As I wrote these notes, the Midweek Under 18’s were yet to play their first ever appearance in the FA Youth Cup so please flick through the programme or visit the website to find out how the got on. The 1st Team remain unbeaten and whilst we had a minor hiccup with the generator (out of water) ahead of the game starting on Tuesday, the team performed well and I witnessed a great team play goal for the 3rd with play from Chris Waldrum, Danny Quinn and James Purslow, who was heard screaming for the ball to be hit to the far post and Danny Quinn found him perfectly. If you tuned into BBC Radio Leicester ahead of the game on Tuesday you would have heard Miles Warriner give an interview of the season so far and I understand that this is another first for the club to be featured on BBC Radio Leicester as we have only managed to hit the airwaves of Hermitage FM in the past, we must be something right. There were plenty of visiting ground hoppers again on Tuesday night and they all spoke highly of the set up and the welcome they received, be sure to look out on their blogs and facebook, twitter links for reports and pictures from the game. We remain at the top of the attendance chart for the league and as I have said many times before, there are 3 key ingredients to maintaining a sustainable and joined up club. 1. Chimney Pots – our support helps the players, the atmosphere and to cover our match day costs and as the population continues to grow in Ashby we are reaching more and more new spectators as well as retaining the loyal ones. 2. Player catchment and club structure – unlike some clubs that think paying players is the way to succeed we have a completely different approach and we are fortunate that we can pull players from a distance close to the club and that don’t come with their hand out asking for cash and that genuinely want to play for the club and the management team – we also have a clear football pathway structure from the Under 7’s to the 1st team and one which will, over time, get players and coaches playing the “Ashby Way” and this will make for many good years to come as we will have a natural conveyor belt of youth coming through at one club. 3. Commercial support – again we do not rely on egotistical individuals to fund the club (or should I say players) but work hard to develop and grow relationships with our sponsors and we have a lot of national and local business within the town and our reputation for looking after our sponsors is growing – this on its own can make a club as without their sponsorship we would struggle to develop and grow as we have done. I would like to thank all of our supporters for your continued support of the team both home and away. It gives me great pleasure to see so many of you watching the team and I know that the players are very appreciative too as there’s nothing better than having great support encouraging you from the sidelines. All that remains is to wish our players well today and hope we all are in for a good game. Stuart Bonser Club Chairman

FIRST TEAM UPDATE ASHBY IVANHOE 4-1 HOLWELL SPORTS

Ashby faced a midweek league match against Holwell Sports on Tuesday evening and they stretched their unbeaten run in the league to ten matches including five straight wins with a 4-1 victory over Holwell Sports. The night didn’t start too well as just seconds before kick off the NFU was plunged into darkness but after a 25 minutes delay whilst the generator was topped up with water Ashby made the best start to the match and Kerr Horn scored the first with just three minutes gone. Ashby doubled their lead on 17 minutes when Danny Quinn was upended in the box and he stepped up himself and after waiting for the keeper to move slotted his spot-kick down the middle for 2-0 which it remained at the break. Holwell pulled a goal back when a corner was curled straight into the net at the far post but Ashby then upped their game and sealed victory with two more goals. The first came after good work by Quinn who produced a fine cross which was superbly headed home by James Purslow who had made a run into the area and the fourth and final goal came when a low cross into the area from substitute Chris Waldrum was turned into his own net by a Holwell defender finding the net off the inside of the post. Another three points and in the early season table Ashby continue to head the way with 26 points from their opening ten matches seven points clear of Radford and Holbrook Sports who do have matches in hand. A full match report from the Holwell Sports match will be available in next week’s programme.

LEICESTERSHIRE CHALLENGE CUP DRAW

The draw for the first round of the Leicestershire Challenge Cup has been made and in the first round Ashby will face an away tie at Northern Premier League Division One South side Loughborough Dynamo. The two sides have already met this season in a pre-season friendly which saw Ashby come out on top with a narrow 2-1 victory. The match is scheduled to take place on Tuesday 17th November 2015 with a 7:45pm kick off.

MATCH ACTION VS ARNOLD TOWN ASHBY IVANHOE 3-1 ARNOLD TOWN EAST MIDLANDS COUNTIES FOOTBALL LEAGUE SATURDAY 19TH SEPTEMBER 2015

