I hope that Santa brought everything you wished for and that you all had an enjoyable Christmas with friends and family. At half time today we will be having our Chairmans Christmas Crossbar Challenge. The Challenge is open to adults and children and costs just £2 per go for adults and £1 per go for under 16’s with all proceeds going to the clubs development fund. To enter simply give your name into the Media Centre and be available at Half Time to take part. If you manage to hit the crossbar then you receive a £10 drinks token for adults and a £5 drinks token for under 16’s. As I look forward into 2015 I am excited at the prospect of continuing to move the football club forward off the field. Whilst we have achieved so much in the short period we have been at Lower Packington Road, it remains my belief that we can be a “club of choice” in many ways in the years ahead. The focus remains to drive the football club forward in a professional and sustainable manner and I am confident that we can achieve this with the support we currently receive from volunteers, spectators, coaches, commercial partners and players. During the early months of 2015 keep your eyes on the various social media sites and the website for more information of how we aim to make Ashby Ivanhoe FC the club of choice and if you would like to “get involved” then please drop me an email at info@ashbyivanhoefc.com as we can never have enough people who all want the same for the football club. I have been asked over the last few weeks as to whether we will be applying for promotion to Step 5 and the answer is yes we have applied and all that remains is to keep focussed on winning football matches and whilst I have no direct influence on that I am sure that we can all play our part in continuing with the fantastic support that the team receives as I know it really does act as a 12th man. All that remains is to wish you all a Happy New Year and hope that you enjoy the game. Stuart Bonser Club Chairman

FIRST TEAM UPDATE I would like to give a warm welcome to the officials and players of Gedling Miners Welfare FC. Although the away fixture was favourable to our visitors today, winning 2-1, some people may think I’m mad suggesting that our performance during that game was our best of the season to date. Many supporters would suggest that the Bardon Hill game away, or the St Andrews game at home, or even our 7-0 thumping of Holwell away was our best team performance. However, I truly believe our performance that day, against Gedling, edged the others mentioned. However, on that day and games thereafter, individual errors have proved costly for Ashby, in fact it’s been the story of our season. This current squad has major issues with talking to each other, general organisation skills and the effects of this means that at times we look extremely disorganised and disjointed which inevitably ends up with the opposition scoring. Our disorganisation happens in games where it is a tight game and where it looks like the game may fizzle out to be a draw. We have given away points or lost all 3 collectively in 50% of our games; “this needs to be addressed” and my management team and I are doing everything possible to address it and develop a well-organised structured Ashby Ivanhoe team.

Tony Hemmings Sponsored by

Addressing the above is one issue; however, addressing the general attitude of our players is another. We had an exceptional October: we worked hard to gain the advantage, and the players mainly listened to instruction given which enabled the team to win 3 points. However, the problem with having a good run of form is that the players begin to believe their own hype; they stop listening because they think they know more. One of the culprits, who had a negative effect on the players and the squad, has now signed for Ellistown. Players also started looking at the league table and the talk of winning the league is in everyone’s conversation; psychologically we have all lost our focus, which needs to be amended. It’s also frustrating when you see all the clubs around you, who are paying a wage or expenses to players, who are able to address their weakness by attracting players with money and we’ve been trying to address ours all season. It seems as though I’m miles away from developing Ashby into a formidable force. However, my management team and I are fighters and we will continue to work hard to achieve our main aim. I hope you all enjoy today’s game. Anthony Hemmings First Team Manager

