Ashby Ivanhoe FC achieve Top 10% National Club Award from the FA… The club was officially awarded the FA Charter Standard Community Club Award last week and this signifies how far we have come in such a short period of time. To give you an idea of the level of the award, The FA have 6800 Charter Standard clubs and just 653 advanced level Community Clubs, of which Ashby Ivanhoe FC are 1. There are three levels of FA Charter Standard Awards for clubs to recognise the different standards. The entry level is an ‘FA Charter Standard Club’, the next level is an ‘FA Charter Standard Development Club’ and the most advanced ‘FA Charter Standard Community Club’. Each advanced level requires additional criteria to be met. On behalf of the club I would like to extend a huge thank you to Andy Topham and Martin Smith who co-ordinated all the work to enable us to achieve the award. Last week saw the club benefit from a donation of £400 from the Ferrers & Ivanhoe Lodge no.779. A cheque was presented to Alex Clarke (Under 8’s Development Coach) by the Worshipful Master, Jeremy E. MillingtonPipe and the money will be used to purchase new Mini Soccer Goals for the smaller age groups up to age 9. A huge thank you to the Ferrers & Ivanhoe Lodge No.770 for their kind support. CAN YOU HELP TO SPONSOR A SEAT IN OUR NEW STAND? I would like to call on all spectators and ask if you are able to Sponsor a Seat in our New Stand. As some of you will know we have been working hard to get the funding and planning in place for the new stand that is featured in this programme. We now have all things in place and are looking to have the stand in place by Christmas. However, we need to raise as much money as we can towards the overall cost of £21000 and one way you can help is to Sponsor a Seat. We are looking at placing the order before the end of October and have extended the offer of 3 seasons FREE ENTRY until 31st Oct if you reserve and pay for your seat before then – if you would like to talk to me or reserve your seat then let me know. The seats are available to anyone in the Community, friends and family too so spread the word and be part of history. All that remains is to thank you for your continued support and to wish our players well today and hope we all are in for a good game. Stuart Bonser Club Chairman Ps – if you are visiting the ground by car please DO NOT OBSTRUCT the junction to Cambrian Way by parking on the grass/path verge as this is both dangerous and you could get a fixed penalty notice from the Council and or Police.

FIRST TEAM UPDATE Good afternoon and welcome to the home of Ashby Ivanhoe FC. May I extend a very warm welcome on behalf of the Club to everyone attending today’s match and in particular the players, officials and supporters of our opponents Graham Street Prims. It proved to be unlucky 13 as our unbeaten start came to an end in our last home game against a very capable South Normanton Athletic. For whatever reason we didn’t show up for the first 45 minutes and a mixture of good fortune and outstanding goalkeeping kept us in the game. Going one nil down on the stroke of half time was a blow and again re-iterates the need to defend set plays properly. If we had organised ourselves as we should have and blocked the goal scorer’s run we would have gone in level and the game may have panned out differently. The players reacted well to some home truths at half time and for fifteen minutes we played with the required intensity and scored two quality goals. However, we stepped off the pace again once we had the lead and two further set plays saw us defeated. In football you can’t just dip in and out of games, we gave the opposition encouragement when we had them on the rack and paid the price. Fair play to South Normanton they were the better side for 75 minutes of the game and deserved the 3 points. Last Saturday we travelled to Greenwood Meadows looking to bounce back from the disappointment of the previous Saturday’s defeat. The message through the week was “being challenged in life is inevitable, being defeated is optional,” how you respond to a setback is ultimately what determines success or failure. The original plans for the game were amended when we arrived at the ground and saw the state of the pitch which had not been prepared at all. We took a cautious approach playing one up front and drew a blank in the first 45 minutes although we dominated the game. In the second half we reverted to a more familiar formation and finally broke the deadlock with two late goals. With respect to today’s game, we need to press on and put in a complete performance which to date we have not executed. Hopefully we can rekindle the fluidity of our first half performance against Holwell the battling qualities of the Aylestone game and the compact defensive shape against Holbrook to provide an entertaining performance with the desired outcome. Without repeating myself again, to date results have been better than performances which will only take us so far but not ultimately to where we want to be. We are a work in progress and progress we will. Thank you for your support and enjoy the game. Miles Warriner First Team Management Team

