Today’s game promises to be a close encounter I am sure and it will also see the floodlights in action for the first time, albeit for the 2nd half of the match. This achievement is testament to the hard work that many volunteers put in at the club and it is just reward for their efforts that we are now in a position to keep moving the club forward week by week. This coming Tuesday sees the first official game under floodlights in the League Cup replay against South Normanton Athletic and we would welcome your support at this game too along with your friends and family. I would like to welcome Sam Tingle from the NFU to today’s game. The NFU are our proud ground sponsors and their support was further extended this year to the shirt sponsorship of our new Under 16’s team. Welcome Sam and thank you for continued support of the club. Due to the games being cancelled last weekend we missed the opportunity to hold a minutes silence in memory of those fallen during War. Therefore before todays game I would like us all to observe a minutes silence in memory of those brave soldiers who fell. All that remains is to thank you all again for your continued support, the numbers we are getting at Home and Away games are a credit to you all and we really appreciate your continued support. FIRST TEAM UPDATE Good afternoon all, I’d also like to give a warm welcome to the officials and players of St Andrews FC. Today’s game will be an intriguing affair as its top position (St Andrews) against second place. St Andrews have carried on this season as they left off last season. Notably last season St Andrews had a strong run in the FA Vase reaching the latter stages of the competition. Since my previous programme notes, we have signed 5 new players, with a possibility of another player signing, as the October fixtures have taken its toll on my squad. At one stage we had 7 players who were either carrying knocks or injured and unavailable for selection. Even though I pride myself on creating and developing a team rather than relying on individuals we have missed the industry of Tozer, the drive of Sharpy and the craft of Saunders. We also had to deal with the suspension of Nez, of which his experience was greatly missed during the 2 away fixtures at Arnold and Anstey, where we only picked up 1 point out of the available 6 points. Therefore, the lesson learnt was I needed to further strengthen the squad, which I believe I have now done. I understand that I will not be able to keep a number of our players happy now my squad has increased in numbers, and there maybe a few more players grumbling about the lack of playing opportunities. However, in order to move the club forward it’s essential that I increase the numbers in the squad. As I alluded to earlier, we had a disappointing end to October, and then we were knocked out of the Leicestershire Senior Cup competition, which I believe we could have won. However, the positives I took out of the cup game was the performance of some of our young players. Thank you for taking your time to reads these notes and I hope you enjoy today’s game. MATCH ROUND-UP / CLUB NEWS Saturday 1st November – County Cup 2nd Round Ashby Ivanhoe 0-1 Sileby Town The first team saw their Leicestershire Senior Cup hopes ended as Senior League side Sileby Town scored late on. It was a youthful and much changed side which Ashby put out and both teams played well below their best with chances at a premium. Ashby did have a chance to take the lead just before half time but the shot went wide and with the match heading for extra time the visitors scored the only goal of the game on 83 minutes. Ashby Ivanhoe Reserves 4-2 Ryhall United 2009 There was better news for the Reserves though as they progressed through to the third round of the Saturday Intermediate Cup with a 4-2 victory over Ryhall United. Phil Gibson scored a first half hat-trick to put Ashby in control at the break before the visitors produced a second half comeback to make it 3-2 before Gibson put the match beyond double by adding his fourth of the match. County Cup Draws The draws for the next round of the Leicestershire County Cups has given both remaining Ashby sides home draws. In the third round of the Intermediate Cup the Reserves will face Birstall United Reserves with the match scheduled to take place on Saturday 6th December, 1pm kick off and in the Midweek Floodlit Youth Cup Quarter Finals the Youth team will face Oadby Town Youth and that match is scheduled for Wednesday 3rd December, 7pm kick off.

