We also welcome some of our Sponsors to the game today and as you will have seen from around the ground the number keeps growing as more and more businesses are showing an interest in how we are developing the football club and that is credit to everyone involved both on and off the field. The first team played in the Challenge Cup for the very first time on Tuesday 17th November and it was a very pleasing performance and victory against Loughborough Dynamo, who are 2 steps higher. Putting the result to one side, the most pleasing element for me was the way that our Management Team, Players and the Club officials represented Ashby Ivanhoe FC and any neutral would have thought that we were the higher club as we behaved with complete professionalism all round (which cannot be said for the opposition). Keep your eyes peeled on the website over the next week as we will find out who face in the next round and hopefully a win in that round will take us a step further to walking out at the King Power Stadium in the Final. The Midweek Under 18’s play at home this coming Wednesday in the County Cup Semi Final against Harborough Town with a 7pm Kick Off. Be sure to come along and support the team and the future of the club. The pitch and training areas are beginning to show signs of entering the winter spell but with a lot of hard work and plenty of forking, we are doing our best to keep them in as good a condition as we can hope for. As I wrote these notes I received an email from the FA announcing their guidelines on Concussion, which can and has had fatal consequences. These guidelines provide clubs with information on how to respond and treat concussion which happens during a game. As some of you may be aware, the club is associated with the Jeff Astle Foundation and Jeff’s daughter and family have been working tirelessly to bring education to the forefront of head injuries and the impact it can ultimately have. Over the coming weeks I will be sharing with you what we, as a club will be working on to pass this information to all of our coaches and in particular how we approach our coaching sessions, following the announcement from the USA. I am a firm believer in prevention is better than cure and we are poised to play our part in highlighting the importance of constant education. All that remains is to thank you for your continued support and to wish our players well today and hope we all are in for a good game. Stuart Bonser Club Chairman Ps – if you are visiting the ground by car please DO NOT OBSTRUCT the junction to Cambrian Way by parking on the grass/path verge as this is both dangerous and you could get a fixed penalty notice from the Council and or Police.

FIRST TEAM UPDATE Good afternoon and welcome to the home of Ashby Ivanhoe FC. May I extend a very warm welcome on behalf of the Club to everyone attending today’s match and in particular the players, officials and supporters of our opponents Stapenhill. Our last league game against Gedling meant we reached the halfway mark in the fixture calendar which seems a little premature given we are still in November. As expected, Gedling provided us with a tricky fixture which wasn’t helped by our usual slow start, having Hodgey to thank for three great saves before we had even troubled the opposition’s goal. We were slowly working our way on top when we took the lead on 24 minutes and the penalty and sending off early after the restart ended any potential come back from Gedling. A little more composure in front of goal and we could have won by a much healthier margin. A third consecutive clean sheet in the league was he most pleasing aspect of the performance. Forty four points from a possible fifty four is a pleasing return but in reality seven of the ten points we have let slip could have been avoided. We have largely been masters of our own downfall in each game we have dropped points in although credit to South Normanton who deserved their victory. Last Tuesday we played Loughborough Dynamo in the Challenge Cup a team we had beaten in pre-season. Jo, Andy and myself were always confident we could get a positive result and that was compounded when we saw the lack of intensity in the opposition’s warm up. Having already turned them over once I think they showed us a complete lack of respect both on and off the pitch, the tanoy man at one point referring to us as Barrow Town. After chasing shadows for the opening stages, the players settled and we imposed our game on them. Once again our opponent’s indiscipline aided our task with two of their management sent from the technical area and two players getting their marching orders. Let’s hope the draw for the next round is kind to us! With respect to today’s game we fully expect the same close game as we got earlier on in the season. Stapenhill have won their last four games but hopefully we can push on from our last two performances and provide an entertaining display with the desired outcome. Without repeating myself again, to date results have been better than performances which will only take us so far but not ultimately to where we want to be. We are a work in progress and progress we will. Thank you for your support and enjoy the game. Regards Miles Warriner First Team Management Team

MATCH ACTION VS GEDLING MINERS WELFARE ASHBY IVANHOE 2-0 GEDLING MINERS WELFARE EAST MIDLANDS COUNTIES FOOTBALL LEAGUE SATURDAY 14TH NOVEMBER 2015
