CHAIRMANS WELCOME Good afternoon and welcome to today’s game against our visitors Borrowash Victoria and may I extend a warm welcome to the players, officials and spectators of Borrowash Victoria and hope that we all enjoy a good match. The team progressed onto the quarter finals of the League Cup after beating Holwell Sports and last Saturday’s game against Blaby was a well fought contest with a really entertaining game of football and the team performed well which is always pleasing to see. Before today’s game we will be observing a minutes silence in respect of the 71 people who lost their lives in the Columbian air disaster which was carrying the players from Brazilian football club Chapecoense. Please observe the minutes silence as this will be rolled out at all games worldwide over the course of this weekends fixtures. May I take this opportunity to welcome Marc Sargeant to the club, Marc joins us to work alongside Russ White with the reserves and I am sure that we will now get back to an established position with the reserves and have players that want to play for the club and push for first team places. The philosophy of the club remains the same and we want each step at the club to be challenging for the next step and to build a club that players want to play for and represent. Over the last few weeks we have seen a few players leave the club for a variety of reasons but the one reason that never ceases to amaze me is the naïve football snobbery that certain players seem to have when they see the word reserves at the end of a club name. We have had a few players leave to play for another club as they said they did not want to play reserve team football, yet the team they have joined plays in the same league that our reserves are in, which is the highest league that represents Leicestershire. As a club we took the decision to move into in to the Senior League Premier Division as it kept the link between the first team and reserves as close as possible with just 1 step difference. This decision also meant that the reserves now costs more money to run as we have 3 officials and again not having to ask a substitute to run the line which is never attractive for any player. However this decision means that players are competing each week in a good standard of football and if given the opportunity, are able to make the step up into the first team. We will continue to attract the right players to join this club with this approach and remove the ones that simply don’t get it and whilst I am disappointed with some of the players attitudes and reasons to leave the club I remain firm and convinced that we are going in the right direction and if, as a player you want to be part of it then stick on board if not get off at the next available stop. The first team are at home again this Tuesday against Radford and all that remains is to thank you all for your fantastic support so far this Season and hope you all have a fantastic Christmas with your families and friends and if I don’t see you before I wish you all a Happy New Year too. Festive wishes Stuart Bonser Club Chairman vs Borrowash Victoria | Saturday 17th December 2016 | www.ashbyivanhoefc.com

FIRST TEAM UPDATE Managers Talk Good afternoon and welcome to NFU sports ground for this afternoon’s league game against Borrowash Vics FC. We would like to welcome all those connected with Borrowash and hope you have a safe journey home. Well we are now five games in to our new tender as managers at Ashby and have had a decent start winning two and drawing the other three games. The lads are really taking on board on what we want to get across in terms of how we want to play which is very encouraging - “keep it going lads!!” Whilst we have started ok the most pleasing thing is we are still unbeaten which are the foundations that we will build on. It’s very important for us to continue picking up points even in the games where we are not scoring. Today’s game is going to be a hard one, as Borrowash are a good side so this afternoon will be a tough game. This game will be another good test as to how we are doing and one we can really measure ourselves against in terms of where we are as a group. We are now coming up to the hectic Christmas part of the season as we have 4 games in quick succession, using all the squad to keep thing fresh will be key. To our supporters, your support has been great and we would like to say thank you- this really helps the lads. Enjoy the game. Steve Titterton & Lee Attenborough First Team Management

EAST MIDLANDS COUNTIES FOOTBALL LEAGUE SATURDAY 10TH DECEMBER 2016 _______________________________________________________________________________________ ASHBY IVANHOE LINE-UP: Thomas Allan, Jake Conkay, George Wesley, Sam Johnson, Tom Rowell Ryan Pearce, Luke Thorogood, Daniel Edwards, Luke Edwards, William Rooke, Nick Sewell SUBSTITUTES USED: Dan Stevenson GOALS SCORED: Daniel Edwards (53) ATTENDANCE: 62 _______________________________________________________________________________________ Ashby Ivanhoe were held to a third successive league draw as visitors Blaby & Whetstone Athletic netted an equaliser with three minutes remaining. Ashby had taken the lead early in the second half through midfielder Daniel Edwards before Blaby’s leading scorer Aaron Preston headed home late on following a free kick. Ashby came into the match on the back of a five match unbeaten run including a midweek league cup win over Holwell Sports following a 93rd minute winner from Evan Cawley whereas the visitors had suffered heavy 8-1 and 7-2 defeats in their previous two matches. Matches between these two sides though are normally tough encounters and this was no exception and following an uneventful first 45 minutes it was Ashby who opened the scoring eight minutes into the second half when a cross into the area from the left found Daniel Edwards and he produced a fine finish and minutes later it could have been two for Ashby but after Luke Thorogood had been put through on goal his shot was diverted over the bar by the keeper. Midway through the second half Blaby had a great chance to level but from a good position the strike at goal was off target and wide of the near post without troubling the Ashby keeper. As the match progressed Blaby were putting more pressure on the Ivanhoe defence and with five minutes remaining a shot from range crashed against the underside of the crossbar before bouncing clear but with their next chance just two minutes later they were level. It came when Ashby gave away a free kick 25 yards from goal and the ball was played into the area and the header back across goal from Aaron Preston found the bottom corner. Neither team could find a decisive third goal of the match meaning the points were shared with the result leaving Ashby 13th in the table ahead of a trip to Greenwood Meadows and home matches against Borrowash Victoria and Radford before Christmas.

