The club makes history again: Last Monday evening witnessed the football club feature on the Inside Out show on BBC 1 as part of a documentary into head injuries and concussion. This documentary was part of the fight by the Astle family for Justice for Jeff and we were invited to be part of the documentary and I must say that the coverage we received was fantastic. If you did not manage to catch the programme then I hope to have the programme link on the website soon so check it out as it not only gives great coverage of the club but covers a far more valuable message. The Club Of Choice: I mentioned a few weeks ago that I was revising the vision and direction of the club in a view to become the “club of choice” for footballers in and around Ashby de la Zouch. The purpose behind the vision is to have a clear pathway from Juniors to Seniors that develops players, age appropriately and encourages them to play at the highest level possible for the club or higher if they choose. The key areas that we are going to be working on will start next season and will feature: • Age appropriate Coaching – giving players fun, progressive and age appropriate coaching sessions • Coaching plans and support for our coaches – the provision of written lesson plans that get the best out of our coaches in each age group • Player assessments and player appraisals – measuring where a player started and how far they have developed is key to the players continued involvement • Seemless integration from Junior football to youth football and onto Senior football – providing a clear pathway for players to see and want to be part of The evidence of the work we are doing already to progress players to play at the highest level they can at the club was again seen last Saturday at Aylestone Park when Josh Riley came on as a 2nd half sub to make his debut and he can be proud of his first appearance in a senior shirt. The week prior, George Clamp, also made his debut and I am sure many more will feature in the coming months as games come in thick and fast for the club. All that remains is to hope we all have an enjoyable afternoon of football and thank you for your support. Stuart Bonser Club Chairman

FIRST TEAM UPDATE I would like to welcome the players and club officials of Graham Street Prims FC. The previous encounter was a tightly fought game, but thankfully we took all 3 points. I don’t envisage this encounter to be any different to the first. At present, the squad is very confident and there’s a great togetherness with the players: they are listening to instructions and clearly carrying them out to the letter, which enables them to simplify their game and win football matches. Reflecting on the previous four games it’s been a productive February in terms of the players getting back on track with winning football matches. The game against Blaby at home was an excellent team performance from start to finish. We have now found a group of players that compliment each other and are playing well together. I also thought - when we had a man sent off - we weren’t in any danger of losing the match. In fact with 10 players we took the lead. The away fixture at Barrow wasn’t as difficult as I thought it would have been. Once again we dominated the game from start to finish and it was the first time this season I was able to pick the same 11 players, which I believe was the key to winning 4-1. At the away fixture at Aylestone Park FC, we were missing 2 of our key players because during the game against Blaby we had 2 players sent off and these players were serving their suspension, which affected the squad selection. The first half proved to be a difficult encounter as we were playing against the wind, equally, as a squad they were playing as individuals rather than a team. However, we regrouped at half time and dealt with a number of issues that happened in the first period. Absolute credit must go to this group of players; they delivered an outstanding second half performance - scoring 6 goals. The bonus of the day was Josh Riley who made his first team debut at 16 years of age and he was outstanding creating 2 goals and came close to scoring 2 goals himself. I think today’s game will be an exciting game. Please get behind the team. Anthony Hemmings First Team Manager

MATCH REPORT VS BLABY & WHETSONE ATHLETIC ASHBY IVANHOE 1 Saunders 81 BLABY & WHETSTONE ATHLETIC 0 East Midlands Counties Football League Saturday 7th February 2015 Ashby Ivanhoe edged out league leaders Blaby & Whetstone Athletic in an eventful game at the NFU Sports Ground. Chris Saunders came off the bench to head home the winner nine minutes from time before three late sendings off to add to an earlier red card for Ashby saw both teams finish with nine men. Ashby made the better start to the match and inside the opening ten minutes they had a couple of chances when firstly a ball over the top of the Blaby defence saw Callum McBride chase the ball with just the keeper to beat but the Blaby stopper was first to the ball and shortly after a the ball fell to McBride on the edge of the area following a corner and his shot forced the keeper into making a save.
On 27 minutes Ashby were awarded a free kick close to the right touchline after a poor challenge on Scott Cordy and the free kick was curled into the area and was heading inside the near post before the ball was cleared behind and seconds later another ball into the area, this time from the left, found McBride and with his back to goal he managed to get a shot away which was just wide. The Blaby defence was finding it difficult to stop McBride and he was in on goal again on the half hour mark when another ball over the defence left him with just the keeper to beat but the shot wasn’t struck cleanly and the ball went wide of the target and it remained goalless at the break. 8

MATCH REPORT VS BLABY & WHETSONE ATHLETIC The second half saw Ashby continue to play the better football with the majority of the play in the midfield but the match was stop start with a lot of needless fouls committed and midway through the half the first red card was produced for Ashby’s James Purslow.
The match winning moment came nine minutes from time when a Luke Thorogood effort was well saved by the Blaby keeper and from the resulting corner the ball was played into the area and the ball was flicked on and substitute Chris Saunders made no mistake to power home a header and put the ten men in front. With the league leaders now behind the match started to boil over and with three minutes remaining Ashby were reduced to nine men with McCauley Holmes being dismissed. Minutes later Blaby received their first red card after another off the ball incident and with a large amount of stoppage time to be played the visitors were also reduced to nine men after a bad tackle close to the touchline left the referee with no choice but to show the red card and Ashby managed to see the remaining minutes out for a thoroughly deserved victory.