Ashby Ivanhoe recorded a third straight victory and clean sheet with a 2-0 win over midtable Gedling Miners Welfare in a match played in awful conditions. Ashby opened the scoring midway through the first half through Kerr Horn with the second coming ten minutes after the break from a penalty converted by Antonio Williams. It was always going to be a testing match for Ashby with the visitors on a good run of results, winning three of their last four matches, and the reverse fixture back in August ending in a goalless draw and it was Gedling who had the first chance of the game on nine minutes when a foul presented a chance from just outside the area but the free kick was well saved by Ashby keeper Chris Hodge. The opening goal of the match came midway through the first half when a low cross into the area from the right was blocked by a defender inside the area and the ball fell kindly to Kerr Horn who produced a fine finish from around 12 yards to put Ashby in front. Gedling came close to levelling the scores on the half hour mark when from long range an attempted lob at goal was dipping under the Ashby crossbar but Hodge produced a fine save to tip the ball over the bar and keep Ashby’s slender advantage intact at the half time break. At half time Ashby made a change as striker Danny Quinn picked up a knock and Antonio Williams was brought on as his replacement and just ten minutes into the second half he doubled Ashby’s lead from the penalty spot. The spot-kick was awarded following the Gedling goalkeeper bringing down Royce Turville and despite the keeper diving the right way Williams’ penalty was beyond the keeper’s reach. It then got a bit easier for Ashby has midway through the half the visitors were reduced to ten men and shortly after Ashby almost added a third goal when the ball was squared across the area from the right for substitute Luke Thorogood but his shot was saved by the keeper. The final minutes were played in another torrential downpour with Ashby seeing the game out with the result increasing their lead at the top by a further point to nine clear and after a midweek trip to Loughborough Dynamo in the first round of the Leicestershire Challenge Cup they face a top of the table clash away at St Andrews on Saturday. MATCH ACTION VS LOUGHBOROUGH DYNAMO LOUGHBOROUGH DYNAMO 2-3 ASHBY IVANHOE (AFTER EXTRA TIME) LEICESTERSHIRE CHALLENGE CUP 1ST ROUND TUESDAY 17TH NOVEMBER 2015 Scott Cordy came off the bench to score an extra time winner to send Ashby Ivanhoe through to the second round of the Leicestershire Challenge Cup after a 3-2 victory over Northern Premier League South side Loughborough Dynamo. Ashby had taken an early two goal lead through Dan Stevenson and Chris Waldrum before Loughborough staged a comeback to level at 2-2 before Cordy netted in the second period of extra time. The match was played on a superb playing surface with a strong wind making it crucial to keep the ball on the ground and this helped Ashby’s passing game and they opened the scoring with just ten minutes on the clock. A ball forward was brought under control by Luke Thorogood and after he was brought down on the edge of the area the referee allowed play to continue as the ball found Stevenson and he placed his shot across goal and beyond the keeper’s dive and into the bottom corner of the net. Ashby’s advantage was quickly doubled just three minutes later when a long ball out wide to Stevenson was brought down and after cross into the area found Antonio Williams he passed the ball back to Waldrum and from around 30 yards from goal he was given space by the Loughborough defenders and he took full advantage with a long range shot which left the keeper standing before finding the bottom corner. On 20 minutes the third goal of the game was scored and this time it was Loughborough who halved the deficit. The goal came after they were awarded a penalty and despite keeper Chris Hodge diving the right way the spot kick was too good and found the corner. Just a few minutes after Loughborough had got themselves back into the match they almost fell two goals behind for the second time when Ashby won the ball in midfield and when the ball fell to Thorogood his effort was just wide and Ashby remained 2-1 in front at half time. Ashby had the first chance of the second half just five minutes in when they were awarded a free kick just outside the area following a handball but the shot from Waldrum was just off target. Shortly afterwards the scores were level as Loughborough netted their second when a player made his way through the Ivanhoe defence unchallenged before the ball was slotted beyond the oncoming Hodge to make it 2-2. Midway through the second half and Loughborough were reduced to ten men following a foul on Waldrum which resulted in a second yellow card and from this point Ashby produced some fine attacking football as they look to grab a winner and inside the final few minutes of normal time they had two good chances. The first came when a through ball was chased down by Williams and after knocking the ball beyond the keeper the angle was too tight to have a shot at goal so he stopped the ball on the by-line before passing the ball back into the danger area to substitute Angus Blair-Park and his shot produced a fine save from the Loughborough keeper to tip the ball past the post.

