CHAIRMANS WELCOME Good afternoon and welcome to todays game against Radcliffe Olympic FC and may I extend a very warm welcome to the players, spectators and club officials of Radcliffe Olympic FC and hope that you enjoy our hospitality.

Off the field: The 50 seater stand we are installing at the ground is nearer to reality and will be in place ahead of the 31st March deadline. This will take the overall investment made by the club and associated funding bodies this season to over ÂŁ50,000 and at this level of football that is a significant investment and is testament to how committed we are to continue to move the club forward for the good of everyone involved. It is always welcoming when people stop me and have nothing but praise for the club and what we have achieved so far in our short time at LPR. Further works are scheduled for the summer and a revised layout of the ground is nearly complete which will mean provision for a separate hospitality area, club shop, meeting room, directors/official seating and outside spectator toilets along with new patio area and associated works to the Knights Bar. It is my hope that we will be holding a small presentation of these plans on the coming weeks and notice will be given should you wish to attend. During the summer we will continue to improve the pitches and surroundings at the ground and if you have any spare time on your hands to trim hedges, paint doors, dig holes etc then please do let me know as every extra pair of hands is very much welcomed (rewarded with a cold pint of lager on a summers evening).

FIRST TEAM MANAGEMENT

Over the coming weeks you will also see works being carried out on the road from our entrance to the T Junction on Upper Packington Road. This is being carried out by the County Council and will involve the laying of much needed drainage pipe and curb stones to run alongside the hedge on our side of the road. This should dramatically reduce the water that runs onto our ground from the highway and in turn adds to the water on the pitches. The entrance to the ground will also be widened ahead of the club then completing a new access scheme to improve both visibility and safety for cars and pedestrians visiting the ground.

RESERVE TEAM MANAGEMENT

This week I have invited Burton Albion to play us in a match to officially open the floodlights and I am awaiting confirmation that they will accommodate this and I will keep you informed of their decision. The game, if agreed, will be played towards the end of February – mid March and should be a great occasion for the club, spectators and players.

FIRST TEAM UPDATE I would like to give a warm welcome to the players and officials of Radcliffe Olympic FC and as we are still in January, I would like to wish them all a Happy New Year. Our away fixture against today’s opponents proved to be very difficult, as two thirds of our players didn’t turn up to the game until 15 minutes before kickoff. This was due to the road works leading into and out of Nottingham; therefore, our normal preparation for a game was greatly affected. However, on the day, our players showed great mental toughness and professionalism to go on and win all 3 points and to also keep a clean sheet. As many of you know, I haven’t played the same 11 all season to date. Moreover, many of our squad members have been unavailable for different reasons during the season, and adding to that, those available players at times fell below the high standards they have set. However, credit to all the players and my management team for being where we are in the table. I would like to give credit to Callum McBride, as the first period of the season, I felt that he found it difficult and fell below the high standards that he set last season, and due to his high standards, he won the most improved player of the season last year. However, after the South Normanton game, Callum has shown great resolve, attitude and determination and he has delivered some exceptional performances, notably his colossal performance in the first half against St Andrews. He kept the score line down to 1-0, which enabled the team to go on and win the game. During the last 2 games, he has shown patience and good attitude and when needed, he has stepped up to the mark. Today’s fixture will be a difficult one. I am hoping that our supporters see as many goals as we scored in the previous home game; scoring 9 goals against Greenwood Meadows. I hope you all enjoy today’s game. Anthony Hemmings First Team Manager

MATCH REPORT VS GREENWOOD MEADOWS ASHBY IVANHOE 9 Saunders 15, 24, 41 Holmes 35, Lowe 45+1(p), Thorogood 60, Tozer 83, D Sharp 87, Mcbride 90

