Off the field….. THEY’RE UP!!!! As you will see the floodlights are now up and operational. Unfortunately we won’t be using them today with an early kick off. The first official game that you should be able to see them in use will be in 2 weeks when we host St Andrews. May I express my thanks to the contractors who have worked to achieve our tight deadline and I am sure you will all agree that week by week we are beginning to look like a football club even more. In the last programme I announced the opportunity for you to be part of the clubs history and to “sponsor your seat”. If you would like to reserve your seat then do let me know. Over the coming weeks there will be a design of the stand placed on the info board and you can then choose which seat you would like to reserve or visit the website for more details. On the field….. The evidence of our Senior teams work continues with the 1st Team sitting in 3rd, the Reserves 2nd and the Under 18’s 2nd in their respective leagues. This is testament to the Managers and players we have at the club and the challenge remains for them to keep approaching each game, one at a time and not let the standards they have set themselves drop. At this stage of a season it is not about where we are as such but about where we want to be and ensuring that we all remain focussed on that goal. The Junior teams continue to progress too and it was pleasing to note that our U16’s scored their first goal 2 weeks ago and this will have given the players a huge boost. Please do keep your eyes on the website and you will see the latest information regarding all the teams at the Club. In 2 weeks time I will be starting my Chairmans Half Time Challenges and this will be a “penalty shoot out”. If you would like to take part in this challenge then reserve your name in the Media centre as numbers will be limited. The rules are then quite simple, you take a penalty against me and if you score you receive a “BEER TOKEN” or “FREE ENTRY” pass to the next Home Game. The cost of the Challenge varies and this first one will be £2 per penalty with a maximum of 12 penalties to be taken. May I take this opportunity to express my sincere thanks to Matthew Lester who puts so much hard work into making this matchday programme one of the best around and I am sure you will agree with me that it looks fantastic week on week. Additionally, Matthew works tirelessly sending out match reports and putting all of the information onto the website and that too is a fantastic achievement – well done Matthew and thank you for your continued commitment. All that remains is to thank you all again for your continued support, the numbers we are getting at Home and Away games are a credit to you all and we really appreciate your continued support. Stuart Bonser Club Chairman

FIRST TEAM UPDATE Good afternoon all, our focus today is on the Leicestershire Senior Cup. Therefore, I would like to give a very warm welcome to the players and officials of Sileby Town FC. My past experiences of Sileby are that they are normally a difficult team to play against because they are normally a very well drilled, organised and determined team. Hence, today we will have to be at our very best to achieve the victory that we so desperately require. Reflecting on the previous month, which should not be under estimated with the level of commitment shown by a number of our players, during the month we have won many points, which has catapulted Ashby up the league table. Unfortunately, grumbling from certain quarters of the squad and committee members has over shadowed the great football and results I have led the team to achieve. It seem as though the moaning and grumbling are from weak-minded people / players that conveniently forget that I also praise when it’s due. What I’ve noticed is the moment you challenge players for basic schoolboy errors they only focus on that rather than the reasons for the criticism and the effects their actions have on other players and the overall result for the team. I’ve chosen to work for this club on a voluntary basis like everyone else to the best of my unqualified experience and I want to work with people who want to win football matches and who understand that it’s the manager’s responsibility to keep a high level of performance and challenge the players to develop. This will happen on the training ground, with Martin and Yogi (following my instructions), in the changing rooms before and after matches and during competitive games. Therefore, my attitude and desire to achieve the above will not diminish. Some players will not be able to raise their levels of PERFORMANCE, COMMITMENT or ATTITUDE. Therefore my question is what do you do with these players? My concerns are what effects does this have on other players (young impressionable players at the club), the dynamics of the squad, the changing room atmosphere, which is essential and important, and in certain cases the peer pressure it has on other players’ games. I want to work with players and people who have a positive attitude and a willingness to develop and keep the high standards set. Update on Squad News!! Luke Tozer is 10 to 14 days away from returning to full fitness. Neil Walton’s 2 match suspension finished on Tuesday so he’s available today. Dean Withers has joined the club from Lichfield City FC, he is currently a member of England’s 6 aside team. Glyn Andrews has also returned to the club as ‘CLUB SCOUT’. My management team and I feel that we need the additional support to identify young talent that will drive the club forward! Enjoy today’s game Anthony Hemmings First Team Manager

