CHAIRMANS WELCOME Good afternoon and welcome to today’s match against our visitors Greenwood Meadows FC and may I extend a warm welcome to the players, officials and spectators of Greenwood Meadows FC and hope that we all enjoy a good match. I travelled to newly promoted and top of the league West Bridgford last Saturday to watch the team’s first defeat under Steve and Lees management and for those that were there it really could have gone either way and our boys had a good go but credit to West Bridgford as they played well and are a good side. The facilities they have there are great too and I am sure they will push on if it is there desire to do so. The reserve team won again last Saturday and travel to Friar Lane today and I hope they can carry on their winning ways but will be a tough test as Friar Lane have some of our old players and Coach too in Glyn Andrews, so I know they will be up for it and our boys need to go there with the confidence that they can now compete. Since the arrival of Steve and Lee we have seen the introduction of some really positive players who have added value to the team and the changing room which is important in any team sport. With the arrival of new players you also get some players at the club that choose to move on for a variety of reasons. The mandate for Steve and Lee was to galvanise the players and management at the club and get players to understand the role they play and that they are part of a club that does its very best to provide them with an experience like no other. The players at Ashby Ivanhoe don’t get paid to play and whilst other teams in this division do pay their players I remain confident that we can attract the right type of players who want to play for the club not for a pay packet which, in my opinion, is the only sustainable way to build a club and a team. That said I have always been up front about rewarding players for their efforts but this does not always have to be money. For example the seniors get to train at Champneys for their pre-season which is where the likes of England and Brazil have trained in the past before St Georges Park. The fantastic achievements in the FA CUP were down to the whole club pulling together and the players earning the club prize money along the way for which they were duly rewarded with beers and a FREE night out at Manhattans with a private booth, Champagne, shots and beers. The players are the reason why we all do what we do and their efforts never go un-noticed. However, I must go on record to say how football at the higher level has in some ways been a good thing but in many others it has conditioned some players at our level to think that football owes them a living or that everything should be free and that we should just keep wasting money to stroke their egos and one example is a player that has now gone to Shepshed Dynamo who thought that we should pay his fines and took to social media to state he was disappointed at the club for chasing him for fines despite the club earning money from the cup run. Well reality is this Mr Cawley, you got booked not the club, you pay your own fines not the club and as you didn’t pay your fines the club issued a suspension notice to the County FA which will stop you playing football until you do pay your fines, quite simple really. I am sure your boss at work would not pay your parking or speeding fines so why do you think a football club is any different? The statement about earning the club prize money is quite true but why should the club pay one players fines (over £60) and not give every player that played in the Cups the same amount of money that it would have given you? Why? Quite simply it is not sustainable and I for one am not saddened by your departure to another club as we do not need players like you at this club. All that remains is to wish the team well today and hope that we all enjoy a good afternoon of football. Stuart Bonser Club Chairman Ps – if you are visiting the ground by car please DO NOT OBSTRUCT the junction to Cambrian Way by parking on the grass/path verge as this is both dangerous and you could get a fixed penalty notice from the Council and or Police.

FIRST TEAM UPDATE Managers Talk Good afternoon and welcome to NFU sports ground for this afternoon’s league game against Greenwood Meadows FC. We would like to welcome all those connected with Greenwood and hope you have a safe journey home. Well after our fine start being 9 games unbeaten, unfortunately last Saturday we went down 4-2 against top of the league at West Bridgford. A game where we scored first and gave ourselves a good account of ourselves especially in the second half. Games like this when you play the top teams in this division most often come down to what happens in both 18 yard boxes and you always’s need a bit of luck on your side. We now regroup and work hard to put another run of unbeaten games together. The challenge to the players is to beat the last run of 9 games unbeaten “Let’s go again lads!!” Whilst we have started ok the most pleasing thing is we are now regarded as very hard to beat and breakdown by the top teams in this division, I know from talking to other managers of the top sides they don’t fancy playing us! It’s very important for us to continue picking up points and let’s see where we are in the table after the next run of 10 games to then push on further. Today’s game is going to be a hard one, as Greenwood have most recently beaten stapenhill who currently sit Second in the table. This afternoon will be a tough game. This game will be another good test as to how we are doing and one we can really measure ourselves against in terms of where we are as a group. Reference player movements as you may have noticed Evan Cawley has decided to leave us and join Shepshed, Me and Lee were disappointed as Evan has shown us great qualities since we took over back in November, however that is football and we wish him well at his new club. As one player moves on it gives other players an opportunity and chance to claim that vacant shirt. To our supporters, your support has been great and we would like to say thank you- this really helps the lads. Enjoy the game. Ashby had opened up a 2-0 lead in the first half before Holbrook pulled one back just before the break. The second half saw Ashby extend their lead to 4-1 before two goal in the final fifteen minutes set up a close finish. The match started with Ashby on the front foot and