GREENWOOD MEADOWS 1 J Sharp 33, East Midlands Counties Football League Saturday 10th January 2015 It was goals galore at the NFU Sports Ground as Ashby Ivanhoe started 2015 with a 9-1 thrashing of bottom of the table Greenwood Meadows. Surprisingly the reverse fixture back in October had ended in just a 1-0 victory for Ashby but a first half hat-trick from Chris Saunders and goals for Macauley Holmes and Josh Lowe put Ashby in control at the break before second half goals from Luke Thorogood, Luke Tozer, Dan Sharp and Callum McBride completed Ashby biggest victory of the season. Ashby started the match well and they had a couple of half chances early on but dangerous crosses into the area were straight across goal with nobody able to get the decisive touch to put the ball into the net before the visitors had their first chance of the match on 14 minutes when the ball fell to a player outside the area and his shot went narrowly past the post. Seconds later though and Ashby were in front with a quick break from the goal kick and from the right hand side Luke Thorogood sent a cross into the area and at the near post Chris Saunders provided the finish into the top corner for his first of the match and the advantage was doubled midway through the first half and it was Saunders again who found the net when he capitalised on the Greenwood keeper failing to hold onto a shot and he finished from close range. On the half hour mark the visitors went close to pulling a goal back when the ball was played through into the area which resulted in a shot at goal which struck the top of the crossbar and over but on 33 minutes they were back in the match when Ashby switched off at the back and a shot was struck from the edge of the area and past keeper Chris Hodge before finding the net off the inside of the far post. Greenwood weren’t back into the match for long though and inside the remaining ten minutes of the first half Ashby found the net three times to put the match out of reach of the visitors. The first of the three goals came on 35 minutes when a cross into the area from the left found captain Macauley Holmes at the far post and he headed home his first goal of the season. On 41 minutes it became 4-1 when the ball was played through the Greenwood defence and with just the keeper to beat the ball was unselfishly passed left to Saunders and he was left with an empty net with which to completed his hattrick before the final goal of the first half came in the first minute of stoppage time when a penalty was awarded after a player was brought down inside the area and Josh Lowe stepped up to put the spot kick beyond the keeper’s dive and into the bottom corner to give Ashby a 5-1 lead at the break. The start of the second half saw Ashby continue to attack and inside the opening minutes they put in a couple more dangerous crosses which caused trouble for the Greenwood defence but no one was able to turn the ball home and the visitors also had a chance to pull a goal back but a free kick was just over the bar.

MATCH REPORT VS GREENWOOD MEADOWS The next goal came on the hour mark and it was the goal of the match scored by Luke Thorogood who struck a thunderbolt of a shot from the edge of the area after the ball was played back to him and his shot beat the keeper before striking the underside of the bar bouncing down just over the line and back out with the assistant referee indicating the ball had crossed the line to make it 6-1. It almost became seven just two minutes later when substitute Scott Cordy beat the keeper to the ball to the left of goal and he played the ball back to Luke Tozer who saw his shot blocked by a defender and the loose ball ran back to Cordy and his effort was cleared off the line at the near post. There was then a bit of quiet spell for around 15 minutes before an actioned packed final ten minutes with three further goals. On 83 minutes it became 7-1 when a free kick was played into the area and with Callum McBride and the keeper going for the ball the ball ran loose and left Tozer with an easy finish at the back post with a first time effort. With five minutes remaining Greenwood were reduced to ten men when the Ashby attacker got behind the Greenwood defence and just had the keeper to beat who had rushed off his line and with the shot straight at him he saved the effort but he was now beyond his area and the referee was left with little choice but to produce the red card. With an outfield player now having to going in goal Ashby sensed a couple more goals and on 88 minutes they made it 8-1 when Dan Sharp was put through on the left and after advancing into the area his shot across goal was under the replacement keeper and into the net and then on 90 minutes a shot from inside the area was turned in by substitute McBride from close range to complete the scoring.

