Good afternoon and welcome to todays first home team match of the new season against our visitors Borrowash Victoria and may I extend a warm welcome to the players, officials and spectators of Borrowash and hope that we all enjoy a good match. For those of you that may not already know, we were awarded the programme of the year for last season by the EMCFL and in my view and that of many others, rightfully so. However this would not of been possible without the production hours and time spent by Matthew Lester and a huge well done goes to Matthew and the award is for you and well deserved. As many of you will be visiting the ground for the first time since the end of last season you will see many more remarkable improvements that have been carried out over the course of the Summer break. We have moved the portacbin, created a new player walk way, extended the hard standing area, fenced of the ground from the clubhouse, new media shed location, extended the covered accommodation, re-decorated changing rooms, flooring, drainage and all of which makes me extremely proud and appreciative of the volunteers that, yet again have transformed the ground into what you see today. The hours that they have put in deserves significant recognition and my thanks go to Mark Pepper, who yet again has been instrumental in making the work happen. He has been supported by his grafters, Dave Morris, John Emerson, Ryan Morris and even a showing from Mark Sladen. The concrete and paving and brickwork has been completed with enormous help again from Darren Wearmouth and Stan Ward. The redecoration has been completed by one of our junior coaches, Ian Irving and he has made a massive contribution. Thank you to you all. As you will also see we have many more sponsors advertising around the ground and our strong Commercial support continues to grow. Please support our sponsors and visit our website where you will find new initiatives and exclusive offers from the many businesses who support the club. The NFU have kindly renewed their sponsorship of the ground for a further 5 years which is huge boost and all of existing sponsors have renewed their support which helps tremendously with the clubs financial stability and growth. I will update you all on the tremendous growth in our junior section too in coming programmes and the establishment of our new Soccer School and Holiday Courses. All that remains is to officially welcome Miles, Jose and Andy to their first home game as our new management team and I know that they will have prepared the team well for todays game. The management team are also joined by Marie, who is our new Club Physio and Glyn who joined us again in a new role of Head of Football Development. Don’t forget the reserves are at home this coming Tuesday so please come along and add your support to them too. Hope you enjoy the game. Stuart Bonser Club Chairman

FIRST TEAM UPDATE Good afternoon and welcome to the home of Ashby Ivanhoe FC. May I extend a very warm welcome on behalf of the club to everyone attending today’s match and in particular the players, officials and supporters of our opponents Borrowash Victoria. Pre-season has been a somewhat nomadic existence with the NFU out of bounds due to ground renovation and we have found ourselves rotating between Champneys, North Warwickshire & Hinckley College, Western Park, Hood Park and the big roundabout up by Tesco’s. Not an ideal scenario but credit to the players, they have applied themselves admirably. To date we have retained 30 of the 63 players registered last season and brought in 17 new signings. Player recruitment and then more importantly development is a continuous “work in progress” and we have areas that need strengthening which we will address over the coming months. Since the start of pre-season way back on June 20th we have trained 3 times a week and the friendly games have seen some encouraging signs notably against clubs who play a couple of standards higher. However, these games, as we all know are “phoney wars” and we shall hopefully see over the coming months positive performances in competitive games which have developed as a result of the hard work put in by the players throughout pre-season. Our mantra as a Management Team is to work hard to develop individual and team dynamics on the training pitch that improve performance on a Saturday afternoon. Nine times out of ten if the performance is right and improving, results should take care of themselves. All we demand of the players is that they listen and trust the methodology/tactics we apply and reciprocate the hard work, commitment and transparency we demonstrate week in week out. Sounds easy! Players who reciprocate will develop as footballer’s and succeed