The first team remain top going into today’s game but I am sure the management team will keep the players focussed on the job in hand and not let a good early start for the team create any complacency. For those that may not be aware, our reserve team manager, Craig Savidge, stepped down from his position last week. This was a decision that he made based upon work and family commitments and one that I personally respect. Since he has been in charge of the reserves, they have achieved back to back promotions and now play just one level below the 1st team at step 7 and Craig can be proud of his achievements with the team. However, his time with the club spans back long before his time as the reserve team manager as he has played for the club for a large number of years and remains one of the great “clubmen” that have been associated with the club over many years. I know that Craig will be missed by the players but they now have the platform to progress and I am sure that Craig and his family will be seen around the ground in the coming season watching the games and I would like to thank Craig for his commitment to the club over the time he has been with us. Being a reserve team manager at any level is one of the toughest jobs and in the interim we have appointed Glyn Andrews as a caretaker of the reserves whilst we advertise and interview a suitable candidate and appoint someone that fits with the club philosophy that we are now building and that is to have a clear pathway for players to develop and progress into the highest level of football they can at one club. The club marked another significant step forward last Saturday as the Development Team played their first match and came out 2-1 winners. The team has been taken by Jamie Appleby and he has worked hard to attract players to represent the club and maintain the clubs philosophy, well done Jamie. All of our junior teams kick off this weekend and if you are ever at a loose end and want to watch our various teams then keep an eye on the website as we will be represented at 3 grounds in the town this season, The NFU, Western Park and Hood Park. Good luck to all of our teams over this weekend. Great to see more volunteers at the ground last Saturday and my big thanks to Ian Irving, Jane, Graham and Kirsty for helping out in various ways around the ground. All that remains is to wish our players well today and hope we all are in for a good game. Stuart Bonser Club Chairman

FIRST TEAM UPDATE Good afternoon and welcome to the home of Ashby Ivanhoe FC. May I extend a very warm welcome on behalf of the Club to everyone attending today’s match and in particular the players, officials and supporters of our opponents Barrow Town. Well, the Carling is not chilled as the ice has melted! Saturday’s FA Vase exit was disappointing to say the least. When you don’t take your chances and make basic defensive errors, winning games is hard enough, add the desertion of lady luck and the fact that Racing Club Warwick defended as if their lives depended on it, the defeat was on the cards. If we’re honest we have had our fair share of lady luck in the early stages of this season so we can’t complain too much. Onto more positive ground and our narrow one nil victory at Stapenhill was very pleasing for various reasons not least revenge for those who were involved in last season’s fixture when we were subjected to an extremely embarrassing five nil hammering. For the first time this season the state of the pitch meant we could not play our normal game and in all honesty it reduced the game to a potential banana skin against a very committed side with a fair share of ability. The players demonstrated great resilience and adaptability as they played the conditions to a large extent. We are fast approaching a period of the season where players in their infinite wisdom begin to decide for whatever reason they are part or not part of the Management’s plans. This can in some cases lead to irrational thought patterns, for example, believing they are bigger individually than the collective cause. Behaviour can become confused with potential substitutes blindly wandering from the dug-out back to the sanctuary of the changing room after the third substitution has been made in utter disbelief that they have been seemingly ignored. Their ability to control the bottom lip ceases and all sense of time disappears as some can even head for the comforts of home before the final whistle. Whether this is a common trend that has developed over the four seasons we have been out of football management or it is a trait specific to past conduct at Ashby Ivanhoe it is unacceptable. It shows total disrespect to the hard work and commitment of everyone associated with the Club, the supporters who have come to show their support for the team and team mates who are still giving their all out on the pitch not to mention those who are disappointed not to have even made the sixteen. Probably the saddest aspect is a total ignorance to the fact that by watching the game they may actually learn something which will develop them as a player. To my knowledge no one has totally mastered football and you can never stop learning. On the flip side there are players who have not got on, in some cases in more than one game but who have shown respect and dignity despite the obvious disappointment. They have set the standard going forward. With respect to today’s fixture, let’s hope we can build on the hard work and efforts of the last few weeks and produce an entertaining performance with the desired outcome. To date results have been better than performances which will only take us so far but not ultimately to where we want to be. We are a work in progress and progress we will. Thank you for your support and enjoy the game. Miles Warriner First Team Management Team vs Barrow Town | Saturday 12th September 2015 | www.ashbyivanhoefc.com

