Off the field….. As you will have noticed the bases are in for the floodlight columns and all of the cabling complete. As I write these notes we are still awaiting a final installation date but we are hopeful that all will be complete for the beginning of November. We still have a few minor improvements to make around the ground and work is scheduled to complete this in the coming weeks/months. The next project we are undertaking is the erection of the seated stand. This will be positioned to the left hand side of the Home dugout and will house a minimum of 50 seats. In the last programme I announced the opportunity for you to be part of the clubs history and to “sponsor your seat”. If you would like to reserve your seat then do let me know. Over the coming weeks there will be a design of the stand placed on the information board and you can then choose which seat you would like to reserve or visit the website for more details. On the field….. There are many great things happening on the field at the club, from a record number of junior players signing for the club this year to many of our youth players now gaining 1st team experience. This was evident at the last 2 cup games against Caterpillar and South Normanton, where Kerr Horn and Josh Pepper has notched up more game time and Oscar Blair Park made his debut in last weeks cup tie at South Normanton and did not look one bit out of place. This is testament to Tony’s belief about introducing young players at the right time and assisting in their development as a player. If we continue to produce youth players like we are then the future is very bright for the club. The last few games have shown the true strength in depth we have and the commitment that players are giving. For those that made the trip last Wednesday to South Normanton, you witnessed a great fight back against a very strong side. The game against Bardon last Saturday, was for me, the best team performance of the season so far, not one player stood out more than any other as they all performed as a team and showed the opposition a lesson in commitment and desire for the club that they play for and came away deserved winners. The reserves went back to the top of the Senior League Division 1 and the challenge is now on for them to maintain this form and continue to produce great results along the way. The players are responding for Craig and Paul and this is great to see. Many of the players now in the reserves also represent the Midweek Under 18’s and the work that Alex Roome puts in to the team is admirable and he remains one of the clubs greatest assets. All that remains is to thank you all again for your continued support, the numbers we are getting at Home and Away games are a credit to you all and we really appreciate your continued support. FIRST TEAM UPDATE I would like to give a warm welcome to the officials and players of Aylestone Park FC. At present, I understand that they are going through a transitional period having removed two 1st team managers since pre-season. I believe they have a talented young group of players who are now delivering their true potential, as recent results have shown. Reflecting on our previous games, I felt that during the home fixture against South Normanton FC, our team shape was excellent and during the early period of the game we should have scored a minimum of 3 goals and converted a penalty. However, we unfortunately, only converted one of our chances and later on in the first half we paid for our missed chances as we went in at half time 1 apiece. The second half saw the visitors dominating the play and possession, fortunately for Ashby the visitors also failed to convert their second penalty of the game. Having said that, we could have won the game because in the final minutes, a drilled cross from our left couldn’t be converted, instead it went inches over the cross bar, therefore, overall I consider a draw a fair result. The Leicestershire Senior Cup midweek fixture, away at Caterpillar, we rotated the squad, which gave me the opportunity to look at the entire squad at a good competitive level, and I thought a number of our players played exceptionally well. We won comprehensively 3-0 on the night, which was very pleasing. The away fixture, at Greenwood Meadows FC, should have been a more comprehensive result rather than the 1-0 result. I felt, throughout the game, we squandered many clear cut opportunities in front of goal, equally, our final passes around the 18-yard box were notably off on the day. However, gaining the 3 points from the game was our objective and we achieved that. In the League Cup midweek fixture, away at South Normanton, we made several changes in order to rotate the squad and to have a look at a number of our talented youth team players. During the first half, South Normanton should have had a greater score line than the 2-0 at half time. However, the second half saw our young players, notably Oscar Blair-Park and Josh Pepper, grow into the game and we managed to get on level terms. After extra time and 3 ‘sendings off’ (2 for South Normanton and 1 for Ashby), it was a 3 -3 result, with a replay to be played. The Bardon away fixture was a very tight affair up to half time, however, 10mins from half time saw the home team reduced to 10 men: a rash 2 footed challenge saw their right full back shown, rightly, a