CHAIRMANS WELCOME Good afternoon and welcome to the NFU Sports Ground for this afternoon’s cup tie against Desford FC. May I extend a warm welcome to the players, officials and supporters from Desford and hope you enjoy the game and our hospitality. Its official – we have now received planning permission for the erection of floodlights and training lights, here at our ground. This is a huge step forward in our quest to progress as a club. It is our aim to now apply for the necessary funding to support the installation of the floodlights which will be in the region of £60,000. The timescale we have set is for Summer 2014 and this will also mean that the Midweek Under 18’s team will play their matches here too plus give all the teams a winter training facility and keep the club vibrant throughout these months. A huge thank you to Neil Johnson who has been working alongside Abacus to push the planning consent over the line. The next part of our development will see hard standing to the perimeter of the pitch and a stand to house our increasing number of spectators, for which we are ever grateful for your support. We would like your views on where you would like to ideally see the stand positioned as we have 3 groups of spectators at present, 1 along the dugout side, 1 opposite along the middle of the sports field and 1 group behind the goal. If you would like to put your proposal forward please either see Mick Buckley, Chairman of the Supporters Club or myself and subject to planning we will see what we can do. Without fear of the Chairman’s curse, the reserves continue in great form and top the table and credit to Craig, Paul and the players for their achievement so far, but as we all know, when you are top you are the side to beat, so lets hope the players continue in the form they have been showing. Alongside the Reserves are the Under 18’s Midweek Youth Team, who also are top and again real credit to Alex, Luke and the players for the tenacity they are showing in games, it is a real joy to watch and with many of the players now featuring in the Senior squads, it remains my view that we have many good years ahead as a club if we can keep the lads we have got. The first team have continued in winning ways of late too and Tony continues to motivate the lads from the side as well as his commitment in training, he is a winner and I know the lads can see that and are responding well. May I take this opportunity to welcome Glynn and Jeff to the first team management team. Over the coming weeks you will be able to purchase your Christmas Raffle tickets, just £1 and lots of great prizes including a 1st Prize of £250 CASH! If you would like to sell some tickets on behalf of the club then let me know. All that remains is to wish the boys well today and hope you all enjoy the game. Stuart Bonser - Club Chairman

FIRST TEAM UPDATE Welcome to Ashby Ivanhoe FC. Since my last programme notes, the team has had some encouraging results. They showed great resilience and determination against promotion chasers Friar Lane & Epworth FC, after taking a deserved lead in the game, as at the time we were playing the better and more creative football. However, unfortunately for Ashby we gave the opposition a lifeline, which was due to a moment of rashness, we gave away an unnecessary penalty and we found ourselves on level terms at half time. The opposition started the second half as they finished the first, on top and applying pressure on our back 4, resulting in them leading the game 2-1. However, this didn’t deter the players, who continued to play the better football. The opposition were unable to cope with our quick play especially their midfield unit and from a set piece an inch perfect ball was delivered into the oppositions penalty box and our No9 (Gibson) dispatched it with aplomb. Unfortunately for the opposition Ashby weren’t finished, and we missed numerous chances before debutant Calvin Dickson scored the decisive goal to win the match for Ashby. The players took this renewed resilience and momentum into the following week’s game against Saffron, who won our first encounter 3-2, however, the players were very disappointed with their performance and wastefulness in front of goal, and in the following fixture a county cup match against Saffron away, the players made amends, beating them comfortably 6-0. Once again, the away league fixture at Saffron followed the same tone as the home fixture, chance after chance were missed by Ashby, which was very worrying as the opposition started to gain confidence from our wastefulness. However, just before half time we took a deserved lead from forward play we practice in training. This settled the players and we went on to score 3 second half goals, however, another moment of madness saw the opposition dispatch a penalty kick and a lifeline back into the game. On a positive note another debutant Harry Bourne scored our fourth goal and showed great promise and good attitude. Continued on page 5