MATCH ACTION VS RACING CLUB WARWICK ASHBY IVANHOE 0-2 RACING CLUB WARWICK FA VASE 1ST QUALIFYING ROUND SATURDAY 5TH SEPTEMBER 2015 Ashby Ivanhoe put in a dominant performance in the 1st Qualifying Round of the FA Vase but they failed to convert their chances which saw visitors Racing Club Warwick to a 2-0 victory. The visitors saw an early penalty saved by Luke Hemingway before they edged in front on 20 minutes. Ashby spent the whole of the second half camped in the opponents half before a breakaway goal two minutes from time saw Ashby's hopes ended. The first chances of the match came inside the opening five minutes and they both came for Ashby who had begun the game on the front foot and with just 60 seconds on the clock they were awarded a free kick in a promising position just outside the area and the shot which was on target was spilled by the

keeper only for him to gather at the second attempt before shortly after striker Danny Quinn received the ball from Royce Turville and his shot across goal was again saved by the keeper who failed to hold on but the loose ball couldn’t be turned home. On 13 minutes the visitors were given a great chance to open the scoring when a long ball forward resulted in the Ashby keeper Luke Hemingway coming off his line to challenge for the ball and with the Racing Club Warwick going to ground the referee pointed to the spot. The penalty though was straight down the middle and Hemingway made a fine save before the loose ball was cleared. The first goal of the match came on twenty minutes and it was the visitors who took the lead when the ball was played out to the left from halfway inside the Ashby half before a low cross into the area saw the striker receive the ball and he took a touch before sending a shot low into the bottom corner out of reach of Hemingway. On the half hour mark Ashby had a great chance to level the scores when the ball was played into the area and was brought down well by Quinn and after turning towards goal his shot from around 12 yards was deflected agonisingly wide and it remained 1-0 to the visitors at the break. 8

MATCH ACTION VS RACING CLUB WARWICK At half time Ashby switched things around by making two substitutions as they looked to get back into the match and they totally dominated the second half with the first couple of chances coming within five minutes of the restart when firstly Quinn took the ball beyond a defender before striking a powerful shot towards the near post which the keeper was equal to but he couldn’t hold onto the ball which ran back into the centre of the area where Luke Thorogood was waiting but he blazed his shot over the bar. Ashby continued to pile on the pressure and just before the hour mark they had two chances in quick succession cleared off the line. The first came after Quinn had beaten a defender and from close to the goal-line he cut the ball back into the area and the resultant shot which cleared off the line and seconds later a corner was played into the area and the header looked destined for the net after beating the keeper but a defender on the line headed clear.

With fifteen minutes remaining and with Ashby still looking for the equaliser they were awarded a free kick just outside the area and the ball was struck powerfully towards goal and was heading towards the far top corner before it swerved away from goal and just wide of the post. Despite having all the pressure though Ashby were caught on the break four minutes from time when the ball was quickly passed forward by the visitors and a shot across goal found the bottom corner of the net to double the visitor’s advantage. Ashby still battled on until the final whistle but they just couldn’t find a goal and their FA Vase hopes are over for another year. RESERVE TEAM UPDATE As you are probably all aware by now I decided to resign from my position of AIFC reserve team manager last week. Having originally planned to call it a day last season - I felt I wanted to carry on following last year’s promotion and give it another crack. My circumstances have however changed somewhat since, as I have taken a new job which holds fantastic career opportunities for me. Unfortunately though, what comes with the job is that I will be spread all over the UK during the week, meaning I will have less and less time to get to training, let alone the numerous midweek games we now have due to being in a larger league. This new position will also not give me quite as much ‘spare time’ as my current one - meaning that I will struggle for example on say Mondays and Fridays to be texting people sorting out squads etc. Added to this, the wife is also returning to work following her maternity period this month, meaning that I will need to spend more time and concentrate on my family with the time I have spare rather than football – again, especially during the week. The be all and end all is that, basically due to these family and work commitments, I will not be able to give enough time to the reserves as I feel the job ultimately requires. It’s been 3/4 great years as manager, and almost 20 yrs in total as a player, I will miss it greatly, but it really is now the right time to give someone else a crack! I will still be in the shed end and down the club whenever I can cheering the lads on. All the best to you all for the remainder of this season, and for the future of the club. Craig Savidge

