A DEVOTED SUPPORTER SADLY PASSES AWAY Ashby Ivanhoe FC are sad to report the passing of one its most devoted and loyal supporters, Graham Gough who sadly passed away on Friday 13th January. Ashby Ivanhoe FC Chairman, Stuart Bonser commented “Graham was one of our most loyal and devoted supporters and followed the club with real interest across its Under 18’s, Reserves and First team. I have personally known Graham and his family for many years as he was a neighbour of my parents on Willowbrook Close and I know he loved his football and that love grew with Ashby Ivanhoe FC when we introduced the Midweek Floodlit Under 18’s team as Graham really enjoyed watching the young and upcoming talent playing for the club. As part of the new Under 18’s we had to erect floodlights and power them via a generator and Graham was often seen over the winter months hugging the container where the generator was housed to keep himself warm. I have many funny stories about Graham but he would always stop and ask me about the club and the plans we had and since we moved to the new ground he rarely missed a game and always showed keen interest in our progress both on and off the field. I have very fond memories of Graham and he will be sadly missed by all who knew him at the club and who stood with him on the sidelines and we will be marking our respect for Graham at the next 3 games involving the first team, reserves and Under 18’s as I believe this is the perfect way to give thanks to Graham who supported all 3 teams. The Club will also be erecting a special plaque in recognition of Graham at the ground and further news on this will follow. The funeral will be taking place on Tuesday 7th February at Holy Trinity Church on Kilwardby Street at 11:45am and if you would like to come along to pay your respects then I am sure Graham would have loved that. On behalf of the Club I would like to finish by saying, “Graham, you will be sadly missed and our thoughts are with your family and friends at this time” Stuart Bonser – Club Chairman 4

CHAIRMANS WELCOME Good afternoon and welcome to today’s match against our visitors Radcliffe Olympic FC and may I extend a warm welcome to the players, officials and spectators of Radcliffe Olympic FC and hope that we all enjoy a good match. As you may have already heard and seen in the programme we are sad to report the loss of one of the clubs most loyal supporters, Graham Gough and we will be holding a minutes silence ahead of today’s game in his memory and I ask that you all observe this. I travelled to newly promoted and top of the league West Bridgford 2 weeks ago to watch the team’s first defeat under Steve and Lee’s management and for those that were there it really could have gone either way and our boys had a good go but credit to West Bridgford as they played well and are a good side. The facilities they have there are great too and I am sure they will push on if it is there desire to do so. Last Saturday saw the team return to winning ways and maintain their drive to climb the table and hopefully that will carry on today. The reserve team travelled to Friar Lane 2 weeks ago and from reports they played extremely well and should have won the game. The game last Saturday against Blaby was a great game to watch too and ended up 4-4 and the lads are now growing in confidence and rightfully so as they are largely competing against clubs 1st teams in the Senior League Premier division so they should be proud of the way they are conducting themselves right now. Since the arrival of Steve and Lee we have seen the introduction of some really positive players who have added value to the team and the changing room which is important in any team sport. With the arrival of new players you also get some players at the club that choose to move on for a variety of reasons. The mandate for Steve and Lee was to galvanise the players and management at the club and get players to understand the role they play and that they are part of a club that does its very best to provide them with an experience like no other. The players at Ashby Ivanhoe don’t get paid to play and whilst other teams in this division do pay their players I remain confident that we can attract the right type of players who want to play for the club not for a pay packet which, in my opinion, is the only sustainable way to build a club and a team. That said I have always been up front about rewarding players for their efforts but this does not always have to be money. For example the seniors get to train at Champneys for their pre-season which is where the likes of England and Brazil have trained in the past before St Georges Park. The fantastic achievements in the FA CUP were down to the whole club pulling together and the players earning the club prize money along the way for which they were duly rewarded with beers and a FREE night out at Manhattans with a private booth, Champagne, shots and beers. The players are the reason why we all do what we do and their efforts never go un-noticed but they too should recognise the efforts that many volunteers put in week in week out to provide them with the platform to play football. However, I must go on record to say how football at the higher level has in some ways been a good thing but in many others it has conditioned some players at our level to think that football owes them a living or that everything should be free and that we should just keep wasting money to stroke their egos and one example is a player that has now gone to Shepshed Dynamo who thought that we should pay his fines and took to social media to state he was disappointed at the club for chasing him for fines despite the club earning money from the cup run. Well reality is this Mr Cawley, you got booked not the club, you pay your own fines not the club and as you didn’t pay your fines the club issued a suspension notice to the County FA which will stop you playing football until you do pay your fines, quite simple really. I am sure your boss at work would not pay your parking or speeding fines so why do you think a football club is any different? The statement about earning the club prize money is quite true but why should the club pay one players fines (over £60) and not give every player that played in the Cups the same amount of money that it would have given you? Why? Quite simply it is not sustainable and I for one am not saddened by your departure to another club as we do not need players like you at this club. All that remains is to wish the team well today and hope that we all enjoy a good afternoon of football. Stuart Bonser Club Chairman Ps – if you are visiting the ground by car please DO NOT OBSTRUCT the junction to Cambrian Way by parking on the grass/ path verge as this is both dangerous and you could get a fixed penalty notice from the Council and or Police.