ASHBY IVANHOE 2-1 HOLWELL SPORTS JENKINS & JENKINS LEAGUE CUP 2ND ROUND TUESDAY 6TH DECEMBER 2016 Ashby Ivanhoe moved into the quarter finals of the league cup following a 2-1 victory over Holwell Sports. As the match edged towards extra time Evan Cawley scored a spectacular stoppage time winner to put Ashby through where they will face a home tie against either Radcliffe Olympic or Borrowash Victoria.

IN OPPOSITION TODAY BORROWASH VICTORIA Borrowash Victoria AFC was founded in the summer of 1911. Like many clubs of the time Borrowash did not start with a blaze of glory. Popular belief is that the only illumination for the inaugural meeting was the gas-lights of Elm Street. However this wasn’t to put the fledgling members off. They secured a pitch, Coffee Joe’s Field, and changing facilities. Though opposing teams must have wondered at the mile and a half walk between the two. From this modest start the club enjoyed a challenging future. Two World Wars halted play, but on each occasion the club reformed once peace returned. Off-field challenges saw the club disband and reform on three occasions. Despite all of this the will of the locals to have a football team represent their village remained unchecked. Maybe that is what makes the club motto so relevant ‘Palma non sine pulvere” – ‘No Victory without effort’. The present club commenced in 1963 when a group led by Tony Beardsley tired of the restrictions of the youth league. With the support of Albert Anderton and Neville Hardy the new team started playing in the depths of Section E of the Derby Welfare League. The new team was christened, Borrowash Victoria Amateur Football Club, or simply “The Vics” to the locals. Only three years later, and following early successes in both league and cup, the popularity of the club led to the creation of a reserve team. One major difference back then was that the teams didn’t have a manager and it was not until January 1968 that the first manager was appointed, one Mr Arnold Grace. He led the team to promotion in his opening season and developed the team’s standing tremendously until he left the club in 1968 due to ill health. Arnold did not however retire from The Vics entirely and returned as chairman in 1975. It is that type of devotion to the club that frequently marks the history of The Vics. Several names reappear as you look through the archives; players’ who hung up their boots only to stay on with the club in another capacity. No doubt it was that spirit that encouraged ex-international Alan Hinton to sign for the club in 1977, an event that saw the TV cameras at a Vics game for the first and only time. Incidentally, Alan was spotted by the cameras at the end of the game taking the nets down. I doubt any of us will see such a turn of events again. The modern era of sponsorship finally reached Borrowash in time for the 1977/78 season, Mr P Siddall a local building contractor. In exchange for bearing Siddall’s name on the shirts, Mr Siddall provided funds and a concrete floor in the equipment hut. The 1977/78 season also provided the club’s first major championship, the East Midlands Regional League Premier Division. However things looked dicey at the end of the 1980/81 season with a mass of resignations from the committee. As always The Vics pulled through and a face from today made his entrance to the stage. Ian Anderson turned from playing staff to president (and sponsor). The most challenging episode in the recent history of the club also happened under Ian’s reign. In 1983 the club were threatened with expulsion from the league due to settlement of a drain below the pitch making it unplayable. In those circumstances many a club has folded but The Vics rolled up their sleeves, repaired the pitch for the remainder of the season before moving to their new and current home, The Bowl.