as the club progresses, those who want to play the game out on twitter, text, facebook, FIFA and propping up the bar blaming everyone but themselves will undoubtedly struggle. Our first League game saw us come away with a hard fought 1-0 win at Radcliffe Olympic. Our performance in the opening half an hour was encouraging with their goalkeeper making a series of fine saves. Our hosts made a better fist of it second half without really threatening our goal and credit to the players who applied themselves throughout, eventually getting a deserved winner in the 84th minute. Overall, some pleasing periods of play but also plenty to improve on. With respect to today’s fixture let’s hope we can build on the efforts of the last few weeks and produce an entertaining performance with the desired outcome. Thank you for your support and enjoy the game. Miles Warriner First Team Management Team vs Borrowash Victoria | Saturday 15th August 2015 | www.ashbyivanhoefc.com

MATCH ACTION VS RADCLIFFE OLYMPIC RADCLIFFE OLYMPIC 0-1 ASHBY IVANHOE EAST MIDLANDS COUNTIES FOOTBALL LEAGUE SATURDAY 8TH AUGUST 2015
Chris Waldrum came off the bench to score the only goal of the game as Ashby opened up their 2015/2016 East Midlands Counties League campaign with a victory away at Radcliffe Olympic. It was an entertaining match with the Radcliffe keeper making three fine saves in the opening quarter as Ashby started strongly before the home side got back into it with a couple of chances of their own before the break. The second half saw chances at a premium before Waldrum was brought on inside the last ten minutes to break the deadlock. The match marked the first competitive game for Ashby’s new management team of Miles Warriner, Jose Ascensao and Andy Gray and it was a much changed team with only three players in the starting line up to the one that finished the last campaign. Ashby started the match the better side and they bossed the opening fifteen minutes and in that time they should have opened up a commanding early lead but the Radcliffe keeper made some superb saves. The first chance arrived on eight minutes when the ball was played over the top of the home defence which put Patrick Rowell through to run onto the ball only to see his shot well blocked and the ball then fell to Dan Stevenson and from the edge of the area he tried a low shot which the keeper managed to tip away. Four minutes later and another chance came Ashby’s way when a low ball into the six yard box from Stevenson found Royce Turville and from close range the keeper produced another fine stop to turn the ball around the post and then on the quarter hour mark and with Ashby clearly on top another chance went begging when a ball across the area found Turville and his shot forced the keeper into a another save. The next twenty minutes of the match saw Radcliffe get on top of the Ashby attacks and the majority of the play was now in the centre of the pitch with limited chances until on 38 minutes Radcliffe nearly capitalised on Ashby losing possession which left a player behind the defence but the shot was blazed over the bar and at half time it remained goalless. The start of the second half remained a tight affair but as the match wore on Ashby were looking the more likely to break the deadlock and they spent a lot of time inside the Radcliffe half but without reward up until the final ten minutes. By this point Ashby had already made two substitutions but the third and final change was made which brought Chris Waldrum into the action and on 84 minutes he scored the decisive goal when he received the ball on the edge of the area just left of centre and after taking a couple of touches to turn towards goal he unleashed an unstoppable shot past the full stretched keeper and into the net inside the near post to settle the match in Ashby’s favour. ASHBY IVANHOE LINE-UP: Jamie Brassington, Ali Abdillahi, Scott Reynolds, James Purslow, Sam Johnson, Thomas Rowell, Patrick Rowell, Luke Thorogood, Dan Stevenson, Royce Turville, Sam Slater SUBSTITUTES: Chris Saunders, Antonio Williams, Chris Waldrum GOALS: Chris Waldrum (84) ATTENDANCE: 38

RESERVE TEAM UPDATE Pre-season has seen mixed fortunes for our side with two wins and two losses against competitive opposition as we prepare for a step up in standard this season playing in the Leicestershire Senior Premier Division after the last campaigns promotion. It has been great to get the majority of last season's squad re-signed and see the addition of some younger players from last season's youth team and a few new faces. There is an excellent balance across the side of experience and youth which should hold us in good stead in what will be a demanding league with over 40 competitive games.