RESERVE TEAM UPDATE Since the last comments from Sav we have had a further 3 games with last week’s fixture being cancelled due to the weather, two league and one county cup in which we have had a bit of a mixed bag of performances. After coming off the emphatic 5-0 victory against Anstey Nomads Reserves we travelled to Asfordby Amateurs who were also in a strong league position at the time, this proved to be a tough game as expected. It really was a game of two halves as we were the stronger team in the first half with Asfordby applying the pressure in the second, a 1-1 draw was the final score, with missed chances from both teams, however we may have considered ourselves slightly fortunate to come away with the draw. We followed this with another league game at home against Hathern, and again the performance was a contrast of the previous week, we battled and were arguably the better team against an organised Hathern outfit, however a last minute Phil Gibson goal took the 3 points for us. The win was a fair result as we had numerous chances throughout the game which we squandered, build up play was excellent, only for indecision in the final third which nearly cost us all 3 points. The following week we had a county cup 2nd round game against Ryhall United 2009, who had to travel 90 minutes to get to us and got stuck in traffic, which in turn delayed kick off. This obviously affected preparations and warm up prior to the game, which was also being played at the hallowed turf that is Hood Park, plus the fact that only 11 players were available and fit, resorting to myself being the only substitute. Not the best game of football to watch, 3-0 up at half time against a poor Ryhall team, only to concede two early goals in the 2nd half which made for a very nervous last 30 minutes, thankfully being taken out of their reach with another goal late on to win the game 4-2. A win is a win and through to the next round. With last week’s cancelled game we currently sit 4th in the league, but with 2 games in hand on 1st and 2nd, so as long as we keep winning we are right up there and in contention, we need to keep the momentum going and gain consistency in our performances. The team spirit is fantastic and you really feel part of something special at the club as a whole, let’s hope these performances provide some trophies at the end of the year………there’s no reason they shouldn’t. UNDER 18S UPDATE Firstly may I extend a warm welcome to the players, officials & supporters of St Andrews FC. Well in the two weeks since my last notes we have progressed into the Quarter Finals of the County Cup after a magnificent 7-1 win over St Andrews and we are still unbeaten in the league lying in 2nd place with a game in hand. The St Andrews performance was one of our best to date with Angus Blair-Park getting a well deserved hat-trick after his MOM performance. I received high praise from the referee after the game who commented that this was the best team he had seen this season so all credit to the boys. Last week was a stark contrast as on a poor pitch and bitterly cold night we managed to come away from Birstall with a well earned point after going behind for the first time this season. It was good to see that we had some fight as although we are very good with the ball I was apprehensive to see how we would fare when it came down to a battle and the boys didn't let me down as they gave as good as they got! Nathan Price was outstanding in the middle of the park and a team goal was brilliantly finished by the in-form Jamie Fitzgerald to earn us a point. As the programme went to press we were in action in the 2nd Round of the Pukka Pies Cup against top of the Southern Division Aylestone Park so hopefully we can keep up this rich vein of form. All the best to Tony and the boys Alex Roome Under 18s Manager

SUNDAY TEAM UPDATE First of all I’d like to welcome all from St Andrews FC today and good luck to the Ivanhoe lads in what should be an entertaining top of the table clash this afternoon. It’s been an extremely cup orientated calendar for the Sunday team in the weeks since my previous update. Unfortunately our Sunday Shield campaign is now over following a 4-1 defeat to FC Britannia, the Leicester Sunday League Division One pace setters unfortunately had far too much for us on the day. Individual errors and a well worked move saw us three nil down at HT, an improved performance in the second half saw us grab a consolation via Will McNeice and limit our visitors to one goal in the second 45. Overall a disappointing morning for us though, following the performance against Winshill Parish the previous week this seemed somewhat a step backwards. There was slightly better news the following week however as we played another table topping side, Coopers Arms away at the Washlands in the 3rd round of the Junior cup. The whole team were given a lift as Ben Earp was finally fit to return and was immediately restored to the starting line-up. Ben’s start could have been better, as both he and Richard Commons managed to fire a combined £60 worth of match balls into the River Trent before the game had