The players won’t need any reminding that today’s game is one of the biggest of the season and I know they will be as best prepared by the management team as they can be and lets hope that they can take us over the line at 4.50pm today with a win. The management team of Miles, Andy and Jose have worked their socks off and been very committed to the cause this season and I hope the players re-pay them today along with Marie who keeps fixing them when their broke. Today we welcome some of our sponsors to the game, the staff from Borleys, Mark from Short Cuts, Andrew Keller from Keller Homes, Peter from John German and we thank you for your continued support of the club and hope you add some extra voices to motivate the team today. Additionally we welcome Mark Jones from the BJFL, who is visiting the ground for the fist time since we moved here and he is joined by his wife Julie and Son Dane. Our Under 11’s will be walking out with the players today and this signifies how joined up we are as a club and that these young players are integral to how we are growing and developing the club. As a club we don’t have to go and pay players to play for our club, we simply develop players from within that WANT to play for the club and not come just because they get paid. There are many examples of clubs locally that pay their players to play or should I say simply turn up. This has proven to be un-sustainable in many cases and there’s only one loser from that, THE CLUB itself and its supporters. Ultimately all you attract is mercenary players that jump from club to club for and extra few quid and have no loyalty to anyone but themselves. I have said many time before that we have the 3 key ingredients to make a good club here at Ashby Ivanhoe, one is the Commercial support we receive from numerous local businesses which allows us to continue reinvesting back into improving our facilities, two is the player catchment as we draw players from an enviable local pool and three is the support we receive through the gate at each home game and this continues to grow which is great to see. There is an additional ingredient too which is the numerous volunteers that help drive the football club forward and NOT ONE of them receives any financial gain as a result of the many hours they commit to the club each week, they may get the odd cup of tea free but that’s a small price to pay for their ongoing commitment to the club. I would like to thank all of our supporters for your continued support of the team both home and away. It gives me great pleasure to see so many of you watching the team and I know that the players are very appreciative too as there’s nothing better than having great support encouraging you from the sidelines. All that remains is to wish our players well today and hope we all are in for a good game. Stuart Bonser Club Chairman PS – If you are visiting the ground by car please DO NOT OBSTRUCT the junction to Cambrian Way by parking on the grass/path verge as this is both dangerous and you could get a fixed penalty notice from the Council and or Police.

FIRST TEAM UPDATE Good afternoon and welcome to the home of Ashby Ivanhoe FC. May I extend a very warm welcome on behalf of the Club to everyone attending today’s match and in particular the players, officials and supporters of our opponents St Andrews. Our last home game, a comprehensive 7-1 victory over perennial strugglers Greenwood Meadows, five weeks ago seems a distant memory. The five games we have played in that period has seen us pick up 3 wins, a hard fought draw at Radford and a defeat against today’s opponents St Andrews. In terms of the wins, Greenwood Meadows were a poor outfit, at Graham Street Prims we struggled with the conditions, found an opposition keeper in inspired form but credit to the players they never threw the towel in and quite literally nicked it at the death. The 3-1 win at Blaby was one of our best performances of the season where we played with an intensity that will be required today. The defeat at St Andrews highlights the fine margins in football and sport in general. Having executed our game plan pretty well in the first half and going in at the interval one nil up we had a gilt edged chance to extend our lead midway through the second half, failed to do so and credit to St Andrews they broke quickly, exploiting the fact we had committed too many players forward and punished us. Their winner came, once again, after we should have taken our chance to restore the lead. On balance I don’t believe we deserved to win the game, they shaded it but those key moments when our decision-making let us down were extremely costly. Last week’s game at high flying Radford was always going to be a tight game as they are very strong at home. We never looked convincing struggling to get any rhythm going forward and they caused us a few problems at the back. Credit to Hodgey for making a terrific penalty save to keep us level at the interval. They came at us in the second half and deserved to take the lead, although the goal from a corner was a set play we have generally coped well with all season. We had to revert to plan B&C and once again credit to the players for sticking at it, equalising in the 88th minute and finishing much the stronger side. The league table was always going to tighten up and credit to the clubs around us for putting fine runs together and I am sure there will be plenty of twists and turns in the coming weeks. Our opponents today provided us with our toughest challenge to date three weeks ago, one we couldn’t quite overcome. As we impress on the players every week the performance and result of the game lies within our changing room, in football to be challenged is inevitable but to be defeated is optional. It’s time to push on, learn lessons from the past few games providing the foundation to provide an entertaining display with the desired outcome. We are a work in progress and progress we will. Thank you for your support and enjoy the game. Miles Warriner First Team Management Team