FIRST TEAM UPDATE Managers Talk Good afternoon and welcome to the NFU Sports Ground for this afternoon’s league game against Radcliffe Olympic FC. We would like to welcome all those connected with Radcliffe and hope you have a safe journey home. After a disappointing defeat to West Bridgford, myself and Steve spoke to lads about the importance of bouncing back. Good teams have set backs and then respond in the right way – you can never win every game. We were delighted with the reaction we got from the boys. We had a couple of weeks of good training sessions with a game called off in between and we made sure we were right to go again at Arnold. The performance was one of the best we’ve seen so far. For the whole 90 minutes, we were on top and taking the game to Arnold. We played some superb football and to go in 2-0 up didn’t flatter us. We knew the next goal was important and Arnold got it from a set piece. It would have been easy for the lads to crumble at that stage as Arnold began to put us under pressure with long ball after long ball. But, we stood up tall, defended properly with aggression and looked dangerous every time we went forward, and finally got our rewards as we put the game to bed 3-1. I have told the team that our quality, plus the desire and team spirit they showed will take us in the right direction for sure. To all of you, your support has been great and we would like to say thank you – this really helps the lads. Enjoy the game. Steve Titterton & Lee Attenborough First Team Management

Ashby had opened up a 2-0 lead in the first half before Holbrook pulled one back just before the break. The second half saw Ashby extend their lead to 4-1 before two goal in the final fifteen minutes set up a close finish. The match started with Ashby on the front foot and within the first minute they had a chance at goal when an effort by Luke Edwards was deflected just wide of the far post and just a few minutes later a shot by Danny Quinn was turned over by the keeper. Ashby were rewarded for their early pressure with the opening goal in the 8th minute when the ball was passed inside the area for midfielder Danny Edwards to run onto and he sent his shot across goal finding the net off the inside of the far post. Ashby doubled their advantage midway through the first half through a well taken goal by Quinn. The ball found the striker inside the area and he chipped the ball over the onrushing goalkeeper for 2-0. Holbrook then started to get themselves back into the match and with ten minutes of the first half remaining their halved the deficit when a cross into the area found a player in the centre of the area and the shot found the bottom corner making the score 2-1 at half time. The start of the second half saw the visitors with an early chance to level the scores but a shot was blocked on the line by an Ivanhoe defender and then on 52 minutes Ashby restored their two goal advantage when Luke Thorogood went past a defender and from just inside the area to the right he sent the ball towards the penalty spot and after Quinn failed to get a shot away the ball fell to Josh Riley and he made no mistake to make it 3-1. Midway through the second half and Ashby increased their lead to 4-1 with the Holbrook keeper having a hand in the goal. The ball was crossed into the area and the keeper failed to gather the ball which ran loose to the feet of Quinn and he was left with a simple finish. The final fifteen minutes of the match belonged to Holbrook as they staged a late comeback. On 76 minutes they reduced the scoreline to 4-2 when a player unmarked on the left side struck a powerful shot which beat keeper Luke Hemingway at his near post. Then inside the final few minutes another chance from the left across goal went just the wrong side of the far post before they scored their third goal in the second minute of stoppage time when a thunderous shot found the roof of the net to set up a tense final couple of minutes. There was to be no more chances through with Ashby holding out for a 4-3 victory which moves them upto 12th in the table.