even kicked off. Fortunately Commons sights were a little more tuned during the game as his brace dug us out of a hole in the second half. The hosts managed to grab an early 2-0 lead despite early dominance from ourselves, a flick from a free kick and quick break away leaving us stunned after missing some great opportunities of our own. Will McNeice got us back into it and we equalised with 5 minutes left in the first half via an unlikely source, centre half Shaun Poynton finding the bottom corner with a side footed finish after a break down from a free kick. Coopers’ response was swift though and another excellent finish from their number 11 left him celebrating a first half hat trick as we went in 3-2 down. Clarity was restored on 55 minutes as Commons notched his first with a neat run and a clipped finish just inside the post, and it was Commons on hand again on 80 minutes to show the Coopers back four a clean set of heels and put us in front for the first time in the match after we had missed several great opportunities, Coopers themselves weren’t without their moments but fortunately for us their main hit man seemed to have left all of his finishing ability in the first half. Michael Simpson put the game beyond any doubt just before the game entered injury time when he played a one two with Commons and slotted the ball into the Division Four leaders’ bottom left hand corner. More cup action tomorrow as Woodville Rangers are back at Hood Park for the second time this season, on this occasion we’ll be battling it out for a place in the Division 2 cup semi finals. Key league games against Hilton Old Talbot and Ticknall Rangers follow that game, and the important fixtures keep coming as we enter December, as the 7th see’s us face Division 3 mid table side AFC Stapenhill in the quarter final of the Junior cup, a side not to be taken lightly but given we’re in the last 8 it could have been a lot tougher, having said that our opponent’s will probably be thinking the same thing so it should be a good contest. DOWN MEMORY LANE WITH MOG Good afternoon, and firstly let’s hope the weather is better today than last weekend, however Neil tells me the bar takings were healthy so all wasn’t completely lost. If you read the last programme you will know Stuart has asked me to select my all-time Ashby Ivanhoe 11. As you can imagine everyone has their own opinions on who I should be choosing and it is proving much more difficult than I thought. Anyway as promised here are my 4 defenders and I will start with Miles Warriner at centre half. Outstanding in the air and a great organiser & talker (on the pitch only obviously) Maz was Captain of the Sunday County Cup winning team of 1991. Not only a great defender he would often pop up with a goal from set pieces and was such a nuisance that he was likened to, of all things, an “armadillo” at Newhall Freehold Tavern. My 2nd centre half you would certainly not liken to any small lizard, well not unless you were very brave. Steve “Lefty” Wright was nothing short of a colossus. Utterly dominant in the air and as hard as nails, you certainly did your best if you were in Lefty’s team or he would let you know about it. He plied his trade from the mid 70’s onwards and terrified the centre forwards of Burton & District for many years, outstanding. My first full back is Dave Adey. Athletic, a good talker and tremendous commitment……………is what he shows on the dance floor in Manhattan’s every Saturday night. Dave was an Ivanhoe stalwart for many years winning numerous titles and cups on both Saturdays & Sundays. He could play anywhere but I have selected him as a galloping full back, an Ivanhoe legend. My other full back is Gez Eivors. When Gez joined the club it was obvious to all that he had played at a higher standard. His close control and classy passing immediately made him our stand out player. So worried were we that the local vultures (you all know which clubs I mean) would tap him up we made him player/manager. Gez took that role in his stride and won the North Leicestershire League title, and I can recall a great celebration that night when he was booked for a function (surely not!) at the Thai Rainbow so we took the trophy up to him and he lifted it out of the window to the crowd in the street, fantastic. A class act and I am delighted that he is still involved with the club today. So there we are, next issue I will offer up my midfield with more controversy bound to follow. I won’t be there today as I am at a Rock festival in God’s own Country of Wales so whilst I am banging my head to Michael Schenker (Google him!), Blue Oyster Cult, Y&T and Krokus let’s hope the boys are banging in the goals. Enjoy the game Dave Morris Club President