IN OPPOSITION TODAY BORROWASH VICTORIA Borrowash Victoria AFC was founded in the summer of 1911. Like many clubs of the time Borrowash did not start with a blaze of glory. Popular belief is that the only illumination for the inaugural meeting was the gas-lights of Elm Street. However this wasn’t to put the fledgling members off. They secured a pitch, Coffee Joe’s Field, and changing facilities. Though opposing teams must have wondered at the mile and a half walk between the two. From this modest start the club enjoyed a challenging future. Two World Wars halted play, but on each occasion the club reformed once peace returned. Off-field challenges saw the club disband and reform on three occasions. Despite all of this the will of the locals to have a football team represent their village remained unchecked. Maybe that is what makes the club motto so relevant ‘Palma non sine pulvere” – ‘No Victory without effort’. The present club commenced in 1963 when a group led by Tony Beardsley tired of the restrictions of the youth league. With the support of Albert Anderton and Neville Hardy the new team started playing in the depths of Section E of the Derby Welfare League. The new team was christened, Borrowash Victoria Amateur Football Club, or simply “The Vics” to the locals. Only three years later, and following early successes in both league and cup, the popularity of the club led to the creation of a reserve team. One major difference back then was that the teams didn’t have a manager and it was not until January 1968 that the first manager was appointed, one Mr Arnold Grace. He led the team to promotion in his opening season and developed the team’s standing tremendously until he left the club in 1968 due to ill health. Arnold did not however retire from The Vics entirely and returned as chairman in 1975. It is that type of devotion to the club that frequently marks the history of The Vics. Several names reappear as you look through the archives; players’ who hung up their boots only to stay on with the club in another capacity. No doubt it was that spirit that encouraged ex-international Alan Hinton to sign for the club in 1977, an event that saw the TV cameras at a Vics game for the first and only time. Incidentally, Alan was spotted by the cameras at the end of the game taking the nets down. I doubt any of us will see such a turn of events again. The modern era of sponsorship finally reached Borrowash in time for the 1977/78 season, Mr P Siddall a local building contractor. In exchange for bearing Siddall’s name on the shirts, Mr Siddall provided funds and a concrete floor in the equipment hut. The 1977/78 season also provided the club’s first major championship, the East Midlands Regional League Premier Division. However things looked dicey at the end of the 1980/81 season with a mass of resignations from the committee. As always The Vics pulled through and a face from today made his entrance to the stage. Ian Anderson turned from playing staff to president (and sponsor). The most challenging episode in the recent history of the club also happened under Ian’s reign. In 1983 the club were threatened with expulsion from the league due to settlement of a drain below the pitch making it unplayable. In those circumstances many a club has folded but The Vics rolled up their sleeves, repaired the pitch for the remainder of the season before moving to their new and current home, The Bowl. Trials and tribulations about the pitch however continued; none worse than when the landlord (the local leisure centre) allowed it to be used for horse riding during the County Show! This however did not prevent the highlight of the club’s history from occurring in the 1985/86 season. To mark the official opening of the changing rooms and floodlights, Brian Clough brought a full strength Nottingham Forest squad to The Bowl. The evening set new records including the highest ever attendance, an estimated two thousand supporters packing the banks.