MATCH REPORT VS GRAHAM STREET PRIMS GRAHAM STREET PRIMS 0 ASHBY IVANHOE 1
Gibson 6(p) East Midlands Counties Football League Tuesday 21st October 2014
Ashby Ivanhoe moved upto second place in the East Midlands Counties League with a narrow 1-0 victory at Graham Street Prims. Phil Gibson scored the only goal of the match from the penalty spot inside the first ten minutes before the home side pushed forward in the second half with Ashby just managing to hang on. The first twenty minutes of the match belonged to Ashby and kicking with a strong wind in their favour it was important to take advantage and they did take the lead with just six minutes on the clock when Daniel Sharp was brought down inside the area and with the referee awarding a penalty it was left to Phil Gibson to send the keeper the wrong way to score. On 19 minutes Ashby had a great chance to double their advantage when a ball forward found Chris Saunders and after bringing the ball under control he sent a shot towards goal which was just wide of the near post. Midway through the first half and it was the home side who threatened for the first time when the player beat a defender before striking a low shot towards the far post and Ashby keeper John Noon produced a good save to turn the ball away from goal before Ashby had another chance a couple of minutes later when they were awarded a free kick just outside the area and Macauley Holmes sent a powerful low drive through the wall and the keeper also produced a fine save down low to his right and with no further chances it was the visitors who led at the break.

MATCH REPORT VS GRAHAM STREET PRIMS The second half though was all Graham Street Prims and they certainly didn’t perform like a side that were second from bottom in the league as they caused Ashby numerous problems during the half. They had two good chances in quick succession after just five minutes of the restart when firstly a shot across goal was wide of the far post and then a cross into the area resulted in a header which crashed back off the Ivanhoe crossbar. On the hour mark another opportunity of an equaliser saw a shot from the edge of the area go just wide of goal. Ashby had their best and only real chance of the second half on 65 minutes when they should have doubled their advantage only for their own player to block the shot on its route to goal. The chance came after Sharp went for a ball into the area which the keeper blocked and with the ball running loose Gibson struck the ball towards goal only for it to strike Sharp just yards from the goal-line with the home side managing to clear. The final fifteen minutes saw Graham Street Prims throw everything at Ashby but a combination of poor finishing and a great save from Noon kept them out. They should have equalised on 75 minutes when a low cross into the area wasn’t held by Noon but when the shot came it was wide and then in the first minute of stoppage time a shot was destined for the bottom corner until Noon came to Ashby’s rescue by producing the save of the match to tip the ball wide and secure Ashby a fifth straight league.

RESERVE TEAM UPDATE ASHBY IVANHOE 2 Gibson 60, 89
HATHERN 1
Leicestershire Senior League Division One Saturday 25th October 2014
Phil Gibson struck an 89th minute winner as Ashby Ivanhoe Reserves came from behind to beat Hathern 2-1 and remain in second place in the Leicestershire Senior League Division One. It was the visitors who took an early lead in just the seventh minute when they capitalised on an error by the Ashby keeper when a ball into the area saw the keeper come to claim but he couldn’t hold onto the ball which fell to the feet of the attacker and he was left with the easiest of finishes to make it 1-0. Ashby responded well though and they had three very good chances within the next ten minutes to level the scores. Firstly on nine minutes Scott Cordy, from a central position, tried a long range shot which produced a fine diving save from the keeper down to his right to turn the ball behind and then just three minutes later the Hathern keeper was forced into another fine save to deny Ben Pollard after he was set up by Gibson. On 16 minutes it was Luke Hardwick who had Ashby’s next effort on goal but the shot was just wide of the post and before the break Ashby also had the ball cleared off the line as they looked for the equaliser which they couldn’t find in the remainder of the first half leaving the visitors in front at the break. Ten minutes into the second half and Hathern had a chance to double their advantage but the shot was well saved by Ashby keeper Kia-Luca Monachello down to his left and then on the hour mark Ashby levelled the scores when a great cross from the left from Chris Waldrum found Gibson who finished well. With twenty minutes remaining the visitors had a chance to retake the lead when a player ran into the area before sending his shot wide of goal and it was left to Ashby to take all three points with a minute of the match remaining when a corner from the right was played into the area and found Gibson who struck the ball into the net to complete the turnaround and give Ashby the three points which leaves them two points off leaders Barrow Town Reserves.