MATCH ACTION VS GREENWOOD MEADOWS ASHBY IVANHOE 7-1 GREENWOOD MEADOWS EAST MIDLANDS COUNTIES FOOTBALL LEAGUE SATURDAY 13TH FEBRUARY 2016 Ashby Ivanhoe comfortably saw off bottom of the table Greenwood Meadows 7-1 to maintain their eight point lead at the top of the East Midlands Counties League. Luke Thorogood led the way with a hat-trick, Danny Quinn scored two, both inside the opening ten minutes with Tom Rowell and Kerr Horn completing the scoring. As expected Ashby started the match the better side and it took just seven minutes to open the scoring when Thorogood sent a low cross into the area from the right with the ball finding Quinn and from 10 yards out he was left with plenty of time to turn and shoot beyond the keeper. The advantage was quickly doubled just three minutes later and it was Quinn who found the net for the second time when the ball was passed through the Greenwood defence and despite his shot striking the keeper there was enough power on it for it to cross the line just as a defender managed to clear with the referee’s assistant confirming the goal. On 18 minutes Ashby had a chance to increase their lead to three when James Purslow got into the area on the left side but his powerful shot was well saved by the Greenwood keeper. Ashby did add a third goal with their next chance on 25 minutes when a low cross into the area from the left found Thorogood and after controlling the ball well he sent a low shot across goal and into the bottom corner and despite putting pressure on the Greenwood defence for the remainder of the half it remained 3-0 at the break. Inside the first five minutes of the second half Ashby lost concentration which allowed the visitors to pull a goal back when a mistake left the striker which just keeper Chris Hodge to beat and after rounding him he was left with an empty net to finish. There was to be no shock comeback though and on the hour mark Ashby restore their three goal lead when the ball was played to Purslow and from close to the line to the right of goal he sent a low cross into the middle which found Thorogood who made no mistake for his second goal and make it 4-1. The chances continued to fall Ashby’s way and Quinn had a chance to complete his hat-trick when a ball from Chris Waldrum found him and with the keeper rushing off his line the shot across goal was just wide of the far post and the next chance saw Waldrum go close himself with a long range effort which was well saved by the keeper. Ashby did have numerous other chances with Quinn seeing a couple of shots narrowly off target. Ashby did find the net for a fifth time on 75 minutes when a corner was headed goalwards by Quinn and after the keeper had made a save the loose ball was put away by defender Tom Rowell. With nine minutes remaining Thorogood completed his treble when from a corner a shot by Rowell was blocked before a follow up shot from Purslow was saved and with the ball running loose into the centre of the area Thorogood was left with a simple finish to make it 6-1. The scoring was completed on 84 minutes when just a couple of minutes after coming on substitute Kerr Horn got onto the end of a through ball before slotting the ball beyond the keeper.

IN OPPOSITION TODAY ST ANDREWS Rifle Butt and origins The Rifle Butt public house on New Bridge Street, Leicester was demolished along with a whole community to accommodate the extension of the Leicester Royal Infirmary. The licensee of the “Butts” as it had become known was the former Leicestershire Wicketkeeper, Paddy Corrall. The lads whom drank in the club at the time were all sports mad. There was a boxing ring, a gym upstairs and a pub darts team who were “M&B” Champions many times. The football team played friendly matches from 1965. In 1973, when the public house along with the surrounding houses was demolished, it was decided to enter a league and name the club after the newly built estate in its place, St Andrews. Years in City League The club was accepted into the Leicester City League and during the following twelve year period won forty-four honours including the Premier Division Championship on four successive occasions and the Junior Cup twice between the first team, the reserve team and the “A” team. Leicestershire Senior League Over twelve months starting in 1983, the clubhouse at Canal Street was built entirely by the club’s highly talented committee. The club was elected to the Leicestershire Senior League in 1985. Since their election the club added a further forty-one honours between first, reserves and youth team including: Three-time champions and four-time runners-up of the Leicestershire Senior League, four-time League Cup winners, three-time Rolleston Cup winners, 1997 Westerby Cup winners, two-time Leicestershire Junior Cup winners and three-time Leicestershire Combination champions. The club in this period reached the Fifth Round of the FA Vase in 1994-1995. Recent history in the East Midlands Counties League In 2008, the club was founder members of the East Midlands Counties League formed of senior league clubs from Leicestershire, Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire. In the inaugural season with a talented side the club finished a creditable 9th in a highly-competitive league. Following the loss of a majority of the players, a rebuilding process ensued over the following two season. This culminated in a 4th place finish in 2011-12 under manager Clem Dublin. The following season seen a change in management and makeup towards a very young squad, who eventually finished 16th. Andy “Pepsi” Purple was appointed first team manage for the 2013-2014 season. Pepsi’s managerial record was exceptional with massive success with Blaby & Whetstone’s first team along with cup and league trophies with the St Andrews reserve side. Along with a crop of quality youth players from are all-conquering Under 18 side brilliantly managed by Andy Ward and Sean Hickey, Pepsi signed a number of high-class, experienced players. This blend of talented youth and experience along with Pepsi’s managerial skills proved to be a good formula with early promise indicated by a brilliant away-win against eventual champions Thurnby Nirvana and the Saints topping the table for much of the first half of the season. The season saw a remarkable 8 game winning run in the FA Vase leading to a Semi Final tie against West Auckland of the Northern League. After a pulsating goalless draw in the North East, the Second Leg was played out at Canal Street in front of a record crowd of just over 1,600. A terrific strike on the hour by 17 year-old Brady Hickey put the Drews ahead. Sadly two West Auckland goals in the last ten minutes denied the club a Vase Final and a dream trip to Wembley.

