Last Saturday was a real credit to everyone involved in the club and for me, a real example of how to operate a club at grass roots level and I am sure that both Dave Holland, Chairman of the EMCFL and Keith Murdoch, Chief Executive of the County FA, who were both present at the game, would echo my comments. With the problem we encountered with the floodlights and the rainfall that came at 12pm, the game could have been in doubt, however we rolled back the years and grabbed a fork and did our best for an hour to fork the pitch and get the game on. We had a crowd in excess of 100 again and this added to a real matchday atmosphere. Then at half time we showed a real example of how we operate “one club” as we were presented with the FA Charter Standard Community Award by Keith Murdoch and were surrounded by dozens of our Junior players and their parents, showing that we have an integrated pathway for players to progress at one club and one day into the first team, which they then went on to watch. After the game the atmosphere in the clubhouse was excellent and spectators and players enjoying watching the big screens as results of Premier League games were coming through. Over all the summary of the day was “that’s the way to do it” and everyone involved at the club should be proud that we have the makings of something real special at Ashby Ivanhoe FC. The flipside is that, for me, football has lost it’s way in many ways and disengaged from reality of what really happens at grass roots level and at clubs like ours. I am sure, like me , that some of you managed to capture the documentary, last week, on the 5 owners of Salford City FC. On a personal note, I really enjoyed the documentary and the FA Cup tie against Notts County (sorry Martin). However, is it yet again, an example of how football has allowed itself to migrate into territory’s of wealth and ignore the grass roots element of the game. The owners have come into a club that is represented by 2 teams, the 1st team and a youth team. They have no Junior teams under the Salford City FC badge which would produce a conveyor belt of players who have an association with the club and rather than stand on the terraces of Salford City, maybe the owners and other officials of the National Game should go to some of the local parks and witness exactly what is going on in grass roots football and the route of the problem that, for me, very few are getting from higher authorities. The FA have brought in their RESPECT campaign and their DNA profile, however I would welcome the opportunity to stand with ambassadors of the game when I am watching my 10 year old son play and let them see how many coaches and parents simply do not get what the FA want them to do. Many Coaches and Parents still think that shouting at kids is a real positive thing to do, but the losers are the players and clubs as national youth leagues and senior leagues are suffering as a direct result because kids are either told they are not good enough or simply just give up as they are tired of being shouted at. On a positive note, our Midweek Under 18’s team have reached the County Cup Semi Final after an extra time victory over Thurmaston last week and the game was an absolute credit to the work that Alex Roome has been doing for a number of seasons now, since we started the Midweek Floodlit Team. All that remains is to thank you for your continued support and to wish our players well today and hope we all are in for a good game. Stuart Bonser Club Chairman Ps – if you are visiting the ground by car please DO NOT OBSTRUCT the junction to Cambrian Way by parking on the grass/path verge as this is both dangerous and you could get a fixed penalty notice from the Council and or Police.

FIRST TEAM UPDATE Good afternoon and welcome to the home of Ashby Ivanhoe FC. May I extend a very warm welcome on behalf of the Club to everyone attending today’s match and in particular the players, officials and supporters of our opponents Gedling Miners Welfare. We played today’s opponents in the reverse fixture on a warm evening back in early August. An evening fixture away from home is always fraught with unmanageable variables such as work commitments, rush hour traffic and limited time to get prepared pre match. So our point in a 0-0 draw was pleasing, having switched the fixture from a home tie in order to give our pitch more time to bed in. We were put under intense pressure for the first fifteen minutes and the crossbar came to our rescue in that period. However, once we settled down we were more than a match for our opponents and we finished the game very much in the ascendency laying siege to the Gedling goal in the last ten minutes. As 0-0 stalemates go this was an entertaining game and the most pleasing aspect was a second clean sheet away from home following the opening day shut out at Radcliffe. A point a piece was in all honesty a fair result for both teams. Last Saturday