FIRST TEAM MANAGEMENT
I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and a belated Happy New Year to you all. At half time today we will be having our Chairmans Crossbar Challenge. The Challenge is open to adults and children and costs just £2 per go for adults and £1 per go for under 16’s with all proceeds going to the clubs development fund. To enter simply give your name into the Media Centre and be available at Half Time to take part. If you manage to hit the crossbar then you receive a £10 drinks token for adults and a £5 drinks token for under 16’s. As I look forward into 2015 I am excited at the prospect of continuing to move the football club forward off the field. Whilst we have achieved so much in the short period we have been at Lower Packington Road, it remains my belief that we can be a “club of choice” in many ways in the years ahead. The focus remains to drive the football club forward in a professional and sustainable manner and I am confident that we can achieve this with the support we currently receive from volunteers, spectators, coaches, commercial partners and players. During the early months of 2015 keep your eyes on the various social media sites and the website for more information of how we aim to make Ashby Ivanhoe FC the club of choice and if you would like to “get involved” then please drop me an email at info@ashbyivanhoefc.com as we can never have enough people who all want the same for the football club.
RESERVE TEAM MANAGEMENT
I have been asked over the last few weeks as to whether we will be applying for promotion to Step 5 and the answer is yes we have applied and all that remains is to keep focussed on winning football matches and whilst I have no direct influence on that I am sure that we can all play our part in continuing with the fantastic support that the team receives as I know it really does act as a 12th man.
UNDER 18S MANAGEMENT
Last Saturday saw the first piece of silverware won at the NFU with the Under 12’s Knights winning their League, congratulations to the team and the Coaches, Ian Irving and Darren Wearmouth.

FIRST TEAM UPDATE I would like to give a warm welcome to the players and club officials of Greenwood Meadows FC and also wish them all a Happy New Year. Since our last encounter, which we won away 1-0, Greenwood have signed a number of new players. Therefore, I believe that today’s match will be a difficult encounter and it will be difficult to predict the outcome as we have had a number of fixtures cancelled over the festive season so our players won’t be as sharp as I would like them to be. Reflecting on the first half of our league campaign could be described as disappointing because we have under achieved and must do better in the second half. Therefore, in my opinion the first team squad should be in a stronger position in the league than they are currently. From the middle of November, we have gone from having the second best defensive record to a defensive record that I’m ashamed of and I’m hoping the players are too.
Tony Hemmings Sponsored by
The above must change and collectively, the players and the first team management team need to work hard to regain our drive up the league table. However, a number of mitigating circumstances have played their part in how we are training the players and how much we can work on issues that arise in games in order to continue our strong drive up the league. Firstly, we have no longer got a full size pitch to train on as the lights have been moved from Hood Park to the club, therefore, we all have to manage with training on the small area at the ground, which restricts what we can and cannot do as a squad. Secondly, several of our players don’t turn up for training and the knock on effect is that other players have begun to share the same attitude because why should they make the effort when other players don’t - a childish and amateurish behaviour! We had an exceptional October: we worked hard to gain the advantage, and the players mainly listened to instruction given, which enabled the team to win 3 points. However, the problem with having a good run of form is that the players begin to believe their own hype; they stop listening because they think they know more. Players started looking at the league table and the talk of winning the league is in everyone’s conversation; psychologically we have all lost our focus, which needs to be amended. It’s also frustrating when you see all the clubs around you, who are paying a wage or expenses to players, who are able to address their weakness by attracting players with money and we’ve been trying to address ours all season. It seems as though I’m miles away from developing Ashby into a formidable force. However, myself and my management team are fighters and we will continue to work hard to achieve our main aim. I hope you all enjoy today's game. Anthony Hemmings First Team Manager