MATCH ACTION VS SOUTH NORMANTON ATHLETIC ASHBY IVANHOE 2-3 SOUTH NORMANTON ATHLETIC EAST MIDLANDS COUNTIES FOOTBALL LEAGUE SATURDAY 10TH OCTOBER 2015
Ashby Ivanhoe saw their unbeaten start to the season ended as they were beaten by the odd goal in five against fellow title challengers South Normanton Athletic. The visitors were the better side in the first half but only opened the scoring in stoppage time at the end of the half. The first ten minutes of the second half saw Ashby turn the match around with two well taken finishes before South Normanton levelled and then edged in front for the second time and despite Ashby hitting the post in the closing minutes the visitors held on. It was South Normanton who made the best start to the match and inside the opening ten minutes they had two very good chances to score the first goal when first a shot was deflected wide and the second saw a player beat a couple of Ashby defenders before seeing his shot blocked. The visitors were much the better side in the first half and Ashby were facing their toughest examination of the season as the pressure mounted and with ten minutes of the first half remaining there were three chances in quick succession for the deadlock to be broken. Ashby keeper Chris Hodge tipped the first effort away from goal before a shot from the edge of the area struck the inside of the post before Ashby managed to clear but the ball came straight back towards goal and the follow-up effort was blocked. Ashby had their first real chance of the match five minutes before the break when the ball was passed low through the South Normanton defence for Scott Cordy to run onto before seeing his shot blocked by the keeper who had rushed off his line to save at the feet of the Ivanhoe player. The first goal of the match came in the second minute of stoppage time when a free kick from out on the left was played into the area and the ball was headed on towards goal and found the net off the inside of the post to send the visitors in at the break with a deserved 1-0 lead. The opening ten minutes of the first half saw Ashby come out looking to quickly get back into the match and they were helped in the 50th minute when a poor clearance from the opposition keeper, who had rushed off his line to beat Kerr Horn to the ball, fell straight to the feet of Chris Waldrum but full credit to the Ivanhoe player who from 40 yards still had to produce a finish and his first time effort found the back of the unguarded net to level the scores. And the turnaround was completed just four minutes later when again poor defending let Ashby in and another fine finish put them into a 2-1 lead. It came from a South Normanton throw-in halfway in their half and with Ashby winning the ball and playing it forward the defence opened up and the ball fell kindly for Danny Quinn and from 20 yards he struck a powerful shot across goal with the ball finding the bottom corner before the keeper had even moved. The lead only lasted five minutes though when South Normanton were awarded a free kick just outside the area in a centre position to goal and the free kick was struck low and through the wall finding the bottom corner beyond Hodge to level the scores at 2-2. 8

MATCH ACTION VS SOUTH NORMANTON ATHLETIC Both sides then had chances to take the lead with firstly Scott Cordy having a chance for Ashby when he got onto the end of a headed clearance following a cross but his shot was just wide of the far post and the chance for South Normanton saw a headed effort at goal tipped over the bar by Hodge. The decisive fifth goal arrived 13 minutes from time and it was the visitors who got it following another set-piece. This time it came from a corner which was played short before being returned to the corner taker who then but a high and long ball into the area and at the back post the ball was headed back into the centre of the area where a player was positioned to head home from close range. As the visitors looked to hold on to their slender lead the final few minutes saw Ashby having the majority of the possession in the South Normanton half and they were the width of the post away from scoring an equaliser when substitute Antonio Williams received the ball and from just inside the area to the left side he sent a shot across goal which struck the inside of the post before being cleared and the visitors saw out the remainder of the match to inflict Ashby’s first defeat of the season but on reflection of the 90 minutes the better side came out on top. ASHBY IVANHOE FC SUPPORTERS CLUB THE OPPOSITION