saw us get back to winning ways on home soil and emphasised how important it is to keep disciplined and focussed on the game rather than venting anger on the officials. Blaby started the game very much on the front foot and we had to defend solidly in the first 10 minutes as they attacked with purpose down their right flank. Our opening goal was a product of some good interaction and movement from our front players with a fine strike to finish from Quinny. The rest of the half was an example of how to self-combust as our opponents harangued the officials totally taking their eye off the game. The keeper getting his marching orders on the half hour compounded their plight and we ran out comfortable winners without really getting out of second gear. The two positives to take from Saturday was firstly a second consecutive clean sheet and secondly we seem to have found a balance in midfield which we have been struggling to replicate when certain players are missing. If nothing else the Graham Street Prims defeat reinforced in the minds of everyone concerned the basics required to compete and perform to the required standard. With respect to today’s game we fully expect the same close game as we got earlier on in the season. Hopefully we can push on from last Saturday’s performance and provide an entertaining display with the desired outcome. Without repeating myself again, to date results have been better than performances which will only take us so far but not ultimately to where we want to be. We are a work in progress and progress we will. Thank you for your support and enjoy the game. Miles Warriner First Team Management Team

MATCH ACTION VS BLABY & WHETSTONE ATHLETIC ASHBY IVANHOE 5-0 BLABY & WHETSTONE ATHLETIC EAST MIDLANDS COUNTIES FOOTBALL LEAGUE SATURDAY 7TH NOVEMBER 2015

Ashby Ivanhoe maintained their eight point lead at the top of the table with a comfortable 5-0 victory over Blaby & Whetstone Athletic. Ashby opened the scoring early on through Danny Quinn before the visitors had their goalkeeper dismissed. From then Ashby quickly increased their lead to 3-0 at the break with another goal for Quinn and Kerr Horn. Quinn completed his hat-trick inside a minute of the second half before an own goal completed the scoring two minutes from time. The first goal of the match came from the first chance when from a throw in just inside the Blaby & Whetstone half the ball was passed to leading scoring Quinn and after taking a touch to bypass a defender he unleashed a shot from 25 yards which found the bottom corner. Ashby had a great chance to double their advantage ten minutes later when a free kick from Chris Waldrum was played into the area and a header from Quinn was heading for the bottom corner until the keeper produced a fine diving save to tip the ball wide of the post. Midway through the half and the visitors were reduced to ten men when the Blaby keeper handled the ball outside of his area and from the resulting free kick Quinn scored his second goal with an unstoppable shot into the bottom corner which the replacement keeper had no chance of saving. It soon became 3-0 on the half hour mark when another free kick from out on the right was played into the area and from close range Horn applied the finish and it remained 3-0 at the break. Ashby started the second half quickly and within 60 seconds they added a fourth goal with again the goal coming from a set-piece when a free kick from Waldrum was met with a glancing header from an unmarked Quinn to complete his hat-trick. Quinn had the opportunity to score his fourth and Ashby’s fifth of the match on 55 minutes when they were awarded a penalty but the spot-kick was saved by the keeper’s legs. It took until the final ten minutes before Ashby scored their final goal of the match. Firstly good play from Jack Ryder nearly resulted in a goal after beating two defenders before his crossed found its way back to him before his shot at goal struck the outside of the post and wide but two minutes from time the scoring was complete when a free kick from Evan Cawley was played into the area and the ball struck a defender before finding the net. The result leaves Ashby still eight points clear after the three teams below all recorded victories. THE OPPOSITION STAPENHILL They were formed in 1947 and ten years after formation they joined the Leicestershire Senior League Division Two and found immediate success, gaining promotion in their debut season and winning the Division One championship in the following two seasons. They remained in that division, apart from a single season (1971/1972) in Division Two, winning the top flight, now renamed the Premier Division, twice more – 1986/1987 and 1988/1989. They then joined the Midland Combination Premier Division, staying there for five seasons until they became a founding member of the Midland Alliance where they remained until resigning from the league in January 2002. Later that year