ASHBY IVANHOE FC SUPPORTERS CLUB THE OPPOSITION A very warm welcomeSTAPENHILL to everybody here at the NFU Sports Ground for this afternoon’s East Midlands Counties League fixture against Radcliffe Olympic. IN OPPOSITION TODAY RADCLIFFE OLYMPIC Radcliffe Olympic FC was founded in 1876, making it one of the oldest football clubs in Nottinghamshire, a forerunner for other clubs. During the early period the standard of players at the club was extremely high. One player who was to go on to play international football was Harry Butler Daft who played for the club in the early 1890’s. Although long term history is hard to find when looking for club honours Olympic enjoyed early success as a club. In the 1900/01 season Olympic were the Notts Alliance Champions. The next period that we found Olympic success was the early 1930’s. In the 1929/30 season the club won the Notts Alliance Divisional 2 Cup. The 1931/32 season saw the club win both the Notts Alliance Division Two and the South Notts League. The 1940’s brought more silverware when in 1946/47 Olympic won both the Notts Realm League Division One and the Notts Realm League Division One Cup. In the 1947/48 season the Notts Realm League Division One Cup was retained. Olympic next had success in the mid to late 1960’s. In a six year period between the 1965/66 and 1970/71 seasons Olympic won three Midlands Amateur Alliance League titles, the Central Alliance Premier Division, the East Midlands Regional League Division One and the Midlands Amateur Alliance Senior Cup in the 1967/88 season. Throughout the 1990’s Radcliffe Olympic hit a purple patch winning the Notts Alliance Division One in 1990/91 and the Nottingham & District Spartan League Division One in 1991/92. As well as these two league Championships Olympic had cup success winning the Nottingham & District Spartan League Cup in 1990/91, the Midland Amateur Alliance Intermediate Cup 1996/97 and were runners up in the Notts FA Intermediate Cup in 1992/93 and in the Notts Alliance Intermediate Cup in 1996/97. As the Club entered its third century the success continued. In the 2001/02 season they won the Notts Alliance Division Three Championship and the Notts Intermediate Cup. In 2002/03 the First Team won the Notts Alliance Senior Division and the Notts Alliance Senior Cup. In the summer of 2003 Radcliffe Olympic amalgamated with local Club ASC Dayncourt to create one of the biggest clubs in Nottinghamshire with it retaining the famous Radcliffe Olympic name. The club created four sections the Seniors, Intermediates, Juniors and Ladies to provided equal opportunities for everyone to play football. The success continued in the 2003/04 season when the First Team were crowed Champions of the Central Midland League Premier Division. This was mirrored by the Reserve Team who won the Central Midlands League Reserve Division One. The 2004/05 season saw the First Team play in the Central Midlands League Supreme Division and the 2006/07 season saw the First Team make their debut in the FA Vase. The 2008/09 saw the First Team crowned Champions of the Central Midlands League Supreme Division.

IN OPPOSITION TODAY The 2009/10 season saw the First Team play in the East Midlands Counties Football League Premier Division. The 2010/11 season was a historic moment as the First Team made their debut in the FA Cup and played seven ties in five rounds before eventually being knocked out in the Third Round Qualifier. The 2011/12 season saw the First Team reach the East Midlands Counties League Cup Final. The 2013/14 season saw the Seniors First Team make it into the East Midlands Counties League Cup Semi Final. The 2014/15 season saw the First Team reach the East Midlands Counties League Cup Final. This season the management team of Steve Morris, Eddie Humphreys, Neil Yeomans, Matty Turner and Conor Moore have been busy bringing in new players to strengthen the squad as they look to improve on last season’s finish. The future of Radcliffe Olympic FC is looking bright. The club is at its strongest position in probably its entire history on and off the pitch.

In the 2008/2009 season the club formed a Youth Team (Under 18’s) side who play in the Leicestershire Midweek Floodlit Youth League on Wednesday nights. A Sunday team was re-introduced for the 2012/2013 season and they play in the Burton Sunday League Division Three. For 2015/2016 a third Saturday side has been formed who will play in the North Leicestershire Football League Division One. The club also has 11 junior sides ranging from Under 9’s through to Under 17’s who play in the Burton Junior Football League, Tamworth Junior Football League and the Derby City League. The junior section came after the club merged with the David Hunt Soccer School at the beginning of the 2009-2010 season. In February 2004, Ashby Ivanhoe became an FA Charter Standard football club. The club is very ambitious and has plans to progress further up the league pyramid system. The club is run by an experienced management team and enjoys the support of some very prestigious commercial partners. Ashby Ivanhoe had one of their most successful seasons in 2010/11 as they completed a league and cup double by winning the Leicestershire Senior League by nine points and also lifted the Coalville Charity Cup for the very first time after producing a superb second half comeback to beat Bardon Hill 3-2 in the final. They have also reached successive Leicestershire Senior Cup finals in 2011/2012 and 2012/2013 but had to settle for runners-up on both occasions losing 3-1, firstly to Ibstock United and then Aylestone Park. The 2013/2014 season saw the first team achieve a long-term ambition as they won promotion into the Step 6 East Midlands Counties League for the 2014/2015 season after finishing third place in the Leicestershire Senior League. It was a close title race with the top three all finishing level on points with Ashby third on goal difference. The Reserves were also promoted to the Leicestershire Senior League Division One. 2014/2015 saw Ashby compete at Step 6 of the non-league pyramid for the first time and they had a very good season and secured a top six finish in the East Midlands Counties League which featured victories against all of the sides above them. The Reserve side were involved in a tight title race and it went down to a last day decider against Lutterworth Athletic Reserves but despite the result going against them on the day they were still promoted for the second season in succession and will play at Step 7 in the Leicestershire Senior League Premier Division for 2015/2016.