DOWN MEMORY LANE WITH MOG Good afternoon, and let’s hope you have a game to watch this afternoon after a very chilly week. For those of you that travelled to a cold Kimberley MW last week I hope you have thawed out and wasn’t it a relief to see our last minute equaliser go in. I certainly didn’t think we deserved to lose the game on what must be the worst pitch I have seen us play on in many years. It was a real throw back to Hood Park (before the pitch was moved towards The Shed End) at its most er damaged in the early eighties, a real pudding and credit to both teams (well ok mostly ours) for trying to play football on it. Talking of “fortress Hood Park” as Mr Roome would put it that pitch reminded me of a glorious goal of mine in around 1983 time. At home pouring rain & Steve Wardle and I broke out of defence after defending a corner late in the game when the opposition were chasing the game. Steve ran the length of the field beat the keeper and produced a lovely side foot finish & turned away to celebrate. Sadly for him he hadn’t bargained for the big puddle in the goalmouth and yours truly followed up and splashed it in from a yard, lovely, “just your distance” I can hear Mr Tissington say. And talking of old farts, Kenny Horn was telling me about his frozen Sunday morning pitch last week (yes he is STILL playing) and how in these wacky days of health and safety how surprised he was it was on. Again it reminded me of an incident from the early eighties on a wonderful Shobnall Fields where the words “health and safety” had no relevance whatsoever. As Kenny’s pitch on Sunday it was a freezing cold morning and myself and Pete Gardener were subs. These were the days before sub suits and we were standing witnessing a “Bambi on ice” non-festival of football drawing to an inevitable 0-0 close when Micky Broxhome gave me the nod to warm up. On the basis there was no radiator in sight and I couldn’t feel my feet I declined his kind offer. Pete did not. He was well up for in and by the time he has regained movement in his feet there was only 5 minutes left. No matter he would enjoy his Sunday morning run out & trotted onto the ice rink enthusiastically. Unfortunately his only contribution to the game brought catastrophic consequences when joining the game at centre half he turned to tap a back pass back to our keeper, slipped and hoofed the ball into our own net. We lost 1-0 & it has to be the least successful substitution in Ivanhoe history, hilarious. Anyway I won’t be at the game today, I am on a jolly boys outing to Cheltenham Races & hopefully having a profitable and warm afternoon in The Arkle Bar. Good luck to Tony & the boys today, enjoy the game. Dave Morris Club President

ASHBY IVANHOE FC SUPPORTERS CLUB A warm welcome to everyone here today for Ivanhoe’s East Midland Counties match against Radcliffe Olympic here at the NFU Sports Ground. Last Saturday saw the 1st team play away at Kimberley Miners Welfare on a somewhat boggy pitch and although coming away with a point after a 1-1 draw I thought we should have won especially having missed a penalty and see it as two points dropped. So to today’s match against Radcliffe Olympic who are currently 3rd from bottom of the league and after winning 1-0 at their ground I expect an Ivanhoe win and my prediction today is a 3-1 win. The Reserves are away today at Holwell Sports Reserves and a win today would see them climb back towards the top of the table and this coming Wednesday sees the U18s at home vs Gresley Youth and your support would be appreciated. Good luck to all our teams this weekend and may I wish you all a belated Happy New Year. Don’t forget if have any comments regarding the club please e-mail me at mh.buckley@btinternet.com. THE OPPOSITION RADCLIFFE OLYMPIC Radcliffe Olympic FC was founded in 1876, making it one of the oldest football clubs in Nottinghamshire, a forerunner for other clubs. During the early period the standard of players at the club was extremely high. One player who was to go on to play international football was Harry Butler Daft who played for the club in the early 1890's. Although long term history is hard to find when looking for club honours Olympic enjoyed early success as a club. In the 1900/01 season Olympic were the Notts Alliance Champions. The next period that we found Olympic success was the early 1930's. In the 1929/30 season the club won the Notts Alliance Divisional 2 Cup. The 1931/32 season saw the club win both the Notts Alliance Division Two and the South Notts League. The 1940's brought more silverware when in 1946/47 Olympic won both the Notts Realm League Division One and the Notts Realm League Division One Cup. In the 1947/48 season the Notts Realm League Division One Cup was retained. Olympic next had success in the mid to late 1960's. In a six year period between the 1965/66 and 1970/71 seasons Olympic won three Midlands Amateur Alliance League titles, the Central Alliance Premier Division, the East Midlands Regional League Division One and the Midlands Amateur Alliance Senior Cup in the 1967/88 season. Throughout the 1990's Radcliffe Olympic hit a purple patch winning the Notts Alliance Division One in 1990/91 and the Nottingham & District Spartan League Division One in 1991/92. As well as these two league Championships Olympic had cup success winning the Nottingham & District Spartan League Cup in 1990/91, the Midland Amateur Alliance Intermediate Cup 1996/97 and were runners up in the Notts FA Intermediate Cup in 1992/93 and in the Notts Alliance Intermediate Cup in 1996/97. As the Club entered its third century the success continued. In the 2001/02 season they won the Notts Alliance Division Three Championship and the Notts Intermediate Cup. In 2002/03 the First Team won the Notts Alliance Senior Division and the Notts Alliance Senior Cup. In the summer of 2003 Radcliffe Olympic amalgamated with local Club ASC Dayncourt to create one of the biggest clubs in Nottinghamshire with it retaining the famous Radcliffe Olympic name. The club created four sections the Seniors, Intermediates, Juniors and Ladies to provided equal opportunities for everyone to play football. The success continued in the 2003/04 season when the First Team were crowed Champions of the Central Midland League Premier Division. This was mirrored by the Reserve Team who won the Central Midlands League Reserve Division One. The 2004/05 season saw the First Team play in the Central Midlands League Supreme Division and the 2006/07 season saw the First Team make their debut in the FA Vase. The 2008/09 saw the First Team crowned Champions of the Central Midlands League Supreme Division.