RESERVE TEAM UPDATE ASHBY IVANHOE RESERVES 3 Gibson 3, Ellis 6, OG 68
INGLES 2 Smith 28, Reid 85 Leicestershire Senior League Division One Saturday 20th December 2014 Ashby Ivanhoe Reserves closed the gap at the top of the Leicestershire Senior League Division One to three points as they defeated Ingles, leaders at the start of play, 3-2 with goals coming from Phil Gibson, Michael Ellis and an own goal. Ingles made it a tense finish with a goal ten minutes from time before John Noon produced a superb save in the dying seconds to secure the points. Ashby made the best possible start to the match and they were two goals to the good inside the opening six minutes. The first goal came in the third minute when a free kick was awarded just inside the Ingles half and the kick was sent towards the area from Rob Avins which found Phil Gibson and he directed a looping header back across goal and into the far corner of the net. And that advantage was quickly doubled on six minutes when a cross into the area from the left found Michael Ellis on the edge of the area and he controlled the ball well before sending his shot beyond the keeper and into the bottom corner for his fourth goal in two matches following his hat-trick against Anstey Town. The visitors had their first chance at goal on 11 minutes when the striker got behind the Ivanhoe defence but his shot across goal was wide of the far post before Ashby almost made it 3-0 on twenty minutes when Gibson had a chance for a second goal of the match but his effort was headed off the line. Midway through the first half Ingles had another chance to reduced the deficit but after beating a defender the forward pass resulted in a shot at goal which was straight at keeper Noon who made a comfortable save. The visitors did pull a goal back on 28 minutes when they were awarded a penalty after a player was brought down inside the area and despite Noon diving the right way and getting a hand to the ball the penalty found the bottom corner to make it 2-1. Ingles then dominated the remainder of the half but they couldn’t find an equaliser and Ashby went in at the break in front. The second half was evenly matched before midway through the half Ashby restored their two goal advantage when a powerful low cross into the area from the left was turned into his own net by a defender to make it 3-1. Ingles were pushing forward looking for a way back into the match and with ten minutes remaining they reduced the advantage back to one when the ball was fired home from close range to set up a tense finish. Ashby were then trying to run down the clock but Ingles managed to win possession before breaking forward and when the ball fell to the striker inside the area it looked destined to find the net and secure a point but Noon produced a fine save to see the ball over the bar and Ashby hung on for the final couple of minutes to secure a valuable three points.

UNDER 18S UPDATE It’s been a quiet few weeks for the Youth team with the last game before Christmas at home against Ibstock United Youth being postponed before a two week break over the Christmas and New Year saw us without any action until the Wednesday just gone (unless that was postponed) and with the first team match over Christmas also falling victim to the winter weather I will again update you on the games the Youth Team played during December. At the start of December we lost our first game of the season in the County Cup Quarter Final against Oadby Town although I think that the spectators present at the NFU that night would agree that the sending off 20 minutes into the game denied all of a cracking tie. Even with 10 men we kept on level terms until we were caught on the break. We returned to winning ways a week later with a convincing 8-1 win away at GNG with the inform James Grice scoring two cracking 30 yard strikes. We are currently top of the league so let's hope that we can carry on at what we've started in the second half of the season and we play our first home match of 2015 this coming Wednesday (weather permitting) against Birstall United Youth. Wishing Tony and the boys all the best for today’s game. Alex Roome Under 18s Manager