IN OPPOSITION TODAY Unfortunately Borrowash Victoria cannot be graced by such crowds every week but a hardy one hundred supporters come along, whatever the weather. Clearly the club still holds a special place in the village community. On the field, The Vics joined the East Midlands Counties League as founder members for the 2008/09 season. This proved to be the first of many near-misses with promotion, with the side finishing second just three points adrift. 2010/11 was even closer, two points this time. 2011/12 second again but seven points adrift of a very good Heanor Town side. Last season saw several significant changes on and off the field. Ian Anderson stood down as Chair after over 30 years’ service; he does however remain on the committee. His successor is Frazer Watson and he has brought some new faces onto the committee and these changes have continued this season. At the end of the 2012/13 season Ian Collins, affectionately known as “Chunky” in footballing circles decided to part ways with the club and move on to pastures new. Long serving committee member John Bishop eventually moved with Chunky to Gresley FC. John Robinson, local resident and committee member took on the reins as secretary of the club under the football leadership of Kev Bunting. This move also reunited the Kellogg family with the club with Thom and brother Sam rejoining the club as player/assistant manager and player respectively. Two weeks into the season Kev sadly resigned due to personal issues, and like their farther Neil, the two brothers took charge of the first team. The 2013/14 season had ups and downs, with the club deducted three points for fielding an ineligible player, ultimately this had no effect on the promotion standings due to a loss of form at the tail end of the season. The high points of the season undoubtedly came in cup competitions, notably beating Belper Town and Chesterfield in the Derbyshire Senior Cup, only to succumb to a 6-0 defeat in the semi final to Glossop North End. Later in the season, due to Sam becoming a father once again he decided that he wished to take a back seat, and Thom enlisted the help of Dick Pratley for the end of the season, a move that was to become permanent for the 2014/15 season, along with the capture of Lee Barrow, with over 170 games experience in the Football league. Borrowash Victoria now has a successful junior setup with teams from Under 18’s down to Under 9’s. Last season those junior teams collected three major trophies and numerous other awards. It is from this young crop that the next generation of Vics will appear, following the example of former junior players who are now regular members of the senior squad.

ASHBY IVANHOE FC CLUB HISTORY Ashby Ivanhoe Football Club was founded in 1948 and play their home matches at the NFU Sports Ground, Lower Packington Road, Ashby de la Zouch in Leicestershire. This is the clubs new home from the beginning of the 2012/2013 season. Since being founded in 1948 up until the end of the 2011/2012 season the clubs previous home was at Hood Park also in Ashby de la Zouch. The club currently consists of four adult teams and a youth team. The first team play in the East Midlands Counties League, with the Reserves in the Leicestershire Senior League Premier Division. In the 2008/2009 season the club formed a Youth Team (Under 18’s) side who play in the Leicestershire Midweek Floodlit Youth League on Wednesday nights. A Sunday team was re-introduced for the 2012/2013 season and they play in the Burton Sunday League Division Three. For 2015/2016 a third Saturday side has been formed who will play in the North Leicestershire Football League Division One. The club also has 11 junior sides ranging from Under 9’s through to Under 17’s who play in the Burton Junior Football League, Tamworth Junior Football League and the Derby City League. The junior section came after the club merged with the David Hunt Soccer School at the beginning of the 2009-2010 season. In February 2004, Ashby Ivanhoe became an FA Charter Standard football club. The club is very ambitious and has plans to progress further up the league pyramid system. The club is run by an experienced management team and enjoys the support of some very prestigious commercial partners. Ashby Ivanhoe had one of their most successful seasons in 2010/11 as they completed a league and cup double by winning the Leicestershire Senior League by nine points and also lifted the Coalville Charity Cup for the very first time after producing a superb second half comeback to beat Bardon Hill 3-2 in the final. They have also reached successive Leicestershire Senior Cup finals in 2011/2012 and 2012/2013 but had to settle for runners-up on both occasions losing 3-1, firstly to Ibstock United and then Aylestone Park. The 2013/2014 season saw the first team achieve a long-term ambition as they won promotion into the Step 6 East Midlands Counties League for the 2014/2015 season after finishing third place in the Leicestershire Senior League. It was a close title race with the top three all finishing level on points with Ashby third on goal difference. The Reserves were also promoted to the Leicestershire Senior League Division One. 2014/2015 saw Ashby compete at Step 6 of the non-league pyramid for the first time and they had a very good season and secured a top six finish in the East Midlands Counties League which featured victories against all of the sides above them. The Reserve side were involved in a tight title race and it went down to a last day decider against Lutterworth Athletic Reserves but despite the result going against them on the day they were still promoted for the second season in succession and will play at Step 7 in the Leicestershire Senior League Premier Division for 2015/2016.