MATCH ACTION VS LOUGHBOROUGH DYNAMO The final chance of normal time came deep into stoppage time when Waldrum won possession close to the Loughborough area before sending in a low cross for Blair-Park but this time his shot cleared the crossbar and the match would be extended by 30 minutes. Following the final whistle Loughborough were reduced to nine men but after the first half of extra time passed without incident they had a chance inside the first minute of the second period but the shot was well saved by Hodge. The decisive moment of the match came in the 108th minute when Ashby retook the lead following a cross in from the left and at the back post the ball fell to substitute Cordy and his shot across goal found the net just inside the far post. Cordy did have another chance in the final five minutes of extra time to put the match beyond doubt but after beating a defender to the ball his shot cleared the bar but it didn’t matter and despite Loughborough finishing the game with nine men Ashby fully deserved to advance through to the second round after outplaying they opponents from two divisions higher for long spells of the match. They remained in that Leicestershire Challenge Cup 1st Round tie which ended in a 3-2 victory after extra time in a somewhat strange night division, apart from a single season (1971/1972) in Division Two, winning the top flight, now with gale force winds and the Dynamo down to 9 men but we played really well under those conditions and now look renamed the Premier Division, twice more – 1986/1987 and 1988/1989. forward to the next round. With no 1st team or reserve game last week it was down to Western Park on Saturday afternoon the the development team’s match againstDivision, Loughborough Reserves once again we were entertained They then for joined Midland Combination Premier staying FC there for fiveand seasons until they became a founding with a thrilling draw. In their first season in the EMCL they finished runners up to Thurnby Nirvana and in 2014/15 Stapenhill finished in 15th place. Stapenhill FC has undergone a total restructure for this coming season hoping for a better season on and off the pitch.

Since being founded in 1948 up until the end of the 2011/2012 season the clubs previous home was at Hood Park also in Ashby de la Zouch. The club currently consists of four adult teams and a youth team. The first team play in the East Midlands Counties League, with the Reserves in the Leicestershire Senior League Premier Division. In the 2008/2009 season the club formed a Youth Team (Under 18’s) side who play in the Leicestershire Midweek Floodlit Youth League on Wednesday nights. A Sunday team was re-introduced for the 2012/2013 season and they play in the Burton Sunday League Division Three. For 2015/2016 a third Saturday side has been formed who will play in the North Leicestershire Football League Division One. The club also has 11 junior sides ranging from Under 9’s through to Under 17’s who play in the Burton Junior Football League, Tamworth Junior Football League and the Derby City League. The junior section came after the club merged with the David Hunt Soccer School at the beginning of the 2009-2010 season. In February 2004, Ashby Ivanhoe became an FA Charter Standard football club. The club is very ambitious and has plans to progress further up the league pyramid system. The club is run by an experienced management team and enjoys the support of some very prestigious commercial partners. Ashby Ivanhoe had one of their most successful seasons in 2010/11 as they completed a league and cup double by winning the Leicestershire Senior League by nine points and also lifted the Coalville Charity Cup for the very first time after producing a superb second half comeback to beat Bardon Hill 3-2 in the final. They have also reached successive Leicestershire Senior Cup finals in 2011/2012 and 2012/2013 but had to settle for runners-up on both occasions losing 3-1, firstly to Ibstock United and then Aylestone Park. The 2013/2014 season saw the first team achieve a long-term ambition as they won promotion into the Step 6 East Midlands Counties League for the 2014/2015 season after finishing third place in the Leicestershire Senior League. It was a close title race with the top three all finishing level on points with Ashby third on goal difference. The Reserves were also promoted to the Leicestershire Senior League Division One. 2014/2015 saw Ashby compete at Step 6 of the non-league pyramid for the first time and they had a very good season and secured a top six finish in the East Midlands Counties League which featured victories against all of the sides above them. The Reserve side were involved in a tight title race and it went down to a last day decider against Lutterworth Athletic Reserves but despite the result going against them on the day they were still promoted for the second season in succession and will play at Step 7 in the Leicestershire Senior League Premier Division for 2015/2016.