THE OPPOSITION The 2009/10 season saw the First Team play in the East Midlands Counties Football League Premier Division. The 2010/11 season was a historic moment as the First Team made their debut in the FA Cup and played seven ties in five rounds before eventually being knocked out in the Third Round Qualifier. The 2011/12 season saw the First Team rebuild under Kevin Waddley, Wayne Miles and Steve Morris reaching the East Midlands Counties League Cup Final. The 2013/14 season saw the Seniors First Team make it into the East Midlands Counties League Cup Semi Final. This season the management have been busy bringing in new players to strengthen the squad as they look to improve on last season’s finish. The future of Radcliffe Olympic FC is looking bright. The club is at its strongest position in probably its entire history on and off the pitch.

ASHBY IVANHOE FC CLUB HISTORY Ashby Ivanhoe Football Club was founded in 1948 and play their home matches at the NFU Sports Ground, Lower Packington Road, Ashby de la Zouch in Leicestershire. This is the clubs new home from the beginning of the 2012/2013 season. Since being founded in 1948 up until the end of the 2011/2012 season the clubs previous home was at Hood Park also in Ashby de la Zouch. The club currently consists of three adult teams and a youth team. The first team play in the East Midlands Counties League, with the Reserves in the Leicestershire Senior League Division One. In the 2008/2009 season the club formed a Youth Team (Under 18’s) side who play in the Leicestershire Midweek Floodlit Youth League on Wednesday nights. A Sunday team was re-introduced for the 2012/2013 season and they play in the Burton Sunday League Division Two. The club also has 11 junior sides ranging from Under 9’s through to Under 17’s who play in the Burton Junior Football League, Tamworth Junior Football League and the Derby City League. The junior section came after the club merged with the David Hunt Soccer School at the beginning of the 20092010 season. In February 2004, Ashby Ivanhoe became an FA Charter Standard football club. The club is very ambitious and has plans to progress further up the league pyramid system. The club is run by an experienced management team and enjoys the support of some very prestigious commercial partners. Ashby Ivanhoe had one of their most successful seasons in 2010/11 as they completed a league and cup double by winning the Leicestershire Senior League by nine points and also lifted the Coalville Charity Cup for the very first time after producing a superb second half comeback to beat Bardon Hill 3-2 in the final. They have also reached successive Leicestershire Senior Cup finals in 2011/2012 and 2012/2013 but had to settle for runners-up on both occasions losing 3-1, firstly to Ibstock United and then Aylestone Park. The 2013/2014 season saw the first team achieve a long-term ambition as they won promotion into the Step 6 East Midlands Counties League for the 2014/2015 season after finishing third place in the Leicestershire Senior League. It was a close title race with the top three all finishing level on points with Ashby third on goal difference. The Reserves were also promoted to the Leicestershire Senior League Division One.