ASHBY IVANHOE FC SUPPORTERS CLUB A warm welcome to everyone here today for Ivanhoe’s East Midland Counties League top of the table match against St Andrews here at the NFU Sports Ground. Last Saturday with both 1st team and reserves games being cancelled due to the bad weather not a lot to report although the atmosphere in the clubhouse was brilliant and the pies went down well. So to today’s match against table toppers St Andrews who are 8 points clear of ourselves and are the league’s leading scorers with 49 goals, a tough match but I’m sure we will cope and my prediction is a 2-1 win. Although the senior games were cancelled my grandsons were not with the U11 winning 3-0. I got absolutely wet through but it didn’t cost me as Harry or Matt didn’t score. Good luck to all our teams this weekend and don’t forget if you have any comments regarding the club please e-mail me at mh.buckley@btinternet.com Mick Buckley Supporters Club Chairman

THE OPPOSITION ST ANDREWS The “Rifle Butt” public house in New Bridge Street Leicester was demolished along with a whole community to accommodate the extension of The Leicester Infirmary. This was to be the birth place of St Andrews Football Club. The licensee of the “Butts” as it had become known was the former wicket keeper Paddy Corral. The lads that drank in the pub at the time were all sports mad. There was a boxing ring; a gym upstairs and the pub darts team were M & B Champions many times. The football team played friendly matches for a number of years, but in 1973 when the public house along with the surrounding houses were demolished, it was decided to enter a league and call the club St Andrews FC. The club was accepted into the Leicestershire City League and during the following twelve year period they won forty four honours including The Premier Division Championship on four successive occasions and the Junior Cup twice. Following the completion of a clubhouse at Canal Street the club were elected to the Leicestershire Senior League in 1985. Since their election the club have added a further forty one honours including: • Leicestershire Senior League Champions – Three Times • League Cup Winners – Four Times • Rolleston Cup Winners - Three Times • Westerby Cup Winners – Once • Leicestershire Junior Cup Winners – Twice • Leicestershire Combination Champions – Once Due to the closure of the Canal Street Bridge, which created serious problems, the club suffered financially and almost folded. Just across the Aylestone Road at the highly successful Y.M.C.A Juniors FC. The committee were devastated when the national body of the organisation evicted them from the site. During the winter months of the 2001/02 season, the senior officers of St Andrews and their counterparts at Y.M.C.A. held a number of meetings and decided to amalgamate. Since the amalgamation and the reopening of the bridge, steady progress has been maintained. The ground at Canal Street has developed to a level six criteria. On the playing side the club run teams from seven years old to veterans. The success level is high throughout the club and we are a proud founder member of the East Midland Counties League.

ASHBY IVANHOE FC CLUB HISTORY Ashby Ivanhoe Football Club was founded in 1948 and play their home matches at the NFU Sports Ground, Lower Packington Road, Ashby de la Zouch in Leicestershire. This is the clubs new home from the beginning of the 2012/2013 season. Since being founded in 1948 up until the end of the 2011/2012 season the clubs previous home was at Hood Park also in Ashby de la Zouch. The club currently consists of three adult teams and a youth team. The first team play in the East Midlands Counties League, with the Reserves in the Leicestershire Senior League Division One. In the 2008/2009 season the club formed a Youth Team (Under 18’s) side who play in the Leicestershire Midweek Floodlit Youth League on Wednesday nights. A Sunday team was re-introduced for the 2012/2013 season and they play in the Burton Sunday League Division Two. The club also has 11 junior sides ranging from Under 9’s through to Under 17’s who play in the Burton Junior Football League, Tamworth Junior Football League and the Derby City League. The junior section came after the club merged with the David Hunt Soccer School at the beginning of the 20092010 season. In February 2004, Ashby Ivanhoe became an FA Charter Standard football club. The club is very ambitious and has plans to progress further up the league pyramid system. The club is run by an experienced management team and enjoys the support of some very prestigious commercial partners. Ashby Ivanhoe had one of their most successful seasons in 2010/11 as they completed a league and cup double by winning the Leicestershire Senior League by nine points and also lifted the Coalville Charity Cup for the very first time after producing a superb second half comeback to beat Bardon Hill 3-2 in the final. They have also reached successive Leicestershire Senior Cup finals in 2011/2012 and 2012/2013 but had to settle for runners-up on both occasions losing 3-1, firstly to Ibstock United and then Aylestone Park. The 2013/2014 season saw the first team achieve a long-term ambition as they won promotion into the Step 6 East Midlands Counties League for the 2014/2015 season after finishing third place in the Leicestershire Senior League. It was a close title race with the top three all finishing level on points with Ashby third on goal difference. The Reserves were also promoted to the Leicestershire Senior League Division One.