RESERVE TEAM UPDATE ASHBY IVANHOE RESERVES 5
Avins 33(p), Pollard 39, Gibson 52, Bott 63, Horn 89
LUTTERWORTH TOWN 2
Anthony 8, 31 Leicestershire Senior League Division One Saturday 14th February 2015 Ashby Ivanhoe Reserves recovered from 2-0 down after 30 minutes to defeat title rivals Lutterworth Town 5-2 with goals from Rob Avins, Ben Pollard, Phil Gibson, Elliott Bott and Kerr Horn and increase their lead at the top of the Leicestershire Senior League First Division to four points. Only one point separated the sides at the start of play so it was a crucial top of the table clash and it was the visitors who began the match the better side and they took an early lead after just eight minutes when an initial shot was blocked and when the ball fell to Macauley Anthony the Lutterworth striker sent a shot at goal which keeper John Noon got down well to get a hand to the ball but he couldn’t stop the ball from finding the net just inside the post. The next 20 minutes of the match was played at a pedestrian pace with little in the way of chances until Lutterworth doubled their advantage just after the half hour mark. The goal came when a low through ball caught out the Ivanhoe defence and left two Lutterworth players in on goal and it was Anthony who went alone to fire a shot beyond Noon for his second of the match. Ashby needed a quick response if they were to get back into the match and just two minutes later they were given the opportunity after Elliott Bott was brought down inside the area and upstepped Rob Avins to send the keeper the wrong way and make it 2-1. The goal gave Ashby a lift and six minutes before half time they levelled the scores when a low shot from Ben Pollard from outside the area beat the dive of the keeper and found the net off the inside of the post and the teams went in at the break all square at 2-2. After the break Ashby continued how they had finished the first and played some good football in difficult conditions as the rain poured down and on 52 minutes they took the lead for the first time in the match when Bott sent the ball into the area from the right and Phil Gibson beat the defender to the ball to force a shot home at the near post. Ashby had a chance to increase their lead three minutes later when a header from Dan Stevenson was cleared off the line before Ashby did add a fourth goal just after the hour mark with a fine goal from Bott when he beat a couple of defenders inside the area before bringing the ball down and finishing well with a powerful shot to the right of the keeper. The chances continued to fall for Ashby and inside the final ten minutes they should have scored again but for a fine save from the Lutterworth keeper who denied substitute Kerr Horn by turning his deflected shot behind at the near post but with a minute remaining the final goal was scored and Horn wasn’t to be denied this time as he received the ball from a cross into the area and his shot beat the keeper at the near post to complete a fine comeback.

Leicestershire Midweek Floodlit Youth League Wednesday 4th February 2015 The Youth team returned to action after two months without a match and were just seconds away from a first league defeat of the season until Angus Blair Park scored a stoppage time equaliser. James Fitzgerald had given Ashby an early lead and Elliott Beldon scored a second after Birstall had levelled. The second half saw Birstall turn the game around with two goals in the final 15 minutes before Blair-Park's last gasp goal.