A warm welcome to everyone here for today’s 1st team East Midlands Counties League match at the NFU Sports Ground STAPENHILL against Graham Street Prims. They were formed in 1947 and ten years after formation they joined the Leicestershire Senior After the disappointingLeague home defeat South Normanton it was nice togaining bounce back within antheir awaydebut victory at lowly Divisionagainst Two and found immediate success, promotion season and Greenwood Meadowswinning with a stumbling performance on a pitchin that only betwo described as poor hey weincame the Division One championship thecan following seasons. They but remained that away with all 3 points. A 2-0division, win withapart goals from from aDanny and Luke Thorogood. The attendance was reported to1988/1989. be 35 but on my count was below Premier twice more – 1986/1987 and 20, and the pitch terrible which shows how far this club has developed over the last 3 years so once again thanks to the chairman volunteers for their continued Premier support Division, in keepingstaying the ground pitchseasons up to a until high standard. They thenand joined the Midland Combination thereand for five they became a founding member of the Midland Alliance where they remained until resigning from the league in January 2002. IN OPPOSITION TODAY GRAHAM STREET PRIMS Graham Street Prims were originally founded in 1904, being formed from a primitive Methodist Church from which they derived the name “Prims”. Graham Street itself is actually situated off Osmaston Road in the city of Derby and is close to the Baseball Ground, former home of Derby County until they moved to their new home at Pride Park. Prims were disbanded in 1914 due to the outbreak of the first world war but in the ten year period until that time they boasted several players who went on to play league football, these included the Keetley brothers and Jimmy Bagshaw who eventually went on to play for Notts County and England. Prims were reformed in 1953 and achieved many honours, mainly in the Central Alliance, The East Midlands League and the Derbyshire Senior League. The finest years came between 1971 and 1981 when they won no less than fifteen major honours including seven Derbyshire FA Cup wins and eight League titles. In 1991 Prims were again disbanded due to not having a suitable ground of the required league standard but in 1995 were reformed through a merger with Derby Carriage & Wagon FC. Since reforming, they have been semi-finalists in the Derbyshire Senior Cup, beating Matlock Town on the way and losing to Belper Town 2-0 in the semi final. They gained promotion from the Premier Division of the Central Midlands League to the Supreme Division, finishing fifth in their first season in the higher division. After suffering four years of continual vandalism at the Railway Ground in Longbridge Lane, Derby and having been relegated for not having floodlights, the club was on the verge of folding once more. But a determined committee met with officials from Borrowash Victoria FC at the Asterdale Sports and Social Club in Spondon and owners of the land, The Heritage Pub Company as a result, a pitch and the promise of a lease was offered. Prims committee met with Officials from the Central Midlands League, led by Mr Frank Harwood, they gave the goahead to our new home and work soon started on the ground. New post & rail was erected and new pitch drainage was installed. Re-seeding and verti draining of the pitch has also took place as well as a complete conversion of the old “Band Hut” into a dressing room complex and hospitality suite. Installation of a 2 metre high fence around the perimeter of the pitch with floodlights installed and the siting of a portacabin to provide refreshments for spectators as well as separate toilets also being completed. Raising the money for this operation, which has taken place over a number of years was a mammoth task with fund raising, loans and grants being obtained, this resulted in the club paying out around £90-100K. In 2008 the Asterdale club closed, this brought about a spate of vandalism, which cost Prims a great deal of time and money which they could ill afford, repairing roof’s, replacing glass and removing graffiti etc. Eventually new buyers for the sight were found. The new owners, ROSCOM decided they would knock down the old club to build an office block and also promised new facilities for Prims, this is still the aim but an agreement between Roscom and the City Council over the planning application has still to be agreed. The new owner has assured us that they are very keen to keep sport going at the ground and after meeting with them our future looks bright, meanwhile negotiations for a long term lease are ongoing. On the playing side season 2008-2009 saw a new league formed for the East Midlands at step six in the FA Pyramid system, teams primarily from the Central Midlands League, Leicester Senior League and the Notts Alliance was formed with Prims among the teams competing as founder members. We were also joined by our near neighbours, Borrowash Victoria, who left the Northern Counties (East) League to join the East Midlands Counties, ensuring two excellent local derbies in prospect. Our Reserves were placed in the new Central Midlands Supreme Reserve League with our under 18’s side competing in the Derby City League. Wayne Harvey Toon remains as Club Chairman and Ray Garlick has agreed to sponsor maintenance of the ground for three years, resulting in our ground being known as the RAYGAR ARENA.