MATCH REPORT VS BARROW TOWN ASHBY IVANHOE 0 BARROW TOWN 3 Coleman 41, Davies 43,48 East Midlands Counties Football League Saturday 6th December 2014 Ashby Ivanhoe lost ground on the leaders in the East Midlands Counties League as visitors Barrow Town inflicted a second defeat inside a week for the home side with a comfortable victory with the three goals being scored in an eight minute spell either side of the interval. Ashby were looking to bounce back from their first defeat in five league matches after a 2-0 reverse at Blaby & Whetstone Athletic in midweek but it was the visitors who had the first chance at goal with barely a minute on the clock when an attempted clearance from the Ivanhoe defence was miskicked which left the attacker behind the defence but Chris Hodge saved well to tip the shot away from goal. The visitors were also making defensive errors early on which left Ashby with their first chance at goal on ten minutes when Dan Sharp side-stepped the ball past a defender before blazing the shot over the bar. Barrow were the better side in the first half but it took until four minutes before the half time interval for them to break the deadlock when the ball took a deflection off an Ivanhoe defender which was quickly pounced upon by David Coleman to strike the ball into the bottom corner. The lead was quickly doubled just two minutes later when a ball into the area saw another attempted clearance miskicked and Chris Davies capitalised to collect the loose ball to the right of goal before powering home the shot which beat Hodge at his near post and send the visitors in at the break with a two goal advantage. Ashby were now hoping they could reproduce the comeback from two goals down which defeated St Andrews three weeks earlier but any hopes were quickly ended as Barrow added their third goal on 49 minutes when Davies scored his second when after a run down the left he cut inside before being left with time and space to fire the shot into the bottom corner from 20 yards. Barrow had two chances in quick succession around the hour mark to increase their lead further but the first chance struck the outside of the post before the second produced a fine save from Hodge. The final half hour of the match was more evenly contested but Ashby never really troubled the Barrow keeper and it was the visitors who could have increased their lead in the final minutes but another good save from Hodge kept the scoreline at 3-0 which saw Ashby drop down to fifth place after the remaining sides in the top 5 all picked up victories.

UNDER 18S UPDATE Well it's been an interesting couple of weeks for the youth team. We lost our first game of the season in the County Cup Quarter Final against Oadby Town although I think that the spectators present at the NFU that night would agree that the sending off 20 minutes into the game denied all of a cracking tie. Even with 10 men we kept on level terms until we were caught on the break. We returned to winning ways a couple of weeks ago with a convincing 8-1 win away at GNG with the inform James Grice scoring two cracking 30 yard strikes and after the two week break over Christmas and New Year we will be back in action on Wednesday 7th January with an away match at Anstey Nomads Youth. We are currently top of the league so let's hope that we can carry on at what we've started in the New Year!! An extra plus over the past few weeks has seen reserve team debuts for Jamie Fitzgerald and Harry Pemberton which shows the conveyor belt is working. Wishing you all a Merry Christmas & Happy New Year. Wishing Tony and the boys all the best for today’s game. Alex Roome Under 18s Manager

DOWN MEMORY LANE WITH MOG Good afternoon, I am writing these notes before our trip to Borrowash Victoria so hopefully we will have got back to winning ways ahead of today’s game. Not having travelled to Radford, I took in the Reserves game against Anstey Town which they won very impressively 6-0. Mike Ellis loves a hat trick even more than he loves a “tweet” shame he’s more prolific at the latter! It was tremendous to see so many young players in the Reserve ranks and that is a great tribute to the hard work of our youth coaches and specifically Alex Roome & his Under 18’s. I watched their cup game against Oadby and thought we played some good stuff and if we had maintained 11 players on the pitch we could possibly have nicked it. The Ivanhoe All Time XI is now on display in the bar and you have the opportunity to create your own XI underneath which some have done already. The banter has been flowing on themed XI’s too and suggestions such as “hardmen”, “bad hairstyles” & “smokers” have begun to be selected. Feel free to think up your own theme & post it on the board. Well all that remains is for me to wish you all the compliments of the season and wish Tony & the boys the best of luck for a win today. Enjoy the game. Dave Morris Club President

ASHBY IVANHOE FC SUPPORTERS CLUB A warm welcome to everyone here today for Ivanhoe’s match against Gelding Miners Welfare here at the NFU Sports Ground. Sorry there were no reports in the last programme, apologies due to a defunct lap top but is now fixed. At the time of writing these notes we had just lost three matches on the trot and down to 6th position in the league and not a brilliant way to end the year but Christmas is almost gone and the new year upon us so let’s regroup, get back to winning ways and climb back up the table. Now to todays match against Gelding Miners Welfare who although in a lower league position beat us 2-1 on their patch back in August so let’s hope we play well enough to avenge that defeat and my forecast for this one is a 3-1 victory for the boys. All that’s left for me to do now is wish everyone involved with our football club a belated Happy Christmas and a very Happy New Year. Enjoy the party Don’t forget if you have any comments regarding the club please e-mail me at mh.buckley@btinternet.com Mick Buckley - Supporters Club Chairman

