 2004, Ashby Ivanhoe became an FA Charter Standard football club. The club is very ambitious and has plans to progress further up the league pyramid system. The club is run by an experienced management team and enjoys the support of some very prestigious commercial partners. Ashby Ivanhoe had one of their most successful seasons in 2010/11 as they completed a league and cup double by winning the Leicestershire Senior League by nine points and also lifted the Coalville Charity Cup for the very first time after producing a superb second half comeback to beat Bardon Hill 3-2 in the final. They have also reached successive Leicestershire Senior Cup finals in 2011/2012 and 2012/2013 but had to settle for runners-up on both occasions losing 3-1, firstly to Ibstock United and then Aylestone Park. The 2013/2014 season saw the first team achieve a long-term ambition as they won promotion into the Step 6 East Midlands Counties League for the 2014/2015 season after finishing third place in the Leicestershire Senior League. It was a close title race with the top three all finishing level on points with Ashby third on goal difference. The Reserves were also promoted to the Leicestershire Senior League Division One. 2014/2015 saw Ashby compete at Step 6 of the non-league pyramid for the first time and they had a very good season and secured a top six finish in the East Midlands Counties League which featured victories against all of the sides above them. The Reserve side were involved in a tight title race and it went down to a last day decider against Lutterworth Athletic Reserves but despite the result going against them on the day they were still promoted for the second season in succession and will play at Step 7 in the Leicestershire Senior League Premier Division for 2015/2016.