UNDER 9s MANAGEMENT OPPORTUNITY Ashby Ivanhoe FC are on the lookout for a manager to work alongside another manager with the Under 9's team based at the Central venue of Burton Washlands on a Saturday morning. The current manager can only commit to 2 or 3 Saturday's out of every month so this would be a great opportunity for someone to work alongside someone else in a joint capacity and share match day responsibility. If anyone would be up for the challenge or knows someone who is then please get in touch. vs Barrow Town | Saturday 12th September 2015 | www.ashbyivanhoefc.com

DEVELOPMENT TEAM UPDATE Following on from two successful friendlies which saw the Development team beat Market Bosworth and Loughborough FC Reserves 4-1 in each game the newly formed Development Team opened their league account on Saturday 5th September, at home to league opposition Anstey Crown FC. Early exchanges were evenly matched until the visitors broke the deadlock with a slightly fortunate and freakish goal which left Ashby keeper Sam Deacon floundering and the defence remonstrating with the officials that the ball had actually gone out of play. Never the less the goal stood and Ashby quickly bounced back with a bullet header from Phil Gibson to level on the half hour mark. Ashby then took the lead moments before half time when Michael Ellis unleashed a vicious shot from 25 yards into the top corner to take a deserved lead into the interval. The second half was dominated by Ashby with Phil Gibson rounding off a superb team goal only to be wrongly given offside. The game finished 2-1 in Ashby’s favour which was a little flattering on the visitors although it must be said Ashby’s keeper Sam Deacon pulled off a fine double save to keep the visitors at bay. Early signs are very encouraging and the squad is coming together with a healthy blend of solid established senior players and youthful energetic youngsters willing to listen and learn. This weekend sees the Development team take on Sutton Bonington who should provide a stern test to our new recruits. Judging by the numbers of players signed on it looks as if squad rotation and competition for places will be inevitable. Jamie Appleby AIFC Development Team Manager

IN OPPOSITION TODAY BARROW TOWN Football in Barrow upon Soar has its' origins in the late 19th century. The population of the village at that time would have numbered around 1000, compared with around 7000 today. The team, known as the Barrow Rising Stars were based at The Railway Inn (now the Soar bridge), and played their football near the Mill. Members of the Loughborough and District League, they were obviously formidable opposition as their record shows they were winners of Division 1 in 1901/02 and 1902/03 and also Division 2 champions in 1911/12. Cup success included the Bass Charity Cup, Rolleston Cup, and the County Cup. In one particular season four trophies came their way. The early years of the century saw the birth of the Old Boys (now Barrow Town). This team also played down "Mill Lane", and comprised mainly of boys from the village grammar school, their record though did not compare with the stars. Immediately prior to the First World War another Barrow team, The Trinity were gaining prominence. Also members of the Loughborough and District League Division 1, they rivalled the stars as top team from the village. Other members of the league at that time were Quorn Havelock, Quorn Emanuel, and no less than four teams from Sileby (Imps, Excelsior, Amateurs and Vics). A referee's match fee in 1913 was 2/6d and football boots 6/- per pair (30p). Trinity FC had an illustrious spell from 1918 onwards and during an 18 year period picked up a league championship, the league cup, and the Rolleston Cup. The Trinity's glories could not last and 1930 saw the emergence of 'The Gunners' and 'Barrow Athletic', The Old Boys reappearing in 1932. The Old Boys were members of the Leics. Mutual League and for a while were based at Cotes Road, before moving to North Street and joining the Loughborough Alliance. After the Second World War, The Old Boys reformed in 1947 and following a public meeting at the Working Men's Club, entered the Leicestershire Senior League with immediate impact. They reached the semi-final of the Senior Cup but were beaten by Whitwick Colliery. The competition also included Leicester City Reserves. In 1968/69 The Old Boys finished runners-up in Division 2 and were promoted to what was then Division 1. Managed by much respected local man Billy Williamson, they were also winners of The Loughborough Charity Cup and The Sileby Cup, (later renamed The Billy Williamson trophy in his honour). Soon after Barrow moved to their current headquarters at Riverside Park under the new title of Barrow Town. The success of 1968/69 was emulated by the team of 1992/93 managed by two more local favourites Arthur Chadburn and Colin Sykes. This team gained promotion to the Premier Division as champions. The 1994/95 season was a landmark in Barrow's history with a number of records being broken. Highest ever placings for the 1st and 2nd teams. Ian Hunter's haul of 61 league and cup goals. 119 goals scored, with an 18 game unbeaten run-in, culminating in being pipped to the Premiership title by one point. The team again consisted of the nucleus of the promotion winning side, under the same successful management team.