Scott Cordy scored a first half brace and another from Kerr Horn saw Ashby record a comfortable 3-1 victory over Arnold Town. Ashby dominated the first half as they produced some great attacking football and they were rewarded when Cordy put them in front midway through the half. The final five minutes of the half saw Horn and then Cordy add to the scoresheet to put Ashby in a commanding position at the break and despite Arnold pulling one back late in the game there was to be no late comeback. After a slow start to the match the first chance brought the first goal and it was fine attacking play which opened up the Arnold Town defence. It all began when Cordy received the ball from Chris Saunders and he then passed the ball out wide to the right to Danny Quinn. The ball was then passed back through for Cordy to run onto and after getting behind the defence he slotted the ball beyond the keeper. Ashby then started to create numerous chances as the Arnold defence started to look very shaky but first Horn failed to hit the target after being put under pressure from a defender and then Saunders placed a shot towards the top corner but the keeper was equal to it and produced a fine save to tip the ball behind for a corner. It was from the resulting corner that Ashby doubled their advantage when the ball was played deep towards the back post which saw the ball headed back across goal and Horn was there to head home and make it 2-0. Ashby increased their lead further a minute before half time when Scott Reynolds struck a powerful low shot from distance towards the bottom corner and despite the keeper getting down to make the save he couldn’t hold onto the ball and Cordy was quickest to react to the loose ball and finish with a first time shot which sent Ashby in at the break 3-0 to the good. The second half started with Ashby looking to add to their tally and they were almost gifted a goal just five minutes into the half when an Arnold defender attempted a clearance which was sliced backwards and towards goal and with the keeper beaten he was fortunate to see the ball cannon back off the crossbar. On the hour mark Cordy had a chance to complete his hat-trick and it would have been a superb goal but after getting onto the end of a clearance following a corner his powerful long range effort was just the wrong side of the post. The visitors battled to the end and they did get on the scoresheet in the 76th minute when a corner played into the centre of the area was headed home but that was as good as it got for Arnold and they were sent back to Nottingham with a 3-1 defeat which maintains Ashby nine-match unbeaten start to the season. vs Aylestone Park | Saturday 26th September 2015 | www.ashbyivanhoefc.com

IN OPPOSITION TODAY AYLESTONE PARK Aylestone Park Senior Section was formed way back in 1980 and at that point it was a natural progression from youth team football where we were very successful at local level. Our early years saw us develop from Sunday morning adult football in the Charnwood League to our first taste of Saturday football courtesy of the Leicester & District League where we were very successful, gaining many league honours and various County FA Cup successes. Without doubt this was a very vibrant time for the club and on the back of our previous achievements we were eventually accepted into the Leicestershire Senior League, a major step up in not only playing standards but also level of facility. Floodlights, spectator stand and post and rail pitch were standard requirements back then in the late 80’s and without doubt Leicestershire football was at a very good level, with the likes of Shepshed Charterhouse, Quorn, Coalville Town, Barwell, Friar Lane Old Boys to name but a few, all making for some very attractive fixtures. Although ‘The Park’ thoroughly enjoyed their many years of Senior League membership, it became clear that the established clubs were looking to make progress and pursue pastures new. This ‘progression’ wasn’t lost on us and following our recent re-location to our new facilities in 2010 we finally enjoyed our best season to date in 2011-2012, gaining promotion to the East Midlands Counties League which provides football at Step 6 on the National Football Pyramid System. On a broader scale, Aylestone Park FC provides football in the local community for not only adult football but also a wide range of age group sections including mini-soccer, junior, youth and ladies football plus an inclusive section for youngsters with learning difficulties. It is this vision of how we see the whole footballing picture and what is required in our community that has enabled us to be assisted by various grant aid in addition to our own dedicated fundraising efforts that have gave us an outstanding, first-class facility.

ASHBY IVANHOE FC CLUB HISTORY Ashby Ivanhoe Football Club was founded in 1948 and play their home matches at the NFU Sports Ground, Lower Packington Road, Ashby de la Zouch in Leicestershire. This is the clubs new home from the beginning of the 2012/2013 season. Since being founded in 1948 up until the end of the 2011/2012 season the clubs previous home was at Hood Park also in Ashby de la Zouch. The club currently consists of four adult teams and a youth team. The first team play in the East Midlands Counties League, with the Reserves in the Leicestershire Senior League Premier Division. In the 2008/2009 season the club formed a Youth Team (Under 18’s) side who play in the Leicestershire Midweek Floodlit Youth League on Wednesday nights. A Sunday team was re-introduced for the 2012/2013 season and they play in the Burton Sunday League Division Three. For 2015/2016 a third Saturday side has been formed who will play in the North Leicestershire Football League Division One. The club also has 11 junior sides ranging from Under 9’s through to Under 17’s who play in the Burton Junior Football League, Tamworth Junior Football League and the Derby City League. The junior section came after the club merged with the David Hunt Soccer School at the beginning of the 2009-2010 season. In February 2004, Ashby Ivanhoe became an FA Charter Standard football club. The club is very ambitious and has plans to progress further up the league pyramid system. The club is run by an experienced management team and enjoys the support of some very prestigious commercial partners. Ashby Ivanhoe had one of their most successful seasons in 2010/11 as they completed a league and cup double by winning the Leicestershire Senior League by nine points and also lifted the Coalville Charity Cup for the very first time after producing a superb second half comeback to beat Bardon Hill 3-2 in the final. They have also reached successive Leicestershire Senior Cup finals in 2011/2012 and 2012/2013 but had to settle for runners-up on both occasions losing 3-1, firstly to Ibstock United and then Aylestone Park. The 2013/2014 season saw the first team achieve a long-term ambition as they won promotion into the Step 6 East Midlands Counties League for the 2014/2015 season after finishing third place in the Leicestershire Senior League. It was a close title race with the top three all finishing level on points with Ashby third on goal difference. The Reserves were also promoted to the Leicestershire Senior League Division One. 2014/2015 saw Ashby compete at Step 6 of the non-league pyramid for the first time and they had a very good season and secured a top six finish in the East Midlands Counties League which featured victories against all of the sides above them. The Reserve side were involved in a tight title race and it went down to a last day decider against Lutterworth Athletic Reserves but despite the result going against them on the day they were still promoted for the second season in succession and will play at Step 7 in the Leicestershire Senior League Premier Division for 2015/2016.