vs Graham Street Prims | Saturday 24th October 2015 | www.ashbyivanhoefc.com
IN OPPOSITION TODAY Since the highly successful seasons of the 70’s and 80’s progress has been somewhat steady, to say the least, this has been mainly due to us competing with other local sides who are in a position to offer incentives to players, where we are clearly in no position to offer any form of payment. This inability to attract players seeking some form of remuneration caused Prims another problem with managers, resulting in us having EIGHT managers over a period of eighteen years. Most of the managers over this period had played for Prims at some time and like the rest of the Managers, found difficulty recruiting good quality players. In 2009 Prims appointed Mick Rodgers (who had been very successful with Vics), however he too suffered from the same problem as previous managers and resigned half way through the season. Prims committee were again forced to advertise in the local press and through various local league websites and after interviewing three candidates, Mark Webster was appointed in December 2009 with the task of keeping Prims in the EMCL. Mark had been very successful with Holbrook MW (now Holbrook Sports), another of Prims local rivals, bringing a wealth of experience he set about his task of bringing some stability to the club. He brought with him Mick Bentley (who had been with Prims previously) and was joined by Tony Collins and Mark Harris who brought their own young Chellaston team to form the nucleus of the Reserves. Because of Prims inability to pay players Mark’s aim was to concentrate mainly on youth. In the 2011-2012 season Ian McAndrew joined Prims from Mickleover Sports as Mark’s assistant. Mark demanded loyalty from everyone at the club including the committee and last season saw his efforts bear fruit with the 1st team reaching the final of the league cup and finishing eighth in the league. The reserves reaching the semi-final of the DFA Divisional Cup and finishing fifth in their league and the Youth team finishing runners-up in the Derby City Under 18 League. The club now enjoys a welcome return to the days of the “Community Spirit” which must go down to the discipline Mark has instilled in his players. He has not been frightened to bring young players into the first team, and has brought about a very optimistic future for the club. The 2013-2014 season sees a new club structure launched and designed by Tony Collins to bring a more professional look to the committee and throughout the club. With everyone pulling in the right direction and if we can get the dressing room plans sorted the outlook for the club is very bright indeed. This season Prims will be competing in the FA Cup for the first time in their history as well as the FA Vase.

ASHBY IVANHOE FC CLUB HISTORY Ashby Ivanhoe Football Club was founded in 1948 and play their home matches at the NFU Sports Ground, Lower Packington Road, Ashby de la Zouch in Leicestershire. This is the clubs new home from the beginning of the 2012/2013 season. Since being founded in 1948 up until the end of the 2011/2012 season the clubs previous home was at Hood Park also in Ashby de la Zouch. The club currently consists of four adult teams and a youth team. The first team play in the East Midlands Counties League, with the Reserves in the Leicestershire Senior League Premier Division. In the 2008/2009 season the club formed a Youth Team (Under 18’s) side who play in the Leicestershire Midweek Floodlit Youth League on Wednesday nights. A Sunday team was re-introduced for the 2012/2013 season and they play in the Burton Sunday League Division Three. For 2015/2016 a third Saturday side has been formed who will play in the North Leicestershire Football League Division One. The club also has 11 junior sides ranging from Under 9’s through to Under 17’s who play in the Burton Junior Football League, Tamworth Junior Football League and the Derby City League. The junior section came after the club merged with the David Hunt Soccer School at the beginning of the 2009-2010 season. In February 2004, Ashby Ivanhoe became an FA Charter Standard football club. The club is very ambitious and has plans to progress further up the league pyramid system. The club is run by an experienced management team and enjoys the support of some very prestigious commercial partners. Ashby Ivanhoe had one of their most successful seasons in 2010/11 as they completed a league and cup double by winning the Leicestershire Senior League by nine points and also lifted the Coalville Charity Cup for the very first time after producing a superb second half comeback to beat Bardon Hill 3-2 in the final. They have also reached successive Leicestershire Senior Cup finals in 2011/2012 and 2012/2013 but had to settle for runners-up on both occasions losing 3-1, firstly to Ibstock United and then Aylestone Park. The 2013/2014 season saw the first team achieve a long-term ambition as they won promotion into the Step 6 East Midlands Counties League for the 2014/2015 season after finishing third place in the Leicestershire Senior League. It was a close title race with the top three all finishing level on points with Ashby third on goal difference. The Reserves were also promoted to the Leicestershire Senior League Division One. 2014/2015 saw Ashby compete at Step 6 of the non-league pyramid for the first time and they had a very good season and secured a top six finish in the East Midlands Counties League which featured victories against all of the sides above them. The Reserve side were involved in a tight title race and it went down to a last day decider against Lutterworth Athletic Reserves but despite the result going against them on the day they were still promoted for the second season in succession and will play at Step 7 in the Leicestershire Senior League Premier Division for 2015/2016.