they joined the Leicestershire Senior League and were promoted as runners-up into the Premier Division. In the 2007/2008 season, they were members of the Midland Football Alliance, but after a fire ravaged their home stadium the club was forced to close down. The club reformed in 2009 and rejoined the Leicestershire Senior League and gained promotion to the EMCL in the 2012/2013 season. IN OPPOSITION TODAY GEDLING MINERS WELFARE The Club was formed in 1919, at the same time as the Notts Alliance Football league resumed playing football again after the First World War. In their first Season they finished 3rd in the League and won the League Cup by defeating local side Sneinton FC (now Carlton Town FC) 1-0. At the end of the 1929-30 Season the Club changed its name and became known as Mapperley St. Judes and enjoyed moderate success during this period. During the Second World War they reformed as Gedling Miners Welfare FC and with the restart of football for the 1945-46 Season they went on to win both the Notts Alliance League and Notts Alliance Senior Cup. This was repeated on numerous occasions and this success spilled over into the 1950s, which was the most successful period of the Club. We won the Notts Alliance League and Cup Double many times and at one point remained unbeaten for three Seasons. In the FA Amateur Cup they entertained two of the top sides of the time. Pegasus were the visitors to Plains Road in 1954 and temporary stands were erected all around the Ground to house a crowd of 7,000 plus. Two Seasons later Bishop Auckland visited and the Police put a limit of 10,000 on the Gate. We saw Gedling lose 4-1 to the best amateur team in the country, having missed a penalty at a crucial point in the game. The ‘Bishops’ had six amateur England Internationals on show and the most famous being Bob Hardisty who was the Captain of England. The staggering record attendance at Plains Road, will surely never again be surpassed by a Nottinghamshire amateur Club These were the good times at Plains Road and unfortunately, the Club has not had the same degree of success since then. The lowest point came at the end of the 1998-99 Season when we had been relegated to Division 2 of the Notts Alliance FL. Only three Committee Members remained with only half a kit, half a team and no money, but the next Season saw us bounce back and under the guidance of Vic Hulme, Gedling won the League, Intermediate Cup and were semi-finalists to Retford United in the Notts FA County Cup. At the end of Season 2001-02 Vic stepped aside as Manager and took up the post of Chairman of the Club. This left the way open for the appointment of Duncan Broad and Mark Allison as the management team for the start of the 2002-03 Season. They had the task of building a team to match the ambitions of the Club and this was achieved when at the end of the next Season we applied and were accepted into the Central Midlands Football League, we then gained promotion to the Supreme Division in our first season which was more than we had anticipated. The club spent five years in the Central Midlands Football League under the guidance of Duncan Broad and Mark Allison before they left the Club, to take up appointments with our near neighbours Gedling Town in May 2009. During that time the Ground has seen a remarkable transformation from virtually a ‘Parks Pitch’ to what is now probably the best amateur ground in the area. Since the floodlights, fencing and hard standing was installed, it has had a profound effect on the Club. We have recently staged Notts FA Cup Finals and various representative games, which speaks for its self. We are having seating on one side of the pitch and have plans to extend this to the road side of the ground. We feel that our facilities are starting to match those of local teams like Arnold Town and Carlton Town and as a result, Gedling were starting to put themselves on the map as one of the premier clubs in Nottingham and thus attracting a higher calibre of player into the fold. These facilities stood us in good stead when we applied and were accepted for the start of the 2008-09 season into the newly formed East Midland Counties Football League at Step 6 of the Pyramid System. This promotion has also enabled us to apply to play in the FA Cup. We played and lost away to Westfield FC of the MFA in our first attempt, but have great hopes of progressing further in the years to come. With Dunc and Ally leaving one Gedling club for another, it opened the door for the committee to appoint the respected Craig Maddison as manager in time for the start of the EMCL, where he was joined by ex- professional Calvin Plummer as his assistant. The pair finished their first season with a respectable league position of 8th, winning 15 of the 34 games available. Craig and Calvin had a further season at the helm before deciding to resign their position at the end of the 2009-10 campaign with a better finish of 7th.