25

IN OPPOSITION TODAY Trials and tribulations about the pitch however continued; none worse than when the landlord (the local leisure centre) allowed it to be used for horse riding during the County Show! This however did not prevent the highlight of the club’s history from occurring in the 1985/86 season. To mark the official opening of the changing rooms and floodlights, Brian Clough brought a full strength Nottingham Forest squad to The Bowl. The evening set new records including the highest ever attendance, an estimated two thousand supporters packing the banks. Unfortunately Borrowash Victoria cannot be graced by such crowds every week but a hardy one hundred supporters come along, whatever the weather. Clearly the club still holds a special place in the village community. On the field, The Vics joined the East Midlands Counties League as founder members for the 2008/09 season. This proved to be the first of many near-misses with promotion, with the side finishing second just three points adrift. 2010/11 was even closer, two points this time. 2011/12 second again but seven points adrift of a very good Heanor Town side. Last season saw several significant changes on and off the field. Ian Anderson stood down as Chair after over 30 years’ service; he does however remain on the committee. His successor is Frazer Watson and he has brought some new faces onto the committee and these changes have continued this season. At the end of the 2012/13 season Ian Collins, affectionately known as “Chunky” in footballing circles decided to part ways with the club and move on to pastures new. Long serving committee member John Bishop eventually moved with Chunky to Gresley FC. John Robinson, local resident and committee member took on the reins as secretary of the club under the football leadership of Kev Bunting. This move also reunited the Kellogg family with the club with Thom and brother Sam rejoining the club as player/assistant manager and player respectively. Two weeks into the season Kev sadly resigned due to personal issues, and like their farther Neil, the two brothers took charge of the first team. The 2013/14 season had ups and downs, with the club deducted three points for fielding an ineligible player, ultimately this had no effect on the promotion standings due to a loss of form at the tail end of the season. The high points of the season undoubtedly came in cup competitions, notably beating Belper Town and Chesterfield in the Derbyshire Senior Cup, only to succumb to a 6-0 defeat in the semi final to Glossop North End. Later in the season, due to Sam becoming a father once again he decided that he wished to take a back seat, and Thom enlisted the help of Dick Pratley for the end of the season, a move that was to become permanent for the 2014/15 season, along with the capture of Lee Barrow, with over 170 games experience in the Football league. Borrowash Victoria now has a successful junior setup with teams from Under 18’s down to Under 9’s. Last season those junior teams collected three major trophies and numerous other awards. It is from this young crop that the next generation of Vics will appear, following the example of former junior players who are now regular members of the senior squad.

ASHBY IVANHOE FC CLUB HISTORY Ashby Ivanhoe Football Club was founded in 1948 and play their home matches at the NFU Sports Ground, Lower Packington Road, Ashby de la Zouch in Leicestershire. This is the clubs new home from the beginning of the 2012/2013 season. Since being founded in 1948 up until the end of the 2011/2012 season the clubs previous home was at Hood Park also in Ashby de la Zouch. The club currently consists of four adult teams and a youth team. The first team play in the East Midlands Counties League, with the Reserves in the Leicestershire Senior League Premier Division. In the 2008/2009 season the club formed a Youth Team (Under 18’s) side who play in the Leicestershire Midweek Floodlit Youth League on Wednesday nights. A Sunday team was re-introduced for the 2012/2013 season and they play in the Burton Sunday League Division Three. For 2015/2016 a third Saturday side has been formed who will play in the North Leicestershire Football League Division One. The club also has 11 junior sides ranging from Under 9’s through to Under 17’s who play in the Burton Junior Football League, Tamworth Junior Football League and the Derby City League. The junior section came after the club merged with the David Hunt Soccer School at the beginning of the 2009-2010 season. In February 2004, Ashby Ivanhoe became an FA Charter Standard football club. The club is very ambitious and has plans to progress further up the league pyramid system. The club is run by an experienced management team and enjoys the support of some very prestigious commercial partners. Ashby Ivanhoe had one of their most successful seasons in 2010/11 as they completed a league and cup double by winning the Leicestershire Senior League by nine points and also lifted the Coalville Charity Cup for the very first time after producing a superb second half comeback to beat Bardon Hill 3-2 in the final. They have also reached successive Leicestershire Senior Cup finals in 2011/2012 and 2012/2013 but had to settle for runners-up on both occasions losing 3-1, firstly to Ibstock United and then Aylestone Park. The 2013/2014 season saw the first team achieve a long-term ambition as they won promotion into the Step 6 East Midlands Counties League for the 2014/2015 season after finishing third place in the Leicestershire Senior League. It was a close title race with the top three all finishing level on points with Ashby third on goal difference. The Reserves were also promoted to the Leicestershire Senior League Division One. 2014/2015 saw Ashby compete at Step 6 of the non-league pyramid for the first time and they had a very good season and secured a top six finish in the East Midlands Counties League which featured victories against all of the sides above them. The Reserve side were involved in a tight title race and it went down to a last day decider against Lutterworth Athletic Reserves but despite the result going against them on the day they were still promoted for the second season in succession and will play at Step 7 in the Leicestershire Senior League Premier Division for 2015/2016.