within the first minute they had a chance at goal when an effort by Luke Edwards was deflected just wide of the far post and just a few minutes later a shot by Danny Quinn was turned over by the keeper. Ashby were rewarded for their early pressure with the opening goal in the 8th minute when the ball was passed inside the area for midfielder Danny Edwards to run onto and he sent his shot across goal finding the net off the inside of the far post. Ashby doubled their advantage midway through the first half through a well taken goal by Quinn. The ball found the striker inside the area and he chipped the ball over the onrushing goalkeeper for 2-0. Holbrook then started to get themselves back into the match and with ten minutes of the first half remaining their halved the deficit when a cross into the area found a player in the centre of the area and the shot found the bottom corner making the score 2-1 at half time. The start of the second half saw the visitors with an early chance to level the scores but a shot was blocked on the line by an Ivanhoe defender and then on 52 minutes Ashby restored their two goal advantage when Luke Thorogood went past a defender and from just inside the area to the right he sent the ball towards the penalty spot and after Quinn failed to get a shot away the ball fell to Josh Riley and he made no mistake to make it 3-1. Midway through the second half and Ashby increased their lead to 4-1 with the Holbrook keeper having a hand in the goal. The ball was crossed into the area and the keeper failed to gather the ball which ran loose to the feet of Quinn and he was left with a simple finish. The final fifteen minutes of the match belonged to Holbrook as they staged a late comeback. On 76 minutes they reduced the scoreline to 4-2 when a player unmarked on the left side struck a powerful shot which beat keeper Luke Hemingway at his near post. Then inside the final few minutes another chance from the left across goal went just the wrong side of the far post before they scored their third goal in the second minute of stoppage time when a thunderous shot found the roof of the net to set up a tense final couple of minutes. There was to be no more chances through with Ashby holding out for a 4-3 victory which moves them upto 12th in the table.

THE OPPOSITION STAPENHILL They were formed in 1947 and ten years after formation they joined the Leicestershire Senior League Division Two and found immediate success, gaining promotion in their debut season and winning the Division One championship in the following two seasons. They remained in that division, apart from a single season (1971/1972) in Division Two, winning the top flight, now renamed the Premier Division, twice more – 1986/1987 and 1988/1989. They then joined the Midland Combination Premier Division, staying there for five seasons until they became a founding member of the Midland Alliance where they remained until resigning from the league in January 2002. Later that year they joined the Leicestershire Senior League and were promoted as runners-up into the Premier Division. In the 2007/2008 season, they were members of the Midland Football Alliance, but after a fire ravaged their home stadium the club was forced to close down. The club reformed in 2009 and rejoined the Leicestershire Senior League and gained promotion to the EMCL in the 2012/2013 season. ASHBY IVANHOE FC CLUB HISTORY Ashby Ivanhoe Football Club was founded in 1948 and play their home matches at the NFU Sports Ground, Lower Packington Road, Ashby de la Zouch in Leicestershire. This is the clubs new home from the beginning of the 2012/2013 season. Since being founded in 1948 up until the end of the 2011/2012 season the clubs previous home was at Hood Park also in Ashby de la Zouch. The club currently consists of four adult teams and a youth team. The first team play in the East Midlands Counties League, with the Reserves in the Leicestershire Senior League Premier Division. In the 2008/2009 season the club formed a Youth Team (Under 18’s) side who play in the Leicestershire Midweek Floodlit Youth League on Wednesday nights. A Sunday team was re-introduced for the 2012/2013 season and they play in the Burton Sunday League Division Three. For 2015/2016 a third Saturday side has been formed who will play in the North Leicestershire Football League Division One. The club also has 11 junior sides ranging from Under 9’s through to Under 17’s who play in the Burton Junior Football League, Tamworth Junior Football League and the Derby City League. The junior section came after the club merged with the David Hunt Soccer School at the beginning of the 2009-2010 season. In February 2004, Ashby Ivanhoe became an FA Charter Standard football club. The club is very ambitious and has plans to progress further up the league pyramid system. The club is run by an experienced management team and enjoys the support of some very prestigious commercial partners. Ashby Ivanhoe had one of their most successful seasons in 2010/11 as they completed a league and cup double by winning the Leicestershire Senior League by nine points and also lifted the Coalville Charity Cup for the very first time after producing a superb second half comeback to beat Bardon Hill 3-2 in the final. They have also reached successive Leicestershire Senior Cup finals in 2011/2012 and 2012/2013 but had to settle for runners-up on both occasions losing 3-1, firstly to Ibstock United and then Aylestone Park. The 2013/2014 season saw the first team achieve a long-term ambition as they won promotion into the Step 6 East Midlands Counties League for the 2014/2015 season after finishing third place in the Leicestershire Senior League. It was a close title race with the top three all finishing level on points with Ashby third on goal difference. The Reserves were also promoted to the Leicestershire Senior League Division One. 2014/2015 saw Ashby compete at Step 6 of the non-league pyramid for the first time and they had a very good season and secured a top six finish in the East Midlands Counties League which featured victories against all of the sides above them. The Reserve side were involved in a tight title race and it went down to a last day decider against Lutterworth Athletic Reserves but despite the result going against them on the day they were still promoted for the second season in succession and will play at Step 7 in the Leicestershire Senior League Premier Division for 2015/2016.