THE OPPOSITION GEDLING MINERS WELFARE The Club was formed in 1919, at the same time as the Notts Alliance Football league resumed playing football again after the First World War. In their first Season they finished 3rd in the League and won the League Cup by defeating local side Sneinton FC (now Carlton Town FC) 1-0. At the end of the 1929-30 Season the Club changed its name and became known as Mapperley St. Judes and enjoyed moderate success during this period. During the Second World War they reformed as Gedling Miners Welfare FC and with the restart of football for the 1945-46 Season they went on to win both the Notts Alliance League and Notts Alliance Senior Cup. This was repeated on numerous occasions and this success spilled over into the 1950s, which was the most successful period of the Club. We won the Notts Alliance League and Cup Double many times and at one point remained unbeaten for three Seasons. In the FA Amateur Cup they entertained two of the top sides of the time. Pegasus were the visitors to Plains Road in 1954 and temporary stands were erected all around the Ground to house a crowd of 7,000 plus. Two Seasons later Bishop Auckland visited and the Police put a limit of 10,000 on the Gate. We saw Gedling lose 4-1 to the best amateur team in the country, having missed a penalty at a crucial point in the game. The ‘Bishops’ had six amateur England Internationals on show and the most famous being Bob Hardisty who was the Captain of England. The staggering record attendance at Plains Road, will surely never again be surpassed by a Nottinghamshire amateur Club These were the good times at Plains Road and unfortunately, the Club has not had the same degree of success since then. The lowest point came at the end of the 1998-99 Season when we had been relegated to Division 2 of the Notts Alliance FL. Only three Committee Members remained with only half a kit, half a team and no money, but the next Season saw us bounce back and under the guidance of Vic Hulme, Gedling won the League, Intermediate Cup and were semi-finalists to Retford United in the Notts FA County Cup. At the end of Season 2001-02 Vic stepped aside as Manager and took up the post of Chairman of the Club. This left the way open for the appointment of Duncan Broad and Mark Allison as the management team for the start of the 2002-03 Season. They had the task of building a team to match the ambitions of the Club and this was achieved when at the end of the next Season we applied and were accepted into the Central Midlands Football League, we then gained promotion to the Supreme Division in our first season which was more than we had anticipated. The club spent five years in the Central Midlands Football League under the guidance of Duncan Broad and Mark Allison before they left the Club, to take up appointments with our near neighbours Gedling Town in May 2009. During that time the Ground has seen a remarkable transformation from virtually a ‘Parks Pitch’ to what is now probably the best amateur ground in the area. Since the floodlights, fencing and hard standing was installed, it has had a profound effect on the Club. We have recently staged Notts FA Cup Finals and various representative games, which speaks for its self. We are having seating on one side of the pitch and have plans to extend this to the road side of the ground. We feel that our facilities are starting to match those of local teams like Arnold Town and Carlton Town and as a result, Gedling were starting to put themselves on the map as one of the premier clubs in Nottingham and thus attracting a higher calibre of player into the fold. These facilities stood us in good stead when we applied and were accepted for the start of the 2008-09 season into the newly formed East Midland Counties Football League at Step 6 of the Pyramid System. This promotion has also enabled us to apply to play in the FA Cup. We played and lost away to Westfield FC of the MFA in our first attempt, but have great hopes of progressing further in the years to come. With Dunc and Ally leaving one Gedling club for another, it opened the door for the committee to appoint the respected Craig Maddison as manager in time for the start of the EMCL, where he was joined by ex- professional Calvin Plummer as his assistant. The pair finished their first season with a respectable league position of 8th, winning 15 of the 34 games available. Craig and Calvin had a further season at the helm before deciding to resign their position at the end of the 200910 campaign with a better finish of 7th.

