Without focussing too much on today’s opposition, I am sure that today’s game will be one of our toughest tests so far this season as South Normanton were, in my opinion, one of the tougher sides we played last season and have the same desire as us to move forward as a club. Today’s game also celebrates Non League Day, an initiative brought in by the FA to encourage spectators who would normally go and watch league teams to venture out and watch their local team (due to the International break) and we welcome any league supporters that are watching us for the first time and hope that you enjoy the game and the standard produced at the lower levels of the pyramid and grassroots football. Whilst on the subject of grassroots football, I wanted to share with you all that we have achieved a record number of junior players signing for the club this season and established 3 new teams along the way which is a real credit to the reputation we are now building as a club. Our focus remains on creating a clear pathway for player development at each age at the club which will ultimately benefit the seniors in years to come. The challenge of establishing this system is to continue to communicate our vision with our coaches and parents and ensure that we are all on the same page and I am proud to say that, largely, we are. Having my son playing in the under 11’s at the club gives me the opportunity to watch how other teams approach grassroots football and it still appals me at times as to the behaviour of some clubs coaches and parents towards their players and own children. If we are to ever develop footballers the way the FA wants us to then the FA need to engage with grassroots clubs more and find positive and pro-active ways of stamping out the behaviour that I witness each week. We all want to encourage our kids to do well but constant shouting will ultimately have the opposite effect with our kids I believe. My view is and always will be to let the coaches coach and let the kids play and during this season we will be bringing in an initiative called a “silence day” which will just let the kids play and enjoy the game without coaches or parents saying a word – I will report on whether it worked. I would like to thank all of our supporters for your continued support of the team both home and away. It gives me great pleasure to see so many of you watching the team and I know that the players are very appreciative too as there’s nothing better than having great support encouraging you from the sidelines. All that remains is to wish our players well today and hope we all are in for a good game. Stuart Bonser Club Chairman

FIRST TEAM UPDATE Good afternoon and welcome to the home of Ashby Ivanhoe FC. May I extend a very warm welcome on behalf of the Club to everyone attending today’s match and in particular the players, officials and supporters of our opponents South Normanton Athletic. So we embark on our sixth consecutive home game, not the greatest piece of planning by the League but we take it as it comes. Saturday’s performance lacked energy but emphasised the importance of keeping a compact defensive shape throughout the team as Holbrook had large chunks of possession without ever threatening our goal, I can’t recall Hodgey having to make a save in anger. The message to the player’s after the match was we need to raise the intensity of our play as currently we are cruising through games waiting for each other to take the initiative and produce a game changing moment. At some point soon our opponents will take advantage of this and punish us, the emphasis week in week out is to be bold and impose our game on the opposition. The squad is beginning to settle down and with the run of home games I think everyone has got used to the surroundings at the NFU. Given that 16 of the 27 players we have used in the first team are new to the club I think the players can take great credit in the start they have made. With respect to today’s game, our visitors are one of the fancied sides in this League and will provide our sternest test yet. Our aim is to keep the unbeaten run going, maximising the number of points we accumulate in these six home games as we will have tougher challenges on the road in the winter months. Hopefully we can rekindle the fluidity of our first half performance against Holwell, the battling qualities of the Aylestone game and the compact defensive shape of last Saturday to provide an entertaining performance with the desired outcome. Without repeating myself again, to date results have been better than performances which will only take us so far but not ultimately to where we want to be. We are a work in progress and progress we will. Thank you for your support and enjoy the game. Miles Warriner First Team Management Team

MATCH ACTION VS HOLBROOK SPORTS ASHBY IVANHOE 3-1 HOLWELL SPORTS EAST MIDLANDS COUNTIES FOOTBALL LEAGUE SATURDAY 3RD OCTOBER 2015