DOWN MEMORY LANE WITH MOG Well last weeks' downpours left us with no Ivanhoe game to watch last Saturday, never mind it was the 3rd round of The FA Cup so at least we could settle down and watch a couple of games in "the greatest cup competition in the world" .....wrong! No live games on the Saturday & I and many others cannot understand why, what a shambles! Never mind the "magic" will surely be brought to our screens on Sunday ........wrong! I don't have BT Sport (can't justify that AND Sky) so missed the first 2 games which were good choices but the BBC chose to go with Arsenal vs Hull, "a repeat of last year's final", no less or just a chance to watch 2 Premier League reserve teams go through the motions for a regulation Arsenal victory. "The magic of The FA Cup" I don't think so! Fair enough we did at least get AFC Wimbledon vs The Mighty Reds on Monday night but even then we had the shambles of the 4th round draw being made before 4 of the ties had even been played, the final 2 ties were on the Tuesday night for goodness sake, what is going on? So there we are, rant over, but between them The FA & the BBC (who could manage numerous preview programmes & A Question of Sport & Pointless FA Cup specials, yet couldn't show a game on a Saturday?) seem intent to mess about with our greatest cup competition and one that Ashby Ivanhoe aspire to qualify for, for the first time next year. Let's hope the weather is kinder today and that Tony and the boys can capture our first 3 points of 2015. My wish for 2015, we qualify for The FA Cup, we win through the 28 (guessing) qualifying rounds and we host The Mighty Reds at The NFU, Stevie G returns as a "one off" to nullify the threat of Sting in midfield and Sharpy scores a last minute winner in a 5-4 classic albeit live on the BBC on a Wednesday morning ............ nurse another cup of tea please! Enjoy the game. Dave Morris Club President

ASHBY IVANHOE FC SUPPORTERS CLUB A warm welcome to everyone here today for Ivanhoe’s East Midland Counties match against Greenwood Meadows here at the NFU Sports Ground. Not much football over the Christmas period with the two scheduled matches at home vs Gelding Miners Welfare and away at South Normanton Athletic being called off. So to todays match against Greenwood Meadows who are currently bottom of the league and with not much more to say my prediction is a 4-1 win for the Ivanhoe. The Reserves are away today at Thurnby Nirvana Reserves and a win today would see them continue to put pressure on the rest of the teams at the top end of the table. Good luck to all our teams this weekend and may I wish you all a belated Happy New Year and don’t forget if you have any comments regarding the club please e-mail me at mh.buckley@btinternet.com Mick Buckley - Supporters Club Chairman

ASHBY IVANHOE FC CLUB HISTORY Ashby Ivanhoe Football Club was founded in 1948 and play their home matches at the NFU Sports Ground, Lower Packington Road, Ashby de la Zouch in Leicestershire. This is the clubs new home from the beginning of the 2012/2013 season. Since being founded in 1948 up until the end of the 2011/2012 season the clubs previous home was at Hood Park also in Ashby de la Zouch. The club currently consists of three adult teams and a youth team. The first team play in the East Midlands Counties League, with the Reserves in the Leicestershire Senior League Division One. In the 2008/2009 season the club formed a Youth Team (Under 18’s) side who play in the Leicestershire Midweek Floodlit Youth League on Wednesday nights. A Sunday team was re-introduced for the 2012/2013 season and they play in the Burton Sunday League Division Two. The club also has 11 junior sides ranging from Under 9’s through to Under 17’s who play in the Burton Junior Football League, Tamworth Junior Football League and the Derby City League. The junior section came after the club merged with the David Hunt Soccer School at the beginning of the 20092010 season. In February 2004, Ashby Ivanhoe became an FA Charter Standard football club. The club is very ambitious and has plans to progress further up the league pyramid system. The club is run by an experienced management team and enjoys the support of some very prestigious commercial partners. Ashby Ivanhoe had one of their most successful seasons in 2010/11 as they completed a league and cup double by winning the Leicestershire Senior League by nine points and also lifted the Coalville Charity Cup for the very first time after producing a superb second half comeback to beat Bardon Hill 3-2 in the final. They have also reached successive Leicestershire Senior Cup finals in 2011/2012 and 2012/2013 but had to settle for runners-up on both occasions losing 3-1, firstly to Ibstock United and then Aylestone Park. The 2013/2014 season saw the first team achieve a long-term ambition as they won promotion into the Step 6 East Midlands Counties League for the 2014/2015 season after finishing third place in the Leicestershire Senior League. It was a close title race with the top three all finishing level on points with Ashby third on goal difference. The Reserves were also promoted to the Leicestershire Senior League Division One.