THE OPPOSITION Graham Walker was appointed as manager in the June of 2010 and in his second year in charge took Gedling to a creditable fourth position finishing 4 points behind the champions. In a final game at Derbyshire club Gresley FC a 1-0 victory for the hosts in front of a record-breaking 625 crowd was enough to gain promotion to MFA for Gresley. Graham left the club at the end of the 2010-11 season to join up with Bret Marshall at Retford Town. The committee turned to 1st team coach Lee Boulton to take the managerial reigns who in turn appointed Kuki Morley as his Assistant and Steve Towle as coach. After several difficult results and early exits from the FA Cup and Vase by mutual consent Lee and Kuki stepped down as managers. Committee acted quickly to appoint ex Arnold Town Manager Andy Muldoon as our next manager for the remainder of the 2011-12 season. Andy managed to keep the services of Steve Towle as coach and also brought in the ex Forest duo Bryn Gunn and Calvin Plummer of the Brian Clough era, to assist him. By the end of May 2012 Andy has steadied the ship and the club finished with a respectable points total of 38 and a final league position of 13th. This was enough to persuade Andy and his team to stay for another season, with some new players brought in and a good pre-season behind them optimism was high for the start of the 2012-13 campaign. unfortunately this expectation didn’t really manifest into results so with very little progress being made, Andy felt it was an opportune time to make way for someone else for the start of the 2013-14 Season. The ‘someone else’ who the Committee appointed is Jonathon (Trigger) Simpson who has spent his previous three years managing Southwell City in the CMFL. Prior to that Trigger had played for Radcliffe Olympic and Gedling under Duncan Broad, So he knows the Club well and just the type of young manager the club were looking to appoint, we were delighted when he accepted our offer of management. The first season for Jonathon and his assistant Mark Foster was really one of transition, both for the club and them as managers, but sound solid decisions being made as the season progressed, with the team finishing a reasonable 12th with 42 points. This is something Jonathon is keen to build on for the 2014-15 Season and the prize of an FA Cup place being the main target. So we are all looking forward to a successful campaign this season, and a squad capable of competing at this level, the training sessions have never been so well attended, we can all see progress is being made, and we are confident that Trigger and his team will deliver. They will be backed up by the Committee and everyone at the Club to produce a team that we can all be proud of.

ASHBY IVANHOE FC CLUB HISTORY Ashby Ivanhoe Football Club was founded in 1948 and play their home matches at the NFU Sports Ground, Lower Packington Road, Ashby de la Zouch in Leicestershire. This is the clubs new home from the beginning of the 2012/2013 season. Since being founded in 1948 up until the end of the 2011/2012 season the clubs previous home was at Hood Park also in Ashby de la Zouch. The club currently consists of three adult teams and a youth team. The first team play in the East Midlands Counties League, with the Reserves in the Leicestershire Senior League Division One. In the 2008/2009 season the club formed a Youth Team (Under 18’s) side who play in the Leicestershire Midweek Floodlit Youth League on Wednesday nights. A Sunday team was re-introduced for the 2012/2013 season and they play in the Burton Sunday League Division Two. The club also has 11 junior sides ranging from Under 9’s through to Under 17’s who play in the Burton Junior Football League, Tamworth Junior Football League and the Derby City League. The junior section came after the club merged with the David Hunt Soccer School at the beginning of the 20092010 season. In February 2004, Ashby Ivanhoe became an FA Charter Standard football club. The club is very ambitious and has plans to progress further up the league pyramid system. The club is run by an experienced management team and enjoys the support of some very prestigious commercial partners. Ashby Ivanhoe had one of their most successful seasons in 2010/11 as they completed a league and cup double by winning the Leicestershire Senior League by nine points and also lifted the Coalville Charity Cup for the very first time after producing a superb second half comeback to beat Bardon Hill 3-2 in the final. They have also reached successive Leicestershire Senior Cup finals in 2011/2012 and 2012/2013 but had to settle for runners-up on both occasions losing 3-1, firstly to Ibstock United and then Aylestone Park. The 2013/2014 season saw the first team achieve a long-term ambition as they won promotion into the Step 6 East Midlands Counties League for the 2014/2015 season after finishing third place in the Leicestershire Senior League. It was a close title race with the top three all finishing level on points with Ashby third on goal difference. The Reserves were also promoted to the Leicestershire Senior League Division One.