IN OPPOSITION TODAY Graham Walker was appointed as manager in the June of 2010 and in his second year in charge took Gedling to a creditable fourth position finishing 4 points behind the champions. In a final game at Derbyshire club Gresley FC a 1-0 victory for the hosts in front of a record-breaking 625 crowd was enough to gain promotion to MFA for Gresley. Graham left the club at the end of the 2010-11 season to join up with Bret Marshall at Retford Town. The committee turned to 1st team coach Lee Boulton to take the managerial reigns who in turn appointed Kuki Morley as his Assistant and Steve Towle as coach. After several difficult results and early exits from the FA Cup and Vase by mutual consent Lee and Kuki stepped down as managers. Committee acted quickly to appoint ex Arnold Town Manager Andy Muldoon as our next manager for the remainder of the 2011-12 season. Andy managed to keep the services of Steve Towle as coach and also brought in the ex Forest duo Bryn Gunn and Calvin Plummer of the Brian Clough era, to assist him. By the end of May 2012 Andy has steadied the ship and the club finished with a respectable points total of 38 and a final league position of 13th. This was enough to persuade Andy and his team to stay for another season, with some new players brought in and a good pre-season behind them optimism was high for the start of the 2012-13 campaign. unfortunately this expectation didn’t really manifest into results so with very little progress being made, Andy felt it was an opportune time to make way for someone else for the start of the 2013-14 Season. The ‘someone else’ who the Committee appointed is Jonathon (Trigger) Simpson who has spent his previous three years managing Southwell City in the CMFL. Prior to that Trigger had played for Radcliffe Olympic and Gedling under Duncan Broad, So he knows the Club well and just the type of young manager the club were looking to appoint, we were delighted when he accepted our offer of management. The first season for Jonathon and his assistant Mark Foster was really one of transition, both for the club and them as managers, but sound solid decisions being made as the season progressed, with the team finishing a reasonable 12th with 42 points. This is something Jonathon is keen to build on for the 2014-15 Season and the prize of an FA Cup place being the main target. So we are all looking forward to a successful campaign this season, and a squad capable of competing at this level, the training sessions have never been so well attended, we can all see progress is being made, and we are confident that Trigger and his team will deliver. They will be backed up by the Committee and everyone at the Club to produce a team that we can all be proud of.

ASHBY IVANHOE FC CLUB HISTORY Ashby Ivanhoe Football Club was founded in 1948 and play their home matches at the NFU Sports Ground, Lower Packington Road, Ashby de la Zouch in Leicestershire. This is the clubs new home from the beginning of the 2012/2013 season. Since being founded in 1948 up until the end of the 2011/2012 season the clubs previous home was at Hood Park also in Ashby de la Zouch. The club currently consists of four adult teams and a youth team. The first team play in the East Midlands Counties League, with the Reserves in the Leicestershire Senior League Premier Division. In the 2008/2009 season the club formed a Youth Team (Under 18’s) side who play in the Leicestershire Midweek Floodlit Youth League on Wednesday nights. A Sunday team was re-introduced for the 2012/2013 season and they play in the Burton Sunday League Division Three. For 2015/2016 a third Saturday side has been formed who will play in the North Leicestershire Football League Division One. The club also has 11 junior sides ranging from Under 9’s through to Under 17’s who play in the Burton Junior Football League, Tamworth Junior Football League and the Derby City League. The junior section came after the club merged with the David Hunt Soccer School at the beginning of the 2009-2010 season. In February 2004, Ashby Ivanhoe became an FA Charter Standard football club. The club is very ambitious and has plans to progress further up the league pyramid system. The club is run by an experienced management team and enjoys the support of some very prestigious commercial partners. Ashby Ivanhoe had one of their most successful seasons in 2010/11 as they completed a league and cup double by winning the Leicestershire Senior League by nine points and also lifted the Coalville Charity Cup for the very first time after producing a superb second half comeback to beat Bardon Hill 3-2 in the final. They have also reached successive Leicestershire Senior Cup finals in 2011/2012 and 2012/2013 but had to settle for runners-up on both occasions losing 3-1, firstly to Ibstock United and then Aylestone Park. The 2013/2014 season saw the first team achieve a long-term ambition as they won promotion into the Step 6 East Midlands Counties League for the 2014/2015 season after finishing third place in the Leicestershire Senior League. It was a close title race with the top three all finishing level on points with Ashby third on goal difference. The Reserves were also promoted to the Leicestershire Senior League Division One. 2014/2015 saw Ashby compete at Step 6 of the non-league pyramid for the first time and they had a very good season and secured a top six finish in the East Midlands Counties League which featured victories against all of the sides above them. The Reserve side were involved in a tight title race and it went down to a last day decider against Lutterworth Athletic Reserves but despite the result going against them on the day they were still promoted for the second season in succession and will play at Step 7 in the Leicestershire Senior League Premier Division for 2015/2016.