IN OPPOSITION TODAY The exertions of the incredible Vase run had taken a toll on the league. However for only the second time in our history, a very tired St Andrews side won the Leicestershire Senior Cup to end an incredible season. The 2014-2015 season was another unforgettable season, playing scintillating football all season, the team looked like worthy champions only to be a pipped in controversial circumstances to the title by Bardon Hill on goal difference.. With Pepsi and his backroom team of Tony Maisto as assistant, coaches Jamie Sharpe, Jason Genders and Tom Orton, and physio Grace Westbury, the first team squad look to be in capable hands. With ground development now ongoing and extra committee members joining the club, the future of the club looks promising. LAST 5 MATCHES DATE

ASHBY IVANHOE FC CLUB HISTORY Ashby Ivanhoe Football Club was founded in 1948 and play their home matches at the NFU Sports Ground, Lower Packington Road, Ashby de la Zouch in Leicestershire. This is the clubs new home from the beginning of the 2012/2013 season. Since being founded in 1948 up until the end of the 2011/2012 season the clubs previous home was at Hood Park also in Ashby de la Zouch. The club currently consists of four adult teams and a youth team. The first team play in the East Midlands Counties League, with the Reserves in the Leicestershire Senior League Premier Division. In the 2008/2009 season the club formed a Youth Team (Under 18’s) side who play in the Leicestershire Midweek Floodlit Youth League on Wednesday nights. A Sunday team was re-introduced for the 2012/2013 season and they play in the Burton Sunday League Division Three. For 2015/2016 a third Saturday side has been formed who will play in the North Leicestershire Football League Division One. The club also has 11 junior sides ranging from Under 9’s through to Under 17’s who play in the Burton Junior Football League, Tamworth Junior Football League and the Derby City League. The junior section came after the club merged with the David Hunt Soccer School at the beginning of the 2009-2010 season. In February 2004, Ashby Ivanhoe became an FA Charter Standard football club. The club is very ambitious and has plans to progress further up the league pyramid system. The club is run by an experienced management team and enjoys the support of some very prestigious commercial partners. Ashby Ivanhoe had one of their most successful seasons in 2010/11 as they completed a league and cup double by winning the Leicestershire Senior League by nine points and also lifted the Coalville Charity Cup for the very first time after producing a superb second half comeback to beat Bardon Hill 3-2 in the final. They have also reached successive Leicestershire Senior Cup finals in 2011/2012 and 2012/2013 but had to settle for runners-up on both occasions losing 3-1, firstly to Ibstock United and then Aylestone Park. The 2013/2014 season saw the first team achieve a long-term ambition as they won promotion into the Step 6 East Midlands Counties League for the 2014/2015 season after finishing third place in the Leicestershire Senior League. It was a close title race with the top three all finishing level on points with Ashby third on goal difference. The Reserves were also promoted to the Leicestershire Senior League Division One. 2014/2015 saw Ashby compete at Step 6 of the non-league pyramid for the first time and they had a very good season and secured a top six finish in the East Midlands Counties League which featured victories against all of the sides above them. The Reserve side were involved in a tight title race and it went down to a last day decider against Lutterworth Athletic Reserves but despite the result going against them on the day they were still promoted for the second season in succession and will play at Step 7 in the Leicestershire Senior League Premier Division for 2015/2016.