IN OPPOSITION TODAY In recent years, the club has grown in stature and maintained their Premier Division status. Three times winners of The Loughborough Charity Cup, defeating Coalville 3-1 in 1996/97, Ibstock 1-0 in 1998/99 (the competition's centenary year), and under Richard Pitman defeating Shepshed Dynamo on penalties in 2000/01 after the teams were locked at 2-2 after extra time. Riverside Park has undergone several improvements in recent years, most notably the addition of floodlighting for both the main pitch and training area; a new clubhouse and changing rooms; a 50 seater grandstand; covered standing paddock; and new dugouts. The recent amalgamation of all junior, youth and senior teams makes Barrow Town one of the largest football organisations in the county that now caters for soccer from under eight to senior level.

ASHBY IVANHOE FC CLUB HISTORY Ashby Ivanhoe Football Club was founded in 1948 and play their home matches at the NFU Sports Ground, Lower Packington Road, Ashby de la Zouch in Leicestershire. This is the clubs new home from the beginning of the 2012/2013 season. Since being founded in 1948 up until the end of the 2011/2012 season the clubs previous home was at Hood Park also in Ashby de la Zouch. The club currently consists of four adult teams and a youth team. The first team play in the East Midlands Counties League, with the Reserves in the Leicestershire Senior League Premier Division. In the 2008/2009 season the club formed a Youth Team (Under 18’s) side who play in the Leicestershire Midweek Floodlit Youth League on Wednesday nights. A Sunday team was re-introduced for the 2012/2013 season and they play in the Burton Sunday League Division Three. For 2015/2016 a third Saturday side has been formed who will play in the North Leicestershire Football League Division One. The club also has 11 junior sides ranging from Under 9’s through to Under 17’s who play in the Burton Junior Football League, Tamworth Junior Football League and the Derby City League. The junior section came after the club merged with the David Hunt Soccer School at the beginning of the 2009-2010 season. In February 2004, Ashby Ivanhoe became an FA Charter Standard football club. The club is very ambitious and has plans to progress further up the league pyramid system. The club is run by an experienced management team and enjoys the support of some very prestigious commercial partners. Ashby Ivanhoe had one of their most successful seasons in 2010/11 as they completed a league and cup double by winning the Leicestershire Senior League by nine points and also lifted the Coalville Charity Cup for the very first time after producing a superb second half comeback to beat Bardon Hill 3-2 in the final. They have also reached successive Leicestershire Senior Cup finals in 2011/2012 and 2012/2013 but had to settle for runners-up on both occasions losing 3-1, firstly to Ibstock United and then Aylestone Park. The 2013/2014 season saw the first team achieve a long-term ambition as they won promotion into the Step 6 East Midlands Counties League for the 2014/2015 season after finishing third place in the Leicestershire Senior League. It was a close title race with the top three all finishing level on points with Ashby third on goal difference. The Reserves were also promoted to the Leicestershire Senior League Division One. 2014/2015 saw Ashby compete at Step 6 of the non-league pyramid for the first time and they had a very good season and secured a top six finish in the East Midlands Counties League which featured victories against all of the sides above them. The Reserve side were involved in a tight title race and it went down to a last day decider against Lutterworth Athletic Reserves but despite the result going against them on the day they were still promoted for the second season in succession and will play at Step 7 in the Leicestershire Senior League Premier Division for 2015/2016.