red card by the referee. However, in the second half, the home team showed, in the early periods, some local derby passion and went into an early lead with 10 men. Unfortunately for the home team, it woke Ashby up and we responded very early through a Luke Thorogood equalizer and we went on to win comfortably. The most pleasing aspect is that we have taken 4 points off Bardon. In summary, the players have done well on the road picking up 3 wins and a draw and equally the young players at the club are progressing well. The only issue with playing Saturday and midweek fixtures regularly are that injuries and suspension can affect a squad greatly. Therefore, over the coming weeks we will be missing 5 of our most influential players. I hope you enjoy today’s game Anthony Hemmings First Team Manager

MATCH REPORT VS HOLWELL SPORTS HOLWELL SPORTS 0 ASHBY IVANHOE 7
Stevenson 8, Sharp 11, 20, 30, 88, Carline 23, 64 East Midlands Counties Football League Tuesday 14th October 2014
Ashby Ivanhoe put in another great performance to follow-up their victory at Bardon with a resounding 7-0 victory away at Holwell Sports which moved them upto fifth place in the East Midlands Counties League. Leading scorer Daniel Sharp was simply unstoppable and led the way with four goals with his hat-trick completed inside the opening half hour. Sam Carline added two after Dan Stevenson had opened the scoring. Ashby started the match well and with their first chance at goal they took the lead. It came on eight minutes when left back Russell Wagg sent a cross into the area from out wide on the left side and the high ball found Dan Stevenson in the centre of the area and he sent a header beyond the keeper and into the bottom corner. The advantage was quickly doubled just three minutes later with the goal of the match with Daniel Sharp scoring his first of the night. It was a great effort to even create the chance after he received the ball outside the area to the left but after beating a defender he moved into the area close to the by-line before cutting inside and passing another defender before unleashing an unstoppable shot past the keeper and into the far corner. Ashby were creating wave and wave of attacks and on 20 minutes it became 3-0 when an attack down the right side resulted in a cross into the area from Josh Lowe which found Sharp in the centre of the area and he struck a first time effort into the net despite the Holwell defence appealing for offside. A minute after the third goal it should have been increased to four but a shot across goal beat the keeper but went narrowly the wrong side of the post but Ashby weren’t to be denied a fourth goal on 23 minutes when a corner from Luke Thorogood was played to the near post and Sam Carline planted a powerful header into the top corner. On the half hour mark Ashby increased the lead to 5-0 when Sharp completed his hat-trick when firstly a long range effort came off a Holwell defender and with the ball running loose between the keeper and his defensive line it was Sharp who reacted quickest to nip in and take the ball around the keeper before slotting into the empty net. Nine minutes before the break and Ashby went close to adding number six when another corner was played into the area and found Daniel Turnock who saw his header well saved by the keeper and the final chance of the half saw the home side with a chance at reducing the arrears but a well struck shot was well saved by keeper Kia-Luca Monachello who tipped the ball onto the inside of the post with the ball then running across the goal line and behind and the teams went in at the break with Ashby holding a comfortable 5-0 lead. The lead might not have been that comfortable if things had gone differently at the start of the second half as, just like at Bardon on Saturday, Holwell had a good spell of pressure for the first fifteen minutes of the half and had a number of chances to pull goals back with the first seeing a free kick from outside the area come back off the crossbar before the Ashby keeper saved a powerful shot a minute later.

MATCH REPORT VS HOLWELL SPORTS Just before the hour mark Holwell had two more good chances to score when a corner resulted in an effort being cleared off the line before a another long range effort was well save by the keeper who pushed the ball to safety. After Ashby had weathered the storm they went close to scoring number six but the keeper saved well from close range before the sixth goal finally came on 64 minutes when a free kick just to the left of the area was whipped in by substitute James Fisher and after the keeper had saved the goal bound effort it was left for Carline to head home his second goal of the match. It was Ashby’s turn to hit the post as they looked for a seventh goal with Luke Thorogood seeing the Holwell keeper turn his free kick onto the post before Sharp was given a chance to score again when at the back post he got onto the end of a cross into the area from wide on the right but the header cleared the bar without troubling the keeper. With two minutes remaining though it was left to man of the match Sharp to complete the scoring with his fourth goal of the game which, after getting onto the end of a through ball from Fisher, he powered his way past the defender before slotting into the bottom corner to complete a brilliant 7-0 victory.