Ashby Ivanhoe overcame another tough challenge from visitors Holbrook Sports to increase their lead at the top of the table to 12 points with a 3-1 victory. It was always going to be a tough match against a fellow title challenger but first half goals from Danny Quinn and captain Sam Johnson put Ashby in control at the break. The visitors pressed forward in the second half and pulled one back with ten minutes remaining before a close range header from Luke Thorogood sealed a seventh straight victory for Ashby. The first chance of the match came inside the first five minutes when Quinn was fouled on the edge of the Holbrook area and Chris Waldrum curled the free kick around the defensive wall with the ball just going the wrong side of the near post. Ashby then came under a spell of pressure from the visitors and after seeing this through it was the home side who opened the scoring midway through the first half when Thorogood in a central position slotted the ball through the Holbrook defence for Quinn and from the right he rifled a shot across goal and into the far corner of the net. Quinn had a chance to double Ashby’s advantage just after the half hour mark but when the ball was played back to him the shot cleared the crossbar but five minutes before the break and Ashby did find themselves two goals up when a free kick just inside the Holbrook half was launched forward by Waldrum deep into the area and towards the far post and with the keeper coming out to claim the ball it was Sam Johnson who got to the ball first to power home a header and send Ashby in at the break with a 2-0 lead. The second half saw Holbrook put an increasing amount of pressure on the Ashby defence and just past the hour mark they had a chance to reduce the deficit when a shot across goal was just wide of the far post but the pressure did finally pay ten minutes from time when a cross into the area from the left was met by a header at the back post which beat Ashby keeper Chris Hodge. This set up a nervy last ten minutes as Ashby were looking to hold on against a team who now sought an equaliser but with a minute of the match remaining the fourth goal of the match was the decisive one for Ashby as they restored their two goal advantage when Quinn received the ball inside the six yard box and after seeing his shot blocked he retrieved the ball before putting a dangerous ball back into the six yard box and from close range Thorogood headed the ball home to secure the three points and Ashby had again come through another tough match with three points and today’s match looks another tough encounter as fifth placed South Normanton Athletic visit the NFU Sports Ground. ASHBY IVANHOE FC SUPPORTERS CLUB THE OPPOSITION

A warm welcome to everyone here for today’s 1st team East Midlands Counties League match at the NFU Sports Ground STAPENHILL against South Normanton Athletic. They were formed in 1947 and ten years after formation they joined the Leicestershire Senior League Two andatfound success, in of their debut I arrived back from holiday lastDivision Friday evening 11pmimmediate and was then up on gaining Saturdaypromotion at the crack dawn for aseason quick and the Division championship in theonfollowing two seasons. remained in that breakfast and then offwinning to Marstons in BurtonOne to watch the U8s, then to Stapenhill to watch They the U10s and then to the division, apart from a single in Division Two, winning the top flight, now NFU for the 1st team game against Holbrook Sports, season I must(1971/1972) be mad. renamed the Premier Division, twice more – 1986/1987 and 1988/1989. Having missed three matches while on holiday it was nice to return and find we were still unbeaten, and after last Saturday’s They then joined the Midland Combination Premier Division, staying there for five seasons until they became a founding match against Holbrook Sports (our biggest challenge so far) we remain so after a well earned 3-1 victory with goals from member of the Midland Alliance where they remained until resigning from the league in January 2002. Later that Danny Quinn, Sam Johnson and Luke Thorogood. It is also nice to see that the management team keeping the lads heads on year they joined the Leicestershire Senior League and were promoted as runners-up into the Premier Division. In the the ground and striving keep members improvingof performances workingAlliance, hard at training sessions with thetheir players. 2007/2008 season, theytowere the MidlandbyFootball but after a fire ravaged home stadium the club was forced to close down. The club reformed in 2009 and rejoined the Leicestershire Senior League and gained So to today’s against Derbyshire sideseason. South Normanton Athletic and as I write this report currently 5th in the league promotion tomatch the EMCL in the 2012/2013 losing just once, 3-2 at Anstey Nomads, so today’s opponents should provide a good test for our lads and my prediction is a 3-0 win for Ivanhoe. Honours East Midlands Counties Football League Runners-up: 2013/2014 Unfortunately the reserves lostChampions: 3-2 at Blaby1958/1959, in the League Cup last week while there was no game for the development Leicestershire Senior League 1959/1960, 1986/1987, 1988/1989, 2006/2007 team. If any of our junior coaches e-mail me details of any of their matches it would be nice to report them in this column.