DOWN MEMORY LANE WITH MOG Good afternoon and it’s great to be back at The NFU this afternoon after two successful away trips to old Senior League rivals Barrow and Aylestone, let’s hope the weather is ok and we have a game to watch. Talking of weather, my son has just started playing (again hurrah, he’ll hate that) for the Sunday team and I have had a few er enjoyable Sunday mornings freezing on the touchline over the last few weeks. It’s been a few years since I watched Burton and District Sunday League games and in some cases nothing seems to have changed, 20 years on and Edge Hill are still top and Moira United are still bottom, but what I couldn’t believe is that there are only now 5 leagues! Back in the 80’s when I started playing I remember being told that Burton & District Sunday League was the largest in the country with a 9 league set up, and Ashby Ivanhoe flitted between the Premier & Division One as I recall. So why is that? Well apart from the general laziness of the youth of today (“oh shut up you old fart”) many of whom would rather spend hours gazing into their PS4/iphone/tablet/MP3 player (yes I am looking through a Curry’s manual) than having to actually put their own posts up, travel to the back of beyond, run around for 90 minutes on a ploughed field but guess what have a great laugh doing it. I also believe that the licensing laws worked in our favour in those days too. There were no Ashby nightclubs to keep you out until 3am, the pubs shut at 11pm & god knows they didn’t open until 7. So even the most committed slurper couldn’t be in too much of a state to not get up on a Sunday morning. Indeed at many of the grounds we used to get changed in pubs themselves Joiner’s Arms, Woodville, Builders Arms, Linton away etc etc. Anyway, that’s another rant over & I know that Stuart and the club’s management are fully committed to improving our Sunday offering so I look forward to more Sunday touchline action in the future. Back to Saturday’s and we are playing some exceptional football at the moment which is a pleasure to watch. Congratulations to Tony and all the team, let’s get another 3 points today and see how far we can push the leaders in the closing weeks of the season. Enjoy the game. Dave Morris Club President
ASHBY IVANHOE FC SUPPORTERS CLUB A warm welcome to everyone here today for Ivanhoe’s East Midland Counties match against Graham Street Prims here at the NFU Sports Ground. Since our last home match, a 1-0 victory against Blaby & Whetstone Athletic, we have won two away matches, a great 4-1 win at Barrow and a comfortable 6-0 rout at Aylestone Park and nice to see Callum McBride slotting into the strikers role and scoring some great goals including a hat trick at Aylestone Park. So to today’s match against Graham Street Prims who are currently 4th from bottom of the league and after winning 1-0 at their ground I expect an Ivanhoe win and my prediction today is a 3-1 win. The Reserves are away today at FC Khalsa and a win today would see them maintain their top of the table position, well done lads. Good luck to all our teams this weekend and don’t forget if have any comments regarding the club please e-mail me at mh.buckley@btinternet.com Mick Buckley - Supporters Club Chairman AIFC vs Graham Street Prims| Saturday 28th February 2015 | www.ashbyivanhoefc.com

THE OPPOSITION GRAHAM STREET PRIMS Graham Street Prims were originally founded in 1904, being formed from a primitive Methodist Church from which they derived the name “Prims”. Graham Street itself is actually situated off Osmaston Road in the city of Derby and is close to the Baseball Ground, former home of Derby County until they moved to their new home at Pride Park. Prims were disbanded in 1914 due to the outbreak of the first world war but in the ten year period until that time they boasted several players who went on to play league football, these included the Keetley brothers and Jimmy Bagshaw who eventually went on to play for Notts County and England. Prims were reformed in 1953 and achieved many honours, mainly in the Central Alliance, The East Midlands League and the Derbyshire Senior League. The finest years came between 1971 and 1981 when they won no less than fifteen major honours including seven Derbyshire FA Cup wins and eight League titles. In 1991 Prims were again disbanded due to not having a suitable ground of the required league standard but in 1995 were reformed through a merger with Derby Carriage & Wagon FC. Since reforming, they have been semi-finalists in the Derbyshire Senior Cup, beating Matlock Town on the way and losing to Belper Town 2-0 in the semi final. They gained promotion from the Premier Division of the Central Midlands League to the Supreme Division, finishing fifth in their first season in the higher division. After suffering four years of continual vandalism at the Railway Ground in Longbridge Lane, Derby and having been relegated for not having floodlights, the club was on the verge of folding once more. But a determined committee met with officials from Borrowash Victoria FC at the Asterdale Sports and Social Club in Spondon and owners of the land, The Heritage Pub Company as a result, a pitch and the promise of a lease was offered. Prims committee met with Officials from the Central Midlands League, led by Mr Frank Harwood, they gave the go-ahead to our new home and work soon started on the ground. New post & rail was erected and new pitch drainage was installed. Re-seeding and verti draining of the pitch has also took place as well as a complete conversion of the old “Band Hut” into a dressing room complex and hospitality suite. Installation of a 2 metre high fence around the perimeter of the pitch with floodlights installed and the siting of a portacabin to provide refreshments for spectators as well as separate toilets also being completed. Raising the money for this operation, which has taken place over a number of years was a mammoth task with fund raising, loans and grants being obtained, this resulted in the club paying out around £90-100K. In 2008 the Asterdale club closed, this brought about a spate of vandalism, which cost Prims a great deal of time and money which they could ill afford, repairing roof’s, replacing glass and removing graffiti etc. Eventually new buyers for the sight were found. The new owners, ROSCOM decided they would knock down the old club to build an office block and also promised new facilities for Prims, this is still the aim but an agreement between Roscom and the City Council over the planning application has still to be agreed. The new owner has assured us that they are very keen to keep sport going at the ground and after meeting with them our future looks bright, meanwhile negotiations for a long term lease are ongoing.