ASHBY IVANHOE 4
Thorogood 56, 65, Sharp 60, OG 85 East Midlands Counties Football League Saturday 11th October 2014
Ashby Ivanhoe put in one of their best performances of the season as they destroyed local rivals Bardon Hill on their own patch dominating the match from start to finish. After a goalless first half where Ashby had the better chances the home side edged in front just after the break before Ashby took control and two goals from Luke Thorogood and one from Daniel Sharp in a nine minute spell turned the game on its head before an own goal five minutes from time completed the scoring. The match started with Ashby having a couple of early chances within the opening ten minutes when the ball came to Sharp inside the area but he blazed his shot over the bar at the near post and soon after a corner played into the area was headed goalwards at the near post by Luke Tozer but failed to trouble the keeper and also cleared the bar. Ashby continued to create the chances and on 20 minutes Sharp had another effort at goal when he did well to beat a defender before sending his shot towards the far top corner but the ball went high and wide of goal and then five minutes later a corner to Ashby went straight across the face of goal with nobody able to get a touch and at the back post the ball arrived too quickly for Chris Saunders and he couldn’t direct his header goalwards. Bardon were then reduced to ten men with a nasty challenge bringing down an Ivanhoe player with the referee having no hesitation in producing the red card and after a substitution and a reorganisation of the Ashby formation Luke Thorogood, now playing in a more forward role, had the next chance at goal with his shot just going the wrong side of the post before the final chance of the half saw Dan Stevenson go close with his shot being gathered at the second attempt by the keeper. Half time had come at the wrong time for Ashby as they were easily on the front foot and looking likely to break the deadlock but just four minutes into the second half and it was Bardon who opened the scoring. It came just a minute after Thorogood had seen his low shot saved and the home side attacked and a cross into the area from the left was headed home into the bottom corner. The reaction to going a goal behind though was superb by Ashby and they dominated the remainder of the match and quickly turned it around. The scores were level on 56 minutes when Thorogood was again in the action and saw his initial shot saved with the keeper pushing the ball away to his left and Stevenson was quickest to react to send the loose ball back across goal where Thorogood made no mistake with his second shot. On the hour mark Ashby moved in front with another fine goal from leading scorer Sharp when he received the ball before beating a couple of defenders and from the edge of the area he sent a low powerful shot past the keeper for his seventh goal of the season and then five minutes later the lead was increased to 3-1 when Thorogood added his second of the match with a shot finding the bottom corner at the near post. Although Ashby continued to put pressure on a poor Bardon defence it took until five minutes from time for the final goal to be scored when a cross into the area from Stevenson saw Sam Carline go for the ball but a Bardon defender attempted to cut out the cross but only managed to send the ball past his own keeper and finding the net off the underside of crossbar to complete a superb victory for Ashby and move them upto their highest ever league position of sixth. 10

RESERVE TEAM UPDATE So since my last words, we have had a 3 week gap of fixtures, almost a mid season break, and after the fantastic start that we have had to the season it was a minor concern to me that we would lose a bit of our strong momentum we had built up in the league over the first 6 fixtures. Two weeks ago we returned to action in the County Cup away at Caterpillar Reserves, and as I predicted, we were very rusty. On what used to be one of the premium playing surfaces in Leicestershire, it is now a shadow of its former self which is a shame as it is now one of the worst. The surface certainly didn’t help our passing style of play, and after going 2-1 up in extra time we conceded a late goal to take the tie to penalties. Thankfully we came through a nerve racking shootout winning 5-4. However, despite our rusty first half performance, what did please me was that after half time and right through extra time there was only really going to be one winner – we dominated possession which was good to see. What I was also pleased about is the fact that we had a cup game to ‘blow away the cobwebs’ if you like, as the week after (last weekend), we had a resounding victory at home over Anstey Nomads Reserves in the league, winning 5-0 whilst playing some superb stuff, especially in the first half. To be honest, it could have easily been double figures if we had taken our chances better. Still cannot grumble with a 5-0 victory. So