First Team Update Continued The away league fixture against Rothley Imps was a difficult game for our players as the home team had a new management team in place and they had also signed several new players. SUNDAY TEAM UPDATE It’s been a busy few weeks since my last update with four fixtures for the Sunday team across League and Cups. The first of which ended in predictable fashion with an 8-1 defeat away at Drum Athletic in the League Cup, a side sat top of the Burton Premier League that boasted around 700 appearances for Gresley Rovers between them. Despite the gulf in class we could quite conceivable had a two or three goal cushion at half time as we missed numerous 1 on 1’s. The Drum defence were unable to deal with our pacey counter attack throughout the first half, and they were fortunate to be 2-1 up at half time. Sadly following an injury to centre half Pete Bright 60 minutes in the gaps began to show as our opponents showed us why they are where they are with a 6 goal volley in 30 minutes. Ben Earp took the MOTM award. Back to the league the week after and a much needed away win against early challengers Yoxall Rangers has given a base to build on. The home side took a 2-0 lead in tough conditions but we fought back to level the scores through Ben Earp and Marcus Jinks before half time. Marcus Fletcher added the winner with 20 minutes remaining, Marcus Jinks claimed MOTM in the vital win. More cup football the following week. With a quarter final already secured in the Division 3 Cup, we looked to add a second last 8 appearance to our season calendar as we faced off against Division 2 leaders Wetmore Warriors Reserves at Hood Park in the Junior Cup third round. As expected it was a difficult game and after applying early pressure the Warriors took the lead and went in 1-0 up at half time. The second half however saw a better performance from us, another excellent defensive display and some clinical finishing from our forwards. Substitute Chris Gordon made a difference and his run and cross lead to the Wetmore keeper punching to Ben Earp 18 yards out who slotted past the decked stopper to equalize. Richard Commons then unleashed with outside of his left boot from outside the box to give us the lead in sublime fashion, and the two would combine for Earp’s second as Common’s run and square ball left our top goalscorer with an easy finish to put us into Quarter finals. Matt Jones MOTM at centre half. The fixtures didn’t get any easier last Sunday as Division 3 leaders Shobnall Dynamo arrived at Hood Park looking to build on their undefeated start. Once again our side was up to task as goals from Ben Earp, Marcus Fletcher and Warren Nicol, saw us go in at half time 3-1 up, the visitors only getting on to the score sheet via a terrible penalty decision when full back Dave Lord timed a perfect tackle in our area. A collapse at the start of the second half saw uncharacteristic defensive errors from us that ultimately cost us two goals and our lead and could well of seen us go behind, but thankfully the ref evened things out with another awful penalty decision this time in our favour, the decision was so bad I’m not exactly sure what it was given for. Ben Earp put us back in front from the spot and Simon Thompson made sure of the points to cap off an excellent few weeks for us and move us up to 7th place with games in hand over most teams. More league action in the coming weeks, mid table Real Roebuck visit Hood Park tomorrow as we look to claw our way up the table, a visit to third place Red Lion Repton awaits the week after. The draw for our Junior Cup Quarter Final has been made, another home time for us, this time against Winshill Parish last season’s Division 3 runners up on Dec 8th. UNDER 18s MIDWEEK UPDATE Firstly I’d like to welcome Desford FC to the NFU today for what promises to be a fantastic game. Well it’s been a few weeks since my last update but I’m pleased to say that the boys are still sitting pretty at the top of the tree AND have beaten the only other unbeaten side in the Northern Division! Our 2nd Round County Cup tie against Barrow Town was always going to be a tasty affair after both sides drew earlier this season plus the fact that both sides were unbeaten. But after the first half ended in stalemate the boys put their foot on the gas and ended 3-0 victors. There were some memorable performances notably from Liam Hynard, Jacob Ewing and George Shattock who were imperious in defence (Liam taking the MOM Champagne) and Jake Warriner’s discipline between the sticks to see out the clean sheet. We have been drawn at home on December 4th against Aylestone Park Boys FC in the Quarter Finals so it would be good to see a few familiar faces down ‘The Fortress’ to support the boys. This week saw us going up against Gresley who we have never beaten during my tenure so I’m hoping that this is a statistic that has now changed before we welcome Ibstock United this coming Wednesday (20th November). Anyway…I better sign off before Doug Kendrick needs an overdose of coffee to keep him awake and I would like to wish Tony and all the boys the best for today’s game and I’m sure we’ll be treated to a cracker. ASHBY IVANHOE FC SUPPORTERS CLUB Good afternoon everyone and a warm welcome to this afternoons visitors to the NFU Sports Ground, Desford. Well we seem to be doing things right on the pitch at the moment with 5 wins on the trot the highlight being the 3-2 victory over Friar Lane & Epworth. Now to today’s league cup match against Desford who handed us a 4-1 home defeat in August so today should be a good pointer to see how much we have improved since then. I spoke to Tony at training on Tuesday night and he is confident that we will not lose. Good luck lads my forecast for this one is 3-1 win. Any comments/views on the new ground/facilities e-mail mh.buckley@btinternet.com See you Saturday Regards Mick Buckley

JUNIOR SECTION ROUND-UP PAGE 19: JUNIOR SECTION ROUND-UP ASHBY IVANHOE UNDER 14s WINSHILL GREEN U14s 1 ASHBY IVANHOE U14s 9 BURTON JUNIOR FOOTBALL LEAGUE SUNDAY 10TH NOVEMBER 2013 Ashby scored nine for the second match in a row as they saw off Winshill in some style. Ryan Evans and Shamuel Islam led the way with hat-tricks, Ben Jones added another two and a first of the season spectacular strike from Alfie Miles completed the scoring. Ashby fielded a changed side from the start with the usual substitutes beginning the game. It looked like it may backfire at first as Winshill created a couple of good chances early on, one of which bought a superb diving save from Ollie Burrows. However the visitors soon settled down and went in front on ten minutes when a neat one-two between Jones and Evans saw the latter stride clear of the defence to give the keeper no chance.

Jones then struck twice in three minutes when first he controlled an Evans cross, turned his defender and fired low into the corner of the net, before following up his own blocked shot from Max Griffiths’ cross to drive the ball home. In between the goals Ethan Humphries was unlucky to see his fine strike come back off the post. Ashby continued to dominate and put the game to bed with two more goals in the final five minutes of the half. James Shakespeares’ corner was knocked back by Humphries to Evans who reacted quickest to force the ball home, before Shamuel Islam stroked home Shakespeares’ fine right wing cross on the stroke of half time. The home side began the second half brightly and pulled one back when Angus Osborne was robbed on the edge of the area and the Winshill forward beat Burrows with a low shot. However Ashby soon got back on the goal trail when a free kick was cleared as far as Miles who lifted a perfect long-range effort over the keepers’ head for his first of the season. Evans then got his hat trick goal from close range before the hardworking Jones crossed for Islam to slide home the eighth of the match. Islam then scored his third to add to his four last week when Humphries excellent cross was spilled by the keeper giving Islam the simple task of rolling it over the line.