UNDER 18S UPDATE Firstly I'd like to welcome the players, supporters and staff of Sileby Town FC to the NFU Sports Ground for today’s Leicestershire Senior Cup 2nd Round match. I was at the ground the other day and I have to say that the NFU is finally looking complete now the lights have been erected. This is just another positive step forward for the club and my thanks must go out to Stuart & Neil for the tremendous job that those guys do. As for the youth team, we are still unbeaten after beating local rivals Coalville Town 3-0 at an emotional final game at "The Fortress" Hood Park. As I mentioned in my last notes there have been many great memories for me as a player, and a manager but we're all excited about creating some new and hopefully happy memories down at the NFU. We will have played St Andrews in the 2nd Round of the County Cup last Wednesday so hopefully my next notes will be describing our victory. Wishing the best of luck to Tony and the boys. SUNDAY TEAM UPDATE The grind continues in Division 2 for the Sunday side but at last improvements are beginning to show. A hard fought victory against TS Sports in the 2nd round of the Junior Cup AET booked our place in the last 16 of that competition, although we were disappointed to surrender a 3-1 lead going into the final 10 minutes great character was shown in the extra 30. Our strikers also seem to be finally hitting form which is encouraging, Warren Nicol has returned to the fold in recent weeks and his brace combined with a long overdue Richard Commons hat trick booked our place in round three, with goalkeeper Adam Davis doing his bit in ET to keep TS out of the game. We take to the road in the next round, playing Division Four leaders The Coopers Arms FC for a place in the quarters. It was more the performance the following week that encouraged our management team however, as we visited undefeated and free scoring Winshill Parish, who had brushed aside most sides they have played this season including ourselves and an 8-1 victory against a team in a higher league in the League Cup. The effort and commitment was excellent from every single one of our squad of 12 as we took a 1-0 lead into half time following a top class goal from young prospect Patrick Conway, as he dazzled Winshill’s defence with a series of stepovers before clipping a delicate shot into their top corner from 18 yards. Will McNeice doubled our lead after half time with a smashed shot into the hosts bottom corner on 50 minutes following a Michael Simpson corner. Unfortunately the hosts had 16 quality players for our level at their disposal and were able to bring on some very talented players as the alarm bells rang in the home dug out. One of those players stood out amongst the rest as he managed to pick out our top corner from 25 yards twice in 6 minutes to bring the match level, and as tiredness set in they caught us out once again, some good wing play resulting in another of their subs to finish from 6 yards. Winshill rounded up the scoring in the last minute of injury time on the break as we pressed for an equaliser, the otherwise outstanding MOTM Adam Davis fumbling a shot from Winshill’s MOTM as he claimed his hat trick. Another defeat but with that performance to build on there is now a new belief in the camp we can begin to make an impression on Division 2 when the fixtures finally get a little less harsh. We now head into three weeks of distraction from the league, starting this week as we face FC Britannia at Hood Park tomorrow in the County Cup, our reward for seeing of Leicestershire Constabulary in the last round. Britannia currently sit top of the Leicester Sunday Leagues 1st Division so it will be a big ask for us to progress, but every player will be giving their all to reach the final 16 teams in the County. We then play the above mentioned game away to Coopers Arms before playing Woodville Rangers for the third time this season on the 16th, the Division 2 Cup Quarter Final being the second of three visits they will make to Hood Park this season. Points will need to be taken from fellow strugglers Ticknall Rangers and Hilton Old Talbot when we return to league action later in the month. Finally all the best to both Tony, Craig, and all the lads wearing Ivanhoe colours in both first and reserve County Cup fixtures this weekend. Stuart Mann Sunday Team Assistant Manager