THE OPPOSITION On the playing side season 2008-2009 saw a new league formed for the East Midlands at step six in the FA Pyramid system, teams primarily from the Central Midlands League, Leicester Senior League and the Notts Alliance was formed with Prims among the teams competing as founder members. We were also joined by our near neighbours, Borrowash Victoria, who left the Northern Counties (East) League to join the East Midlands Counties, ensuring two excellent local derbies in prospect. Our Reserves were placed in the new Central Midlands Supreme Reserve League with our under 18’s side competing in the Derby City League. Wayne Harvey Toon remains as Club Chairman and Ray Garlick has agreed to sponsor maintenance of the ground for three years, resulting in our ground being known as the RAYGAR ARENA. Since the highly successful seasons of the 70’s and 80’s progress has been somewhat steady, to say the least, this has been mainly due to us competing with other local sides who are in a position to offer incentives to players, where we are clearly in no position to offer any form of payment. This inability to attract players seeking some form of remuneration caused Prims another problem with managers, resulting in us having EIGHT managers over a period of eighteen years. Most of the managers over this period had played for Prims at some time and like the rest of the Managers, found difficulty recruiting good quality players. In 2009 Prims appointed Mick Rodgers (who had been very successful with Vics), however he too suffered from the same problem as previous managers and resigned half way through the season. Prims committee were again forced to advertise in the local press and through various local league websites and after interviewing three candidates, Mark Webster was appointed in December 2009 with the task of keeping Prims in the EMCL. Mark had been very successful with Holbrook MW (now Holbrook Sports), another of Prims local rivals, bringing a wealth of experience he set about his task of bringing some stability to the club. He brought with him Mick Bentley (who had been with Prims previously) and was joined by Tony Collins and Mark Harris who brought their own young Chellaston team to form the nucleus of the Reserves. Because of Prims inability to pay players Mark’s aim was to concentrate mainly on youth. In the 2011-2012 season Ian McAndrew joined Prims from Mickleover Sports as Mark’s assistant. Mark demanded loyalty from everyone at the club including the committee and last season saw his efforts bear fruit with the 1st team reaching the final of the league cup and finishing eighth in the league. The reserves reaching the semi-final of the DFA Divisional Cup and finishing fifth in their league and the Youth team finishing runners-up in the Derby City Under 18 League. The club now enjoys a welcome return to the days of the “Community Spirit” which must go down to the discipline Mark has instilled in his players. He has not been frightened to bring young players into the first team, and has brought about a very optimistic future for the club. The 2013-2014 season sees a new club structure launched and designed by Tony Collins to bring a more professional look to the committee and throughout the club. With everyone pulling in the right direction and if we can get the dressing room plans sorted the outlook for the club is very bright indeed. This season Prims will be competing in the FA Cup for the first time in their history as well as the FA Vase.

ASHBY IVANHOE FC CLUB HISTORY Ashby Ivanhoe Football Club was founded in 1948 and play their home matches at the NFU Sports Ground, Lower Packington Road, Ashby de la Zouch in Leicestershire. This is the clubs new home from the beginning of the 2012/2013 season. Since being founded in 1948 up until the end of the 2011/2012 season the clubs previous home was at Hood Park also in Ashby de la Zouch. The club currently consists of three adult teams and a youth team. The first team play in the East Midlands Counties League, with the Reserves in the Leicestershire Senior League Division One. In the 2008/2009 season the club formed a Youth Team (Under 18’s) side who play in the Leicestershire Midweek Floodlit Youth League on Wednesday nights. A Sunday team was re-introduced for the 2012/2013 season and they play in the Burton Sunday League Division Two. The club also has 11 junior sides ranging from Under 9’s through to Under 17’s who play in the Burton Junior Football League, Tamworth Junior Football League and the Derby City League. The junior section came after the club merged with the David Hunt Soccer School at the beginning of the 20092010 season. In February 2004, Ashby Ivanhoe became an FA Charter Standard football club. The club is very ambitious and has plans to progress further up the league pyramid system. The club is run by an experienced management team and enjoys the support of some very prestigious commercial partners. Ashby Ivanhoe had one of their most successful seasons in 2010/11 as they completed a league and cup double by winning the Leicestershire Senior League by nine points and also lifted the Coalville Charity Cup for the very first time after producing a superb second half comeback to beat Bardon Hill 3-2 in the final. They have also reached successive Leicestershire Senior Cup finals in 2011/2012 and 2012/2013 but had to settle for runners-up on both occasions losing 3-1, firstly to Ibstock United and then Aylestone Park. The 2013/2014 season saw the first team achieve a long-term ambition as they won promotion into the Step 6 East Midlands Counties League for the 2014/2015 season after finishing third place in the Leicestershire Senior League. It was a close title race with the top three all finishing level on points with Ashby third on goal difference. The Reserves were also promoted to the Leicestershire Senior League Division One.