IN OPPOSITION TODAY SOUTH NORMANTON ATHLETIC Football was first played at Lees Lane in the 1926/27 season playing under the name of South Normanton Miners Welfare, and progressed to the Central Alliance Football League and after into the Sutton and Skegby League. The nickname ‘Shiners’ derives from the mid 1750’s when South Normanton was at the heart of the ribbed stocking industry. The people involved in this craft worked long hours sitting at their windows on wooden stools, so much so, that the backsides of their trousers became very shiny making them instantly recognisable as coming from the South Normanton area and since then local people have been referred to and called ‘Shiners’. Under the new name South Normanton Athletic joined the Central Midlands Football League in the 1990/91 season. The clubs first major success came in the 1993/94 season when they finished runners up in the Premier Division. This gained them promotion to the Supreme Division. The club made their first entry into the FA Vase in the 1994/95 season. In the 1996/97 season disaster struck when the old changing rooms were destroyed by fire. The clubs future lay in the balance and with limited time available members of the committee virtually worked round the clock to convert a derelict building into suitable changing rooms, which at the time were intended to be for a temporary period only the leagues deadline for completion was accomplished with little time to spare. At the end of the 1996/1997 season, the club was relegated due to the 3 year flood light installation rule not being met; funds set aside to complete this project had been spent in establishing new changing rooms. The floodlights were completed in 1998 and the club was reinstated back into the Supreme Division. The team’s best position being 3rd which a promotion place was awarded. The club was promoted to the Northern Counties East League for the start of the 2003/04 season where they played till the club decided to fold at the end of the 2007/08 season due to an ageing committee and no new blood coming to the club. We have now reformed the club with a new committee, management and players. For the first time in a long while there is an air of optimism and expectancy of bigger and better things to come at Lees Lane. As one of the old committee members said “it’s just nice to see football being played here again”. That enthusiasm bore fruit last season when the club were promoted to Step 6 of the football pyramid and were accepted into the East Midlands Counties League. We hope to keep the momentum going and hopefully achieve further success. The clubs reserve team were also accepted into the Nottingham Senior League in season 2014/15 to open another chapter in the clubs history.

ASHBY IVANHOE FC CLUB HISTORY Ashby Ivanhoe Football Club was founded in 1948 and play their home matches at the NFU Sports Ground, Lower Packington Road, Ashby de la Zouch in Leicestershire. This is the clubs new home from the beginning of the 2012/2013 season. Since being founded in 1948 up until the end of the 2011/2012 season the clubs previous home was at Hood Park also in Ashby de la Zouch. The club currently consists of four adult teams and a youth team. The first team play in the East Midlands Counties League, with the Reserves in the Leicestershire Senior League Premier Division. In the 2008/2009 season the club formed a Youth Team (Under 18’s) side who play in the Leicestershire Midweek Floodlit Youth League on Wednesday nights. A Sunday team was re-introduced for the 2012/2013 season and they play in the Burton Sunday League Division Three. For 2015/2016 a third Saturday side has been formed who will play in the North Leicestershire Football League Division One. The club also has 11 junior sides ranging from Under 9’s through to Under 17’s who play in the Burton Junior Football League, Tamworth Junior Football League and the Derby City League. The junior section came after the club merged with the David Hunt Soccer School at the beginning of the 2009-2010 season. In February 2004, Ashby Ivanhoe became an FA Charter Standard football club. The club is very ambitious and has plans to progress further up the league pyramid system. The club is run by an experienced management team and enjoys the support of some very prestigious commercial partners. Ashby Ivanhoe had one of their most successful seasons in 2010/11 as they completed a league and cup double by winning the Leicestershire Senior League by nine points and also lifted the Coalville Charity Cup for the very first time after producing a superb second half comeback to beat Bardon Hill 3-2 in the final. They have also reached successive Leicestershire Senior Cup finals in 2011/2012 and 2012/2013 but had to settle for runners-up on both occasions losing 3-1, firstly to Ibstock United and then Aylestone Park. The 2013/2014 season saw the first team achieve a long-term ambition as they won promotion into the Step 6 East Midlands Counties League for the 2014/2015 season after finishing third place in the Leicestershire Senior League. It was a close title race with the top three all finishing level on points with Ashby third on goal difference. The Reserves were also promoted to the Leicestershire Senior League Division One. 2014/2015 saw Ashby compete at Step 6 of the non-league pyramid for the first time and they had a very good season and secured a top six finish in the East Midlands Counties League which featured victories against all of the sides above them. The Reserve side were involved in a tight title race and it went down to a last day decider against Lutterworth Athletic Reserves but despite the result going against them on the day they were still promoted for the second season in succession and will play at Step 7 in the Leicestershire Senior League Premier Division for 2015/2016.