DOWN MEMORY LANE WITH MOG This is unusual & for the first time in weeks I am writing notes after a defeat. Let’s hope Arnold Town was just an “off day” and that we got back to winning ways at Anstey on Tuesday. For those of you that travelled to Arnold, what an impressive ground it was, and so it should be at an alleged cost of £1.5M! Now far be it for me to criticise but I really do think that our NFU has a much more warm and welcoming feel to it than almost anywhere we have been so far this season & I cannot wait to see our first game under the lights it should be fantastic. I’ll leave Stuart to give us more details on the plans but it seems a very short time ago that we were all laying slabs and cutting turf at Hood Park for the first set of ground improvements. Richard “The Baron” Bagshaw was in charge of operations building the dugouts which originally had a seat in them until they were dismantled brick by brick by local vandals and also erecting the barrier. Stan Ward assisted with the hard standing path and I remember him getting very grumpy with his labouring assistants when they inadvertently stumbled onto the newly laid path in their haste to get to the bacon sandwiches. So today is Sileby and we have met them many times down the years and the games have always been very competitive, rather too competitive for Danny Grieveson who notoriously always had a touch of “Sileby hamstring” ahead of a visit to Memorial Park. Finally, Stuart has asked me to select my best all time Ivanhoe XI so I will reveal my goalkeeper today and my defence in the next issue. Whilst we have 2 superb keepers currently in Chris Hodge and the legendary John Noon, my choice is Mark “Scoot” Wheatley, daft as a brush, yes but isn’t that a pre-requisite in that position. Scoot gave his defenders so much confidence with his constant chatter (most of it hilarious) but his agility, positional sense and shot stopping ability which at times could be breath-taking makes him my number one. That will get you all arguing I am sure. Good luck to Tony and the boys today, enjoy the game. Dave Morris Club President

ASHBY IVANHOE FC SUPPORTERS CLUB A warm welcome to everyone here today for Ivanhoe’s county cup match against Sileby Town here at the NFU Sports Ground. Last Saturday saw the 1st team’s unbeaten run come to a dramatic end losing 3-0 away at Arnold Town although disappointing all teams sometimes have a bad day and it was our turn on Saturday. So today we have a break from league action and today’s county cup match against Sileby Town from the Senior League which should be another tough match but I expect us to win and my prediction is a 3-0 victory. Our reserve team had another good win against Hathern winning 2-1 but slip to 2nd place which is still brilliant so well done lads. Last weekend my grandsons were back in action. The U11s won 7-2 and Matt scored a brilliant hat trick costing me 3 quid. Finally as you can see the lights are now installed and working and I think the ground is looking fantastic so well done to the management team. Good luck to all our teams this weekend and don’t forget if have any comments regarding the club please e-mail me at mh.buckley@btinternet.com Mick Buckley Supporters Club Chairman

THE OPPOSITION SILEBY TOWN Today’s visitors Sileby Town currently play in the Leicestershire Senior League Premier Division and they are currently the only unbeaten side in the division as after drawing their opening match they have won 10 matches in a row to sit in fourth place. They also know where the net is, scoring 30 goals so far this season and scoring three or more goals in each of their last nine league matches. ASHBY IVANHOE FC CLUB HISTORY Ashby Ivanhoe Football Club was founded in 1948 and play their home matches at the NFU Sports Ground, Lower Packington Road, Ashby de la Zouch in Leicestershire. This is the clubs new home from the beginning of the 2012/2013 season. Since being founded in 1948 up until the end of the 2011/2012 season the clubs previous home was at Hood Park also in Ashby de la Zouch. The club currently consists of three adult teams and a youth team. The first team play in the East Midlands Counties League, with the Reserves in the Leicestershire Senior League Division One. In the 2008/2009 season the club formed a Youth Team (Under 18’s) side who play in the Leicestershire Midweek Floodlit Youth League on Wednesday nights. A Sunday team was re-introduced for the 2012/2013 season and they play in the Burton Sunday League Division Two. The club also has 11 junior sides ranging from Under 9’s through to Under 17’s who play in the Burton Junior Football League, Tamworth Junior Football League and the Derby City League. The junior section came after the club merged with the David Hunt Soccer School at the beginning of the 20092010 season. In February 2004, Ashby Ivanhoe became an FA Charter Standard football club. The club is very ambitious and has plans to progress further up the league pyramid system. The club is run by an experienced management team and enjoys the support of some very prestigious commercial partners. Ashby Ivanhoe had one of their most successful seasons in 2010/11 as they completed a league and cup double by winning the Leicestershire Senior League by nine points and also lifted the Coalville Charity Cup for the very first time after producing a superb second half comeback to beat Bardon Hill 3-2 in the final. They have also reached successive Leicestershire Senior Cup finals in 2011/2012 and 2012/2013 but had to settle for runners-up on both occasions losing 3-1, firstly to Ibstock United and then Aylestone Park. The 2013/2014 season saw the first team achieve a long-term ambition as they won promotion into the Step 6 East Midlands Counties League for the 2014/2015 season after finishing third place in the Leicestershire Senior League. It was a close title race with the top three all finishing level on points with Ashby third on goal difference. The Reserves were also promoted to the Leicestershire Senior League Division One.