again, as we stand, now over a quarter of the way through the season, we currently sit top of the pile in the Senior League Division 1 and I couldn’t ask for more. However, the winter months may possibly bring different challenges when our style of play will possibly be hampered by the elements. Who knows, one thing is for certain we have the ability, and also the character however to battle on and get the results required to stay right up there and I am looking forward to it. The club more now than ever as a whole has massive depth in terms of numbers and quality and this most definitely makes a big difference. Both teams (and indeed the youth team) are currently in rich form. Let’s hope this continues over the coming weeks. Craig Savidge Reserve Team Manager

UNDER 18S UPDATE Firstly may I extend a warm welcome to the supporters, officials and players of Aylestone Park FC for today’s fixture. I’m pleased to report that the youth team are STILL unbeaten after recently completing their finest win to date against league leaders Quorn. Most of you will now know that last Wednesday’s game against Coalville will have been the Youth Teams last game down at ‘The Fortress’ Hood Park. It will be quite emotional for me as we have always played our games down there so it will feel strange leaving there for the NFU, although I won’t miss putting the posts up on a freezing cold evening. There have been some thrilling matches down there over the years where we have beaten Coalville, Gresley, and Ibstock all in their pomp and who could forget last year’s County Cup Quarter Final against the unbeaten Aylestone Park 94 which saw a 100 plus crowd roaring the boys on. So it’s with that thought that we say goodbye to Ashby’s original coliseum and here’s to making new and hopefully great memories down at the NFU. After last week’s great result with a 4-1 away win at Bardon followed by the 7-0 victory at Holwell it would be nice if the boys can keep the momentum going and may I wish Tony and the boys all the best today in what promises to be an enthralling fixture. DOWN MEMORY LANE WITH MOG Good afternoon and it’s great to be back at the ever progressing surroundings of The NFU this afternoon. Last week we followed up a solid performance at Greenwood Meadows with a superb display at Bardon Hill. At 1-1 Steve Hart blazed over from 2 yards, you will not be surprised that some of the away hoards chuckled a little but one in particular, Chris Jager, found time to remind me (again) that even the ahem, best can miss from that distance. In September 1992 I accompanied Mr Jager to watch Aston Villa against Liverpool when with the score at 1-1 a certain Ronny Rosenthal waltzed through the Villa defence around the keeper leaving him a simple tap in right in front of The Holt End (with me in it!) and as many of you will remember poor Ronny somehow managed to hit the bar much to the amusement of 90% of the crowd, Mr Jager and later that night everyone watching Match of the Day. Even worse was that Villa won 4-2 with new signing, from The Mighty Reds that week, Dean Saunders getting 2 goals, as you can imagine a grim evening followed but that was nothing to the events of the next morning. Burton & District Sunday League Division 1, The Plough away, one to set the pulse racing as you can imagine. At the time we had a very strong side and flew out of the traps taking the game to The Ploughmen. After 10 minutes Andy Cruickshank danced down the right beating a couple of hung-over defenders, sidestepped around the keeper taking him to the by-line & then unselfishly laid the ball back to his, usually deadly, strike partner, yours truly, for a simple tap in and a “David Coleman” 1-0! Sadly not and over the bar it went from 2 yards and then in a team featuring Messrs, Horn, Warriner, Wheatley (x2), Jager, Ward and with Tissington on the touchline sniggering away, up went the chant of “Oh Ronny, Ronny, Ronny, Ronny, Ronny, Ronny Rosenthal” of course the Ploughmen dutifully joined in to the extent that eventually the referee had to tell them all to shut up. Anyway, back to Bardon, and what fantastic support we are taking to away games at the moment, we must have had well over half the crowd last week and at Greenwood Meadows we had all of the crowd bar 3. I am writing this ahead of our trip to Holwell so let’s hope for continued success there. The buzz around the club at the moment is fantastic, well done to all of the players from all teams, good luck to Tony & the boys today and enjoy the game. Dave Morris Club President

ASHBY IVANHOE FC SUPPORTERS CLUB A warm welcome to everyone here today for Ivanhoe’s match against Aylestone Park here at the NFU Sports Ground. Last Saturday we gained a valuable 3 points with an emphatic victory away at local rivals Bardon Hill saw us rise to 6th in the league. Great performance and well done lads. Cold beers and sunshine gone its back to normal and to today’s game against Aylestone Park who although below us in the league should prove tough opposition and my prediction for this one is a 3-1 victory for the lads. (Sorry about the last prediction but that’s what I thought the result would be - glad I was wrong) Our reserve team had another brilliant win with a 5-0 home victory against Anstey Nomads to stay top of the league. Last weekend I also saw my grandsons teams play. The U11 won 5-2 with Matt scored 1 costing me another quid. Good luck to all our teams this weekend and don’t forget if have any comments regarding the club please e-mail me at mh.buckley@btinternet.com Mick Buckley Supporters Club Chairman

THE OPPOSITION AYLESTONE PARK Aylestone Park Senior Section was formed way back in 1980 and at that point it was a natural progression from youth team football where we were very successful at local level. Our early years saw us develop from Sunday morning adult football in the Charnwood League to our first taste of Saturday football courtesy of the Leicester & District League where we were very successful, gaining many league honours and various County FA Cup successes. Without doubt this was a very vibrant time for the club and on the back of our previous achievements we were eventually accepted into the Leicestershire Senior League, a major step up in not only playing standards but also level of facility. Floodlights, spectator stand and post and rail pitch were standard requirements back then in the late 80’s and without doubt Leicestershire football was at a very good level, with the likes of Shepshed Charterhouse, Quorn, Coalville Town, Barwell, Friar Lane Old Boys to name but a few, all making for some very attractive fixtures. Although ‘The Park’ thoroughly enjoyed their many years of Senior League membership, it became clear that the established clubs were looking to make progress and pursue pastures new. This ‘progression’ wasn’t lost on us and following our recent re-location to our new facilities in 2010 we finally enjoyed our best season to date in 2011-2012, gaining promotion to the East Midlands Counties League which provides football at Step 6 on the National Football Pyramid System. On a broader scale, Aylestone Park FC provides football in the local community for not only adult football but also a wide range of age group sections including mini-soccer, junior, youth and ladies football plus an inclusive section for youngsters with learning difficulties. It is this vision of how we see the whole footballing picture and what is required in our community that has enabled us to be assisted by various grant aid in addition to our own dedicated fundraising efforts that have gave us an outstanding, first-class facility.

ASHBY IVANHOE FC CLUB HISTORY Ashby Ivanhoe Football Club was founded in 1948 and play their home matches at the NFU Sports Ground, Lower Packington Road, Ashby de la Zouch in Leicestershire. This is the clubs new home from the beginning of the 2012/2013 season. Since being founded in 1948 up until the end of the 2011/2012 season the clubs previous home was at Hood Park also in Ashby de la Zouch. The club currently consists of three adult teams and a youth team. The first team play in the East Midlands Counties League, with the Reserves in the Leicestershire Senior League Division One. In the 2008/2009 season the club formed a Youth Team (Under 18’s) side who play in the Leicestershire Midweek Floodlit Youth League on Wednesday nights. A Sunday team was re-introduced for the 2012/2013 season and they play in the Burton Sunday League Division Two. The club also has 11 junior sides ranging from Under 9’s through to Under 17’s who play in the Burton Junior Football League, Tamworth Junior Football League and the Derby City League. The junior section came after the club merged with the David Hunt Soccer School at the beginning of the 20092010 season. In February 2004, Ashby Ivanhoe became an FA Charter Standard football club. The club is very ambitious and has plans to progress further up the league pyramid system. The club is run by an experienced management team and enjoys the support of some very prestigious commercial partners. Ashby Ivanhoe had one of their most successful seasons in 2010/11 as they completed a league and cup double by winning the Leicestershire Senior League by nine points and also lifted the Coalville Charity Cup for the very first time after producing a superb second half comeback to beat Bardon Hill 3-2 in the final. They have also reached successive Leicestershire Senior Cup finals in 2011/2012 and 2012/2013 but had to settle for runners-up on both occasions losing 3-1, firstly to Ibstock United and then Aylestone Park. The 2013/2014 season saw the first team achieve a long-term ambition as they won promotion into the Step 6 East Midlands Counties League for the 2014/2015 season after finishing third place in the Leicestershire Senior League. It was a close title race with the top three all finishing level on points with Ashby third on goal difference. The Reserves were also promoted to the Leicestershire Senior League Division One.
